What is most annoying about waterproof winter gloves is that they are often impossible to get back on after a stop due to the interior being damp with sweat.
I use nitirl gloves(like car mechanics use) or those plastic gloves provided in gas stations or supermarkets to pick up products. My hands slide in and out easily
Try with a thin liner glove, it won't make you sweat like latex gloves, it should help regolate temperature and sliding your hand inside will be much easier@@paulaus

riding all winter in the PNW, i've learned that no gloves are both supremely waterproof and also warm enough to keep you warm in a long downpour. Not to mention also comfortable. My ultimate solution is whatever high quality summer race glove i have and hippo hands. Honestly, i've not been cold or wet in two winters on my hands, bone dry and warm with that combo, add heated grips and cold rain is zero issue anymore!
I use a pair of old surplus winter military gloves. Honestly some of the best damn gloves I've ever had, ever. Rode through a driving rain in 38 degrees Fahrenheit, dry and mostly warm. They performed FAR better than my "Iron Jihas" and they were only $30, not 100+. The "Iron Jihas" don't breath wear as the Mil Sur gloves do, they produce a dry warm glow sort of heat; like a good cuddle under the comforter on a winters night. Only downfall is that they are bulky in the palm so they slide in the grip which and result in some palm fatigue. But on a budget, and they actually work? I'm buying another pair. Plus, they have room for a liner glove, so the knitter wool gloves my wife knitted for me fit Inside.
I live in Massachusetts and ride all winter. I ride an 22 RE Himalayan. Only Bark Buster to block the wind. With a little leather treatment to fight the road salt they stood up well to the road salt. The only damage after one winter [which I'm not even certain was the winters fault] was one seam at the cuff has come undone, but it's held together.
I really love the tested series. They're so much work, and extremely prone to errors in lingo(such as, one can't supply ".5 psi per second" that's a pressure differential, and has no time component. The latter would only be applicable regarding volume, such as pumping 10 cc of water per second or such. But, I digress, keep kicking butt!
Great update, I was one of the Gore-Tex comments although I was a bit more civil than most I guess. My point is still that when I wear my AStars gloves with their DryStar liner my hands are ALLWAYS damp from perspiration even if the ride stays dry. When I wear my Klims with Gore-Tex my hands stay dry when it's dry out and only get wet in an extended wet ride. My real life experience is that Gore-Tex breathes, some other waterproof liners don't. Gore Tex is worth the bucks. Keep up the good work New Guy!
Mr. New Guy looks like an accomplished engineer, who conducted ample research work concerning former F9 videography already. He might well be a Mr. Old Guy. An old chap, if you know what I mean.
Anything I've ever worn with Gore-Tex, eventually smells like cat piss. (Note - I have no cats) I thought it was just me, but no, it's a thing. I smell the stench of Gore-Tex wafting up from my Sidi Adventures every time I ride on a hot day.
I have Gore-tex boots. They were fantastic for a year until they leaked. The warranty in Malaysia doesn't mean much because they told me to ship my boots to China for an inspection. The cost of shipping was like 1/3 the price of my boots. If they rejected my warranty claim, I'd have to bear the cost of shipping my boots back to me. I might as well buy new boots. In the end I decided to stitch the soles because the glue kept peeling off, and I bought waterproof socks. They were great too although walking with water trapped in my boots felt squishy. The waterproof socks didn't last long though. They're already leaking. Sigh.
But there's always a hint of fun in there too. A sly look to camera, a sight gag, a witty quip even, ... whatever it may be but it made you smile, regardless of the science!
Teeechnically if they were doing a true scientific method, they would need a control. For example, using a summer glove to benchmark the slippage with a single layer, and testing the efficacy of their waterproofing method by using a true waterproof glove (like a rubber cleaning glove). Even so, it's really well done, and I love these reviews.
Great video. The best waterproof glove I've ever had is the Gears leather gauntlet heated gloves, with the hard plastic knuckles. They don't make that version anymore, but they are worth there weight in stolen gold.
Never found any that stayed waterproof for long. When I was a despatch rider I would combine lightweight summer gloves, handlebar muffs and heated grips. Worked well in the English winter. My hands would be wet, but they were warm.

The Milwaukee gloves work just fine, even better if you get a pair that fits. I use them for work (plumber) and riding. The best part is that they cost around $25 dollars so when they wear out or get lost it is not a big deal.

I'm running the Klim Adventure GTX right now. Keeps me dry, fairly durable. Love the updated test, as I also would have complained about the air test due to molecule size.
I would have liked to have seen what the results would have been with nitrile or latex gloves in between regular gloves and a liner. The grip test would likely suck, and it would require upsizing the glove, but the water resistance and warmth would likely make up for it.
@@mbryson2899yeah I'm with you on that. All forms of "plastic" gloves make me sweat like mad and I get really bothered by the texture of the material no matter what it is. I just bare skin in my riding gloves.
