the abrupt ending was meant to happen for 2 reasons 1st reason to give it the classic sport victory of the underdog story in case the movie was a 1-time movie deal... 2nd reason to pick right back up where it ended for the sequel if the movie did really well box office wise...mainly since the movie was designed to be just like the Rocky films but with a teen as the underdog...well it earned the right for a sequel right away after raking in 110 million.
Both Miyagi and Kreese (the Cobra Kai sensei) are combat veterans, but they took very different lessons from their wartime experiences. Kreese displays a cutout of himself in uniform at the door of his dojo trying to show how tough he is, Miyagi never mentions his experience even though he won a Congressional Medal of Honor. Miyagi was not only the bigger person, but the braver soldier.
You never win the the Medal of Honor, you are awarded it. It's never called the Congregation Medal of Honor, just the Medal of Honor. Congress and the President approve the citation.
I saw this in the theater when I was 9, and when the final kick happened, the audience erupted into cheers and applause. This is considered one of the most iconic movies on the 80s.
Cobra kai is such a great show. I have watched it through a ridiculous amount of times at this point. They do a really good job with character arcs for sure.
The best reaction I’ve seen to this movie! Instant subscriber. The look on your faces when Mr. Miyagi revealed the true purpose behind Daniel’s 4 days of chores … absolutely priceless. Keep up the great work!
@@OfficialMediaKnightsone of the things you got to do in the karate kid series is pay attention to every detail in the scene where lorusso's talking with his mother you can see Cobra Kai in between in the window...
@@OfficialMediaKnightsone of the things that is very important especially in this is the quote "too much advantage, your dojo." Basically what that means is even if Mr. Miyagi was to fight and beat everyone inside of the Cobra Kai's dojo, Sensei Kris can press charges against Miyagi I can put him in jail... All Martial Arts fights should be on NEUTRAL GROUND. That way if someone actually gets hurt either side can't sue.... This is why Miyagi chose the All Valley Tournament...
1:30 Ladies and gentleman, the unsung hero of this entire franchise. The guy who made it all possible and who set it all in motion and changed the lives of countless people forever: Freddie Fernandez! If he hadn't been behind that gate at that exact moment, NONE of this would've happened.
Huh. Never thought of that before, but you're right! Daniel might never have met Alli... then again they went to the same school, and were in a class together, so they probably would have... but would they have dated? Hmmm. 🤔 I think we can all agree Freddie turned out to be a do#chebag though, abandoning his friend when he was down and not hanging out w him anymore because he lost a fight (w a TWO-TIME All Valley Karate Champion). And I say that as someone named Fred!!! LOL. He seemed so friendly at first... but now that I think about it, I'm glad his face got smacked by the door. Haha.
One thing I appreciate is when Kreese the teacher orders Johnny to “ sweep the leg” and Johnny gives Kreese the look of pure disbelief. Johnny is shown to have some respect for Daniel at this point as well as the shock at how far Kreese would go
It was an abrupt ending because the opening scene to 2 was supposed to be the ending to 1. They cut the scene after training them and decided to have the actors come back for the 2nd movie and film it.
they couldn't have it 'reprise'? stupid choice. you need the 'aftermath' of something like that. There is a reason nobody else treats their movies like this.
@@OfficialMediaKnights Marshall Arts is a way of life..... That's why you inconsiderate it into daily LIFE, activities especially with HARD WORK... The next time you're HARD at work on your feet doing something in repetition... Stop, and ask yourself, what motions with what I am doing can help defend myself ? Then practice that as a form of DEFENSE..... BALANCE AND DEFENSE is first part of Marshall Arts... Once that has been established then you add in the offensive motions (Punches, kicks, ECT.) The basics of are Martial Arts are SIMPLE.... First learn what ways you can use to defend yourself using the first examples already mentioned, then PRACTICE THEM REPEATEDLY UNTIL IT'S ALL YOU KNOW, then worry about the ATTACKS or the OFFENSE.... Hears a secret to true MARTIAL ARTS, READY?!!! there are none..... AAAAAAAALL the Martial Arts " Styles" you've seen were all at one time IMPROVISED. They came up with it while doing every day things... whatever worked they kept, whatever didn't it got discarded or changed up in order to adapt to each opponent.... These are keys to TRUE MARTIAL ARTS, how do I know...... I eat BRUCE LEE, and that's all the man talked about in terms of Martial Arts... There really are no greater Martial Arts Techniques except for one, YOU PERSONALLY CREATE OR REFINE...
