I got a 2021 anniversary edition. In the first year I have driven from Ohio to Arizona and then from Ohio to Maine and crossed into Canada. What a car! I'm a camper and can run the car in ready mode all night to stay warm or cool. Perfect car for camping. I can lay straight out in the back and there are people 6ft tall that can lay in the back.

He just said he drives it as aggressively as possible and has a huge amount of cargo, of course the mpg is going to be terrible. He even said he only drives it in the sport mode. I've seen a ton of people get 60 + 70 + mi to the gallon on the 4th gen ones, even if it's off by a whole five miles to the gallon.
I’ve always wanted to speak to a Toyota engineer about this. I keep a log of my real mpg (check the miles I got between each fill up, divide by the amount of gas I put in) and I never get what the computer says. I have a 4th gen 2019 eco. When the dash says over 55, it’s usually only about 2-3 mpg lower in reality. But when the dash says sub 50, it’s usually about 5 mpg off. I wonder what data the computer takes into account to calculate the dash mpg.
That’s not the true mpg. He drives it in sports mode. That’s like flooring it all the time. The car has a NORMAL mode and ECO. In eco it gets you way better mpg. Also he has that stupid thing on the ceiling that makes it less aerodynamic

I currently have a Prius c and it’s not an efficient as the normal Prius even though it’s small. Enjoy

