a friend of mine traded horses, county fair races, etc. and was down to one horse. It was lonely so he got a sheep. They hung out in the pasture, and both were happy to have a friend. All herd animals are supposed to be that way. Can't blame them.

Goats and cows are heard animals and need to be in a herd to feel safe and comfortable. They're not meant to just graze all of bone in a pasture. That's just mean. The neighbors could have bought their cow a goat or a horse to hang out with and that would have made all the difference in the world.

@@vickiew8642 Correct. Cow is famale. Steer is male. Specifically a female who's had a baby and a male who's been castrated. But that's not how most common people talk. But most people still refer to them in general as cows. 🐄 💖🐄💖

I just found you. Love how you all treat each other and the critters.. Great to watch for a city girl who loves animals. I'm wondering how you make your money to afford all the land, the tractor, horse trailer, and feed for the animals. Do you sell eggs and chickens ? Are the goats pets or do they give milk? And you've named them all so I'm guessing you're not eating these animals. I love all the cute names you picked. I hope in my next life I could live like this.

Moody looks very similar to the Holstein steer that Chad at Adler Farms had. But this one is so friendly and not skiddish like his was. I was so happy when I saw him lick Nugget! Happy dance! 😁💕🤗

It's so easy to fall in love with baby animals. I feel for the big ones who aren't so cute anymore. Just a few minutes with Moody and I was in love. He seems like a gentle giant. I guess you'll have to get him one of those cow scratching post or he might break a few things. He is a lovely boy.

Moody seems a very gentle new member of Cog Hill. Appeats to want contact and attention and also seeks friends around him. Probably that was what madr him wander to join the goats at the other fatm. Likely the new original farm owners were not paying close attention and left him much on his own, isolated from other animals.
Good to see friendly approach to Nugget and that Nugget is not driven away by the large new "Monster" that has turned up. Nugget so far seems to accept Moody closeup, and likely there will be good interaction in both directions. So it seems after first close introduction.
You should have plenty grazing space, issue may be needing stronger fencing, or even electric wire strand. If your 'flower garden, or vegerable garden is too tempting it may be important for adequate 'fences' or Moody may self help to some nice edible greens.
It is so good that Moody is so gentle and happy to have human contact. Somewhat unusual for edfectively strangers to get immediate acceptance to such new people. Suggests he was raised as a close pet by the original people, from young calf point always in constant close interaction.
Good luck with your new family member.

Moody has "earrings" - that must mean he is registered - and that should mean that someone wrote down which type of cow he is? He seems very friendly - I hope you will have a good time having him on the farm - and he too!

It's doubtful. Tags are generally just to identify what Momma he belongs to, and possibly the number he was in order of herd births the season he was born. Basically just identifiers. There's no reason to register a steer as he won't be procreating

    • @jeffkiehne2545

@@rwjingo4955 They tag to track where the animal has been in case of any disease out break or try and steal .

    • @rwjingo4955
      @rwjingo4955 2 года назад

@@jeffkiehne2545 if they take animals to sell , sure. The sale barn would record the tag number along with the owner's name and a brief description when it's checked in. Thus, the buyer could trace it back to the farm.
When we ran 200 head of beef though, it was 90% for our own identification of the animal. We could keep track of the good mamas, cull out the poor ones, etc. by their number. In the case of theft, around here, one would be very lucky to find their cow within 24 hours and it still have the tag.

Cows are herd animals, the poor cow was probaby all alone. It would probaby be very happy to live with the goats, if you make a separate pasture, he might break out again, that is if he doesn't have another cow to pasture with. 😆 This streer because he's cut can really large!
He might like a few toys to play with, he's still young!

I'm a Texas gal and I'm used to being around Herefords, Longhorns, Brahmas and Angus cattle. Moody certainly is a Holstein! He needs good feed. Cattle, like other animal, need companions. He was probably lonely by himself and was looking for a herd of friends. I think you're going to need a bigger shelter!

I absolutely love this video. We had a bottle calf after we came to live here to take care of my in-laws. He would “escape” the pasture fence and quietly graze and lounge in our yard. When we went outside, he didn’t run, like other escapees, he would quietly start walking down the long driveway and we would walk him down the road. He would go to the main gate and wait until we opened it to let him in. I was upset when my father-in-law decided to send him with the others to market. Cattle was only $ to him and he didn’t “need no pets”. Both of my in-laws have passed and we have the farm. This city girl now has 40 chickens, 7 guineas & 3 sheep in addition to our 3 dogs. Pets!
