MUO didn't want back to back winner so India got robbed and usa won the crown.same happened in Miss world 2008 when india Parvathy was robbed badly and Miss Russia won the crown
Exactly just based on looks, Parvathy's personality and intellect reflected in her answers. Why she wasn't crowned is beyond me. To me she is the winner.
The judges made the right decision. USA excelled in all 3 categories, I really couldn't imagine India as Miss Universe but she answered her question really well!
This is perfect example of "politics" in beauty pageant. Miss India is surely stunning and gave the best answer of them all. But they cant give her the crown because they dont want a back to back win for India. They had to give it to this Miss USA because of her race and the location of the pageant (African continent for the first time this pageant was ever held). Weeks before this pageant was televised live, I had a copy of TV guide and in that issue is a picture of Chelsi and a big question saying "Will Miss USA win?". My friends advised me not to watch the pageant because even before I that coronation night, the judges already made up their mind for Miss USA. (Not to mention that before that coronation night, the last time a Miss USA won the crown was in 1980 which is a long 15 years).

First of all, I want to give my deepest condolence to Miss USA and my sympathy to her family. I will not blaim you for winning the crown coz same with miss India you are just a candidate who participated in getting the crown in 1995. However, this will never change the fact that Miss India was more deserving the crown than you . This is fair judgement from the Philippines.
Before the final question round, all scores are zeroed, so all three girls have equal shot at the opportunity. They reached final three means they excelled in overall performance. Now its your answer that decides.
The girls that India sent in the 90's were unbelievably smart. And i agree, india gave a tad bit better answer than usa but clearly usa was the prettiest among the 3.
I think this is probably the toughest choice of any Miss Universe pageant I've ever seen. Canada was clearly the audience's favorite, USA showed quiet dignity and India was very erudite. The old saying is true - any ONE of those three would have been an exceptional Miss Universe!
Chelsi has given a very similar answer every time, Miss Texas USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe 1995, all about the " i have seen XX number of women competing and i am proud of them.

USA won on her overall presentation. Judges were told to take into account the final answer plus their overall impression of the contestants in the competition that evening. That is how Chelsi won. Plus the fact, that they used the same set of judges for the preliminaries and the telecast. They knew who they wanted for the crown when the final three were announced.
India was clearly the winner. She may not be as beautiful when compared with others but her intelligence along with her personality made her a top contestant for the title. The sachet factor came in the way and also the back to back winning were the possible reasons for India not winning the title.
I am with everyone in believing that Ms India gave a far more empowered answer. The same way that Janine Tugonon gave the best answer back in 2012. But Chelsea has the brightest personality. Her aura is pleasing and I think it is beyond constestation. I think they judged the pageant as a whole and not just the final answer. A crown well deserved

All these comments on here... the final questions is not the only thing that’s part of your score on who wins the crown. Preliminary scores, costume, swim suit, evening gown, and other questions you haven’t seen on screen.
Miss Canada actually gave the best answer. Miss USA didn't really answer the question. Then again, the result wasn't really just based on the final Q and A. The judges had to choose a biracial woman for symbolic reasons.
Even factoring in the final answer, Miss USA deserved to win. Miss India gave what sounded like a stronger answer to the question, but that had almost everything to do with the fact that the status of women in India at the time was much lower than women in the United States or Canada. Miss USA and Miss Canada had to answer the question relative to what was going on in their home countries.
So you think that at that time in the US, the women were not treated equally as men ???. Let's just drop this act and agree that based on that answer , India deserved the crown !! No hate to chelsi , she was amazing but we know that India performed better !!

I think this is probably the toughest choice of any Miss Universe pageant I've ever seen. Canada was clearly the audience's favorite, USA showed quiet dignity and India was very erudite. The old saying is true - any ONE of those three would have been an exceptional Miss Universe!

Yes, that was, and still is, a common answer from frontrunners in most USA pageants. Hope they retire that sentiment soon. It's now very old!

USA won on her overall presentation. Judges were told to take into account the final answer plus their overall impression of the contestants in the competition that evening. That is how Chelsi won. Plus the fact, that they used the same set of judges for the preliminaries and the telecast. They knew who they wanted for the crown when the final three were announced.

India was clearly the winner. She may not be as beautiful when compared with others but her intelligence along with her personality made her a top contestant for the title. The sachet factor came in the way and also the back to back winning were the possible reasons for India not winning the title.

I am with everyone in believing that Ms India gave a far more empowered answer. The same way that Janine Tugonon gave the best answer back in 2012. But Chelsea has the brightest personality. Her aura is pleasing and I think it is beyond constestation. I think they judged the pageant as a whole and not just the final answer. A crown well deserved

Preliminary scores, costume, swim suit, evening gown, and other questions you haven’t seen on screen.
Miss Canada actually gave the best answer. Miss USA didn't really answer the question. Then again, the result wasn't really just based on the final Q and A. The judges had to choose a biracial woman for symbolic reasons.
Miss India deserved it . She is gorgeous among all three and with the best answer

Even factoring in the final answer, Miss USA deserved to win. Miss India gave what sounded like a stronger answer to the question, but that had almost everything to do with the fact that the status of women in India at the time was much lower than women in the United States or Canada. Miss USA and Miss Canada had to answer the question relative to what was going on in their home countries.