Fun fact: Mr. Miyagi's karate is based on moves found in Goju-ryu. This particular style not only focuses on striking but also some grappling and throwing that you would find in judo and jujitsu. Kreese's style is based on the Korean style of Tang Soo Do, also known as "Korean Karate". Also, Pat Morita's stunt double in the teen fight scene was world renowned karate champion and expert Fumio Demura who was a role model for many action stars like Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and Pat Johnson (the referee in the movie).
Oh wow! They had a karate champion on set! That is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing these fun facts 😄

The Goju Fist is shown in _The Karate Kid II_ , the villain dons it in the final fight on his uniform on the chest position. The Goju Fist also is my profile pic ✊🥋.
It's called muscle memory. Repetitive motion. He taught Daniel defense. I love Daniels look of disbelief/revelation of what happens when Miyagi has him go through the moves wax on, sand the floor, paint fence, paint house. This car was actually given to Ralph from the producer. He still has it and it makes an appearance in Cobra Kai. It is a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe convertible. Wonderful reaction. You think this movie has heart Karate Kid II has even more.
Exactly. Not only building muscle memory, but also muscle _mass_ which Daniel is lacking. He's been teaching himself karate out of books and "a couple of months at the Y," and from his exercises it looks like he's been concentrating on kicking. Miyagi-sensei needs to build up some arm strength for him so he can learn to block, not just kick.
@@Skye_WriterGood point! Muscle memory without muscle isn’t as effective. It is a fight and Daniel isn’t doing pushups and exercises like the Cobra Kai guys. He’s getting Daniel some upper body strength.
One of my favorites! I spent a year in Japan partly because of these movies. In the next one, off to Japan. Pat Morita was a stand-up comedian before this and he also a role in “Midway” about the WWII battle, the younger sister movie of “Tora!Tora!Tora!”. I think it is the definitive film about Pearl Harbor. Ralph Macchio also starred in “My Cousin Vinny”, a hilarious comedy. Nice reaction.
Thank you so much for watching! Also visiting Japan has been on our list for a while now! Can’t wait! Aiming to get that done soon. Adding the movies you mentioned on our list. It would be great to see both of them in different roles 😃
Every time the kid say “I really like your car, Mrs. Larusso!” I think to myself that I do, too. 69 Chevelle wagon with a V8 and a stick shift would make for a unique and cool street rod.
You guys are SO sweet and SO genuine. I'm loving these reactions - can't wait for more. Elisabeth Shue (Ail) is a lead in the fantastic 80's movie Adventures in Babysitting. It's a super fun movie to watch with an incredible soundtrack. Would love to see a reaction to it. Cheers from Canada! :)
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! That's honestly so sweet, this made our day!! Loving the recommendation as well, we'll definitely add it to our list!! Cheers back to Canada! 😊
@@OfficialMediaKnights It's my pleasure :). License to Drive with Corey Haim and Feldman is one more incredibly fun one to watch with a killer 80's soundtrack.
One of the biggest movies with Elizabeth Shue in the eighties was 'Cocktail', with Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise is known to most as an action star today, but he had a whole string of eighties movies.
I remember one thing about this movie. When it came out, everyone wanted to have a Bonsai tree :D It's pure nostalgia and Mr. Miyagi remains one of the best characters ever created. Fun fact is, Daniel and Johnny have been good friends ever since (in real life). Also, I'm totally IN for Cobra Kai reactions (even though you might've do it as a binge watch, since especially first seasons are short). Cobra Kai is one of those extremely rare examples where the follow up story is even better than the original and they did an incredible job with implementing the old story for a new audience and what they did with Johnny (as a main character) is Masterclass of writing. You will LOVE it and I can't wait for it :DD
Haha honestly we're seriously considering getting a little treelet for our studio 😂😂😂 This is so good to hear, and now we're even more pumped for Cobra Kai! We've heard so many great things about it!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights I hope you can introduce us to this Bonsai tree when you have adopted it. You could name him Mr. Miyagi and show it off with the launch of Cobra Kai...
Same director and composer as Rocky. The screenwriter wrote the script semi-autobiographically. If memory serves, the kid who was the most merciful and remorseful grew up to become a priest or minister.
