It really is incredible how they transformed the very odd flashy ill-suited opening number from the 1988 production into this great pop punk teen angst jam. It's barely even recognizable as the same song.
chamberlin high doesn't have a school theme song.... this is just a song about what their life is like... what they worrie and don't worrie about... and how they want to fit IN with life
I totally agree, the song is about everyone feeling insecure, and how they would die then being unpopular (foreshadowing lmao) and when its more individual it kinda takes the point away
This one needs the group involved for most, if not all of it, whereas "Beautiful" from Heathers, a song with basically the same theme of teenage anxiety and fitting in, can break off into individual solos to make the character stand out. The difference is this one is much darker, doesn't get the comic relief of Beautiful, and doesn't focus on background characters so lumping all the teens in together works. It gives a general feeling of anxiety whereas Heathers shows what individuals are dealing with in their minds.
I think the new lyrics were meant to focus on all of the things teens struggle with... The first verse still deals with appearance... Then you have the struggles of parents and school... And the final verse is really just the literal desire to fit in, whatever it takes to do that As far as a song that only focuses on the more shallow struggles... I actually preferred Ain't It a Bitch from the 1984 workshop, which 'In' later replaced But I love this version of In xD
I was there for a Thespian Festival when it was in Tampa. Heard four groups do this exact same song before they opened the doors. And one of them from my old high school.
***** yeah my school did it as small group and it was amazing but the large group musicals that did it were okay, some didnt have many harmonies involved only good choreography

I came across this musical by accident and found out how it flopped......I listen to this song on my ipod everyday.....and world according to chris, the destruction, dreamer in disuse and epilogue......they were just the few that I downloaded but I consider these songs really awesome!! I love people who take trash and turn it into treasure....mind you I do love trash....but these guys gave it some dignity.....Its amazing how different it is from the original
the 1988 musical flopped, the 2012 revival actually did quite well. The songs from the 1988 version are either lyrically different or do not exist in this version of the show. What is interesting it's the same composer and lyricist of the 988 version.
What I love about this song is that it really gives you insight into the kids, and how they were all going through their own shit. Doesnt excuse what happened to Carrie but I think it ups the sympathy for them. Except for Chris, she's evil
I think Chris is an excellent example of the prospect of the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Based on the book as well as the musical as alluded to in the song "the world according to Chris" her family life is pretty diluted by a step on others backs to get what you want mentality, so is she really evil or a product of her own environment? This is why I absolutely love the story Mr. King wrote as well as this show, taking "don't judge a book by it's cover " as cannon!!
This entire show got me through a really hard time in my life when my partners were divorcing and I had to watch our family die. This show awkwardly gave me comfort and satisfaction.

Both are great but I LOVE the 1988 opening so much!
I really did not like the 1988 one. It did not feel like an opening for a horror musical.
This is like high school's theme song...
Erin Hugee this and that lifeboat song from heathers
Slick Swim IKR! I was thinking the same thing!!
And Candy Store from Heathers And Carrie
chamberlin high doesn't have a school theme song.... this is just a song about what their life is like... what they worrie and don't worrie about... and how they want to fit IN with life
Definitely
I feel like this song isn’t as powerful if it’s sung by individuals, which is why the riverdale one sounds so off and choppy
I've gotta disagree with you there the Riverdale one sounds pretty good but this one sounds kinda robotic if you know what I mean
@@mogy7331 I think the Riverdale one's *robotic* after all that autotune.. But I respect your opinion, though I don't agree with it. :)

Throwback to when Christy and Derek were in love in a show that wasn't Anastasia
They really improved the lyrics from the original (as well as the orchestration, choreography, and costumes).
It's very good, although the original worked well in it's own way too.
Agreed.
The clips I’ve seen seem very Greek
Christy altomare was defiantly one of the stronger points of this show!!!
her acting in this is amazing!
She’s the perfect Sue 👌🏼
the Girl who plays Susan fantastic acting
Jack:Stevens217 its Cristy Altomare!
Yes I love everything she does. Her recent work in Anastasia is what brought me here and I'm glad
It's Christy Altomare! You should see her in Anastasia! She is amazing!
