I loved Dayanara Torres upon seeing her picture in the newspaper when she arrived in the Philippines for Ms universe '94 so sweet with that ready smile after that long hours of travel!
Dayanara Torres, Miss Puerto Rico and the winner of this Miss Universe 1993 did not have the poise of a beauty queen, as Miss Colombia and Miss Venezuela did. Miss Puerto Rico looked lost among the two South American Amazons (tall women). But her freshness, naturalness and beautiful face helped her win the contest. Miss Puerto Rico's reaction and humility projected when chosen as one of the 3 finalists, showed that she did not expect to get this far. Miss Colombia, very intelligent, eloquent and elegant but not as beautiful as the other two. Also Miss Colombia's updo hair made her face looked plumped and a bit older. Miss Venezuela also very articulated, intelligent and beautiful, but she looked too rehearsed and stiffed. Miss Venezuela was very confident that she would be the winner. She looked very arrogant during the contest. Dayana Mendoza, Stefania Fernandez and Gabriela Isler the last three Miss Universe from Venezuela, beside their beauty and intelligece, projected during their resprective pageant humble and congenial personalities. Although many people did not like Miss Venezuela's dress I thought it was gorgeous but it was ahead of its time. That dress would have been a winner now.

Definitely, your comment is right on the spot. I truly believe that the colombians since they haven't won a title of Miss Universe since 1958, they are really starving to see a delegate from their country win, and everytime Miss Colombia makes the top 5 finalists and doesn't win, they claim 'title robbed', 1993 was no exception. Puerto Rico was the right choice that year even tho personally I liked Venezuela better.

I really liked all the three finalists. Miss Puerto Rico was genuine, unlike the 2001 or 2006 women. Venezuela was very beautiful and gracious. Colombia was stunning too.
Observing the body lenguage especially the faces of Miss Colombia and Miss Puerto Rico while Dick Clark is explaining the importance of the position of 1st runner-up, it is easily noticeable that Miss Colombia thought she had it in the bag, she looks so confident like, "c'mon, put the crown on me already", while Miss Puerto Rico looks more nervous waiting for the final result to be told hoping it was her. Poor Miss Colombia when she finally realized it wasn't her.
Puerto rico gave the most realistic answer. Colombia wanted to plant flowers and threes all over the world (miss universe Org wasn't that rich at the time to afford that) Venezuela wanted to open a psychiatric ward to fix every rebel in the world in a year ! Too much $$ too little time.. Puerto Rico was sincere and made the most sense. Ill go give motivational and prevention chats all over the world and you'll just have to pay for all my first class tickets ! Whoop whoop .we have a winner ;-)
I agree with your comments about Miss Colombia she was 100% certain it was going to be her and although she was stunning i find her a bit butch, lol. Miss Puerto Rico (Dayanara Torres) did a great job as Miss Universe 1993 and she has a lot of class and she worked hard in the role and was involved in no scandals like some winners have been in the past. Dayanara Torres was married for a time to the singer Marc Anthony who later married Jennifer Lopez.
Lol That crown could fit 2 heads!!!! Dayanara was facially the prettiest among the 3 despite being the shortest. I would have personally chosen Colombia to be the winner though. But even until now, Dayanara is still very beautiful..

También se dice que fue por una rencilla entre Osmel Sousa y María Conchita Alonso, quien integraba el Jurado. La balsera le dió bajísimo puntaje a Milka y altísimo puntaje a Miss Colombia Paula Andrea Betancur su preferida. Actualmente (2013) Milka Chulina es empresaria musical en "Origami Films".

Venezuela should have been MU 1993. She was gorgeous, elegant and intelligent. Fascinatingly BEAUTIFUL! Colombia was also beautiful with captivating, exotic features. Puerto Rico was ordinary with no sparkle or intelligence. Her final answer: blah, blah, blah...nonsense!
It's without a doubt, Miss Colombia should have won....I remember seeing this crowning and my whole family was just in disbelief that Puerto Rico won, it was basically a shock, the woman is not even THAT beautiful! it was stolen from Miss Colombia...
