It is 2021 and I still love this Miss Teen USA Pageant. Charlotte was so genuine and her story was very impactful. I totally agree it was her night to win it all. The composure she showed, the judges scores, and the contestants reaction to her win is a clear indication she made an awesome impression that year.
My parents and I were staying at the same hotel the contestants were in during the '93 MTUSA contest in Biloxi, MS. I still remember one of the girls coming down to talk to us by the pool one evening. It was Miss Teen New Mexico and her name was Lynette Ochoa. She was a sweetheart and very down to earth. We made small talk for about 15 mins, and I was smitten. I just learned that she passed away in 2014 at age 39, after battling cancer. Not sure why I felt like sharing this story, but it is very painful to learn of her death. God rest her soul.
She lived fully I'm sure, pursuing her dreams and aspirations not necessary to win a crown but to become the best version of herself. I'm sure she succeeded. Your remembering her is touching and sweet. She impressed you and that is the goal of every title-holder, to be impressive for just being herself.
Golden era for the Miss Universe Organization...Amazing pageants, gorgeous winners, fabulous productions, the songs, the music, the details...all gone. THANKS MR. TRUMP, YOU'RE FIRED!!
these results were just FANTASTIC! the judges chose the best for the crown, and the best for 2nd runner up and the best for 1st runner up...those pageantas back then were really exciting and full of good choices..that`s not possible to see in today`s pageants were everything is a crap!
This was the last pageant Dick Clark hosted and as usual he did a fabulous job, RIP. As for the pageant, I absolutely love Charlotte, my favourite Miss Teen USA. I do feel bad for Kelly Lloyd though, she probably would have won any other year, not to mention she was then robbed big time in 2002 where she was absolutely the most deserving.
Life changing moment for Charlotte Lopez. I think she joined pagentry to build her confidence and self esteem. I wonder if she ever thought she could actually be Miss Teen USA or if she was just enjoying the experience. Her reaction to winning is one of the most emotional I've ever seen and it is really beautiful. She went on to pursue modeling and acting with moderate success. She also was adopted as an adult by a lovely family who wanted her to have a family as she went on to make her way in the world. When I read that story all I could think was that she was likely happier on her day of adoption than on the night of her crowning.
When they announced Pennsylvania as the second runner up I shouted...."Good...get out of there!" She didn't belong there. I would have given her place to Hawaii that year. Pennsylvania had a smug arrogance about her and I was so happy when Charlotte won.
I miss these pageants back then when the winners showed real emotions upon winning. Nowadays they are so rehearsed that even when winning that "freshness" has been lost.
I think with Vermont's background in foster homes, her well-publicized $19.99 gown, and her poise. It was hers to lose that night. Any other year Ind. and Penn could easily have won.
@JorgeInternacional I agree with you in a way. The '90s for me were the golden years of the Miss Universe organization. I think most of the "pageantry" in their contests are gone. But I think Donald Trump had to make changes to get higher TV ratings. However, I wish they would bring back more glamour and "magic" to the evening gown competitions, especially with the song choices.
@moviesmusicvidfan I know...the problem is that he's gotten the opposite: No longer a Miss Teen USA broadcasted in a major TV network due to lack of ratings....and loss of ratings from both Miss USA and Universe..even lagging behind Miss America!
Still scratching my head to this day as to how Miss Pennsylvania snuck and read the final question on the card before Dick Clark even read it out loud and still bombed!?!?... She was pretty tho and her gown is one of the best gowns in Teen USA history
The gown doesn't make the girl, the girl makes the gown. Charlotte Lopez, Miss Vermont, is the perfect example of that. Deserving winner and a absolutely lovely Miss Teen USA.
There had to be practically a unanimous vote from the judges for Charlotte...except for Anne Gorrissen who gave her low scores all through the competition. Hawaii should have made the top three instead of Pennsylvania. I think the reason she didn't was because her answers sounded too rehearsed and not spontaneous enough.
Guy-Rex was coaching Hawaii contestants at the time and they were very prepared. The down side of preparation is that it can appear insincere and rehearsed instead of natural and spontaneous. Moreso against a young lady like Miss Vermont, it was even more evident. During this time Hawaii produced really strong contenders with many making the semi-finals and finals.
The pageants were much better and easier to watch back in this era, its a shame that now the glamour and excitment is not really there anymore. I almost want to not watch them nowadays.
She did answer it in a sense because she stated, she's ready to do the job, which means she's a person prepared to work and fulfill the tasks. Miss Teen USA is a job. With each year after this pageant took place, it shows more that Miss Indiana totally didn't answer the question. It was a nice answer but it was like she was answering a completely different question. We're not to judge others but I got the impression that Indiana's answer seemed so rehearsed as if she whipped out that answer in a moment of pressure and adrenaline. However, all three did very well. It would have been interesting if early leader Ohio made it to top 6, or even of Miss New York had made it to top 3 given how she was top 3 behind Pennsylvania and Vermont all night.
The answers: Miss Vermont- the winner. Miss Indiana- cookie cutter. I agree with it but it's so cookie cutter. Miss Pennsylvania- technically she did not in fact answer the question. She never said what qualities about her makes her a role model. Miss Teen USA 1992 Jamie Solinger looked beautiful during her final walk. GO IOWANS!!! ;-)
Yes.. Jamie was sooo pretty during this pageant compared to the night she won! And she was rocking that Versace gown!! And she had one of the best farewell walks ever.. (sticking her tongue at the camera...i loved her)
Seems to me that Indiana and Pennsylvania didn't show good sportsmanship to one another. When they were in the isolation booth they didn't even talk to each other. Maybe they were just nervous but it would seem they could have supported one another. Pennsylvania, especially, when her name was called to the final three, seemed so full of herself and her buck teeth made her look unattractive. Her final answer was proof of her arrogance.
Miss Indiana should have gotten down on her knees and thanked God after the pageant for weeks, because she was too lucky to make top 3. New York, Georgia, Ohio were a number of those more complete and knockouts than Indiana. Vermont, great answer and well-summerized about her experience. Indiana, she did not answer the question. A good answer, but for a totally different question ha ha. Pennsylvania, she did answer the question, but not the greatest answer. She stated that she is ready to do the job, by getting out there and and helping people and the she has the qualities. In many ways, that answer was refreshing because it was to the point, very firm, and very American "go-get". Back in 93 and when you hear it at first, Pennsylvania's answer seems off or underwhelming, but after watching and hearing it again, it makes more sense. It is direct and no frills.
Why should Miss Indiana have gotten down on her knees and thank the lord for making top 3? In all honesty, she did much better than both New York and Georgia in most of the categories. I think she looked much more like a winner than New York, Georgia, and Ohio. I will say that I was shocked that Miss Ohio didn't make the final 6. Regardless of what you or I think, Miss Indiana did a fabulous job and would have made a great winner had she won.
She is always my favorite Miss Teen USA. Extremely naturally beautiful and intelligent girl. I was very fascinated with her past life.

