- A woman from Norristown, Pa. has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after her 6-year-old son brought a handgun to school, the Montgomery County District Attorney's office said.
Jasmin Devlin, 30, was also charged with reckless endangerment after authorities say she failed to secure the gun in her home.

Because that firearm was supposedly secure in which charges are usually not filed in those cases. This firearm was not only supposedly stolen after a straw purchase, but it wasn't secure in this case.

Raised five kids with the same morals, expectations, and opportunities and they've all made their own decisions on what to do with their lives. Some made good decisions. Some made bad decisions. It isn't always the parent or grandparents fault...some kids are just bad eggs with a permanent entitled worthless attitude.

@@DMJ160 I agree. I also believe that total gun confiscation would be taking away the most efficient defense weapon against home intruders. At the time, certain types of people don't need one: violent people. Plus, guns should be kept away from children both to avoid accidental deaths and school shootings.
Another one? What about the mom whose 6 year old son actually threatened his classmates and deliberately shot his teacher?? And no, it's not because hers was a legal gun. If you're gonna have a gun in your home, number 1 it better be legal, number 2 you better teach your kids that guns are an absolute NO NO until they are at an appropriate age to be taught proper gun safety and respect. Number 3 the gun should be locked up when not on the adult in the house holds person.
He was only 6… as a mental health professional… (not that I have any right to speak on this I only want to point out) this kid was just bragging about it. I don’t think there was intent to harm thankfully (just sidenote) I think this was just strictly show and tell haha 😂 but that doesn’t mean it’s right of course

I'm still waiting for them to charge the parents of the 6yr old in VA for their child shooting a teacher with a gun they claim was secured.
In first grade I stole my dads wedding band in the middle of the night cause I heard gold was worth money and I wanted to buy some butterfly clips. Little did I know my dad would check our backpacks every single morning before getting me to school. When he found his ring I got a whooping right at breakfast and still had to go to school. So how tf 6 yr olds across the county is making it to school with guns is baffling. Good to charge the parent she should have been more aware period

The parents of the child who shot the teacher in Virginia should have been charged as well. That gun wasn't secure it was sitting on a shelf in the closet, and they claimed it had a trigger guard on it, but that's not secure. It might have been legally purchased, but they allowed a 6 year old to get a hold of it, and then officials never charged them even after they said he purposely planned to shoot her. Both bad parenting.

I'm glad a tragedy was prevented. Parents should be held accountable at all times. This should be across the board for all states when it comes to punishment. This makes me think about the 6y old kid in VA/WV shooting of the school teacher. Whether the gun was legal or not, are those parents facing charges, or any type of disciplinary action? I haven't looked further into that one. It should be evenly across the board for every state.

I'm not saying 15-20y, but criminal negligence is written all over this case. If you can go to prison for forgetting to roll your window down while shopping, then, I see this as no different. Apparently, they weren't as secure as they thought they were if he still accessed the gun. They knew he was a troubled kid with violent tendencies, but it ain't my call though.

Devlin obtained the gun through a straw purchase made on March 4, 2022 by a Norristown man, the prosecutors’ statement said. Straw buying occurs when someone buys a gun for another person who is not legally authorized to buy one. So why no charge for the illegal purchase? And why was she not allowed? Past felonies?

this incident." So... Rudnitskas purchased four guns and sold them to people who were not allowed to have guns, including Devlin. It was probably Rudniskas that reported it stolen after he sold it to Devlin, as a way to explain why he no longer had the gun. Obviously he would not be able to say he sold it to Devlin.

Make an example of ALL parents who come to school with guns... No excuses whether Black,White Latino, Asian regardless of the nationality if you're NOT parenting your kids take these measures. I'm a parent there's no privacy in my home. You can't be scared of your kids and if so that's a problem.

Those students that brought attention commended for their quick thinking and honored by the Board of Education and the police department for preventing what could have been a serious tragedy and loss. My hat is off to them
Nothing wrong with storing your gun inside your drawer in any event if someone break into your house late night you have immediate access to it. But when you have small children around there has to be other options.

White six year old gets an unsecured gun, goes to school and point blank attempts to murder his teacher. He and his mother are both coddled like victims. A black child gets an unsecured gun goes to school and gets caught with the gun, and his mother is immediately arrested and charged and only God knows what they are going to do to this child. He will probably have a criminal record now. That's how they do black children. Black children get criminal records for being truant at school, and it follows them for the rest of their lives.
