Just add a solar recharging, a few more buttons, a thicker, more durable shell, and more support from software devs, and this could absolutely kill in markets where electricity, internet, and tv are rare. Or imagine distributing something like this in packages for refugee children, it would probably be a huge morale boost
Stumbled on this review (after getting an Arduboy as a present) and had to say: awesome work! Your video shots are amazing, looks (and sounds) like a BBC TV clip; way, way more professional than 99% of RUclips reviews. Plus you really covered the device well (didn’t know about Arduboy Manager) and fairly. Top work!
+TheGrackler thank you so much. I really do appreciate the kind words. I hope your Arduboy is still treating you well and really glad you found my channel. ✌️
Man you are one of the underrated channel ;) Good Content :D May your subscribers grow man ;)
Thank you! ✌🏻
Glad my Arduboy Manager helped you out! Great video, too!
+Jonathan Holmes thank you for making such an awesome tool for an awesome piece of kit!
I'd recommend turning down the background music for the next one :) That GB is the most amazing thing I've seen in awhile
Watching this in 2020 and it's still very helpful.
Thank you!
nice review, I really want this little dude.
Great review!
damn, nentindo needs to get on this sh*t, like a game and watch classic the size of your credit card, and add music.
"tetris clone"... that's a Puyo Puyo clone
I've actually never played Puyo Puyo!
@@DamienWilde me neither
(edit: now I have and its awesome)
Everything's coming up milhouse, this shit looks dope.
+MetaTaylor 🙏 means a lot mate thank you
Does it have a tetris for it ? Or the original one ?
Thinking about picking one if these up this payday, the price is a little high... But it'll be worth it.
It's money well spent!
there’s an arduboy core on Mister FPGA. Quick and free way to try out the games if you have one. Feels like playing a black an white Atari 2600 on a monitor :P
What's the background music?
how do i know if my arduboy is original?
Is it compatible with Apple / OSX?
what music did you use
superb design
Where could you ge tone
Holy crap, is that you, JoeyPockett??
Great video
The Arduboy screen isn't backlit, it's an OLED panel.
does it have rpg style games like earthbound.
Not really, it can't really play full games because the games are limited to 32kb. It can't even play Game Boy games.
Can you play Pokémon blue and red?
Your placement of Blue before Red is extremely unsettling to me. You're not to be trusted.
👏
No, it can't play GameBoy games because it's far less powerful than a GameBoy.
For a second I tought you got No.1 ....serial no1
i thought so too, that would be insane
umm the gameboy micro was pretty small and it played gba games sooooo yeah
Cool story. Now program software on it and then put in a wallet.
if you got a flashcart you can use homebrew
It is 60$
The Arduboy's capabilities are so much less than a GameBoy that nobody would have wanted an Arduboy 30 years ago. It wouldn't have been able to compete in the handheld game console market of the late 1980s. You can't have much retro nostalgia with an Arduboy, because it can't play any retro games the way you used to play them. Unless you count Pong, and maybe Asteroids.
Maybe if they had given it even half the RAM of the 1989 GameBoy, and a screen that could display 4 shades of grey like the GameBoy, and enough storage to hold a GameBoy game file, and as many buttons as a GameBoy, then maybe you could have as much fun with an Arduboy as you can have with a GameBoy from 1989. But they didn't.
But even if they did give it all that, it still has no dedicated sound channels so there won't be much music or sound effects. And no hardware sprites, so the CPU will have to make up for that. And it has no VRAM like the GameBoy, so the tiny amount of RAM it does have will need to be shared with the screen.
You can get a used GameBoy for $10.
This is not a gameboy clone btw
Nope. It's actually a "learning to code" device.
@@basicallyskeptical77 what do u mean by learning to code device
@@dimepia123 You can make the game you play on here. That's the point of it. Not just a gaming device.
@@basicallyskeptical77 thats awesome, thanks
@@dimepia123 Ya. But if you understand even basic coding it will not be very useful. Unless you do just what it for games.
lol, console quality graphics in our pockets!
It's not even the quality of an Atari 5200 from 1982. The Atari has more RAM than the Arduboy, and can handle more sprites, and more sound channels. And it has color.
@The programming crypto guy - I said Atari 5200, and I was correct. The 5200 was released 39 years ago and is more powerful than the Arduboy.
Did you know? This is the first device ever to justify micro USB.
It's a superb little pocket gaming companion
But it doesn't really justify it. You can't load a game onto the Arduboy without plugging it into a computer or mobile device, either of which can run free Arduboy emulators. So the Arduboy doesn't do anything at all, unless you already have another device that does what the Arduboy does but better.
If only it played NES ganes
It can't even play certain Atari games
specs are better than op3t
*sarcasm*
The background music is pretty annoying and omnipresent