I have a 2012 prius. I bought it in February 2017 . It was as good as new back than. The car drove 205.000 kilometer now. I never had any issues. Just the yearly maintenance like oil and filters. My consumption is 4,2L on 100 km. It is our only family car. After 5 and a half year i’m still happy with it but i do think about 100% electric slowly…
I do like your dashboard lights better. Mine digital dash is till that old school 90s green.. i don’t know why they still used that in 2012. Because full color led dashboard was already exist. That’s the only thing I don’t like. The oldschool dashboard. And that you can’t debadge it on the back to make it look cleaner. Normally the name badges are sticky letters but the prius are added with pins. So of you take them off you see holes…
2017 Prius 3 touring....103K...had major tuneup and shocks replaced....restored the ride...excellent car. Had a 2015 2 prior...the 4th gen is much better. Thanks.
The best you can do is the shield but that only makes it a little harder for the thieves. My mom has a 3 gen Prius with a shield. She went inside cvs for 15 minutes and they tried to still it. The shield stopped them from getting it but they caused over $1900 of damage. This is in California . I don’t know what else citizens are supposed to do as the police are doing anything.
Uber driver here with 2021 Prius eco with 101000 miles getting 60.9mpg driving in ECO mode pretty much always except when going uphill I switch to Normal mode
I’m glad to hear you get 60.9 And honestly I drive aggressively and always drive in power mode. I always have the air conditioning on. I glued that explains it but I find it hard to drive the Prius in eco mode and just end up pressing the gas pedal even further.
Thanks for sharing your experience about your 2016 Prius. Don't forget to change the transmission fluid at 100k. I did the brakes at 121k miles and they were still at 70%. Your 12 volt battery is original?
I have owned 4 Priuses from Gen1 thru Gen4. They have all been Great Cars. The newest one is a 2018 it has 39,254 miles on it. Here is the way you get Fantastic Gas Milage out of these Cars. LEAVE THEM IN ECO MODE!!!!!!! Right now over this Milage I am getting 67.2 miles per gallon. This Car is driven at highway speeds and town speeds everyday. As an example I owned a 2008 Prius and when I traded it in it had 197,762 miles on it. Repairs consisted of a Water Pump. Left Front Hub Assembly and Replacement of some Cruise Control Components. The Hydrid Battery checked out at over 99% of it's Rated Capacity. I changed out the 12 Volt Battery once during the 8 years that I owned this Car. The only reason I traded it was because the Toyota Dealer made me an Outstanding Deal on a new 2016. Unfortunately the 2016 was only 2yrs old when a Deer went thru the Front Windshield on Thanksgiving Day at Midnight on the interstate which totaled out the Car. Things like that happen here in Wisconsin. I am just an Average Driver with no special driving skills and I have never had any Serious Problems with any of these Cars that I have owned.
I have not but this was a bigger issue on the earlier models. If I had a dog or concern like that I would pay more attention to it but I keep it pretty clean and have had no issues on the 4th.
Power mode really does eat into the MGP. I get 40 mpg in power mode. Eco mode, 57.3. I cannot really notice that much difference with power mode...except the mpg drops.
You're driving that thing like a race car to get that mpg, I'm easily getting over 70mpg and most of the time over 80mpg in my 2017 non prime prius however i always drive in eco mode and hardly ever use the heater or ac mainly cause i live in Washington state and frankly not needed often
Thanks, thank you very much for this interview. Important input greatly appreciate it. I'm looking at purchasing a prius now.I know which generation to buy. I know Toyota is reliable, but the prius will be even more reliable for me. I get right now, 12 to 13 miles to the gallon driving a Dodge pro. Master van. so thanks again.
The Prius is a great car, you will enjoy it. Just be sure to check the mileage details as lots of people change the odometer and falsify the true miles driven.
Lol I have a '16 2 w/93k. Normal mode gets me the best gas efficiency and I drive/take off from a stop aggressively/brake aggressively with the air cold. ~51 to 57 mpg all day long. Simple maintenance like filters and oil changes. Best car I've ever owned and I've had trucks from '64 trucks to 2019 vans. By far the best cheapest car I've ever owned.
I've owned my 2016 since new. I had exactly every issue you had haha. Except the tires. I have bridgestone tires, getting 59mpg. Tow and cargo rack will definitely take mine to next level. Mine is also grey. Thanks for video
59 miles per gallon is not insane, it is pretty much the minimum if you don't drive it like a jack ass. I don't understand people lying because they drive aggressively which you admitted to.
The only thing I hate about my 2016 Prius is that the clear coating from the black glossy part on the C pillar started peeling after 2.5 years. Also, don't forget to change your traction battery filter.
@@RANDOMFIX the filter is on the bottom of the backseat on the passenger side. Remove the expansion pin and then carefully pry the top right of the panel open. The filter will be attached to the panel, and you’ll also have access to the fan.
@@arocked1 I wish I took it in before the paint warranty expired, but at that time, it was just the edges with tiny peels. And then, as soon as the warranty expired, huge pieces came off. Idk, maybe I’m driving too fast?! 🤷🏽♂️😂😆 I’m thinking of wrapping it also since it makes the car look low quality.
I have replaced the 12V battery three times in the last four years! The last two batteries did not make it though an entire year!!! However, most batteries have only lasted me two years since I moved to Vegas, so only lasting one year is only fifty percent worse than average/normal here.
Dude! You didn't include any of your referenced videos! I was going to click on them after this video but now I'll have to look for them when I get a chance but only if I remember!
I think most of the Prius can with a nickle battery. I have not heard of any complaints about the 4th gen batteries. The plug in models may be equipped with a lithium battery.
Great video! Roof rack and bra probably cost you 5mpg. I had a 2010 Prius now I have hybrid 2020 rav4 (46 mpg) that I think is better on the American roads.
My 2020 Prius XLE AWD does not come with adjustable rear wheels upper control arms. So the rear wheel cambers cannot be adjusted during an alignment. I just ebayed a pair of adjustable rear wheel camber upper control arms for $180 and am about to pay $650 to have Rogers Toyota of Lewiston, ID to install them for me plus a free alignment. Also, my Prius does not come with a spare tire. I bought a spare storing in the trunk. I will ask Rogers Toyota to see if the foam beneath the trunk is removed, can a spare fit in the space.
Wow, that’s disappointing, I was planning on picking up a 2023 soon but when I hear of situations like this I might reconsider. I am so with you on the spare tire issue. I will not buy a car if it doesn’t have a spare. It’s like they are more considered about 1 mph vs the understanding that roadside assistance is not always available and who wants to wait on the side of road for a tow truck. My 2016 had a blowout at 20k miles. I hate the eco green tires as the quality is junk and are a road hazard. Good luck with your installation.
No sure about the Ford Escape but I would search Craigslist on sac. Also try offer up and let it go ( they are apps that people advertise on in the Sacramento area)
My 2013 Prius base model has 156,000, other than the 12V battery, spark plugs and front break pads plus changing out ALL the fluids my car does not need anything else in my opinion this Toyota is the best engineered car in the world with the best quality parts with the longest parts use without failure.
Hey brother, appreciate the video! I have a question in regards to maintenance. I have the same vehicle at about 35,000miles. I contacted the dealer and they said I needed all this done: Oil change and tire rotation (unless tires are needed) Brake flush - 150.00$ Fuel induction service - 160.00$ Cabin filter - 42.50$ Engine air filter - 42.50$ By time because it’s a 2016 you are due for: Engine Coolant flush: 160.00$ Inverter coolant flush: 160.00$ .. man I am clueless when it comes to cars. What would you recommend I get done at this stage? I assumed it was just oil change and a tire rotation. Anyone who knows let me know please 🙏
Your miles are very low, I would just change the air filter and cabin air filter myself for under $10, rotate the tires now at the shop or do it yourself, see the video links. and at 60k or 100k miles change the transmission fluid. At 150k miles I would do the inverter fluid. Do the brake fluid when you replace the front pads and rotors at 75k to 150k miles. Air filter video ruclips.net/video/HDu3cM0telQ/видео.html Cabin air filter ruclips.net/video/HBxbcgFt-0o/видео.html Tire rotation ruclips.net/video/Vfl-2a6ASSs/видео.html Prius front brakes ruclips.net/video/iMaMllltY2M/видео.html Brake fluid flush ruclips.net/video/UfUZoRrDpTw/видео.html Good luck with everything and enjoy
For the coolant flush I would wait until 10 to 150k miles and replace the coolant thermostat at the same time. As for the fuel treat I would ask what they are going to do. If they are going to replace any fuel filters ( I think the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank ) I would do it now however if they are just going add some fuel treatment into gas I would buy the big bottle of Techron from chevron or a auto parts store instead for under $20.

