I hope you liked my red light therapy mask vs panel video - comment below if you have any remarks or questions. Not only is the price of the panels similar, the ease of use is much better, the power output is greater, and the overall value offered beats the LED masks. So the red light therapy mask vs panel debate is solidly won by the latter, I believe. LED masks may do better for travel though, as they're a lot smaller

I tell my friends and family to never invest in a mask. Either get a small panel or save up and get a bigger panel. A panel, of any size, is an overall better value. You can use it to treat various parts of your body. Another great video man!

Just read your comment literally minutes after purchasing the Omnilux mask, lmao.
This video followed up on Alex's review of the Omnilux mask.
An acquaintance of mine actually looked into panels almost two years earlier.
Although I'm usually the kind of guy that would look for the best value and broadest use for such tools just like you, the form factor for the mask seems like a big pro argument in my case.

What a thorough review, Alex. You covered all the angles, gave pros and cons for each, and most importantly, you relied on science & research, not personal opinion. I like the fact that I only need a few minutes in front of my Mito Pro 1500 to have the same effect as 10-15 minutes with a mask on. Thanks for the comparison.

Great video. I love the omnilux men mask that I purchased. Ten minutes lying down each night and it's relaxing and calms my skin. I like that it wraps closely to my face. The only downside are the Velcro straps to secure to face.. a bit fiddley and basic considering the price paid.

just bought the omnilux during their black Friday sale. I travel a lot and thought it would be better for me for that reason. also the masks seem to have ~630nm more often than the panels which I found to have mostly ~660nm, so I liked that. I'm thinking about buying a panel too but I wasn't sure where to start. I'll take a look through your videos and hopefully get some options :)

Thank you for putting those together. As a person with late stage/chronic lyme, I had been doing it vainly intangent at a tanning salon. So it was a red light BED. This was before my lyme diagnosis but i was having so many mystery/undiagnosed health issues. I could literally feel the spirochetes vibrate through my body in the bed. Now I know why. It helped keep my symptoms at bay, helped with the chronic pain and sure my skin looked better. But it became a necessity. Since moving from that city, I haven’t found another tanning place that has the IR beds. Hence why I’m looking at purchasing something for home use.
Which panel also has the blue light (or other) option? If I’m spending the money, it would be nice to also have something good for anti-aging & hormonal breakouts.
Again, thank you SO much for getting all this info & research out to the public in a scientific way 🙌 new sub!

Thanks Alex. Would love to see a review of the Lumara 1800 Red light panel. It’s in a different price league but used by cosmetologists and aestheticians. Claimed 6,000 joules of evenly distributed light in just 5 mins. I’m considering this as getting an even distribution of light from my BBL Mega panel requires turning from side to side and really bumps up treatment times.

I am looking to invest in a panel myself, just interested in what your thoughts about lower irradiation + longer duration vs higher irradiation + shorter duration? I think a dermatologist was saying LED light therapy is like marinating meat, the cells need a bit of time to soak up the energy slowly to be effective rather than a strong fast hit. What are you thoughts and experiences?

Such a great overview, thanks. Do you think surface coverage might affect the results of mask vs panel? The masks contour the whole face whereas the panels leave a lot of open space for light to dissipate. Do you know of anywhere I might find out more about that? Many thanks, Antonia

    • @AlexFergusdotcom
      @AlexFergusdotcom  5 месяцев назад +1

Yes, this could play into it. As the light is more likely to reflect off when emitted from a distance. But, the panel power output is so much higher, so you need to factor that in as well.

Totally agree. Panel is more powerful, more versatile and the session lasts much shorter. For skin 3 min is enough. You didn't mention Mito Original 2.0 panel for $249. In my opinion it's excellent value and takes little space thanks to kickstand you can fold. Mito PRO and Adapt you showed in the video are also great but have larger stand and higher price tag. I would not invest in $400 in a mask if I wanted to do light therapy on face at home. $250 panel will provide much more light. If people need a portable device, still handheld Mito Mobile Flex offers stronger light and much more versatility than a mask for $249!

Hi, I also can’t use the masks because it brings out my melasma and it’s actually two things 1. heat and 2. NIR (inferred) so I can only use Red light. The omnilux actually left brown dots from the bulbs on my forehead that’s how I put two and two together as to why I was getting brown patches on my cheeks all of a sudden. I had a perfect line of dots across my forehead and that’s exactly where the lights were on the mask. Good luck and if you find a mask or panel please update me. I’m looking to by another led

I think the masks are such scams. Most of the companies give a 30 day return window but you cannot even use the mask. It has to be returned unopened. It's nuts. Qure is one of those companies

Thank you for the info. I'm deciding between Dermalux flex and Omnilux contour. The Dermalux treatment time is 30 minutes as the Omnilux is 10 minutes. I'd buy the Dermalux now but I'm trying to figure out if 10 minutes on both are comparable or if you need more time on the Dermaflex to get results of the 10 minutes. Time may be a factor. Thank you so very much for any thoughts on time comparisons.

None of these panel devices are cleared by the FDA. They are marketed under the ILY code which is 510K exempt, so most are not even tested to the correct electrical safety standards or photobiological standards. The claims made on the panels are completely off label and there are very few of these rigid panels that are cleared under the 510K route.

What would be better for healing the jaw after jaw surgery? I bought a Hooga 300 but it’s kind of annoying having to stick my face in front of the panel. It also doesn’t feel like it’s quite wrapping around my whole face. A mask seems like it would cover all angles of my face and maybe even reach my jaw joints on the side which is another area of concern. My only worry is that the mask might not be as effective as a panel? But if the Hooga mask also deliver near infrared, wouldn’t it theoretically be the same as sticking my face in the panel? My primary goal is to reach the bones in the face.

I have much respect and faith in your thoughts as I appreciate your honestly and objective reviews.
I am desperate to use red light therapy, but I am petrified that it will worsen me melasma. I have really bad melasma on my entire face; I am a Fitzpatrick skin type 4. I have tried everything as well as 8% hydroquinone mixed with azelaic acid etc (made a modest difference , I am serious) . I tried Meladerm, Cyspera, Retin A, azelaic acid 15%, Tranexamic acid, Arbutin, Niacinamide, Good molecules, Vit c etc ( and the list goes on) with modest results. I am vegetarian, does not eat processed food and does moderate exercise 3X a week and very vigilant about using sunscreen and reapplying!
I would like to try red light therapy but I get mixed results about the effect on melasma, some says it does not affect melasma and some says it does for example Dr Vanita Rattan prohibits the use of red light on skin of color and I believe Dr Sam Ellis made a similar comment.
I would appreciate your thoughts on the effects of red light on pigmented skin like mine…much appreciated.

There are better masks on the market than those ones.
More power doesn’t always mean better, the right amount for the task is what is best.
They are two different products and there are masks with more ideal wavelengths and led positioning than panels, plus they don’t produce heat which causes melasma to people prone to hyperpigmentation (typically women).
You can still use it on the body if it s the flexible type and won’t take up room if you live in a smaller place.
Overall I find the masks to be a product that target women better than man.
I choose a good mask that delivers over a panel, will get a panel if I get obsessed with this therapy and want to do all my body at once 😊
