    Does a negative stem make a big difference with climbing or descending?

    • @newttella1043
      @newttella1043 6 лет назад +1

      Steezy Masters I would say yes. But I think it's for bike fit. Her handle bars are same height as her saddle. With her short legs it's hard to get the handlebars low without flipping stem. If handlebars are too high, it's harder to climb.

    • @ns671fr
      @ns671fr 3 года назад

      Better for climbs so you can be over the bike, and for XC the bars angle provides that speed needed positioning

    • @newttella1043
      @newttella1043 6 лет назад +1

      Matt Larsen Probably not needed for a smaller wheel size and Emily's light body weight. For XC racers every grams matters when looking to get a full suspension bike weight down. I'm actually surprised her bike isn't lighter being that small and no dropper post.

    Shin I used to ride trials, we used to run a road cassette and then a grip shift that we’d cut down to about 20mm wide and then run it the (wrong) side of a mushroom grip to keep it out the way and make sure you never accidentally twisted it pulling up on a gap or something. Boring little story for you all 😂

  • @ronaldtartaglia4459

    I really like to know why cross-country Riders aren't all using dropper posts now? It must be so horrible not being able to adjust the saddle. Is it just a weight issue? Because in the past they were all riding hardtails and now they're starting to switch to full suspension so why not the dropper post? What's your take on it?

    • @ianiscaratti4924

    I see a couple things with Emily's set that might make it less then optimum:
    1.) The seat post saddle combination, by running the saddle that far back it prevents the saddle from providing any suspension. Ideally you want the saddle in the middle of the rails so they rails can act like leaf springs so they can deflect and provide some cushion for the rider. (Solution: Trek should make Emily a custom seat post).
    2) The second problem I see is also related to Emily's forward position in that her center of gravity is further forward then what the designers of the frame probably designed for at least in theroy. I say theroy because women have a lower center of gravity then men so her having her weight forward on the bike might actually help things. It would be intersting to see her front wheel/back wheel weight distribution in comparison to other riders on the team because this will effect handling, suspension settings, and tire selection.

    • @fraserdavidson6900
      @fraserdavidson6900 6 лет назад

      If anything, the saddle in that position will have more suspension since its in more of a cantilever set up, and most of the flex in a saddle comes from the shell flexing. As for COG, its not stationary on a bike, and is affected by so many things, that I doubt a few CM would make a huge difference, and can easily be tuned out.

    I can't believe it is a "custom build", it looks more like she couldn't find any frame suitable to her and had to adapt to a wrong sized one by using negative
    drop stem and putting the saddle way too forward.
