We had 48 hrs of rain (10 inches) then Helene flew through. Western NC could sure use prayers. My family is okay, but many people lost homes today. I haven't heard how many people were lost. Dams failed. It was a very bad day. I just wanted to pop on and ask for prayers.

Hi, hello and thank you for sharing your morning with us, never a dull moment on the farm. The big storm is starting to come down here today and doesn't look like it's gonna let up until this weekend, so we're gonna just be hunkering down here and hoping it doesn't get too crazy. And yes NYC is SO LOUD!! So loud and crowded! We did feel safe there at least, but we also were surrounded by a lot of people most of the time and stayed in tourist-y areas so that probably helped too. I most definitely could not and would not live there either, no way
Sending some positive thoughts your way for your doggie

I'm going to look into an update on the hurricane. I usually only pay attention if storms are headed towards my brother in S.C. and offer him a place to stay if he wants.
I've heard the touristy spots in London are more dangerous (pick pockets or snatch and grabs). And I heard there were snatch and grabs from scooter gangs in NY. I thought I saw one in one of your videos. But I'm glad nothing dangerous happened to you all and overall it was a good visit. I still need to watch 4. I don't think I received notifications for them all. I'll have to check. RUclips is trying to punish me right now.

I have a young awesome boxer mix, trained him to be a guard dog. Hes the sweestest canine Ive ever had, but his bark still manages to scare me.
Due to life circumstances Im looking for his next caretaker 🥲.
Currently living a short distance from NYC, there is a definite exodus going on. So much so that Im being pushed out of the area we've called home since 2000. I require space (mostly to think) and thats just not possible here anymore. The density is having a noticeable effect on my mental health. The kindness and etiquette the locals once had has completely evaporated. On to greener pastures! For the best really.
Thanks for sharing, was a nice dose of escapism.

I'm sorry you need to rehome your guard dog. =( That's a hard decision to make.
yes! Okay, you understand the need for space and the connection of mental health. That doesn't surprise me. I'm excited for you in finding new pastures. I hope you'll share when you find it or get settled. It's a concern that more people are getting pushed out of their areas.
      Thank you for commenting.

@@BookZealots Kano (my guard dog) will be happy where ever he goes. Just keeping my eye out for the right place 😉.
Luckily it was easy for me to find my next space, I just had to look and be honest with myself.
I have my heart set on the desert, but for now I'm headed back to Appalachia which is where I was born. Very exciting and I needed to be miserable first in order to make this step.
      Everything for a reason.

My mom and dad went to New York in the early 90’s and my dad was mugged in the revolving door of Macy’s. The police told my dad never walk around New York with a camera they know your a tourist. My dad was filming with his video camera right before he was mugged. They took my daughter on a trip. They went to Washington and she got to see the pandas. It’s suppose to get rough here from the hurricane maybe 8” of rain here. I lived in Florida for 4 years. My daughter was born there. I loved it. We lived in Jacksonville about 7 miles from the beach. We went through hurricane David while living there. My greyhound had bone cancer and the vet wanted to amputate his leg. Because he could live maybe a year. I didn’t do it. I gave him pain meds to keep him comfortable till I had to make the decision. It was his back right legs. In 2 months it was the size of a cantaloupe. I am sorry. I had a boxer Rottweiler mix. He was the best.

What a horrible experience. I'm sorry that happened. Was that before or during the time Rudy Giuliani was mayor? I had an Italian aunt who went to visit family in NY and she saw a burglary taking place and she was going yell at the guy and everyone around her shut her up and scurried her away. That was in the 1980's though. I haven't paid attention to the hurricane. I suppose I should we had a tornado siren go off yesterday. Is there supposed to be strong winds or just the rain?

@@BookZealotsit’s suppose to be strong winds here. I’m not sure what year that happened. My daughter is 43 now and my parents took her. I am thinking it was in the late 80’s or early 90’s. They took her everywhere. She was their only grandchild. My dad paid for me to fly from Florida When she was a couple of months old. My mom said he couldn’t stand it not seeing her. I went through the Atlanta airport with a baby, stroller and all baby stuff. A nightmare I still remember.