Agree, if it's cold and wet, I'm running some nitrile gloves beneath the Alpinestars drystar gauntlets I've had for the past 5 years or so. World of difference
@@n03m9 Same here. Latex for most, polyurethane for the sensitive. Never had a problem with overheating; in fact, it enhanced. On my hands, not so much!
As someone who wears gloves everyday for work all day long, the most important factor that produces good grip is proper sizing. It’s not the material moving against different layers, it’s your hand moving on the inside of the glove. I’ve used all types of gloves from hardware stores from totally rubber waterproof gloves to second skin mechanics gloves. They all work just fine.
Great stuff - I gave up on eexpensive Gore-Tex lined gloves due to the lack of durability... I have never had a pair, out of many pairs owned, that really kept hands dry when it's raining hard. So, now I have a pair of rubber, sewer workers gloves that I keep under the seat... I can pull them on over my real riding gloves to stay dry. In winter, I wear bulkier ski gloves as they are a lot less expensive than M/C specific gloves. Klim's snowmobile gloves are great, as well.
I think the solution is two pairs. I had some armoured, tight fitting gloves that were great, but filled with sweat in the summer and left my hands freezing in winter. I ended up buying some bulky gloves with no armour just to get me through the winter, and they ended up being used for maybe 75% of the year. They were bike gloves, so they were friction resistent, but I never noticed much difference on the handles. They didn't feel cool though
I have two pairs of Five waterproof gloves - winter and summer. Summer ones are the cheapest in the lineup. I spent two hours riding in heavy rain - that included about hour in stationary slow moving city traffic. Not a leak. Thanks to the heated grips, my hands were warm. Winter ones never leaked went thru a couple of short rain spells and kept me warm and dry.
I had a feeling it wouldn't be the stitching because Gore garments are usually seam sealed for other types because they're aware of stitching compromising waterproofing. It's good you guys corrected it.
Love these tests. One thing I think should have been explored are (lifehack) options for warm road gloves that offer top protection without blowing a hole in your wallet. For instance, plastic or latex gloves as inserts like the ones offered at gas stations (as mentioned in a previous F9 video). I've ridden though cold torrential downpours with non-waterproof motorcycle gloves and dishwasher gloves underneath - hands came out dry as a bone and toasty warm after riding at highway speeds for hours.
I don't...because mine fit. If you get a proper fitting pair, you won't need to pack them down. That being said, many companies make it impossible to get a pair that actually fits.
@@dr.bherrin a proper fitting pair should be snug and thus everyone needs to pack them down. Probably why there's so many thumbs up on my comment lol. You probably own loose fitting gloves so you don't pack yours down. Either that or you are using cheapy gloves that aren't made of a quality leather. Either way, u need to pack down your gloves
Thanks. I’m 80 years old and pretty much just started riding again. My first M/C was a ‘61 Honda Super Hawk. I currently have a Sondors Metacycle waiting to be taken out of my “Mud Room”(I live in Idaho). I’ve had a SurRon for about 4 years and recently upgraded to the BAC 4,000/CHI 72 Volt Battery. I like the (125#)weight. The Metacycle was advertised at 200# Now they are saying 335#+ . They also sent the WRONG COLOR! I was sent an email asking if I would like to be an early purchaser of Sondors first motorcycle, The Metacycle. I’ve been a satisfied owner of 3 Sondors ebikes and the offering price ($5,000), and weight (200#)sounded good. Customer service (Ha) has never returned my emails, texts, or voicemails. I ordered the Naked Silver. I think the hollow aluminum casting looks interesting but not so much in Black. I guess I should have refused delivery, but after giving them a $5,000 no-interest loan for over two years, I thought I better take the BLACK one and straighten it out W/Customer Service. The bike was supposed to be delivered October of’21. Mine was delivered @ the end of December 2022. Blah, Blah, Blah. This is the only problem I can think of! My life is sooo great!j
When he's looking at the negative comments re: Gore-Tex i nearly blew a gasket laughing so hard. Name-checking *Hubert Cumberdale* (and Marjory Stewart Baxter?!?!) OMG that is some old-school throwback humor right there. Not only did they handle the blow-back with grace & dignity and make the correction, they did it with absolute maximum hilarity... Hans Gruber, Hubert, Esmeralda Villa Lobos, that is some A+ production. Love you, Fortnine. Love you.
It was ripped apart on the r/motorcycle subreddit bc they were using wrong flow rates of air and the very extreme test in the water tank. As that is quite unusall to happen while riding and the gloves are not designed to withstand such extreme Test
You guys crack me up! Thanks for all of the content you provide. One solution to the summer glove getting wet my husband I do is to put on a pair of Gortex mitten shells when it’s raining. I know it’s not the ideal, but it does keep our hands and wrists warm and dry during wet weather while still providing dexterity on the handlebars.