The revelation of the purpose of the waxing and the painting had impressed me so much when I was a kid that this scene remains one of my most memorable moments in cinema. Whatever I do, I always take the time to perfectly master the basics because I consider that this painful moment is an investment that will pay off sooner or later. I often think Karate Kid played its part. Mr Miyagi instructed me 😎. But I would never have seen this movie again without this community. I really thought it was for the kids and I had moved on. Another great classic that I enjoyed seeing again thanks to you 😀.
It truly is a timeless classic! What an amazing lesson to learn through film. The reveal was executed perfectly. Because even though we knew the chore days were all gonna be Chekhov's gun they still surprised us with how they utilized it. So freaking creative! And such wholesome writing. Thank you for watching this with us and for being part of this community ❤️
Doing menial chores to test a student's patience and to develop strength and muscle memory is a standard trope in Asian martial arts movies. The ones that stick with me the most are from a movie (the title of which I can't remember) where the ensemble of main characters go to the Shaolin Temple to learn kung fu. One is put to work in the kitchen stirring giant vats of noodles with a long pole, and he becomes an expert in staff fighting. Another is put to work stoking the furnace using his bare hands to tear chunks of wood into smaller pieces to feed to the fire, and he becomes an expert in the tiger claw technique. If anyone in the comments recognizes those and can tell me the name of the movie, I'd be grateful. I remember it being a pretty good movie and would love to look it up so I can watch it again.
Ohhh that sounds awesome, hopefully the comment section can work its magic!! Definitely loved how they incorporated the mundane tasks to reutilize them for the actual fighting technique, so creative and smart!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights Even if that particular movie doesn't surface, one of the most reliably entertaining sub genres of kung fu movies is those which either end or begin with the Manchu army's attack upon and destruction of the Shaolin Temple ( the English dubbed line "Those damn Manchus!" became a familiar trope from those movies). One of the best of these is 1982's "Shaolin Temple" which gained international praise for its high production values, its fight choreography, and its presentation of genuine classical kung fu techniques. It used a cast of actual wushu champions and was the movie that introduced Jet Li to movie going audiences and gained him enough recognition that he went on to headline the popular "Once Upon a Time in China" series of films.
I've never seen your channel before, but I'm so happy you're watching it, and hope you continue on in the universe. This series is so incredibly special to me and I hope you guys enjoyed it. You did a wonderful reaction.
Thank you so much! @TheAchillesShield that means the world to us. We will definitely continue to watch this series. The first one was such an amazing time and now we’re invested in the characters. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
I saw this film in the theater when it came out and it was my first experience with an entire theater audience simultaneously jumping up and cheering when Daniel did that crane kick at the end. LOVED your reactions; this film was so important to many of us younger folk at the time, and probably some older ones as well. An instant classic. It was directed by John G. Avildsen, the same man who directed Rocky for which he won an Academy Award. You can DEFINITELY see his hand in it and a connection between the two films. Despite the sequels not being as powerful as the first film, I still think you would enjoy the next two -- especially the second where we get to see some more in-depth storytelling about Mr. Miagi's backstory. Great job, guys. Subscribing. ;)
Ahhhh that must have been such an amazing moment in theatres! That moment truly is a timeless one! We are so glad you enjoyed our reaction, it brightens our day to read comments like these! We adored this one so much, we will definitely check out the second one as well! Thanks so much for your kind words and support!! We are so glad to have you with us!
@@OfficialMediaKnightsWhen my Mom, my brother, and I saw it in the theater back in 1984, my Mom was 25, my brother was about 8, and I was 6. At that last kick, my Mom stood up right there in that theater and CHEERED!
Ralph Macchio was 22 years old when he played 16 year old high schooler in this movie. Such a young looking fellow and so convincing in this role. Steve Zabka who played Johnny was 19 years old, and became a good and close friend of Ralph Macchio for 40 years till todate. Ralph Macchio is the real karate kid. And Mr. Miyagi is the best sensei ever lived.❤❤❤
As Bruce Lee said "I don't fear the man that has practiced 10000 kicks one time. I fear the man that has practiced one kick 10000 times" All the work movements was to quickly train muscle memory.
