Nice job as usual! Especially on the Presence and lowend comments. On the original amps I actually used the wrong taper pots for Presence so it didn’t do anything til about 1:00, but EVH had fixed that in the popular 5150 III 50w amps, so we stuck with the new way that’s spread over the knob for more precise dialing. Another often overlooked point is that Ed didn’t use Vintage 30’s….all 3 speakers we use (EVH, G12H Anniversary and the new Iconic speaker) are more Greenback-ish and much less in-your-face than a Vintage 30, and with those darker sounding speakers you need a little more presence. Thanks again!
Holly Cow !!! This Amp sounds terrific in the right hands. After hearing that intro i’m like GOD DAMN , NOW I’LL LISTEN TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO TELL US ! This is hands down the best demo I’ve heard of this Amp and you can back it up with your playing ! Well done Mate 🤘🤘🇦🇺🔥👍
Much lower gain player here, but I have always combined some gain from overdrive pedals along with the natural gain of the amplifier. Great trick! Tubescreamer pedals can sound strange in a totally clean amplifier.
My pleasure. Thanks for commenting. I remember the first video that was released about this amp. It sounded so shrill and thin. They should've dialed it in better.
A lot of people can't differentiate when a certain piece of gear sounds bad, vs when a user is just butchering it. You gave really good insight here. Not just for this amp or for specific settings; but good advice that will let you get awesome tones no matter what gear you have. Obviously, some people take things literally and now use 11oclock for Presence religiously and then complain when a piece of gear sounds worse for then... but no. It's a ballpark number. Depends on your pickups, your guitar, your speakers, etc.
All you said in this video is gold ! I love your channel! Thats exactly how I dial my Iconic. I will try to add some gain on my overdrive on the first channel !
Do you also engage the overdrive on Ch1 along with pinning the gain dial? Im using the heavy menace pedal for my distortion which is nasty but this video made it nastier.
New to your videos but since I own this amp, cab, and now a helix I’m glad I found you. I’m seeing a pattern - whenever you start with “for God’s sake…” we’re in for some great info (and funny shit)
Haha Thanks for commenting. I'm so glad you found my channel and are enjoying the videos. Hopefully you can catch us in a livestream sometime. We go live every Sunday night at 7 PM.
Great info, as always. Very helpful to anyone who owns this amp. I think you have it dialed-in really good. The "Raiders of the Lost Ark" facemelt scene made me laugh! 😆
Awesome stuff as always man. You said it. Every amp is different. Expecting to get a good tone from any amp using the same settings is crazy. Haha. That Iconic sounds killer! Gonna buy one once things settle down here and I can figure out a cab/loadbox situation. Maybe someone should develop a 5150 Iconic sim. I'd pay for that lol Cheers
Seems I remember some schmuck (yes, I used the word schmuck. 😂) on RUclips saying “The Iconic can’t chug. It’s only for old school rock”. Umm….yeah. Okay. Seems you just put that to rest! Awesome tone and killer playing!
Whoever said that it can't chug is a moron. That amp chugs even on the Green channel with the Gain below noon (unless you have really cold pickups... then just add some gain and it will still chug on the green).
Jarrod, you mentioned something interesting about amplifiers cutting through in a mix in an earlier live feed. People always talking about how they can’t transfer their favorite “bedroom” tone to the stage because it gets lost. But you made the comment that stage tone is not the responsibility of the player, it’s the responsibility of the mixing foh engineer. Is this true in your opinion 100% of the time?
Fantastic playing dude! That amp sounds pretty good. I wonder why they chose to put the tubes in the power section instead of the pre. I thought most of the tone comes from the preamp with these type of amps, no?
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate the kind words as well. There's actually 2 pre amp tubes in this amplifier. Usually there's 4 but they just put 2 in this 1. It still sounds really good though
I just picked up the 2x12 combo and man, it sounds badass! Got a question, probably obvious, but is the noise gate supposed to work? Even dimed, im barely hearing it do anything. The amp is quiet when my guitar's volume is off. I was expecting it to work like a traditional noise gate, unless its a high end hiss roll off??
Good question. I've not heard very good things about the iconic cab. Most people say it sounds really thin. The Mesa 4 by 12 and 2 by 12 cabs are so good. Very thick, punchy and full. I would probably stick with something like that... it's a safe bet.

Thanks for commenting and sharing your insights James! Always a pleasure hearing from you.
You the man
@@damonstewart70 thx✌️
I got this amp and it has a killer sound I love my new 5150. Thanks James Brown

Thank you. I know SRV used a TS on his amps. He found a great balance with it
Jarrod, thank you for making this!
Tip #4 is great, this video showcases the Iconic well.

As always, you can seem to squeeze the best out of any amp! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
P.S. That intro solo was dope
Thank you. That's my favorite song to play.

Thank you!! Great minds think alike right?

Super helpful. I use the heavy menace pedal through the 80w iconic

Killer playing man, holy hell! I gotta get on your level
Thank you!!!

The "Raiders of the Lost Ark" facemelt scene made me laugh! 😆
Dude that was some fantastic playing my Friend! Wow! Tones are great too! Awesome video!
Thank you! Made my day. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Jarrod knows how to make amps sound great
Very Nice Playing as always Jarrod. That amp sounds really good, going to have to add one to the collection here soon.
Thank you. Hopefully I can do the MT15 and Iconic shootout soon

That dude is a narcissist clown.

Good question. I'm going to make a video about this very topic soon
This video is extremely helpful!!!
Awesome! Glad you liked it
Boosts and overdrives make the chugs chuggier

Man I am impressed with that iconic . What a bargain this amp is
It really is a great amp for the price
I would love to see video like on the peavey 5150 script/block
Pissing the amp off lmao ....love it
Also on CH1 did you engage the overdrive button as well as pin the gain? Thx
Yes I did
How about the mid and high on CH 1
I just picked up the 2x12 combo and man, it sounds badass! Got a question, probably obvious, but is the noise gate supposed to work? Even dimed, im barely hearing it do anything. Congratulations, I'm glad you like it
Honestly, I found the noise gate to be just okay
I would still get a 4 cable method noise gate like the Revv G8
@TONEWARSgearshow thank you, will do!!
your thoughts on adding a 10 band eq in the fx loop
Good question. I'm gonna do some videos on that soon
I highly recommend doing that with ALL amps. It gives you more control over the tone/sound.
I’m running the 5150 through an RG 4x12. What are your thoughts? I like it a lot but I’m not sure if I should get the 5150 cab.
Good question. I've not heard very good things about the iconic cab. Most people say it sounds really thin. The Mesa 4 by 12 and 2 by 12 cabs are so good. Very thick, punchy and full.
I would probably stick with something like that... it's a safe bet.
What was that pedal you were using for the intro
Most likely it's the mud killer. I boost most of my amps with that
You also know the eq setting you had for the evh iconic in this video specifically the intro
On the Iconic are the 6l6 power tubes plug and play or do you have to re bias if changed/replaced?
Good question... I wish I knew the answer