I use cut/chemical proof gauntlet gloves for factory work when I’ll be riding for a while or in heavy rain. I wear them over seamless glove liners that have little silicone dots on the grip, super warm and super dexterous. I’d bet my hands they would hold up pretty well to the abrasion of wet concrete considering their cut proof nature and several layers
Has FortNine fallen out with Ryan?! Really not sure I'd stay watching if he's gone, the entertainment was at least half the appeal. I'm in England, so I'm not buying from them. I can get gear reviews anywhere, I'm only here for the excellent presentation.
With regard to "waterproof", all gloves leak eventually in heavy rain. It’s the consequence of "breathability". The solution is to keep a pair of plastic 100% waterproof over mitts in your pocket or side case, for when you get caught in a downpour. My SPADA pair work very well and they cost a fraction of a pair of gloves. If your hands are getting soaked a lot by rain, maybe you need a bike with hand guards, or a fairing… or you could relocate to another state or country 😊

I clicked on this with low expectations as I seen it wasn’t Ryan, but job well done… another great video FN 👏
I honestly didn’t think Ryan could find someone else that is as savagely hilarious as himself to host.
New presenter is doing a good job! Which is really saying something because the expectations were huge! Keep up the good work!
Great job! Miss Ryan a bit... But not too much. You've got a good voice and you're fun. Thank you!
Did Ryan leave the channel?
I think the solution is two pairs. I had some armoured, tight fitting gloves that were great, but filled with sweat in the summer and left my hands freezing in winter. I ended up buying some bulky gloves with no armour just to get me through the winter, and they ended up being used for maybe 75% of the year. They were bike gloves, so they were friction resistent, but I never noticed much difference on the handles. They didn't feel cool though
FNG is funny and informative. I’m hoping for more appearances from him in the future!
Watch out Ryan F9…the new kid is good!
Love theses guys. New guy is great. Please keep doing what you’ve been doing!
We need Ryan plz. Thanks
Nothing from Five? I bought my gloves from them after Ryan's recommendation and I am so happy with them
4:38 . They redid the waterproof tests
You took criticism, adapted and went again, amazing job!
Video is taken down and the segment that was wrong was redone! Somebody can admit a mistake! You don't see this happen every day. Well done F9!
I miss the smug and witty Ryan bestowing his knowledge and perverted humor on us 😔
What happend to Ryan? I liked the new guy, but there is only one Ryan..
I had a feeling it wouldn't be the stitching because Gore garments are usually seam sealed for other types because they're aware of stitching compromising waterproofing. It's good you guys corrected it.
They've replaced the submerged waterproofing test, the original one was flawed and the video was removed while they fixed it.
Great video! I live in Finland and have been very happy with Rukka gloves. Not cheap but very waterproof and warm which you need at this latitude.
You guys do know, that most of us watch FortNine just so that we can watch Ryan, right?
I agree, Ryan's style makes the channel. No explanation so far why Ryan is missing? 😐
Yes! Back to the roots!
Has Ryan left to do cheese reviews?
Fortnine is my favourite channel. Keep up the great work. From the UK
Were is Ryan?
New guys doing great. Thanks y'all.
where's Ryan?
We want him back.
Thanks for diving back in! It’s kinda nice to understand what’s inside the build.
I like this dude. He Has a really good presence. And equally good subtle comedic timing.
Who out there doesn't pack down their gloves when they put them one??? What are you doing Revit
Oversized nitrile gloves over a comfy riding glove for rain....works every time!
Who the hell is this guy? We want Ryan.
My life is sooo great!j
i still miss the old guy
I'm impressed with the correction. This is still the best channel on RUclips
If the new guy means they are phasing out Ryan, then I'm going to be super sad... :(
When he's looking at the negative comments re: Gore-Tex i nearly blew a gasket laughing so hard. Love you.
Why the reupload?
They've replaced the submerge waterproofing test, the original one was flawed and the video was removed while they fixed it.
It was ripped apart on the r/motorcycle subreddit bc they were using wrong flow rates of air and the very extreme test in the water tank. As that is quite unusall to happen while riding and the gloves are not designed to withstand such extreme Test
Did you see the amount of hate the waterproff test got?
Watch the video, they tell you.
My held score goretex gloves have never failed me this winter, so I'll shout-out to them for making a quality product!
Yeah annother fortnine vid wooohoo! Wheres Ryan tho????
I've done that in England in Winter! Very good weather protection! Nothing is getting through them in a hurry!!!
I'm the only one that enjoys the content when ryan appears? I want to see him in the videos, not another person😅
I was confused initially why the video was a reupload. Then the correction was pointed out midway through the video in the comments. Good stuff.
Let's hope this version is better
They've replaced the submerge waterproofing test, the original one was flawed and the video was removed while they fixed it.
This was amazing, I love this guy, well done
Where's the old guy??
Great video, very informative but I personally enjoy listening Ryan’s more charismatic tone.
Why the re-upload?
The waterproof test was bad. They changed it to a better now. See @4:35
Double the video. Double the fun. Love the revisit.
good motorcycle gear video but miss ryans humour and examples.