I've known this movie practically my entire life and it still brings me to tears. I love it so much. Great reaction to this legendary film. Subscribed! 👍🏽
Thank you so much for watching this with us! Truly an incredible film. And to see how passionate, loving and kind the fan base is makes this experience even more wholesome ❤️
Mr. Miyagi life lessons and advices are so fire.... even till this day! When flashbacks of Mr. Miyagi advices from Karate Kid 1,2, n 3 come on on Cobra Kai, it really makes it have a deeper meaning.
The training reveal was one of the greatest of all time - think about it in the context of the level of sophistication of the 80's audience. Concepts like muscle memory (which was the whole point of the repetitive motions of the training, to ingrain it in his reflexes so that he wouldn't have to think about it) were esoteric at best. There are only a handful of truly great cinematic moments that will stay with me forever, and the feeling I had as an 11yo me in the theaters watching that reveal will be something I carry to the grave.
So not sure if many know this but Pat Morita's character has a very real and very famous name in the world of karate. Miyagi, as in Chōjun Miyagi. Not only did karate originate in Okinawa but one of the major and original founding schools of modern karate was the Gōjū-ryū style created by Chōjun Miyagi in the early 1900s.
Oh wow, we did not know that actually!! Thanks so much for sharing this, it's always a pleasure to learn more about backgrounds of movies, but also the cultures that are mentioned therein!
Awww but those are the good kind of tears, rewatching movies after some time really can let you see things in a whole new light! We are definitely continuing the journey for KK!
People always think that Daniel is younger because he is so small, but he’s actually 4 years older. Here’s their current ages Daniel 61 Johnny 57 and Ali 59
I grew up on these movies! Karate kid was one of the first underdog movies that is still relevant to this day and age. You guys have to watch 2 & 3 and get straight into cobra Kai! You will love it!
Very late to the party but I just want to say this is one of those rare karate kid reactions that saw the value of keeping in the scene where Daniel bows to Mr Miyagi after he's passed out drunk. It's an incredibly powerful and meaningful scene as Daniel has learned of his friends tragedy and has also just discovered that Mr Miyagi is a war hero after seeing his medals for valor. Daniel privately offers his respects to a man who was his friend and sensei 5 minutes ago but now means so much more to him. It's a truly beautiful moment and I'm glad you saw fit to include it in your reaction.
absolutely. They wanted to cut that whole scene and it would not have been the same movie without it. Also, the bow to Mr. Miyagi also marked a turning point for Daniel. He began his transition from a kid to a young man in his understanding that even tho' his problems were serious to him, other people have much more tragic issues in their lives.
To me this movie went over so well with people since a lot of us know what it's like to be poor, and trying to fit in with a majority kids who have more than us. I knew his frustration the moment he cried and said he hated his bike, he hated it in California, he hated his life now basically. How the only one happy now was his mama. And the fact Miyaghi knew what the kid needed in his life (a positive male father figure) and was there for him like this is the single most heart-warming thing I've ever seen on film. Such a great story and great message, for kids or adults. To see good people do good things, and want nothing back in return. (except for Wax on, Wax off...) ❤
I think every teenage boy in America fell in love with Elizabeth Shue when the movie was released! I certainly did. ❤ This is such an amazing movie. There are no flaws. We can all relate to many of the characters. It's about real life. And yes... Sometimes, you NEED the win..... Well done folks. 🙏🏻
i haven’t even finished the video yet. i know this is a shit ton of months late so yall probably won’t see but i’m so glad i stumbled upon yall video. y’all’s reactions over this movie, a staple of my childhood, really brings such joy and i saw yall have jaws up too which is my favorite “horror” movie. much love
John G. Avildsen isn't a well known name but he's an amazing director. Aside from Rocky and Lean On Me he also did a movie called The Power of One which is similar to The Karate Kid in many ways. It's a beautiful movie as well. Worth adding to your catalogue of gems here.
28:04 Mas Oyama, founder of the kyokushinkai style of karate, could actually catch a fly with chopsticks. However, he didn't just randomly snatch at it with his sticks until he got. He started with a fly with a piece of fishing line glued to it so it wouldn't just fly away never to be seen again, and he watched it over and over as it evaded his chopsticks until he could predict its flying patterns.
I don't know if anyone else posted this, but in the Halloween scene, did you notice that during Mr. Miyagi and Daniel's conversation, in the background are the curtain, the showerhead, and the metal ring used for Daniel's costume? Just a fun piece of trivia. Nice video!
