Cayla Marie (I know this isn't carrie but still-) I WANNA WATCH THE WORLD BURN, I GOT THE GASOLINE, I WANNA WATCH THE WORLD BURN AND EVERYONE GET MEAN-
I can see problems with the show, and why it didn’t go to Broadway. But I also think that with a little tweaking, it could happen. The songs are gorgeously written.
"Everyone has a carrie in them" sure, but remember kids if you ever get humiliated the way carrie does doesn't mean you get to use you telekinetic abilities to wreak havoc on all the bitches that hurt you at prom... You knew that? Okey dokey just checkin'
Plot twist: The whole Anastasia musical is Sue dreaming of her as a princess and Tommy as a con man and they actually end up together after the whole destruction went down. The ensemble of Carrie is the ensemble of Anastasia and the other characters (Vlad, Lily, and the Dowager) are member’s of Sue’s family. It’s a coping mechanism for Sue so she can deal with everyone’s deaths. No this isn’t real don’t take me seriously 😂
Very few things in this world are hotter than a performer feeling the music, nailing it, undeniably and unquestionably owning every syllable and note, and then relaxing at the end with this "*Sigh* well that wasn't bad, let's give it another go".
musiclife97 I play Sue and I agree but epilogue is considered “on of sues songs” and I gotta say it’s the reason I auditioned for sue because the song left a impact on me.
Holy crap. I have listened to this recording over and over countless times and always loved And Eve Was Weak....to see her performing it in the studio and her creating that performance...wow I teared up. That woman is amazing!!!
The movie adaptation was showing in the tv yesterday, and I didn't even give my sister the chance to finish saying, "There's a movie called Carrie on the tv and it has a character called Sue--" I ran headfirst into the next room, dived onto the bed and screeched, "YUP THAT'S THE ONE!", scaring my cousin in the process.
I enjoyed both the Broadway and off-Broadway productions, which audiences loved. I am pleased that the L.A. show received rave reviews, and I congratulate Messrs Pitchford (lyrics) and Gore (music) for their triumph!!
From it's meager premiere, and the 30 years since, I have been a huge fan of Carrie The Musical. Throughout all of those years, I have seen nearly 25 different productions by both armature and professional casts. I hate witnessed the evolution from an already beautiful & amazing show to the masterpiece it has finally become. But it still pisses me off that, because of one single critic who had a grudge against one of the producers, wrote such a horrible review of the original production. And to this day, Carrie has never gotten a fair shot because of that single 1987 review. If there is any musical that deserves a spot ON Broadway, it's Carrie. Aside from that, I have to say that Marin Mazzie was the best Margaret White. Sorry Betty Buckley & Barbara Cook. You were both wonderful, but this one goes to Marin.
I share your enthusiasm but my understanding was also some bad buzz that was hard to overcome. Also, apparently the non-Carrie/Margaret White scenes were problematic. I also think that Debbie Allen's presence added an unintentionally garish element. In Peter Filichia's "Not Since Carrie: 40 Years of Broadway Flops" he describes one sequence as "over choreographed." It seems the choreography was at war with the show. I'm a director and choreographer. The dance element is important to me but in the '88 production it seemed a misfire. Anyway I to share your enthusiasm for this show and hope to direct it locally in Northern California,
I saw the original production. It was awful. Why were they all wearing catsuits? Worst costumes ever. You wouldn't have been able to follow the plot unless you previously read the book or saw the movie. The director was very misguided. The new songs replace inferior songs too. Everything about this last version better.
@@stephenlandsman director: “can you make this like greeSe?” Costume/set designer: “sure! GreeCe!” Thus the Roman tragedy..of Carrie the 1987 musical..
This is one of my favourite musicals; not in that it's perfect, I just have a lot of love for it. But oh my goodness Derek Klena looks like such a baby in this video my god.
didn't know anything about the show before seeing the West Coast Premiere in LA a month or so ago at La Mirada theatre. Unbelievable. The seating areas are moved around withing the theater space which was kept entirely on the stage with the audience actually sitting in High School Bleachers. Misty Cotton was brilliant as Margaret and Emily Lopez was amazing. 37 years of going to theater and never saw anything quite like it. Hopefully they will be bringing it back to a permanent venue and if they do...and you're a fan. Get there if you can. You won't believe what it's like to be thrust into the middle of the story.
Yeah, you can hear on the recording that she has some sort of accent, but because of her last name (de Waal, I believe) I thought it was a Dutch or a German accent.
I didn’t know Ben Thompson was in this production too!!! I’ve now officially met 3 people who were in this haha! And they were all so incredibly kind and talented (Ben recently joined the cast of Waitress on Broadway as Earl! He’s scary in the show lol)
Ghostlight Records, is there a video recording of this version? The only one I've found online appears to be a bootlegged version or something-- very poor quality.
gaah. I like the album, but I HAAAATE the arrangement of Eve was Weak. It takes all the religiously zealous drama out of the song. The best part of that song is the strings, and there's just a guitar in this version. It just doesn't sound big enough.
Or if she had friends after the blood spill. “OMG ARE YOU OKAY?” “NO! HELP ME NOW!” “WE’VE GOT YOU SWEETIE!” “HELP MEE PLEASEEEE” “ITS OKAY WE CAN HELP!” “THANKS!” No death 👏
I agree that it feels like they have lost a bunch what the original had going for it, and i really miss the song at the drive in song and the full scene of piggy, they should have kept certain parts in and not change it to cater to an updated time and place. there are shows that dont need updating, hated the new movie with all the phones and crap.