Thank you for sharing. It's a part of history.

Dayanara and Charlotte both from Puerto Rico❤ Miss Universe and Miss teen USA
It sounds like Dick Clark's voice was cracking up a bit after he announced Charlotte as the winner. I think he rooted for her :-)
ur absolutely ryt her crying moment when she announce d winner so touching hu...

Charlotte was the best that night. I remember that I like her so much.

one of my favorite moments in all of pageant history. She is an amazing person
Ms. Vermont was in the movie Rage Carrie 2 she's prettier in that movie.
+Brandy W. omg yesss I'm watching that movie right now❤
Lauren Plant I don't know why she stop acting.
Dang I ALWAYS get teary-eyed when I watch this!
When they announced Pennsylvania as the second runner up I shouted...."Good...get out of there!" She didn't belong there. I would have given her place to Hawaii that year. Pennsylvania had a smug arrogance about her and I was so happy when Charlotte won.
True. And she buckled in the final question.
Only Vermont answered the question. The rightful winner won.
I miss these pageants back then when the winners showed real emotions upon winning. Nowadays they are so rehearsed that even when winning that "freshness" has been lost.
Kenya Moore is so pretty here.
I think with Vermont's background in foster homes, her well-publicized $19.99 gown, and her poise. It was hers to lose that night. Any other year Ind. and Penn could easily have won.
Except for 94...Shauna was way too articulate for Indiana or Pennsylvania to have been able to beat her
Yes for sure Indiana
the theme song of ms teen usa wow! so beautyfull what a 90s
7:30 Kenya is so Beaautiful!!!
Miss Vermont is a stunning beauty.
She is a lovely person.
+Brandy W. She was the clear winner. Brains, Beauty and Heart. And how touching when she looks at her adoptive mother who is in tears for her sake...
***** Ms. Vermont she's in the movie Rage Carrie 2
She starred in Ricky Martin's video "She's All I Ever Had"

After Vermont’s answer, I thought “the other two should just go home now.”
beautiful sweet looking girl and Puertorican

The gown doesn't make the girl, the girl makes the gown. Charlotte Lopez, Miss Vermont, is the perfect example of that. Deserving winner and a absolutely lovely Miss Teen USA.
Loving the song serenading Charlotte ... Maybe it's "What a Night It is" by Tom Bähler
Pennsylvania totally blew it with her answer!
I think it was Vermont's even before the final answer.
Thanks for uploading, intlpageants! I love Charlotte Lopez!
Latin blood in Charlotte Lopez. A real winner.
Yes, Puerto Rican descent and was actually born in Puerto Rico!
There had to be practically a unanimous vote from the judges for Charlotte...except for Anne Gorrissen who gave her low scores all through the competition. Yes, even she she got one #3 vote from Gorrisen, Charlotte probably still emerged with the lowest score.
Love the gowns
Jamie, Miss Teen USA 1992 has a Dayana Mendoza look...amazing how she was robbed in Miss USA 1998
The pageants were much better and easier to watch back in this era, its a shame that now the glamour and excitment is not really there anymore. I almost want to not watch them nowadays.
haha, you and me both. I'm a red head so, she was my favorite haha
Charlotte lopez
Pennsylvania did not answered the final question directly...she deserve for 2nd runner up.
She did answer it in a sense because she stated, she's ready to do the job, which means she's a person prepared to work and fulfill the tasks. Miss Teen USA is a job. I forgot to mention Jaime is my second favorite, how perfect to have them both on stage

There's a loud sound of rushing air in that booth that cancels out noise so they couldn't hear each other even if they did try to talk.
Pennsylvania was just being honest and proud of what she could do if she were to win. She did a fine job, at least she should have been 1st rup.
This was the end of Dick Clark's run with the MUO and final hosting of Miss Universe Organization pageants.
Charlotte Lopez is The first Latina ( Puerto Rican) to win Miss Teen USA
Uncle Dick is the best host ever. RIP
Charlotte is the best miss teen as well.
East coast state
RIP dick we miss u !

How disgusting the outgoing queen. He did not even congratulate his successor.
What????
Miss Pennsylvania is as beautiful as Vanessa Williams!
Loved her in the movie Jawbreaker