I’m in the market for a Prius I’m about to pull the trigger on a 2016 Prius 4 with 51,000 miles for $25,000 I know there’s a inventory shortage what are you guys think about the price and mileage
So you didn't examine the filter for the hybrid battery cooling fan. That's a risk I wouldn't want to take particularly in warm weather. Inefficient cooling will reduce the life of a very expensive battery.
I’ve had the brake clicking noise for the 1.5 years I’ve had my 2016. You mentioned that it’s loosening hardware but didn’t say whether it’s a problem or not. I’ve had it checked out by several different mechanics and no one has mentioned any loose hardware. I assumed it was just a normal noise created by the regenerative brakes. Do you know if it’s an issue I need to get addressed?
My 2016 Prius also developed a ticking sound while stopping. There’s a service bulletin addressing a right CV/drive shaft replacement. The ticking sound went away after they changed out the drive shaft about a year ago. Occasionally I will hear a ticking sound again so I’m wondering if the other side is now acting up?!? I printed out the TSB and gave it to my Toyota dealership. Here is the TSB: T-SB-0157-18
Also. The shaft replacement threw off my alignment and dealership didn’t believe me that the repair caused a misalignment. They said the TSB didn’t require an alignment and they not were going to cover the cost of realigning the car. After being persistent they finally gave in. Right now, my car only has 29,600 miles. I forgot what my mileage was when they replaced it about a year ago.
Good luck with your search. Please buy a cheap scan tool that can read the odometer of the computer and not what is displayed on the instrument cluster as lots of people have changed the cluster and you can get scammed. Let me know if you need help.
I am looking to purchase a 2016 Prius from Carmax that has about 28000 miles on it. Would you recommend purchasing an "extended service" plan (extended warranty) on this vehicle? Not sure if it is worth the investment
I had been driving a 2004 since 2012. Only sold it to my daughter to get her out of her $!#Beetle and me into a 2016 which I picked up yesterday. Nice upgrades but I miss my tool tray above the spare! Also, am I missing something or did they get rid of the proximity sensor that lets you open the trunk?! Looking for pro-tip on the best looking/fitting seat covers?
If the car is new Oil changes oil changes and even more oil changes 5000miles/6 months whatever comes FIRST and then the battery Fan filter and it will drive forever
As far as price and miles it sounds a little high but I don’t know what region of the usa you are in? How is the condition of the vehicle, tires, anything extra like a roof rack or box? All of those little options and factors can make a big difference.
ive had prius cars since 04 , now i have a 4th gen with original tires dunlop enasave made in japan/ride real nice/good mpg/even wear- ive never heard of factory tires blowing out for a tire defect reason on a prius- if they blow out its cause over inflated or under most the time or some kinda road hazard damage- driver neglect- Not cause there cheap- If u rotate criss cross front to back properly- so tire is opposte side spinning diffrent direction every 3-5 k- Yes michelins are the best longest lasting smooth ride tires provided u take care of them which most do, cause there so expensive- im also michelin man ha ha- i think ur crazy if u buy econo cheap tires & think ur saving money PEACE MR
The 3rd gen 2010 Prius I purchased and the 4th gen 2016 had this issue with the eco tires. I think they are sacrificing longevity for mpg and safety. Yes, Michelins are expensive but they last almost 90k miles.
@@RANDOMFIX Ok what exact issue besides longevity from the eco tire?? Ive never heard of them blowing out on any of there tires from factory- unless of course they were under /over inflated or abused somehow or normal road hazards Thats what im asking thanks mr :)
@No2ndHandInfo that’s a good question. I wish I could nail the answer. Under inflation is was not any issue as the tpms system prevents that from going unnoticed. I took the vehicle to Toyota during this time as well because of the included 2 year 25k miles maintenance. Maybe they never rotated the tires?
i believe i said or maybe not the tire air monitor on prius does not go off unless its substantial, I believe more than 5- 10 psi off . You cant go by those unless its one that gives exact preasure- im surprised toyota doesnt have exact reading one- I do mine manual especially seeing i live in vary range temps- low or high preasure causes problems from minimal to very dangerous- critical

