As a kid it didn't seem so tough to win at Michigan. Ohio State won there in 75, 79 and 81. It was in Columbus where I had to wait ✋️ until 82 to see Ohio State score a TD against Michigan let alone win. 😂😅
1975 ohio state football team was a great ohio state football team,& rich leach was a starting freshman quarterback for michigan , rich leach was a great option quarterback his freshman year but that it
RIP Coach Earle Bruce and Coach Bo Schembechler. They had tremendous respect for one another. I think they might have coached one season together at Ohio State in the late 1960s. When the morally depraved president of OSU (won’t even mention his name you can look it up) fired Coach Bruce with specious and trumped up charges the week before the OSU vs. UM game in Ann Arbor, the OSU AD resigned in protest and the team was galvanized to win one for their Coach. And that’s just what happened. When he was asked for his reaction to the upset loss, Coach Schembechler said, “I normally don’t like losing to Ohio State, but today I will make an exception.” That’s the amount of respect these two coaches had for one another. A tip of the hat to both legends.
The players of today are bigger and stronger for sure. That being said, those guys were still tough as nails. Just like the NFL players of the 50's and 60's. They were smaller but they were very tough. Those guys did not have the same training methods, and could not afford to do nothing but workout all season. I am guessing things would be different if today's players had to work full time at other jobs in the off season. Things were different in the 70's and much different in the 50's and 60's.
It definitely was different, but something else I noticed was the form tackling. Today, so many defenders are always looking for the "knockout" tackle. This game showed a lot of wrapping of legs and ankles, not lowering your helmet and shoulders just to knock them over. I think this may be why there are so many concussions today. Yes, I realize back then guys took some smelling salts and went back in, but there was definitely more fundamental tackles and less trying to "get the hit of the day" on ESPN.
The linemen were on average 2-3 inches shorter and 50-70 lbs lighter than today. They weren't exactly small men even by todays standards, but the players today are massive. OSU's center was about 6' tall and 217 which was somewhat undersized for that era. He obviously was a tremendous athlete to compete at that size but that would be too small for a D-III lineman today.
It helped a lot. People thought he could recreate the magic especially in 84 with Keith Byars Mike Tomczak, Chris Carter and Chris Speilman. Yet it was another 9-3. Just like the 80 season. Ohio State was ranked No.1 at beginning of 80 and 7 straight 3 loss seasons followed before the disastrous 87 finale for Bruce
michigan going for three straight victories over ohio state 2023, would ohio state rather play texas or georgia, pick rodent poison@@nathaniellathy6559
I wouldn’t exactly call 18 - 15 an “asskicking” , especially when Ohio State’s 2 touchdowns came on fluke plays...one a tipped pass and the other a blocked punt. Michigan won every phase of the game except the score.
@@lloydkline1518 A one point loss is getting buried? Btw, I don't know how the Buckeyes stayed close. USC's roster read like a "who's who of NFL Pro Bowl rosters "of the 1980s. Marcus Allen was the 2nd RB. Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith, Joey Browner, and Jeff Fisher was the secondary. Anthony Munoz, Brad Budde, the OL, etc.. How did that group not win 3 national championships?

Michigan hated playing against Marcus Marek

Bo coached at Ohio State in early 60s when Earle was at Massilon

Today’s football player are decathletes or triathletes at that size.
That’s true, but they were very quick. They did have some Hoss lines back then. I remember Pitt had a jumbo line in the Marino Era.
That is why there are so many injuries during todays
Game. The players are too big!!
Got my vote& college football schedule too long espeiality merge pac ten conference usc,& ucla, washington oregon etc etc
There are still a few defensive linemen 6 foot two or three inches today in college or center 6 foot 3 inches,
Kieth Jackson says "Why not , he's done a helluva job".
How Bo thought Hewlett was a legitimate QB I’ll never know
How much goodwill did that game win him looking back on how mediocre they were through most of the 80s?

Statistically Ohio State was well ahead.
The only phase that matters SMH 🤫
It ok usc football put Ohio state football into local cemetery at the 1980 rosebowl game::

Exactly how is a block punt a "fluke"? Did they accidentally wander in front of the punter?
