They should watch The Next Karate Kid because it is the last film with the Miyagi character. It's canon period.. even if it's not the same quality as the original trilogy

Johnny's character was portrayed by William Zabka, who was quite famous for many roles in the 1980s, where he often played a spoiled, rich, bad guy in several of movies and was type cast as that persona. He later won an Academy Award nomination for a short film he produced and in 2010 was in the movie "Hot Tub Time Machine". Other than that, his career kind of was low key until Cobra Kai blew up.
You guys are not ready. This show is so much better than it has any right to be!

The 2 best from the film/show were Terry silver and the cobra kai friend of Johnny's who in the show is now a minister,(the one in the movie who tells jonny to leave him alone as he's had enough before miyagi intervenes) they're both bona-fide blackbelts in real life.

Well he was trained for the movies by Pat Johnson, who was Chuck Norris's student, but Ralph didn't continue his training after the movies, unlike William Zabka who clearly did
Everyone on this show has good and bad. You get layers and shades of gray for each character. This show will show you why they are the way they are. No one is one-dimensional, but rather very fleshed out and complex.
17:22 Daniel isn't a bully though.... he fixed Johnny's car for free, for no reason. Johnny, who used to bully him in high school. By all accounts he's extremely kind to Johnny.
It's wild to see reactors automatically assume Daniel's a dick now just because he's not the underdog anymore, Johnny is. Daniel's still a good person, he's just become accustomed to luxury. He had a hard childhood. He earned it.

I never understood how people were like "oh tell him, tell him" as if she was driving the car lol she was in the backseat and had literally no control of the car. Also Danny wasn't being a bully at all, he was trying to be adult but with a history like theirs you can't expect all the animosity to have gone away

This show is the pinnacle for what a reboot show should be. Such a wonderfully well executed addition to the universe.
And so begins an incredible journey of one of the greatest spin-offs and remakes of all time. You all are in for a crazy ride with this show. This series blew my expectations out of the ocean. I was not expecting it to be that good. In fact, this show was far better than what it was expected to be. Started this show in 2021 after watching the Karate kid trilogy and I’m still shocked at how top tier it was. Y’all are in for a legendary story.
The close up of the face kick was filmed for the original movie. They just didn't use it because it made you feel bad for Johnny. Which wasnt the goal of the movie. But it works here obviously.
I will repeat this until the day I die: the kick was not an illegal move! When the rules are explained by Ali, it is made very clear that a kick in the face is allowed (Johnny even does it).

Great character developments and arcs. Very original and surprising and fresh.
This is a multi-faceted show. It has elements of 1980s nostalgia, music, professional wrestling, Marvel movies and Rocky movies, Shakespeare, soap opera, action, comedy and drama.

The movie Johnny was watching was Iron Eagle with Louis Gossett Jr. as Chappy.
The editing and framing is so nostalgic. This series dives deep into trauma and the way it affects teenagers into their adulthood
They made a good decision to follow Johnny's story because if they followed Daniel again it would not be refreshing.
I wonder if they got inspired by that episode on How I met your mother, where Barney kept insisting Johnny was the hero.

True, but to say Daniel doesn't have his fair share of problems is to also be blind to one of the better parts of the show: we are capable of mistakes and paving a path to hell with good intentions
Daniel has always been a smartass, we just didn't really care cuz we were watching everything from his perspective
I remember when you guys started watching Agents of SHIELD and you caught up just in time to watch the seventh and final season with the rest of the world. Shortly after that, the first two seasons of this show dropped on Netflix. And now you’re finally in for another wild ride.
While the story does take place in the San Fernando Valley, most of the show was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
However, they did film some parts in the real San Fernando Valley. For example, the Encino Commons shopping center is located on Ventura Blvd.

I've admittedly strayed from your channel for no real reason. You guys are great! I'm a child of the 80's and took multiple years of both karate and taekwando because of seeing this movie on video after I was about 8 or 9. Daniel's daughter wasn't drriving. The first season starts in the fall of 2017. She was in the back seat. Subscribing now!

This is a show u have to bungee watch. It just keeps getter better and better each episode and it is so well written
Fun Fact: The main motivation for this series being made was the kind of funny idea that if you look at Karate Kid from Johnny's perspective, Daniel is absolutely the bad guy. Johnny definitely is a jerk and a total duchebag, but in his first interaction with Daniel on the beach Daniel was the one to make it violent by throwing the first punch. Johnny simply defended himself. In fact, every altercation the two get into (other than the pushing down the hill scene) Daniel is the one to instigate the fight. Not defending Johnny or nothing, but it is funny that the idea that Daniel was the bad guy being what started this show is hilarious
The Cobra Kai producers were able to get some original camera footage that wasn't used in the KK movie so that the fight scene from the movie would look a little different than it did back in the day.
10:26 Fun fact: The guy that plays Johnny’s stepdad is Ed Asner aka Carl Fredrickson from Up.
Supposedly, the whole storyline in the Karate Kid 3 about how Daniel and the girl who co-stars with him deciding to become friends instead of dating originated from Ralph Macchio refusing to do any romantic scenes with an actress who was so much younger than him because he felt uncomfortable and thought it was creepy.
#Sundayrundown Cobra kai never dies! This show is up there with Top Gun Maverick and Creed in that it not only matches the original, but might even surpass it. A couple of fun facts: Miguel is actually the star of the new Blue Beetle movie and Ralph Maccio STILL looks young for his age as he is a 60 year old man and looks like a guy in his early 40s.
Daniel is a two time champion not just a champion he won the title in the first film and defended it and won it in the third film
I know we feel bad for Johnny, but Daniel was so not bullying him guys, c'mon.

Daniel doesn't really bully Johnny, but he just pulls his chain and teases him. There is some lingering resentment, so he rubs it in. Most people would do the same, I think.

Before I watched this show, I was not a Karate Kid fan. Never saw any of the movies. My buddy kept on begging me to give this show a shot. I told him I'd never even seen the movies. He said. "Alright, we'll see the movies! Then we'll watch the show!"
I wasn't all that gung-ho about it, but I thought: "Alright, cool. Why not?"
Man, am I happy I made that decision!!! If I didn't, I would've missed out on this incredible show! I put this right up there w/ Avatar: TLA as one of the best I've ever seen!

Such an amazing show. Kinda skipped it when it was on RUclips Red, but got into it on a whim when it got on Netflix. Binged everything they had online, binged every season day one when they released. But, I have wanted to keep the last couple on the list so I can binge them in one go.

Just keep in mind that in high school Johnny was from the Hills, Daniel was from Reseda. Worlds apart. Daniel doesn’t know he’s down and out. Probably assumes he’s still well-off. And Larusso’s kid wasn’t the driver, so not 100% her fault. But she still should’ve told or got her friend to do the right thing.
Rumor has it that one of the big reasons this show came to be is because of Ralph (LaRusso) and William (Johnny) guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother.

I came here after watching your reaction to the first Karate Kid movie and still find it funny and confusing that Kung Fu Panda is mentioned together with it as if 1984 and 2008 are that close.
Definitely caught more parallels watching the first episode this time around. The new boy moving in, having problems with the sink, the shades to hide his face, etc.

The opening is a combination of the original footage, alternate unused angles, and new footage, all used to frame the tournament more from Johnny’s perspective. :)

I thought the Karate Kid saga was finished decades ago. I had no idea it would come out of nowhere and be this good. If the final season is as good as I think it will be and lands the ending, I would say it will be my all time favorite show. Many shows never end well because they don't know how to end, but the writers of Cobra Kai said they had the ending in mind from the very beginning, so I expect the final year to be the best.
