That cost is a dealbreaker for me :(
izzynobre when is cost not the deal breaker?? LOL
izzynobre haha same. It's a shame because it's neat little device.
AGbaby235 yeah I would TOTALLY buy that for a dollar (but nothing more right?) LOL!!!!
Agreed, for 30 I might pick it up as a novelty but 54 + shipping is a tough sell.
I would buy it for 30
I'd easily drop 20 on that, 54 is too much.
The Game Dude that's why it costs 54, because it's worth more than 20 and that's why you would but can't get it for that price :D
nowonmetube that's a matter of a opinion and ojectionably untrue.
The Game Dude that's NOT a matter of opinion! They do EXACT calculations on that! If you would work as a businessman in the field of economics you would know that. So it IS technically true! You know how much that hardware costs, ingeneering and development costs? You have NO idea! Exactly.
As someone who does business with novelty hardware, what nowonmetube says is true. I work with Game Boy mods- I saw others were charging at least $80 and topping off at $160 for the same item that costs about $40 to make on a budget. I figured if I was someone who wanted to buy my product, I wouldn't pay more than $60. As as seller, I could still come out on top at $60.
So while I also wouldn't pay more than $20 for this Tetris card, I also have to consider how much the parts and labor went into this for it to cost so much. Honestly, I might drop $50 if I had the cash to blow if I saw it at a convention due to its Game & Watch design, but it's a hard sell to me otherwise.
Just FYI they made a new one in color called the Tetris micro arcade for 20 bucks
Without sounding to weird your channel is so dope. Your voice isn't annoying and you provide really nice thorough information. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your future videos.
I love your extremely professional style.
Right? Best reviewer on RUclips right now.
Zethra Kage it's the high quality camera and mic
I got it years ago and I still play it. It still works perfectly, and with the high quality materials all damage it's taken is invisible or non-existent
I want to chew on those arrow keys.
weird but true
The return of game and watch and other single title game devices.
Remember our theoretical "Gameboy Classic" conversation? This is the form factor I was thinking! They'd have to update some things of course, like the screen, but I'd buy one in a heart beat if it was under 100 bucks.
Geek Therapy Radio
I can see Nintendo repurposing 3ds boards for a gameboy classic. Im thinking that because the regular 2ds is so cheap already.
patrick borrelli They'd have to make the boards much smaller, but I suppose it's possible.
Wouldn't even need the 3DS grunt if all it was running were 8-Bit gameboy games. You could probably fit the processor, roms, etc on a circuit board the size of a quarter these days.
A quarter? Pfft, you could fit it on a dime. Okay, maybe not a dime for cost reasons (micro engineering is expensive), but definitely a nickel or penny.
Im getting one! Love your content! 👍🏻
I would pick one up if it was reprogrammable. I think the community could do a lot of cool stuff with that. An Arduboy with a vertical directed screen would be great for other arcade games.
But 60 bucks for a machine that's capable of less than the standard?
It's a perfect present though. Something I want realy bad, but would never spend thath much money on.
I ordered mine a while ago. Must check and see when it's coming.
Very cool review, Colin!
You can review the arduboy with another games in the future since I think its the same technology, design and buttons on a different orientation.. that would be great :) There are even a lot of other games to download and try..
Keep it up with the awesome content. Always a pleasure to come home from work and see a TDNC video waiting for me. I've had my eye on this or the arduboy, but I think its the cost that is driving me away. I actually think its a completely fair price all things considered, it's just not realistic in most budgets. ):
Hi Colin! Iam going to grab that when a get my tax payback in April :) First time a played Tetris was over by a friend that had a DMG Gameboy in the bathroom with Tetris. And a got hooked and git addicted to it. I still play it everyday.
Great vid
I’m good Colin, how are you?
Interesting as a novelty item and looks well executed. It's like a modern take on the old LCD games and Game & Watch. It's not for me, but I hope you enjoy it. It does look very nice.
That form-factor, though. 😍
I bought this same thing a few days ago but it has a colour display, blue panel, and a backlight I think.
