I used to work as security on Hollywood Boulevard, I used to know this guy, We had a situation at a theater I worked at with our client, the client had their bag stolen from them and we were in hot pursuit to catch the thief, low and behold, this guy spotted the thief and we caught him. His quote to which he told our team (to which we all laughed it off.) was "at least Superman was here to save the day!" I will never forget that... Rest in peace Hollywood Superman you where a hero to us, and my team.

The Hollywood Superman makes me sad. During my hollywood party days we'd see and chill with the character actors all the time, just along the blvd. Chris was such a staple for so long, and his end was so incredibly tragic.
The Walk of Fame went from a cosplayer stage to a homeless haven, & he was there for all of it.
I've seen it popup a few times, but this is the first time I heard about the substance dependency. :(

Okay, NOW this got really crazy!
Man, I don't know why, but the story of Hollywood Superman hit me as particularly tragic. Feels like the story of a man who tried as hard as he could to do the right thing, but completely lost control of his life, and it caught up to him just as he was starting to regain that control. I also feel terrible for his girlfriend, I can't imagine what it's like to not only find the person you love dead, but in the circumstances she did.
It didn't help his wife left him to die.
Wonder if she even cared after.

Glad I wasn't the only one. I remembered hearing this story years back and actually said "Oh no!" when Slopes mentioned "Danish" and "Submarine"

The Danish submarine guy murdering a reporter is an infamous incident and i feel sorry for Denmark that people of the rest of the world have to see them like this.

Wow, the Hollywood Supes was definitely a really depressing one, it started out with those nods to Superman on the Mega Drive and even Superman 64, but by the end, as the story progressed, it definitely took a much darker turn than I expected, and sadly, this happens alot in LA but Chris definitely had the Man of Steel gig going for him, and they say that no one can relate to the Big Blue Boy Scout. It may be years since it happened, but may God rest his soul.
It started sad with superman 64 and ended sad with chris' sad demise

The Hollywood Superman story is heartbreaking. I can only feel bad about it. A man that just wanted to make so many people happy and use his love for Superman to do it.
Man I always feel awful for Kim. Peter killing her must show that Peter is an awful monster. There's no logical explanation of her death other than him killing her in cold blood. She just wanted to write an article on the sub and take a ride on a submarine :(

You'd think a well off Superman fan would've helped get Chris's life back on track or even getting hired for corporate events as an impersonator.
Why? He wasn't that good at it, and he was scrawny af. Nobody owed him anything. The money he did get went to his meth addiction, and he refused to get a real job. That's why he became homeless, not because of his lies that his landlords were out to get him.
Do you really expect a corporate event to go over well when an emaciated meth head Supes with a dirty costume shows up? Don't be ridiculous.

I honestly thought the Cat Lady one would end in the cats eating her.
You know, the Hollywood Superman story is very tragic. I could forgive him even if the campaigns are technically scam for drugs or the mugging incident was made up.
First, the goal isn't that big of a deal and for such a small value, physical rewards aren't to be expected. Second, judging from his routine, I could see his desperation and depression.
Finally, even though both cases are true, he still fulfilled partly of his wishes of making tens of thousands of souls happy and entertainment. I pray for him and his girlfriend's peace.
Okay, I WAS getting PURR Cat Café vibes from the first entry at first (there's an IndieGoGo for PURR Cat Café after all), but then the missing husband came into the picture and it all went downhill from there.
At the very least, that story only ended with a failed suicide attempt. The story here is so much worse, but the fact that both she and the dead husband were KKK members lessens the impact just a bit.

Man, that sucks. When I went to school in Hollywood I actually smoked weed with that guy and we talked superman for like an hour. He is a chill dude.
I smoked with him also when I was on vacation in Hollywood.. He seemed like a good guy but you could definitely tell he had a few screws loose or something..
I just commented above how we all used to party with the character actors. trade cigarettes, swap stories. living in hollywood was weird and wonderful, and i wish i could give chris a big hug right now.
So you helped fuel his already ongoing drug addiction by encouraging someone who was actively in a relapse with a gateway drug. I hope you're proud of yourself.

A few months ago Peter Madsen actually escaped prison by taking a person hostage, by convincing them that he had da bomb... wouldd have been a fun endding to your episode ;)

As a fan of the Superman character myself, that story is just heart-wrenching.
the Superman one was hard to watch. I'm happy he brought joy to people's lives and they helped pay for his funeral in return. that's a really sweet ending to a tragic story.

That cat one makes me so angry. Lots of animal hoarders try to claim they're "rescuers", and I despise that she wasn't arrested for animal cruelty. Oh well, both she and her husband are removed from society, and nothing of value was lost, except the poor cats that died.

Hollywood Superman is such a sad story. My heart breaks for everyone who loved him; especially his poor girlfriend.
The ballast tank is also used to balance watercraft that are made of steel and thus very heavy. They work a tad bit like those oil and water things that continually tip back and forth that are a desk toy that was popular in the 80s, except this is with water and air. I worked on an aircraft carrier which had a system of 4 interconnected tanks at corners of the ship. They also help to stabilize hard and fast turning. In a submarine, it also keeps the vessel upright by using gravity.
Anyway, that's the layman's explanation. I don't know much more than that, I was a radar tech!
I was thoroughly expecting the cat lady to have fed the corpse of her husband to the cats.
The story of the hollywood Superman guy, Chris, was awfully tragic. I feel so bad for him. I went through addiction issues and falling to hit rock bottom so fast and so hard. Addiction is a killer.
I hope he's resting in peace if there is an afterlife, most addicts don't choose addictikn over a good life. When life hits you hard, drugs help, then it's a slippery slope and it's all down hill from there. It's a massive struggle getting over active addiction. It sounds like he was addicted to the superman gigs as well. RIP Chris

Hey Slopes, just wanted to say that I think that Superman did have a dream he was working towards, it's very unfortunate that the money got abused, but life and death hold some unbelievable cards and I for one , am not going to judge when I wasn't on hand, and in person. God bless his heart and soul

I have a critique here. I like the idea of collecting older stuff into videos like this but your opening bit is really vague about it. It makes it come off like you're trying to sell this as wholly new content which I doubt you were intending. I think you should make it a bit clearer what these videos are at the start.
Otherwise keep up the good work man. Looking forward to those upcoming videos.

When Malissa is the 1st story on the list I knew this was gonna get crazy... I already knew about her story too.

@@skinlesswalnut6259 To be fair those donation bins hardly help the needy. A majority of them are for-profit and wind up selling clothing in bulk for humanitarian efforts overseas, which sounds good but very little of that actually occurs.
did you ever read the smokes and mirrors book ? was a kickstarter book about the whole coleco chameleon/retro vgs/mike kennedy debacle. I was always fascinated by it and will probably get it at some point
The thing that I feel was passed over or missed in this video is that "The Hollywood Superman" was severely mentally ill. He had harassed the mother of Christopher Reeve to try and get her to admit he (Christopher Dennis) was actually her illegitimate child. He had also gotten in trouble tons of times for yelling at, harassing, and generally acting like a person on meth towards tourists. So, as sad as his story is, he wasn't just some tortured artist battling demons. He was a sick man, who through drugs and hard living ended up seriously deluded and even violent (especially if you dared tell him that he may not actually be related to Christopher Reeves). Still a tragic story, and tragic that he wasn't committed, and helped to get well.
That still makes him, by definition, a tortured artist battling demons though.

Drug abuse (prescribed or otherwise) and glaring mental health issues that could have been diagnosed and treated effectively decades before tragedy.
The individuals are certainly culpable but nobody is born evil.
It keeps happening and we keep watching it happen.
