    I placed a Better World Books order yesterday: An Artist in Treason by Linklater and The Great Bridge by McCullough. I'm looking directly at you, Erion! 🥸

      LOL Yay! Oh we're so excited. An Artist in Treason is Prometheus's fault. That was his book and he made me read it. It's shocking and I've never heard it mentioned in history books. And of the five McCullough books I've read there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Oh I'm so excited for you. I hope you enjoy both books. 🤗

      it was certainly an eclectic reading month. LOL I've been told there's a movie/tv series of Masters of the Air. I don't stream movies but the book is usually better. 😁

    My wife asked me what was so funny on RUclips that I was laughing out loud for? I told her that Ms. Areon is Raw and out of control.! My goodness this is a side of you that I've never seen. I love it! Thomas Paine, I would love to hear what he would say about the Olympics in France. Thomas Paine and John Quincy Adams are my new Heroes! And you didn't just throw the book away you tore it up! I seriously suggest that you read the book How The Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill. It is so relevant today. I burned out on WWII because I read it for years and years and finally said enough! A "Book Hangover!" I love that. Thank you Ms. Areon for making me laugh and also seriously think about a few things. -James

      LOL OH yay~ I'm happy to hear you got some joy and a good chuckle out of the video. Have you read Harlow Jiles Unger's book about JQA? It's such a great book and Unger is witty and made the content a pleasure to read, as well as informative. Yes, I'd be interested to know what scathing comments Paine would write about the Olympics. I added How the Irish Saved Civilization to my goodreads. Prometheus was aware of the book, so I've also added it to my BetterWorldBooks cart. Oh my, I cannot imagine reading on the same topic for years. That is some serious dedication. I understand the burnout. For the final quarter of Historathon I plan on including a Vietnam book because I recently found out my uncle was a helicopter pilot who went in to rescue the soldiers and I found a book about that. I hope you and your wife have a lovely day. Happy reading.

      I had commented that I read and enjoyed the book about the French Vietnam war. The book is by Bernard B Fall titled Hell In A Very Small Place: The Siege of Dien Bien Phu. It isn't about America's involvement in the war so you might not enjoy it? Maybe this one will post

    I did not know that about Switzerland but, honestly, I can't say I'm surprised. I've always considered their WWII neutrality rather spineless at best and more likely nefarious. I mean, when you're dealing with evil, it's sort of hard NOT to pick a side, isn't it?

    • @BookZealots
      @BookZealots  2 месяца назад +1

      Excellent point! I had always wondered why they didn't choose either. After I read how they weren't actually neutral I was so angry with their deception. And angry at our country for hiding it. I need to look up the source the author used and do more digging, but there was so much information in the Master's of the Air.

    That was how I felt about Mysteries of Udolpho as well. There were good parts, but it was a hard book for me to get through. 😅
    I haven’t read Masters of the Air, but my husband and I watched the show. It was so intense and I loved the characters so much that I found myself almost start praying for their safety at one part. I have never had that happen before and it made me laugh. There was some swearing and one part I didn’t like that involved an affair. But it was so powerful. I think I need to read it now. I didn’t know there was a book.

    • @BookZealots
      @BookZealots  2 месяца назад +1

      LOL I have found myself do that in a movie. I don't remember which one, and I had to remind myself, oh yeah, this is overwith. It might have been Unbroken. Funny that you didn't know about the book. When Prometheus and I bought it at the local bookstore, we hadn't been aware of the show. Someone on goodreads recommended I watch it, but I don't stream and will have to wait and see if it comes out on DVD. How much of the affair is shown? We don't watch shows that show nudity or petting, etc.
      There is a section in the book that I skipped over because it was just too much information of fornication. The book really needs a video review.
      I'm happy to hear I'm not alone regarding Udolpho. I'll give it another try...later. LOL Maybe three total. Was it worth pushing through? Or was it mediocre?

    • @CandlewickLibrary
      @CandlewickLibrary 2 месяца назад +1

      @@BookZealots honestly I thought it was kind of mediocre. But I’ve heard others say they loved it.
      I can’t remember exactly how much was shown. But I tend to look away if we are watching a show that has that kind of stuff start… so I may miss how much is shown. I think the girl may have been seen topless from the side.

    Hi, hello and a rant! I love a rant lol. I've been on a fluff palette cleanser recently too but going through my July list I did read some pretty good books. The four real ones were Stephen King's You Like It Darker, Riley Sager's Middle of the Night, Lucy Foley's The Midnight Feast and that awful sci-fi Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky and the rest were just some throwaway horrors
    I'm surprised that Lucy Foley's book was my favorite of the month! So glad she turned it around from whatever happened to the Paris Apartment, I did not like that one at all.
    Take care and see ya on the next one. Hope you got some good ones planned for August and don't need to tear any up!