I had to second-generation Prius is in the combination meters failed around a hundred and ten thousand miles does this have the same issue and I hear the third generation has a timing leak
Only by two mpg but the Prius is so fuel efficient I can live with that and I don’t try to hyper mile just to get a few mph better. I always drive in power mode and many views are stunned when I show my mpg, as I have normally get between 44 and 46z Some of reported 60 plus mph .
You're misinformed. That's not the true MPG of the vehicle. That's the MPG when you always ride it in PWR mode and drive it hard. I've driven mine for 6,000 miles so far in ECO and the average, not based on the trip computer but my own fill up recording and calculation is about 55MPG. PWR mode is going to cause the engine to be aggressively turned on most of the time, so you lose huge fuel savings when rolling from a dead stop, which is where a lot of fuel is used to break the activation energy and gain momentum on the car.
This is my mpg and I like driving in power mode. This is no bad info just my experience. And I thank you for sharing your experiencing as well. I agree I should drive in the eco mode but then I start hating the car. I got a lead foot.

@@RANDOMFIX do you know if you can change the color of the dashboard light instruments? Is that posible?

Excellent useful video. Just watched this video in 07/2024 from the UK , thank you
Glad to help and thank you for the great feedback from the 🇬🇧 uk
Great videos,Peter from NYC,what do you recommend anti theft of catalytic converter, mods.
Very informative and straight forward, I really like it. I couldn’t find all the videos you mentioned yet.
Never mind, I found it.

