    Well, a 6-year-old doesn't just roll up to the gun shop, plop down a debit card, and strolls out with a gun. So the parent/parents should be held responsible.

      The only way to be sure that our kids cannot commit such acts is to home-school them, and lock them in their rooms. Is that what we should advocate? Sometimes, even the best parents have a child that does something completely contrary to their upbringing. It's called "free will". (In this specific case, the parents absolutely have culpability in what happened, and should be charged)

    • @sharonpopolow6874
      @sharonpopolow6874 Год назад +10

      @@moniqueuu8777 This case is different. It's the age of the student who committed the act and the fact that the gun came from the home, the mother being the legal owner. One thing the news constantly brings up is: this case is unprecedented, meaning we've never encountered a 6 year old child ever coming to school with a gun and shooting some one. Who's responsible?
      Ok, no one on Earth will say, yeah lock up the boy! That's crazy. Ok, then where did the boy get the gun? Has there been prior ongoing behavior problems that everyone should have been on alert for or taken precautions with? Everything started at home. The mother was aware of violent tendencies and emotional disorders. Yet, somehow that gun was in a place where the boy got ahold of it to take to school. A teacher was shot. Others could have been shot. People could have died.
      And it's not just the mother- it's the school administration and staff who were negligent, too. So, even though the problem started with the parent, it ended with school negligence. They need to join mom in the cell and all be tried together for this case. All these people failed that boy and that teacher, and also that entire class and the other teacher who ran in to help.
      All of the other school shootings were done by older students (teens) or adults returning to their school with weird vendettas. That's why parents weren't brought into it... but maybe they should!

After like age 12 their parents didn't know where they were most of the day, you were expected to be out after breakfast or at school time and home by dinner and basically work everything out for yourself. I'm not saying it's better or worse, obviously no one can parent like that now, but the idea that hands off parenting is NEW or even exists as a general rule is just wrong. The 90s had constant moral panics over nothing, maybe that's what you recall as "good parenting". Now, parents have to panic about real stuff.

After that it is the responsibility of every adult that knew up to the shooting. A different story, earlier, said that the school administration had been told a couple of times that the child had a gun. Get charges on each of them. The police do not need to wait until someone is shot to investigate. The more adults charged the less likely another adult will allow the same thing to happen next time.
