  • For the third in our series of events for Women's History Month, Marc Cave (director of the National Holocaust Centre and Museum), interviews Holocaust survivor Kitty Hart-Moxon OBE, with contributions from her son Peter and daughter-in-law Moira.
Kitty was barely a teenager when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Her Holocaust experience includes the Lublin ghetto, forced labour, imprisonment, three camps, a death march and the murder of sixteen immediate relatives. Her first book about her lived experience was published in 1961, one of the earliest published testimonials to the Holocaust.
Since then, Kitty has made two television documentaries reliving her experiences, written a second book, and spoken widely about her experiences. Now aged 94, she is still a fierce and indomitable force for truth.

I stumbled upon her documentary last night on youtube and am absolutely in awe of this remarkable lady's story, and all she and her dear mother survived. I am thrilled to see she's still alive and well! Kitty, if you see this, God bless you and keep you...I wept with you when you broke down while showing your son around Auschwitz. May you be reunited with your mother, father, and brother in Heaven.

I went to Auschwitz 5 days ago. I learned that I knew nothing of how truly horrible it was. I did not know how large it was, the industrialized murder/torture machine it was built to be was truly mind boggling. The gas chambers, ovens, cells, ponds full of the ashes of tens of thousands of people. Everyone should see it, so we don’t forget.

It sounds silly to say but Kitty is my ‘favourite’ holocaust survivor. There’s something about her which I’ve loved from the start. She’s so steadfast, determined and incredible despite her hardship her strength lives on to this day. I hope one day I have the privilege to meet her she’s an icon in her own right and an extremely clear symbol of leadership and enthusiasm to show the world of the horrors that she and millions went through.

I first saw her in a documentary in 1979 on RUclips. It was her revisiting it 40 years later for the first time.
It is haunting, sad, eye opening and courageous.
I learnt more as an Australian woman born in 1979, who learnt about it without really seeing and learning first hand what happened there. Especially by someone who was there and did.
I want tonthank Kitty for being brave enough to continually educating us about what happened to her and the others there
We need to keep hearing about this atrocity so we can stand up to it!
I would love to meet u Kitty.
Thank you for your courage and sharing your story.
Wish I could meet u in person
U are an inspiration and I want to share your story so we can as humans can try to stop this happening again to others.
    We need to spread humanity
    Stop hate and oppression.
    We are one human race!

I watch one documentary where she returned to Auschwitz with her son and to me it wasn’t sad at all. She cried as she returned there from emotion and after her moment. She started almost sprinting around and orating a mile a minute. She knew she had to tell her story but also the stories of those that did not have such a platform to do so. Again the documentary was not sad in tone because she maybe without knowing was teaching how to really live and overcome so many odds.

I stopped watching after your ignorant comments comparing Kitty's experience with the experience of adult descendants of slaves in the US. You have no right to compare the two. They are two separate experiences, and deserve to be treated as such. Both are true, but slavery in the US never got the apologies and reparations that the Holocaust did all over the world.
Read the book " The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander and you might better understand why BLM became. I know it opened my eyes. Slavery never stopped, just changed faces over and over. Disagree? Prove me wrong.

    • @withfootnotes
      @withfootnotes 2 месяца назад +1

I'm also disappointed in Kitty nodding her head in agreement with your awful comments. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she isn't familiar with BLM and all of our history with slavery and brutality in the US. I hope...

@@cabc74 I in no way minimize what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany. The cruelty is beyond words. But by the same token, some of those who talk so loudly about that want to dismiss the generational pain and suffering of others that for some reason they feel should just shut up and move on.
It doesn't make sense to me. If the past should be left in the past and not discussed, then it should be true for everyone across the board.
Sorry to go on a rant, I just get very upset by the inconsistencies.