Uber driver here with 2021 Prius eco with 101000 miles getting 60.9mpg driving in ECO mode pretty much always except when going uphill I switch to Normal mode
I’m glad to hear you get 60.9
And honestly I drive aggressively and always drive in power mode. I always have the air conditioning on.
I glued that explains it but I find it hard to drive the Prius in eco mode and just end up pressing the gas pedal even further.
I bought a 2016 Prius new off the lot. It has about 60k now and it never gives me any problems.
Thanks for sharing your experience about your 2016 Prius. Don't forget to change the transmission fluid at 100k. I did the brakes at 121k miles and they were still at 70%. Your 12 volt battery is original?
@@RANDOMFIXhi, yes new 12 volt battery. Thanks I'll make sure I have it done.
Hello, BIG THANX from Europe! Informative Video! As Prius 2 owner i have focus on preowned Prius 4, Prius ..... worlds BEST Hybrid Car! Greets
Greeting my friend, I'm glad you found the video helpful.
I appreciate your constructive comments, thank you Billy for the feedback!
People talk about the fan filter. Do you have to clean it?
I have not but this was a bigger issue on the earlier models. If I had a dog or concern like that I would pay more attention to it but I keep it pretty clean and have had no issues on the 4th.
2016 Prius Eco...bought new. Zero problems. None.. Nada. 86,000 miles. lifetime average 57.3 mpg...and that is REAL.
Yes Mark I agree I drive the Prius a lot harder than needed and thank you for sharing your mpg. 70 to 80 mpg is very impressive.
Thank you for the great feedback and I hope you find a good 4th gen Prius.
Very helpful. I'm looking to buy a 2016 now in 2022
The Prius is a great car, you will enjoy it. Just be sure to check the mileage details as lots of people change the odometer and falsify the true miles driven.
I like the dashboard cover👍👍my neighbor has the first generation Primus and its cool, seeing it move around all quiet
Thank you, wow, your neighbor still has the 1st generation prius. That is impressive.
Awesome, the Prius is solid like you mentioned, 59 mpg is insane.
59 miles per gallon is not insane, it is pretty much the minimum if you don't drive it like a jack ass. I don't understand people lying because they drive aggressively which you admitted to.
Nice well explained video good shot
Thank you so much for the great feedback
Good stuff!
Thank you for the Feedback.
The only thing I hate about my 2016 Prius is that the clear coating from the black glossy part on the C pillar started peeling after 2.5 years.
Also, don't forget to change your traction battery filter.
How funny you mentioned the black glossy part as my drivers side is peeling now too. I will look into the traction air filter. Thank you
@@RANDOMFIX the filter is on the bottom of the backseat on the passenger side. Remove the expansion pin and then carefully pry the top right of the panel open. The filter will be attached to the panel, and you’ll also have access to the fan.
Mine is peeling off as well😂I’m gonna try n tint it🤷🏻♂️
@@arocked1 I wish I took it in before the paint warranty expired, but at that time, it was just the edges with tiny peels. And then, as soon as the warranty expired, huge pieces came off. Idk, maybe I’m driving too fast?! 🤷🏽♂️😂😆 I’m thinking of wrapping it also since it makes the car look low quality.
Even my headlights are peeling. It’s weird. 😭
Great review! Do the seats have adjustable lumbar support?
No lumbar support just heights adjustments.

I have replaced the 12V battery three times in the last four years! The last two batteries did not make it though an entire year!!! However, most batteries have only lasted me two years since I moved to Vegas, so only lasting one year is only fifty percent worse than average/normal here.
What year?

so is this lithium or nickle battery??? have any lithuim batts on 2016's gone bad yet? thanks

what year prius did they start using just electronic power steering? thanks
All of them as far as I know. At least since 2004.

Wow, that’s sounds like a big oversight. Why didn’t Toyota install adjust camber control arms?
@@RANDOMFIX cheap
Wow, that’s disappointing, I was planning on picking up a 2023 soon but when I hear of situations like this I might reconsider. I am so with you on the spare tire issue. I will not buy a car if it doesn’t have a spare.
It’s like they are more considered about 1 mph vs the understanding that roadside assistance is not always available and who wants to wait on the side of road for a tow truck. My 2016 had a blowout at 20k miles. I hate the eco green tires as the quality is junk and are a road hazard.
Good luck with your installation.
I’m near Sacramento, does that battery guy do the Ford Escape hybrid battery? My dads needs a replacement.
No sure about the Ford Escape but I would search Craigslist on sac. Also try offer up and let it go ( they are apps that people advertise on in the Sacramento area)
When would you change shocks/struts
My 2013 Prius base model has 156,000, other than the 12V battery, spark plugs and front break pads plus changing out ALL the fluids my car does not need anything else in my opinion this Toyota is the best engineered car in the world with the best quality parts with the longest parts use without failure.