Karate Kid I & II are the best. The others are so so. I still look forward to your reaction. I used to be in US Navy. After training, my first duty station was in Pear Harbor. I live in Virginia. It was a dream assignment. GPS was not prevalent in those days. I bought an Atlas, planned my drive with only 8 hours a day driving an stops I wanted. I drove across the US, let the Navy pay for my car to be shipped. Then flew to Hawaii. I was there for 3.5 years, longer than the standard 2 years for sea assignments. I didn't mind. I wanted an assignment to Singapore because I could speak Cantonese (native language) plus I learned Spanish and German in high school. Instead I was transferred to NSAWC (school next to Top Gun) training pilots and NFOs on how to conduct strike air warfare. It wasn't great and I left after ten years. Leaving base and there was a snow storm chasing me. I drove almost non-stop to keep ahead of. I would stop at rest stops for an hour and then drove again. It took me almost 2 days but well worth it.
Wow, what an incredible story you have! Thank you so much for taking the time to share it with us! Hawaii must have been beautiful! The drives must have been amazing too, it's one of our favorite things - just views, music and a smooth ride! So good for you that you took on so many changes and challenges, those moments enrich our lives so much! We will definitely check out the second one as well, so stay tuned for that!
@@OfficialMediaKnights Another good movie is Good Morning Vietnam. It starred Robin Williams a US Army radio DJ in Saigon. My family is Chinese and we lived in Saigon. After the war, even though China supported them, the Vietcongs started rounding up Chinese because they were afraid of spies. My family escaped by paying smugglers. We left on a wooden boat sitting on the floor with about several dozen people shoulder to shoulder. The ship grounded off of Malaysia and we rounded in a refugee camp with just a plot of land next to other refugees. It was barely an acre. My father and 2nd brother borrowed a machete or barter to borrow, then cut down branches to make a bed so we wouldn't sleep on the ground, then a roof with palm leaves to keep out the rain. We had a fire eventually because it was difficult to keep one going with monsoon season. My mother was pregnant with my youngest brother and got to go the hospital. We couldn't see her as we had no transportation. She came back with our youngest brother. r. Eventually, a church in the US sponsored us and that's how the family eventually became US citizens.
Lets be honest. If, nowadays, someone kicked open a door like that and it hit someone, that person would probably sue lol people back in the day just just chill af Great reaction guys, one of my favourite movies, glad ye enjoyed it!
Watched your reaction again.... Yes, the reveal was amazing... When we watched it in the theater, people were just blown away and cheering... What a moment....
This movie encapsulated my childhood, Including 5 years of Karate lessons. Love the trilogy and MASSIVE Cobra Kai fan! Hope to see you guys watching it soon. One of my favorite nostalgia. For a show that starts by taking place in 2018 there's a ton of 80's nostalgia. Cobra Kai takes place in 34 years later from Johnny's prospective. It's GREAT! If you guys have even The Boys, you'll see Ali playing a GREAT villain.
Can’t wait to check out Cobra Kai! Loved this first film. It was everything we expected and more! So wholesome! Thank you so much for watching this with us 😃
@@OfficialMediaKnightsI liked the Karate Kid movies the first and second ones. When I came across Cobra Kai I was hesitant to watch it. It's one of the best shows! Any weakness in any of movies' plots are fixed and the martial arts are incredible! You will really love it!
@hassansulaiman3848 I wasn't a huge fan of the third movie. Cobra Kai fixed what I wasn't a big fan of. It was OK. I like it a lot more with the first conversation with the 2 main "villains".
Most Congressional Medals of Honor are awarded posthumously, so the fact that Mr. Miyagi was awarded with one while living says a lot about his bravery and skill. ETA: That big heavy music sting when Miyagi puts his hands together to "heal" Daniel's knee is absolutely iconic.
Dudes Great reaction to this movie. Mr.Miyagi was the childhood goat of the 90's. I dont think there was a kid in the 90's that saw this movie and didn't want to learn martial arts. Also we dont get that many movies nowadays about learning discipline and delayed gratification like how this movie does!
Duuude thank you!! It made our day reading that you enjoyed our reaction!! You are so on point with that comment - that was something we realized watching this as well, they took the time to show Daniel doing all those tasks without jumping straight to the 'Aha' moment. That just makes it so much more powerful!! There's this notion that our generation has such 'short attention spans' when all we crave is the good stuff that's not scared to take its time!!
