Georgia losing the National Title game with a metric f’ton of horrible calls by the officials to allow Bama back into the game only for them to beat Georgia on a Hail Mary in overtime is the “most heartbreaking loss in CFP history”.

I used to work in a 911 center, and we had this game on TV (in my neck of the woods, most holidays are uneventful when it comes to emergency services)...when OSU missed the kick all 4 of us working hooped and hollered and danced around the room like a waltz 😅

41 points on that defense with a 3rd string freshman running back is crazy, in that 4th quarter we were using our 3rd string RB, and we had our starting tight end and top 2 receivers were out.

I thought we were dead to right. But them outa nowhere. Arian Smiths long reception and then AD Mitchell came through in the clutch moment like he always did. But i was still on edge until that missed field goal. That was a game.
Thanks for posting this absolute gem of a game Live it when two heavyweights go for it, evenly matched and it goes backward and forward Sad it was lost on a failed kick although a 50 yarder tough
WE had 2 14 pt. leads in the game, and lost them. With 48 seconds left in the game and the ball on the 38 yd. line, WE couldn't advance the ball. Every Buckeye fan knew Ruggles's distance was 48 yds. He missed the second kick. At 12:01 NYD, I posted one comment: "Fire Ryan Day!!" I haven't changed my mind in the three years since. Day has been christened "John Cooper, Jr." because he can't win the "BIG" game against TTUN or a CFP game. He always gets "outcoached."
The excitement of a tight game in the first half. They sinking feeling almost like a weight in your chest by the end of the 3rd quarter. The fleeting feelings of hope when we got the fg in the 4th. The catch by Arian Smith was sort of like a jolt. Maybe we can win. Then the td to tie the game left the viewer surging with feelings of hope and anticipation for the next drive. Then the groans as Stroud runs into fg range. Finally, the prayers and tensing up as the kicker was set to make the game winning fg. After the kick was delivered nothing tops the overflowing feeling of joy and excitement and elation that followed. My family ran outside not too long after and yelled go dawgs at the top of our lungs. We could’ve ran around the world and still had energy to spare! As a Dawgs fan, all the respect in the world to this Ohio State team. CJ Stroud was unfreaking believable in this one. This game was a true heart attack special and an instant classic. Sorry yall had to lose this one Ohio State. I know it hurts.
The Greatest Game in the History of the College Football Playoff. Whoever won this game was going to win the National Championship especially considering that TCU had just beaten Michigan in another crazy game. This game had all the drama you could have especially in the 4th Quarter. Whether it was that massive comeback by Georgia to take the lead, or CJ Stroud dragging Ohio State kicking and screaming towards a potential game winning field goal, it never lacked any dull moments. The reason why I think this is the Greatest CFP Game Ever was because of how it ended and the timing of it. Think about this, a do or die field goal attempt, to win the game, and advance to the National Championship Game against TCU, and not to mention this happened at midnight on New Year's Eve. What happens? HE MISSED IT BADLY! "And Georgia, is gonna survive!"
I remember watching this game on a cruise in the middle of the Carribean seas. Most watching the game with us were Buckeyes fans and after the last kick sail left as the clock struck midnight, we were the only few people screaming our lungs out. The rest hung their head and left in silence. Never forget those moments. I knew that was our Championship. TCU was not in our league. The rest is history.

Georgia had one of the best kickers in the nation, Jack Podlesny, and he missed two makable field goals in that game, so if neither side misses a field goal, Georgia still wins.

Nah this loss is all on the coaching staff your in the fringe of field goal range and try 3 deep shots instead of trying to get maybe 5-10 more or so yards to make it easier on the kicker pisspoor decision making cost Ohio this game
If I was an osu fan, I couldn't watch it w/o the opera music. But there were so many Clutch calls in this game, nobody should be ashamed! CJ deserved to win, but Bowers 4th down Superman play, and Kirby's Time Out on OSU's direct snap were critical! Podleski's Two missed field goals, had me expecting an L, but Stetson delivered in the Clutch to make up for it. At the stroke of midnight... Best. Game. EVER!!! GO DAWGS!!!
As an old man who first started watching UGA football back in 1984 as kid what i can tell you is that there have been many teams over the past 40 yrs who were 100% convinced they were going to win and who played their hearts out and left it all on the field and on paper every thing said they should have won, but when the clock stopped ticking they just didnt have enough points on the board and couldnt understand why. The Gawja Bull-Dawgs are like a pitbull. they are low to the ground, they play smashmouth ground and pound, football and they never stop coming at you. when they say " It aint the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog" they are talking about The UGA Bulldogs. Them Dogs Iz Hell. many teams have learned that lesson the hard way. and what they all have in common is that they all thought they had won the game but the scoreboard said otherwise.