It would've been cool if this had an E-ink screen to make it even smaller (if lith-poly cells can be made thinner) but this is fine too
amazing for tetris tetris lovers!! maybe you want to take a look to Gamebuino too, btw, you can DIY these devices with arduino uno/nano
This feels like a spiritual successor to the Game & Watch in some ways.
Oh, it's official too! I see the 'R' and the real font :P
Why is everybody complaining about the price? It's a cool, novelty gaming thing! I'd gladly pay $60 for it.
Mr. Creepz because it’s Tetris. Great game, one of my favorites, but you’re probably better off getting a Raspberry Pi Zero for $5. Granted you’ll have to buy a screen, button pcbs, battery and so on but it’ll probably end up being cheaper (and more fun because it’s fully programmable) than buying this product for $54.
Now u can buy this with a color screen for 16 bucks
This spring the new ones are going to be realeased with color screens. Also more games apart from tetris
Very cool, but a bit pricey for only one game.....great video Colin!!
nice video, and review, it's a pity it's out of stock
Great video but like most other people in the comments, I think it’s way to much. For only about 30$ more you can get a FreePlay Zero which is a raspberry pi zero in a GBA shell. It’s absolutely amazing and you can get tetris and whatever game you want since it runs retropie.
More like 100 more, Freeplay Zero kit is 100 not including shell, RPi or microSD.
Angultra your way off. It’s 90$ and you can get the Pi, 512 SD, and case for 15$ total if you don’t already have them. There is no way a complete freeplay zero would ever cost you 160$. Regardless though the Arduboy is way too expensive.
Does this version use srs?
(Super rotation system)
Does anyone know if it supports T-Spins and other spins?
it's now so hard to find these things :(
Is the battery replaceable? I’d like it more if it was thicker and took an AAA
They have a version with Pacman that costs 19.99 that looks exactly like this one only the motherboard and the aluminum back are blue instead of purple and it says "Pacman" on the right side of the console in gold letters. It's currently sold at Barns & Noble and that version uses a color screen so I'm trying to figure out why this costs 54.99?
It's kinda pitful that it costs that much. It is really cool tho, nice review.
The classic version does not have ghost blocks or hard drop
I have to say, it's tempting but super expensive for what it is!
I got one recently too. Whats your highest score?
Hah! Ironically, I just gave my sister one of my old Game Boy Advance SP's with an original GB Tetris, since she waxed nostalgic about playing it. Maybe (when these are back in stock) I'll get her one of these instead.
Can you turn off the ghosts?
Are there higher level starts?
Does it save highscores?
I saw (and bought) an even smaller Tetris, it was the size of a zippo lighter.
I managed to find mine for $40. I love it to death.
I found only new color version :( This old is awesome :(
It's a technical marval and niche I won't get for my collection. Musingly I play Tetris on my Canon Camera.
According to the product page, it says they were all sold out by last year!! Damn, I'm too late!!
Check out the "micro arcade Tetris" card. Same thing, way cheaper and better screen with colors.
Looks good... but can you do T Spins on it?
Yes, it follows the same spin rules as modern Tetris games.
Red5433 not only that but T spins were possible in classic tetris believe it or not. Granted they were much harder to do, but still possible. As well as some of the other modern day spins. Obviously some wouldn’t be possible, but a good few are.
I've always been big intro tetris but my gameboy suffices.
No option to change the music to the Sugar Plum Fairy? Sorry, that's a deal breaker for me 😂
If you guys are looking for a cheap one, go to amazon and just search it up cuz I found one for 18 dollars with free shipping!
Tetris ds is the best!
still more fun than the latest AAA release
I been into tetris for few years now, and because some people originally suggested it online as one of the best current versions, Puyo Puyo Tetris has become my go-to version. I've played it on PS3, Wii U, 3DS and now on the Switch. PS3 and Wii U are not portable, so 3DS version was my choice for long while, but the better screen and visibility of playfield makes switch the best version for me. Also, tetris almost benefits from joycon's weird non-Dpad. I have had several hour endless marathons and fierce high score and speed maximizing in 150 line marathon. To me this version lacks color, choice of modes and other stuff to make it worth 55usd, when puyo puyo tetris on switch costs the same or less. I can see the appeal of the minimalism and size, it is really cool device. It just also costs a little bit too much for a little bit too simple version of tetris, though granted, for hardware and screen it runs on it is as advanced as it can be; down to having ghost draw and hard drop in it with probably other current tetris guidelines.