How did you fare in the storm Vickie? Are you okay? I hope you dind't have any flooding or damage. My brother is in S.C. and he had a tree break. He's not sad about it, he wanted to take it down, but it was too big a job for him. We have lots of twigs that have broken off of trees, nothing big that I've noticed.
If you have internet, please let me know if you're okay. I heard TN was hit quite hard.

@@BookZealots it was pretty bad here in northwest Georgia. Lots and lots of rain and really windy. Lots of trees down everywhere but I haven’t seen and down right near me. I never lost power thank goodness. Thank you so much for thinking of me. How was it up there. My sister-in-law lives in Gainesville Florida and got hit hard. She lost power. She was coming up to stay with my niece outside Knoxville but decided to wait till the hurricane passed and now till they get her power going. She fortunately has a generator. That was a bad hurricane. Lots of people without power. I have 2 creeks near my house one which is by my yard. It’s really flooded but there is an incline up
To my yard. My dad who would have been 95 in a couple of days always said he never saw it flood up over the ride. Where I live is my great grandparents home site. There was lots of flooding everywhere.

I've been to Chicago. I used to love it until 2009 and we never returned. I've been told Chicago is a smaller version of NYC.
Did you grandfather share stories about the sidwalk games the kids played? When I was about 10 new neighbors bought the house next to us and the wife grew up in the Bronx and she'd share stories with me. I loved it!
Did you grow up playing outside?

I bet her stories were so interesting!
My maternal grandfather was born in 1914. His parents came over from Odessa around 1912. He’d talk about how it was noisy lol There were several siblings and he loved to read and would escape to a corner of the apartment with his buttered bread and read. ❤ One of his stories I loved to envision when he told it was the ice man who would carry the ice up the many floors of the building. Amazing times. He didn’t mention playing in the street - sounds like his mother tried to keep them close and in a lot. They ventured as kids do. lol
I played outside of course - it was the 70s lol I dug in the dirt - planted rocks for some reason - and ride my big wheels and later my bike all over :)

@@BookZealots Wow, derangement syndrome.. how interesting that a hateful attitude destroys rationality. Makes sense. Somehow the two are connected. I am not surprised you're changing your mind about moving south. I think it would be sad to leave such a nice home and property with plenty of space for more books... to live somewhere else in a smaller house. Less upheaval is better, in my opinion... unless you're Abraham hearing God telling you to move west permanently. Somehow you will manage. I say that knowing how hard it is at my age (72) to be in charge of one half acre - that doesn't look anywhere near as good as your land. CA grasses are brown, not green, this time of year... at least in my yard. I don't have a real lawn anymore. What little there was, was obliterated by the fire and cleanup activities. Anyhow, wishing you well. I've thought of getting a dog but I don't know that I can take on any more huge responsibilities. And dogs are that.

@@vantripper IQ is lowered in mobs too. Fun little brain facts. =) About moving, I agree. We were going to have to sell almost all of our furniture to move and buy a house the size of a crack jack box and pay higher prices. No thank you. But it was also the crime rate we weren't thrilled with. It's more God stopping us. This is the second time this has happened. The first delay was covid. Pretty big delay. LOL Then this second one was Prometheus needing to take two extra math classes, because he's a transfer student and didn't take the SAT or the ACT. And he was researching jobs and degrees and said it isn't profitable to pay the extra tuition at the private school in FL.
I told my husband, "well, if we're staying here for 4 or more years, I want a refurbished kitchen." LOL And he said, "um, what are you thinking? How much are you thinking?" It was hilarious. I can't do the flooring and I can't do the countertops, but I can paint the cabinets. It's only in the thinking stage. But first, a used truck for Prometheus.
Are you still going to plant a flower garden?
and yes, dogs are a huge responsibility.

We're good James. Thank you. Busy on the land. We, thank God, did not get hit hard with the storm. We had dead wood get blown out of trees, a Winnie the Pooh blustery day type clean up and about three inches of rain. We have a lot of work to do before winter hits.
Been praying for the people hit hard with this hurricane though. People are realizing they can't rely on the gov to help them. It's very scary and I wish I had a helicopter to fly in water and food for these people.
This is the day that the Lord has made and I will be glad in it.