      Hooray for a great reading month and a pleasant surprise book. 👍 I might have to re-record my August tbr video. I'm not happy with what I recorded. My tbr is always bigger than what I have time to read, especialy for this time of year. And every year we have issues with the mowers. Yes, that's plural. And I still need to paint. The list of chores grows quicker than my tbr. 😲
      Happy reading, or listening.

      🤣 LOL Great comment. If you've read Pride and Prejudice and liked it, I wouldn't recommend bothering with Unmarriageable. But if you hated P&P, then I would say you might like the retelling? I don't think it's worth bothering though. There are far too many better written books to be read. Thank you for the laugh. 🤗

    I just got through read the Josephine trilogy written in diary form and passages from letters. I didn’t get into that first but ended finishing the over 1200 pages in record time. I hardly knew anything about empress Josephine and now I want to read more. You know one of my favorite people is Robert e lee a great soldier so I am interested in reading more about napoleon since people think he is a great soldier and strategist comparing him to Alexander the Great. There wasn’t much about him in battle. If you didn’t know this was a novel you might think it was nonfiction. I really enjoyed it. I gave it a 3 I started to give it a 4. Tragically she died at 51. Her first marriage was extremely unhappy and he was guillotined during the Revolution. I totally agree on your opinion about the start of the civil war. It makes me angry too. People really need to educate themselves. The north had a lot of slaves and that fact is totally ignored.

      I think I had a trilogy on Joesphine a few years ago. I read the first book but never got to the other two and decided to pass them on to someone more interested. I'm glad you enjoyed the books about her. And I'd say they were well written if they make a reader more interested in the subject. I also like books that make the reader forget it's a work of historical fiction. That sounds like good writing. Wasn't she in prison or somewhere deplorable when Napoleon found her? And basically rescued her?
      I've read Napoleon was good at strategy. I think he also had a lot of charisma and was bold. Have you read The Count of Monte Cristo? I would recommend reading The Black Count by Thomas Reiss. And what Dumas's father did to Napoleon and partially, I think, may have been a catalyst to Napoloeon doin what he did.
      People take what they were fed in gov institutions as golden and never question and don't continue to learn or autodidact. It's frustrating. As an adult there have been many things I've learned and had to change my opinions based on the knew knowledge, but I think that scares a lot of people. =(
      Oh, in Rebel Yell there's information on McClellan saying he'd resign if Lincoln made the war about the slaves. 😲 Most authors will say McClellan submitted his resignation, but not the reason.
      I know a couple of years ago (?) another booktuber disagreed with me and I told her, I totally get it. I grew up in the gov education, I was fed the same half truths/lies. She unsubscribed from me and I've never heard from her again. One can bring the horse to the water or in this case, water to the horse...
      I hope you're having a great weekend. Happy reading~

    I may have missed it at some point, but do you have a system with your tabs? Colors for certain things you’re marking? Or just any tab in spots you want to remember?

      @BookZealots  2 месяца назад +1

      I do have a color system. I have mentioned in a video years ago about the color coding, but I keep meaning to do a dedicated video of my tab system and how i annotate. Thank you for reminding me. Oranges mean I disagree with the author or if it's faith based, the information contradicts the Bible. I need red tabs. LOL Blue is for information I didn't know or want to look up. I'll try and get a video recorded on it.

    I put Defenders of the Faith on my Libby tbr; thanks. What an interesting selection of books!
    Do you have a habit of threatening books with bodily destruction and throwing them on the floor? 😂 I mean, that Pride & Prejudice knock-off sounded like it deserves its fate… hopefully you experienced immense satisfaction after consigning its remains to the trash. 😁

    • @BookZealots
      @BookZealots  2 месяца назад

      Hi Tahlia~ Oh yes, I think yu would like Defenders of the Faith.
      It depends on what you mean by habit. I have thrown books in the past and will continue to do so if the book is rubbish. There's a quote credited to a Dorothy Parker who supposedly included it in a book review:
      "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."
      The book was offensive to women, students, teachers, Muslims and Christians. Besides that is was just ridiculous. If it had just been ridiculous it would not have been thrown.
      I have thrown my copy in the bin and I'm glad my copy will not find its way into someone elses hands. There are much better books out there, for instance Pride and Prejudice. LOL

    Thank you for your thoughts on Unmareagable. I don't usually go for retellings of Austen, so I don't know that I would have ever picked it up, but now I know it does not appeal to me. It made me rather sick just to hear your nondescriptive thoughts.

      I was so disappointed with Unmarriageable. It came recommended by two booktubers and one is a Christian. And I wanted to share the explicit reasons why this book is not appropriate and definitely not a good retelling. I was offended. If I were a muslim I'd be even more so.