So fun fact about that crane kick at the end of the movie. The guy who plays Johnny, genuinely took that kick to the face because the filmmakers didn't think they could find any other way to get a more realistic reaction. He agreed to it of course but it still hurt, A LOT Haha Also i found your channel because of your Hunger Games reactions on a random whim to see people reacting to the movie and you two have fast tracked to being my favourite reactors i've ever watched 👍
@@andreadeamon6419 I heard it from the DVD commentary of the first movie that William Zabka actually took that last kick full contact. I never heard about Ralph taking a full kick though until you mentioned it
When a woman (or the occasional man) starts her response to you with, "Actually", there's a pretty good chance she's trying to prove something (that she knows more than you, or is smarter than you are), and that there are ego/insecurity issues she's dealing with. In my experience, anyway... Mr *Miyagi* would NEVER start a sentence with "Actually"!!! LOL. He did respond to Kreese at one point saying, "Afraid facts mixed up..." (because they WERE)-- but no "Actually"!!! 😊@@redwolf1668
Miyagi is one of the best cinematic father figures ever portrayed. Kudos to Robert Mark Kamen (screenwriter) and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita for bringing such a bright soul off the page.
as someone that has seen countless reactions to this classic, this one was the best. i saw this movie in the theater when i was 12 and it was one of those life moments that stay with you - your reaction was like reliving that moment for me - thank you! also, you're right about the psychological manipulation and abuse about Kreese and Cobrai Kai (without giving any spoilers, that is the core premise of the 'Cobra Kai' TV series which i also think you'll greatly enjoy) 👍
Wow this is such a huge compliment!! Thank you so much for your kind words! We're so glad to hear that they're delving more into that aspect in the show, and we're so excited to get into it as soon as we can!
I studied karate for a little while. I was fortunate enough to train with a master from Japan for one day. He spoke of the sun and moon and how it applies to fighting and it was inspirational.
All that work that Daniel did was a perfect example of setting up your payoffs and paying off your set-ups. Same goes with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi practicing the crane kick.
You guys are awesome, I loved this reaction! The Karate Kid movies are addicting, there’s something so fun about watching these 80’s movies. Thanks for giving us this video. 😄👏
For my entire childhood, every kid I ever knew tried out the Crane Kick :D Back then the Karate Kid was practically a phrase you as a kid used for any martial artist or the epithome of karate, especially here in the Balkans. He was a legend you wanted to be. My generation was about 8 when we saw the movie for the first time on video in the 1990.
Great reaction... I understand why they do it, but when a remake is done on a movie this legendary, it can never live up to the original. That is certainly the case with the remake of it. This movie is one of the best ever made. The scene when Daniel realizes why he was having him doing all those chores, is cinematic perfection... Pat Morita turns in one of the finest acting performances ever seen on screen. Love this movie
It's so nice to see fresh eyes watch this, "wax on wax off" was so ubiquitous in my childhood you couldn't escape it, it's super cool to have the reset
As a 43 year old I love watching your reactions from 80s/90s movies. Goonies? Stand By Me? Beverly Hills Cop? More recent but still old A Beautiful Mind
I love the first confrontation with Miyage and Kreese. At this point we know Miyage is dangerous but we don’t know if he’s better than Kreese. Miyage knows, but I like the way he backs out of the studio instead of turning around. He doesn’t underestimate anyone.
LOVED your reaction to this one. I was 22 when this came out, from NJ. My father was a firefighter in Newark, and grew up there (Daniel's hometown), plus I'm half-Italian (father), grew up without my father around (divorced when I was 10), and I was bullied, so this movie really hit home for me... INSPIRING!! I appreciate your knowledge of film techniques and your overall human understanding also (INCLUDING the respect and great relationship between you two, it's nice to see these days w all the feminist crap and power struggles). Don't even get me started, LOL. I ABSOLUTELY think you're ready for Karate Kid II now, while the first movie's still fairly fresh in your minds... it's right up there with this one, you'll love it!! Takes place mostly in Okinawa. Thanks again guys and keep up the good work! 🙏❤
Times were different back when this movie came out. We didn't have a flood of movies being released all the time so when a great movie like this came out, everyone went to see it and and it would stay in theaters for months. It was quality over quantity back then.
