  • In today's HVAC Tech Tip I show how to properly wire in water safeties on a Carrier/Bryant (Infinity/Evolution) communicating systems. Wiring through the 'R' circuit will only cause you future headaches when troubleshooting potential issues down the road. Wiring the way I show will allow the system to track these faults and make troubleshooting an intermittent issue a bit easier.

Thank you for this video, we have been running calls on Carrier and Lennox both with the float on R not the aux terminal.

Quick question, I see that there are terminals for a regular non communicating thermostat, what happens if you have both types connected at the same time (ABCD and ywgrc)? Does one override the other? Can you keep the communicating one for settings and a regular one for controlling temp?

    • @HVACinSC

No. The only way you can use the conventional terminal block and wiring on this system is to use a conventional thermostat which would completely defeat the purpose of having this sort of high efficient communicating system.

If you was to wire any accessory’s like humidifier to the abcd would that cause a short at the thermostat? One of the guys I am learning of did some like that and after the install nothing would turn on, but when I would jump R to G on the circuit board it would turn the fan on when I would take the jumper off and go to the thermostat to put the fan to come on it wouldn’t would that have been a communicating issue??

Nothing should be wired into the ABCD terminals aside from accessories with the same terminal designations.

HVAC in SC okay thank you for the reply

Nope. I want stat to blank out so that homeowner will without a doubt know there is a problem and call the shop. I know what has happened when it does that and that’s all that matters.

@Paul Wehr On a standard system I agree.
Not on these communicating systems. This system will notify the customer via a fault code directly on the screen along with emailing the customer and the service company but do what you'd like. 👍
