And lastly, this is the only year to have a two black queens in succession with Trinidad and Tobago crowning Botswana.
After Miss USA's 1969 farewell speech at Miss USA in 1970, MUO started recording the outgoing queen's message. Only at MU 1977, when MU 1976 gave her speech live, was that changed.

I agree to this 1000000%! This is why the pageant is struggling so much because they look at sash factor instead of women who are deserving and can make a difference. I can guarantee that a number of qualified contestants are tossed out to make space for counties who have large supporters, or won the crown multiple times.
I wish I was born earlier as a female, and eligible enough to be a contestant in Miss Universe 1998-1999. Idk why, the music is very elegant and very party-like at the same time.