I really wish the actor that played Mr Miyagi was still alive when they started the Cobra Ki series. Though I love how they’ve woven him into the story and how his teachings are continuing after him Danial his kids and more. Man I hope you guys will react to that series
Awesome reaction having had no spoilers ahead of the movie really makes a difference. Interesting fact after the movie was over the producers gifted Ralph Macchio the classic yellow car which he still has to this day! 😊
@OfficialMediaKnights Not to give any spoilers but the car returns not only in the movies but as Daniel kept it too it was shown in an episode of Cobra Kai as well.
Karate Kid 2 was filmed in Hawaii and I remember seeing the movie set when I lived on the island of Oahu back then. I wish I had the time to visit the set and possibly meet Ralph Macchio (Daniel) and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). I was busy with school and work at the time, but really regret not making the time to meet Ralph and Pat. Now I will never have the opportunity to meet Pat Morita, but someday I hope to meet Ralph Macchio.
@@OfficialMediaKnights If and when you ever get to Hawaii, you should visit the areas where they filmed Karate Kid 2. You can just Google it. Anyway, it is a beautiful place. Lots of movies and TV shows were filmed there, like Jurassic Park, Magnum, P.I., Hawaii Five-O, Lost, King Kong, Pearl Harbor, From Here to Eternity, Jumanji, etc.
At the opening sequence of the tournament there were some contestants that were renowned actual competitors but they downplayed their abilities to make the cobra kai's look to be the best. But all the Cobra actors and Ralph did like a month or 2 of training prior to shooting. There's a making of you can find here on you tube. Oh and Ralph Macchio was a bit of a teen heart throb back then. He was on every teen mag back then.
The guy that Johnny fights in the semi finals is Darryl Vidal. He is actually a skilled martial artist and did a lot of fight choreography and stunts, including when Mr Myiagi was on the post doing the crane kick.
Fun fact: when I was about 8 years old back in 1985, this either aired on cable or my parents rented it. I was on punishment and my mom wouldn’t let me come out of my room to watch it with them. She finally relented and let me come out during the final fight scene at the end. Btw, I was on punishment for not doing my homework and going outside to play as if I had already done it. 😆

the abrupt ending was meant to happen for 2 reasons 1st reason to give it the classic sport victory of the underdog story in case the movie was a 1-time movie deal...

So true! What a parallel! Thank you for pointing that one out 😃
You never win the the Medal of Honor, you are awarded it. It's never called the Congregation Medal of Honor, just the Medal of Honor. Congress and the President approve the citation.
Amen! 🙏🏽💪
FYI...no one wins a CMOH. They receive it from the President and Congress..
@@OfficialMediaKnights are you guys going to react to cobra kai
I saw this in the theater when I was 9, and when the final kick happened, the audience erupted into cheers and applause. This is considered one of the most iconic movies on the 80s.
Johnny’s backstory is told in Cobra Kai. It is sad and it’s heart warming how that series allows Johnny to heal from all his wounds.
Ahh man! Thank you for the massive compliment. It means the world ❤️ That reveal was awesome! Everything had its purpose!
Agreed. Priceless

@@OfficialMediaKnightsone of the things that is very important especially in this is the quote "too much advantage, your dojo." Basically what that means is even if
Mr.
Hahaha that is so true though!! Freddie was the real MVP of this entire adventure!
Freddie Fernandez for Cobra Kai final season
Haha.
lol
Oh yes, I agree!
One thing I appreciate is when Kreese the teacher orders Johnny to “ sweep the leg” and Johnny gives Kreese the look of pure disbelief. Johnny is shown to have some respect for Daniel at this point as well as the shock at how far Kreese would go
Yeah. And he wanted to win fairly. Johnny didn’t want to foul to win.
It was an abrupt ending because the opening scene to 2 was supposed to be the ending to 1. They cut the scene after training them and decided to have the actors come back for the 2nd movie and film it.
Ahhh that makes sense!

Ralph also co-starred in a underrated drama comedy with Nick Nolte called Teachers.
Every time the kid say “I really like your car, Mrs. Larusso!” I think to myself that I do, too. 69 Chevelle wagon with a V8 and a stick shift would make for a unique and cool street rod.

I remember one thing about this movie. When it came out, everyone wanted to have a Bonsai tree :D
It's pure nostalgia and Mr.
