I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. I’m sure that more people than just myself asked this question but I was one of them so thanks again, Wes
Great video and thx for the info! It’s time for me to change out my fly line. What line are you using in your demonstration? Many variables but looking for a nice 5 wt f line that won’t break the bank! Again, thanks!
Good topic for another video! Honestly, you have to figure out where and for what you will be using the line. Rio makes good reasonably priced lines. I buy a lot of lines for my school rods on ebay and TEMU and they are OK. Take a look at this video ruclips.net/video/_73U8-r_wmI/видео.html
Thanks for the great explanation!!! Can I also ask how to measure a hook size? I got some streamers from a friend but don't know the hook size! Thanks for help!
If you look at this video it is more than hook size. I would say there is a lot of trial and error here. Streamers don't need much Taper in the leader so try a pretty heavy leader and see how it works. ruclips.net/video/JbFu8P5BJEA/видео.html
When casting where the leader line and the main line are joined should that connection point bypass the first guide to give a accurate cast? and which line has the weight the leader or main?
The fly line he has is called a weight forward line. Many times leaders are about the length of the rod, the fly line is the engine, and needs to be heavy enough to carry the leader and fly being used. There are different weight rods, and fly lines available that enable you to land small to very large fish.
Most of my lines are about 100'/120' + 100' of Lazer running line for all my single-hand rods from 8wt. to 12wt,..on a good day,... I'm yards into the backing....back cast hard and let out more line with a drift before you let it rip... 60-foot casts are quite simple to achieve even without double hauling it's about practice, practice, practice, and timing......just sayin 🤗
@flyguy2021 There's no need to cast 200' but it sure feels good to let it rip.... BTW.... a 200' cast in rough surf and wind is impossible ..but I can get 200 yards with my surf rods...there's no need to cast 200 yards in the surf either, but it sure is fun...I compete in long-distance casting with my friends....been at it for years......I believe the world record is about 933'
@badwizard1312 this was 1985 with a kmart 70$ 8.5 ft 8 weight rod and a number 7 dragonfly double taper sinking line......not exactly high test gear lol
@@BradtheButcher1234 Great story. I had an old spinning rod with sliding rings. Attached an old clicker I found at the bottom of a tool box. A floating line my Dad got at a rummage sale that sunk like lead. Neighbors thought I was that nutty kid fishing in the yard. Current neighbors still think that when I’m out practicing. Do you remember the early rods with metal ferrules and the old alphabetic line designations. CDH and such? Still have an old Shakespeare in the cellar with that.

Good stuff. I’m going out to the yard to practice.

casting should begin with atleast 20ft of line outside the rod . So counting a 9 foot leader, about 30 ft of line.

Do you find a lot of need for 200’ casts while fishing?

20 yards isn't very far its just a normal distance, especially if you're using a shooting head line like you are.
Its a bass taper on wt forward floating line . $12 on temu
At 15 i could shoot out my entire flyline to the backing......a lot of practice
So could I but it is a hellava lot easier with today’s rods and lines.
