I just love Bob Ufer. You got a great game caller and a football history lesson during the broadcast. I also say, how college football has changed over the years. A field goal kicking tee, which is gone today. Field goal soccer kickers who get 57 yards and good and without a tee. Wide open passing and running the ball for touchdowns. Big huge defensive ugly guys you would not want to meet in your home town alley. Damn, I am old guy who was there and watched these games of the 70' , 80' and the 90's, and now into the 21 first century of football. Guess what, Michigan won the big ten twice and now is in the big dance for the national champion ship in 2022. Damn it , Goblue Michigan... Bring on the big ugly 's and lets get ready to RUMBLE, GOBLUJE MICHIGAN !!!!!
You must be from Michigan LOL. I remember watching a lot of these old Michigan fans on ABC. Hearing Ufer for the first time reminded me of the screech of nails on a chalkboard. Here in Pittsburgh the beloved hometown sports broadcaster was Myron Cope, who was about as irritating as Ufer. I always thought Cope should have sued Gilbert Gottfried for stealing his irritating nasal voice. Cope is also responsible for Pittsburghers being sometimes being referred "Yinzers". In actuality, what people say here in Western PA actually sounds much more like "yoons" short for you ones I guess. But they often go along with the yinz thing because they're fans of Cope, who also came up with the terrible towel. That aside, thanks for the videos. I might be from Weatern PA, but I've been a big Wolverine fan since Leach started playing there,
The good old days, when Michigan actually had a good chance of beating OSU every year! I almost forgot what that feels like - Thanks for a great upload.
As someone who was 2 months old when this game happened, I never knew how good Rick Leach was. You have to look at it perspective of where the game was at the time and Bo's "way", which to be fair here, he abandoned it early in the 1st to let Rick sling the rock. Its a shame he opted for the MLB, even though as a kid I was a huge Tigers fan before I started to Bleed Maize and Blue, I just really didnt understand back then. Thank you for uploading this, have seen Leachs play over the years in short replays, but to see how good he was in this game, maybe he did make the right choice...I bet dollars to donuts if hed come along 20 years later hes joining the NFL, but then again, 22 years after he graduated Michigan had a QB who couldnt choose between baseball and football, and that QB was the last Michigan QB to win in Columbus until JJ McCarthy ended the losing streak.
If your ears are new to this type of observation, you are hearing professionalism and homerism at its best. Nothing but enthusiasm! And does it ever paint a Picasso!! Side note: it was once playfully mocked from the late great Leslie Nielson of how many people does it take to cover a sporting event with so called 'pros'. That ribbing is now reality and it is a proven fact that it only takes one very good voice to make it happen with this very broadcast
The reality is that MSU was the best team in the Big Ten in '78 and were co-champs. They didn't go because they were on a ridiculously disproportionate probation. That came about because Woody was sore he lost to MSU in '74. MSU smoked Michigan in Ann Arbor in '78. OSU was fortunate the schedule makers didn't pit them against MSU because their passing game would have romped Woody, which would have been very, very sweet.
i use to turn the volume on the tv off and listen to bobby ufer on radio,he was that good.

Everyone loves Bob Ufer. He could get you cheering for Michigan even if you're not a Michigan fan.

@@fredfred4420Cope wasn't as bad as Ufer. Cope could at least admit when the other team made a good play. Not Ufer.
Away games you had no TV; cable didn't exist. I would listen to Ufer call the games while I did my laundry.

Must be happy now Michigan beat them down two yrs in row.
Good old days / golden days of michigan football
"Woody's a pecker, and the Buckeyes are nuts" as I heard from my old man back in the day!
College football needs more announcers like this! Not the frauds you find on espn!
Precisely. Crying Kirk Herbstreit who apologized for his “white privilege”.
Love❤free tv college football era
1978: One of Bo's greatest squads.
And they still lost to MSU and couldnt beat USC in Bowl Game. Typical Bo.
@jessev5761 Lost to a talented Sparty squad w/a better qb, better offensive playcaller, Gibson & the great fg k.

They play with a rock? Why not use a ball?
oh yea...........3 yards & cloud of dust, classic Bo, "GO BLUE"
i love you Bob Ufer
On what will be the final game of the 10 year war
“I’m art schlichter and I’ve got Michigan covering”
Rick Leach is, I believe, the only Michigan quarterback to beat Ohio State twice in their joint.
You can’t spell “Columbus” without “UM”, after all.
Where did you find the ABC video feed? I’ve been looking for this full broadcast.
Don't remember. I can make a copy for you. Email me at franklpizza@live.com
to tell u the truth, i don't remember.
Did Bob Ufer ever have a color commentator on the broadcast?
Thank you.

I was at the only game that Leach lost to OSU during freshman year.
wonder if art bet on state that day
God bless your cotton pickin maze and blue heart.
Rick Leach vs Art Schlichter - no comparison. Woody's last three seasons were pretty bad, and his QB's ended up as convicted felons who did jail time.
Bo schembachler ateup woody hayes his last three years at ohio state ,
Art schlichter & ohio state football beat michigan few times& went to rosebowl, etc etc art schlichter problems were after ohio state football

Huh?
Art the qb for osu. was probably gambling on Michigan to win these game.
Shazam.
GO BUCKS!!
You’re a Milwaukee Bucks fan?