Haha honestly we're seriously considering getting a little treelet for our studio 😂😂😂

Another fun fact, Pat Morita had never taken karate classes in his life before this film.

I just found out that the movie with the soup and firewood for training was also called "Shaolin Temple," but this one is from 1979.

Subscribing. ;)

Growing up in the 80s the karate kid movies(3) were everything. Cant wait for you two to watch the next one. Awesome reaction as always.

28:04 Mas Oyama, founder of the kyokushinkai style of karate, could actually catch a fly with chopsticks. However, he didn't just randomly snatch at it with his sticks until he got.

So fun fact about that crane kick at the end of the movie. When a woman (or the occasional man) starts her response to you with, "Actually", there's a pretty good chance she's trying to prove something (that she knows more than you, or is smarter than you are), and that there are ego/insecurity issues she's dealing with. 'Way back in 1994' cries in 80's baby tears
My generation was about 8 when we saw the movie for the first time on video in the 1990.
funfact, it wasnt planned daniel would actually catch the fly with the chopsticks, it magically happened xD
Pat Morita got an Oscar nomination for this iconic performance (Best Actor in a Supporting Role)
As a 43 year old I love watching your reactions from 80s/90s movies. Goonies? Stand By Me? Beverly Hills Cop?
More recent but still old A Beautiful Mind
Heartwarming fact: Ralph Machio still has that car
I saw this in the theatre when it came out. At 46:02 the whole audience stood up and cheered, standing O. whole theatre. amazing moment
Literally everyone born in the 80s was practicing their Crane Kick for years and years.
literally just watched this for the first time a few days ago and I LOVED IT danny's such a cool nice kid
Haha that's so cool! Such a great movie, and Daniel truly is a gem!!
I love the first confrontation with Miyage and Kreese. At this point we know Miyage is dangerous but we don’t know if he’s better than Kreese. Miyage knows, but I like the way he backs out of the studio instead of turning around. He doesn’t underestimate anyone.
How is there a living soul on the planet that hasn't seen this classic?
We were too busy watching the movies coming out during our time growing up! We’re catching up with all of the classics from other decades 😃
Loved this reaction from you both. So glad you enjoyed a film that means so much to countless fans. It's a masterpiece.
Denise's smile is so heartwarming 💯 I'm glad I stumbled upon this channel 👍🏿👍🏿 the world needs more of that smile and less of everything else.
Thanks for bringing the childhood back 🥲
Thank you for all the support! So happy to hear you enjoyed ❤️
Times were different back when this movie came out. We didn't have a flood of movies being released all the time so when a great movie like this came out, everyone went to see it and and it would stay in theaters for months. It was quality over quantity back then.
The first 2 are the Best one of he top all time classic martial arts flicks with a Heart and very nice teachings
I really wish the actor that played Mr Miyagi was still alive when they started the Cobra Ki series. Though I love how they’ve woven him into the story and how his teachings are continuing after him Danial his kids and more. Man I hope you guys will react to that series
I miss the 1980s.No Cell Phones No Social Media.was a great time to be a teen.
Awesome reaction having had no spoilers ahead of the movie really makes a difference.
Interesting fact after the movie was over the producers gifted Ralph Macchio the classic yellow car which he still has to this day! 😊
That is such an awesome gift to keep! That car is now iconic. Glad it’s in good hands 😄
@OfficialMediaKnights Not to give any spoilers but the car returns not only in the movies but as Daniel kept it too it was shown in an episode of Cobra Kai as well.
07:57 "because he's The Outsider..." lol at how that's doubly true since Ralph was also in The Outsiders prior to this film.
Ohhhh very nice little easter egg!! That's another movie we wanna check out!!
Pat Morita was great!! He took care of Daniel as Mr. Myagi in the Karate Kid movies.
Hawaii has actually been a destination we’ve both been meaning to visit! Must be beautiful! We really do hope you get to meet Ralph Macchio someday!
Kudos to Daniel for going to school with a black eye on the very first day. My ass would've stayed home.
We need a “Miyagi“ film or series. I would love to see how he came up to become a great man, teacher & mentor that he was.
That is actually an excellent idea! I’d love to see an origin series that ends with him meeting Daniel full circle ❤️
@@OfficialMediaKnights Exactly!
those sanding and painting were also for the muscle memory, thats the only permanent way to learn something like karate.
