the triumphal march with the most iconic note ever performed in opera (the final Eb6) from Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, a legendary performance in the Palacio de del Bellas Artes of Mexico City featuring Maria Callas as Aida, Mario del Monaco as Radames, Oralia Dominguez as Amneris, and Giuseppe Taddei as Amonasro. The performance took place on the 3rd of July 1951, with Oliviero de Fabritiis conducting the Orchestra e Coro del Palacio de Bellas Artes.

95 years ago today, a legend was born. A phenomenon, enigma and the greatest primadonna. To some people, it might seem odd that so many people adore this woman, born 95 years ago and died 41 years ago - but the fact that her presence is always felt and her dominance and importance never fades just proves how her stature and effect on the public shall remain forever. Happy birthday, Cecilia Sophia Anna Maria Kalogeropoulos.

Mio Dio che cast e che acuto finale della Maria Callas!!! Un duo niente male con il grande Mario del Monaco!! Questa è la magnifica rappresentazione dell' Aida del 1951 a Città del Messico nel Teatro delle Belle Arti e credo di aver capito che oggi ricorre il Compleanno della Divina e che avrebbe l'età di 95 anni... chissà perché mi vengono in mente che tutti i grandissimi della Lirica, chi più chi meno oggi avrebbero circa questa età... forse quello era il periodo d' oro dei tanti talenti che ancora oggi adoriamo e rimpiangiamo la loro assenza.. qualche nome a caso.. Franco Corelli, Ettore Bastianini, Cesare Siepi, Giulietta Simionato e Renata Tebaldi ed ancor prima Del Monaco ecc.. ecc. Sai Nuri a forza di sforzarmi a leggere la lingua inglese, ogni tanto riesco a riconoscere qualche parola.. Ho detto leggere ( eresia pura) volevo dire a forza di vedere lo scritto inglese. Quella rappresentazione di Aida è (secondo me) la MIGLIORE! Maria offre un'Aïda emotiva e potente che non trattiene nulla, Madame Oralia Dominguez regala un'Amneris elettrizzante e appassionata con tutta la sua forza, e Mario del Monaco come sempre fa un super Radames ... Cara Elsa Farò del mio meglio per tradurre ciò che ho scritto sopra :

@@hadikheradmandpour7394 Verdi the EVEREST! What a poetic figure of speech, delivering a message that is totally true! And yes, having Maria, Oralia and Mario on the same stage is like a volcanic eruption of fiery and passionate singing (as well as volume).
Thanks dear Lidar. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Wagnerian and I never deny Beethoven's greatness but (let's face it) Verdi was the greatest composer of his century IMO.
Aida is very, very, very dear to me. I began to learn Italian by this bilingual pocket sized book: www.reclam.de/detail/978-3-15-009338-2/Verdi__Giuseppe/Aida and I used to read it as I was listening to the same 1951 Aida.
I'm an ardent fan of MDM and Oralia, but not of that greek goddess... fan? NO! I WORSHIP her.
I agree - but comparing Beethoven and Verdi is like comparing whiskey to champagne. In any case, I totally relate to the feelings you have towards Maria.. Maria is such an artist and such a human being, that adore her or despise her you cannot deny she was divine.. My true love for her and the way I connect to her both as an artist and as a human being is inexplicable, something that the dictionary has yet to articulate.. The way this woman moves people from all kinds, religions, ages, races and cultures is something that no person has yet to achieve (have u seen the video of the tribesmen reacting to her for the first time?)...