👍👍👍👍👍thanks for the vid.
Glad to hear you like it.
Hey brother, appreciate the video! I have a question in regards to maintenance. I have the same vehicle at about 35,000miles.
I contacted the dealer and they said I needed all this done:
Oil change and tire rotation (unless tires are needed)
Brake flush - 150.00$
Fuel induction service - 160.00$
Cabin filter - 42.50$
Engine air filter - 42.50$
By time because it’s a 2016 you are due for:
Engine Coolant flush: 160.00$
Inverter coolant flush: 160.00$
.. man I am clueless when it comes to cars. What would you recommend I get done at this stage? I assumed it was just oil change and a tire rotation. Anyone who knows let me know please 🙏
At 50-60k I would get all of those done except the filters. Cheaper to replace them yourself
Air filter video ruclips.net/video/HDu3cM0telQ/видео.html
Cabin air filter ruclips.net/video/HBxbcgFt-0o/видео.html
Tire rotation ruclips.net/video/Vfl-2a6ASSs/видео.html
Prius front brakes ruclips.net/video/iMaMllltY2M/видео.html
Brake fluid flush ruclips.net/video/UfUZoRrDpTw/видео.html
Good luck with everything and enjoy
For the coolant flush I would wait until 10 to 150k miles and replace the coolant thermostat at the same time.
As for the fuel treat I would ask what they are going to do. If they are going to replace any fuel filters ( I think the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank ) I would do it now however if they are just going add some fuel treatment into gas I would buy the big bottle of Techron from chevron or a auto parts store instead for under $20.

I know there’s a inventory shortage what are you guys think about the price and mileage
Sorry for the late reply! did you find a solution?
So you didn't examine the filter for the hybrid battery cooling fan. That's a risk I wouldn't want to take particularly in warm weather.
Inefficient cooling will reduce the life of a very expensive battery.
Wow I find power mode to be way too aggressive lol you would get 10+ more mpg from normal eco is too slow
I appreciate your constructive comments, thank you for the feedback!
Its more annoying than anything. Just a slight clicking noise. I will be replacing them myself soon.
Patrick, thanks for sharing this info about the TSB for cv axle.
On the market for one, that’s what brought me here
Good luck with your search. Please buy a cheap scan tool that can read the odometer of the computer and not what is displayed on the instrument cluster as lots of people have changed the cluster and you can get scammed. Let me know if you need help.

As far as price and miles it sounds a little high but I don’t know what region of the usa you are in? How is the condition of the vehicle, tires, anything extra like a roof rack or box? All of those little options and factors can make a big difference.
why do u have a dash cover is the dash melting
Nope it not melting. it protects the dash and less reflective. We like to put our kids initials on it as well.
@@RANDOMFIX ohh ok didn’t think of that u got all these accessories u take good care of ur car
Do you have Michelin defenders?
yes, I got them for American tire for $405, they price match, I hate the service at costco because of the long wait lines.
ive had prius cars since 04 , now i have a 4th gen with original tires dunlop enasave made in japan/ride real nice/good mpg/even wear- ive never heard of factory tires blowing out for a tire defect reason on a prius- if they blow out its cause over inflated or under most the time or some kinda road hazard damage- driver neglect- Not cause there cheap- If u rotate criss cross front to back properly- so tire is opposte side spinning diffrent direction every 3-5 k- Yes michelins are the best longest lasting smooth ride tires provided u take care of them which most do, cause there so expensive- im also michelin man ha ha- i think ur crazy if u buy econo cheap tires & think ur saving money PEACE MR

I think I would change the transmission oil much more than that , at least every 30k
Good video 👍
From buying Prius vehicles for about last 20 years I think it would be over kill. And the 30k idea was something in the past. Lots of newer vehicles for forever fluid which I also don't like.
@@RANDOMFIX Intersting that you don't like the idea of more regular transmissions oil changes ,
If it only cost 100 bucks to change it it's better to have fresh transmission fluid than risk overheating and wear of the box ....just from what I am seeing in the UK in my opinion

It cost $200 and even at 100k the fluid was not that bad and these vehicles don't suffer from an inherit transmission issue.

Nice, Sac was my goto summer hangout and tubing down the river. I'm actually in the East Bay.

Thank you for your feedback, much apprecated!