That kick still gives me nightmares. I will never forget the moment leading up to it. I had a coworker(Alabama Fan) over to watch the game and when stroud threw the ball away I was happy and jumping up and down and he said "man I would hate to settle for a kick here" I looked at him and said "bro Ruggles is automatic"........10 seconds later I was almost in tears. This game hurt. Bad. Will never forget this game.
Roll.
As a texans fan this worked out perfectly for us
How? He was probably the 2nd pick before the game. I guess he didnt have to play another game where he could have gotten injured?
@@matthewdavison6735 Actually, Carolina wanted him. And I mean the whole coaching staff, the owner overrid the pick because of the low cognition test score. That's why the coach got fired mid season. He literally confronted the owner about his decision to draft Young over CJ after seeing what CJ was doing in Houston. Owner got pissed and fired everyone.
@@spibuckeyefan1I mean that makes sense. I thought even prior to this game he was more nfl ready than Young. Definitely ended up in a better situation
@@matthewdavison6735 Absolutely 💯
@@matthewdavison6735 I feel like he would've won the championship if he beat Georgia and all the hype would've forced carolina to draft him
Man, this isn’t even the most heartbreaking loss in this stadium. The 2017 NC was gutting.
Exactly.
Leave it up to Georgia to bring us classic games. Midnight miracle. The overtime rose bowl. The overtime natty vs bama. They always rise to the occasion and stay in the game and make it special. Truly crazy.
And recently the first ever overtime sec championship against Texas
This aged like fine wine
Georgia losing the National Title game with a metric f’ton of horrible calls by the officials to allow Bama back into the game only for them to beat Georgia on a Hail Mary in overtime is the “most heartbreaking loss in CFP history”.
As an Ohio state fan it was
Womp womp
Wasn't the first time the officials screwed Georgia over against Bama. They did it again last year by calling a catch.....that wasn't! Allowed Bama to get back in the game and win it. Barely. I'm just glad asshole Saban is now gone. Good bye, and good riddance.
Sorry for all the criticism Stetson. Sure miss that offense. And a qb who brought that energy. No lambo. No NIL. Just heart and soul.
as a uga fan, I feel so bad for CJ stroud. He wanted it more than anyone.
14:20. Bowers slide outta bounds is pure beauty!
It was one of those games that you can enjoy Ohio State and Georgia Left it all on the field but I'm glad to see that Georgia pulled out the win way to go dawgs 👌👍💯💪🎉
Seeing Devin Willock walk through the tunnel is heart breaking
CJ Stroud balled out. He was so good. What a great game!!!
dawgs fan, THIS was the national championship of that season. absolutely INSANE game
i remember being on a plane when this happened, and all i remember hearing was, "OHIO STATE LOST! OHIO STATE LOST!" like it was 9/11 all over again
Au contraire, Georgia WON!!!
I was not watching the game but I was listening to the game. I was on an airplane headed to Europe that next morning. I was in Europe that next week. One of the VPs in my company played for Vince Dooley back in the 1960s. I am not sure if he even got any playing time. He passed several years before this win. Your airplane comment reminded me of him and my thoughts of him smiling in his final resting place.
@@THE-michaelmyers this is the genuine best comment ive ever gotten.
Soooo glad them Dawgs were on the other end of one of those for once.
I used to work in a 911 center, and we had this game on TV (in my neck of the woods, most holidays are uneventful when it comes to emergency services)...when OSU missed the kick all 4 of us working hooped and hollered and danced around the room like a waltz 😅
I am a die hard Dawg fan and this is one of my favorite games of all time. Both teams played like hell.
As a GA fan, I knew this would’ve been the toughest game for us, I remember my people talking bout some “Georgia getting absolutely shit on, Georgia don’t stand a chance, Georgia can’t hang, sucks to be a Georgia fan.” and look at us… This was the best game in the last decade in my opinion. GO DAWGS!!!!!!
That feeling the next morning as a Michigan fan knowing your team lost but Ohio State did too so it evens the heartbreak out a bit…😂
Y’all lost to TCU and we led Georgia the whole game and lost by one point. Should’ve never came down to that kick. See you in the Shoe this November.
@@jordanupdegrove7879 Hah we won a natty this year and you didn’t… can’t wait to watch crying ryan choke to Michigan again
41 points on that defense with a 3rd string freshman running back is crazy, in that 4th quarter we were using our 3rd string RB, and we had our starting tight end and top 2 receivers were out.
15:50 looking back, even though he was wide open, I am still so surprised he caught that ball. Since this game, he has dropped like 30+ passes in the next 2 years.
Epic! Excited for deja vu coming up!
This loss put a smile on my face
I thought we were dead to right. But them outa nowhere. Arian Smiths long reception and then AD Mitchell came through in the clutch moment like he always did. But i was still on edge until that missed field goal. That was a game.
Thanks for posting this absolute gem of a game
Live it when two heavyweights go for it, evenly matched and it goes backward and forward
Sad it was lost on a failed kick although a 50 yarder tough
I’ll tell ya. I love my dawgs but I hated that one team had to lose this game. Hell of an effort by stroud and co.
The same music with the one when Georgia beat Oklahoma it does make the game better though
The heart of a champion
As an Ohio State fan, this is heartbreaking. 😢
One of the best games i’ve ever watched. Topped the Rose Bowl. The ending was just poetic.
If your a Georgia fan and watched the game you know what I’m talking about
Javon Bullard is the MVP! It’s all about physicality!
A lot of teams miss FGs. Ga lost to Bama on the last play one year and was stopped at the 5 another year. Also, Ga's loss to Auburn on a tipped ball and Bama's loss to Auburn on the punt return were much worse than this game.
These highlights just dont get old
5-30-2024. Pass too much. I want to see some long runs.
11:11 the play design here, and the execution was just flawless.
Not to mention the egregious block in the back by #79 that went uncalled