SumeaBizarro 40 dollars is a bit much tho. I waited so long to get it on Black Friday. It was 25 dollars. Then it was released on PC for 20 a couple of months later.
cool design and build but a very limited market really.
I can only dream of owning one of these. Too expensive!
this would've been a cool gift to get someone if it weren't $54
I want it... but the price!
Hi Collin.
I love Tetris enough that the cost isn’t a deal breaker
Half the price and maybe.
_This ain't for no filthy casual._
aye vibe club I work at which wich
What about hold lol
Looks cool! *clicks links to buy “out of stock” fffffffuuuuuuuuu!!!
The arguino boy is cool but quite pricey
I would buy that for a dollar!!
It's a shame because it's neat little device. Too bad it's a bit too pricey for me.
What version of Tetris is running on that GBC?
EthanBB Tetris DX
EthanBB Tetris for GBC
On the same note, the Taobao backlit GBC looks so sweet.
Thanks for making these out of stock!! Jk nice video
maybe they should make it a tad smaller than a credit card, so you don't have to force it in/out of the wallet
hardcore commercial
If you remember the old "Keychain Tetris" games I sold the 150in1 units and still have a few left. someone seems to have remade the unit as a phone case for the iphone, they also made a standalone console which I have ordered 3 now off ebay and still have not received. I dont know if youve seen it or not. The reviews i have seen are terrible and obviously done by people who have no interest whatsoever in the console and are focused on just showing its function and nothing more.
It's a cool piece of hardware but 54 bucks is awfully expensive when Puyo Puyo Tetris can be had for 20 bucks on PC.
Why not make the screen larger? There would be enough space for that. This microscopic screen looks ridiculous.
Stupid price
Id like one but at 15 maybe
Damn... And I bought Tetris for the Switch...
The actual tetris brand made a color version that’s cheaper
How durable? Like it looks like you could safely stuff it in a credit card slot in a wallet.
I COULD BUY/MAKE A PC FOR THAT AMOUNT!
The 32-bit guy
I COULD BUY A HOUSE FOR THAT AMOUNT!
I found 1 online for 15$
Hey Colin! Do you think maybe you could do a video on describing in detail some of the hardware lingo you use?
Such as, “ghosting” or “tracing”
Stuff like that? Can’t remember all the words, so a collective of all or most of them in a video would be really cool 👍🏼
I’m obsessed with Tetris and will not be picking this up. My games last 10-20 minutes at least, and Tetris isn’t a game I’ll pickup when I have spare time, because of the time the games last for me. Tetris is the game I have when I want to put all of my attention into a game.
"I can't believe that Bryce prefers VanPatten's card to mine"
nobody watching this but its gone ;(
Who's watching this again after Tetris 99
Damn, out of stock.
Shut up and take my money
oh wow! it reminds me of old consoles
54 is way too high and almost same price as a aaa game.
I'm the 888th like!
Nah who cares.
And now the joys of the Soviet Union in Credit Card sized convenience. Approval has been sook. Come with me if you want to live.
The classic brick game is better IMO
Why do you always ask "how's it going?" but never give us time to respond?
I'm doing well.
dude thats worth no more than $15
expensive toys
Micro arcade's version is in colour..it's better..
And cheaper, it costs only USD$20, I just got one, and I really enjoy it!!
lmao 50 for tetris, no thanks
HAHAHAAHAHAH! $54 for a Tetris game with a screen that WILL burn in quickly? That's a bigger rip off than most mobile games.
60 dollars for something that's outperformed by free phone apps.
I'll be skipping this one.
Ryan Bigguy Free phone apps have touch screen controls don't they. Playing it on a phone is the worst way to experience Tetris. Just get it on a PC or console so you have something to press.
tactile is a must for tetris
Ryan Bigguy No physical buttons
Ryan Bigguy phone apps... Yeah, makes total sense to play tetris on a touch screen DUH
I know right? you can get a gameboy and a copy of tetris and you have the same thing for cheaper lmao.
It looks worse than the Gameboy version.