I was there .... crouched down behind my dad, i could hardly bare to watch...as the final kick sailed wide left ... as the clock struck midnight on a new year. Insanity!!! Overcame two 14 ot deficits for a trip to the Natty. Top 3 game in Georgia history

Great win for our DAWGS
Yeah it was but we coming back for ya. This was the national championship game. Great game.

That kickers meter was going so fast 😂
I was at this game! It was a hell of a game. I remember the up and down emotions during it. It was a tough loss in the end for OSU, but in my mind there were no losers!!! I told several OSU fans at the game that also! It was the national title game for me!!! Go DAWGS!!!!
I remember being at a little get-together with some buddies of mine for this game. We cracked open a case of some cold beer and ordered wings for this game. It was a time I will never forget.
The HOLDING on every play by Ohio State was incredible. Unbelivable. Shocking.
Stroud was very good, but really had 6 zebras helping all night.
As an osu fan this is the most depressing loss I’ve ever seen, Georgia was so good and we had them on the ropes
as a lifelong uga fan, i began playing “when you believe” (there can be miracles) from the prince of egypt. it worked!
Buckeye fan here. We drunkenly grabbed a football and immediately headed to the nearest football field to see if we could make a 50 yard kick. We all also missed my a country mile but were at the same time 10-20 yards short.
😂😂😂
Listen man I'm a life long Georgia fan and even I feel bad about this, like granted it coming down to a kick proves that the teams were equal and neither really "Deserved" to win more than the other, but man, that's gotta hurt
What’s the name of this theme song it’s so damn epic
Guardians at the gate
"And Georgia, is gonna survive!"
heartbreaking loss? GA didn't lose, so there is no way it COULD be heartbreaking. This was one of the best WINS in the CFP. OSU tears notwithstanding.
Question, did anybody get the license number of that truck that took out Marvin Harrison Jr?
As a dawgs fan, this is the only game I accept that we lost in the last 3 years.
The Bama screw job that happened this year doesnt deserve mentioning.
As a dawgs fan, this is the stupidest comment I’ve ever seen another dawg make. We won the game, wtf are you talking about. Who cares we won on a missed FG, we had missed 2 earlier in the game. This game was a battle of two titans playing at a high level. The 2024 Bama game was a fun comeback but we deserved to lose the way we played in the 1st half.
I have NEVER rooted for a team not named Michigan than I did this night!!

Still can’t believe we lost this game but damn was it hell of a game
