Gameboys are cool but they're sooooo big/cumbersome. If only there was something even smaller I could carry around... Luckily, Anthony is here to check out the Arduboy FX and Arduboy Mini which are two compact handhelds with over 200/300 games loaded onto it. Is this actually a viable gaming experience or is there a reason most handhelds are bigger?

I would love more videos like this! Anything that involves openness, community, and ingenuity always fascinates me. Things like indie games, custom built keyboard, or crowd sourced and open sourced tinker-able devices like this.
I think a lot of seasoned programmers and engineers had a leg up by growing up around simpler tinker-able devices being the norm, whereas many of us today
need to go out of our way to have a similar experience.

The communities that have sprung up in the maker space are brilliant, and it just brings me joy to see tech that invites you to kinda choose your own adventure.
I haven't had this much fun since I was a kid dissecting computers for parts. Things are just so much more accessible now.

The RP2040 is a great chip, and quite inexpensive. A little bit of work, one could easily make a better 32 bit "mini game boy".
People have gotten DOOM to run on a Pi Pico. There's a dozen or more 3rd party boards using the RP2040 chip. Some with built in displays and buttons.
The RP2040 also can do CD quality i2s audio. It can do a LOT with it's programmable i/o. VGA, HDMI...
(not a paid shill, I just love the RP2040, I have a 10 picos, they are $4 each, and a Pi 3B and a Odroid, I'm with ya on Raspberry Pi stuff)

It kind of reminds me about the mactini - the apple advert parody, very funny. Also there is one little thing that kind of popped out to me, for the mini version must be in some kind of encloser as I thin the bear contacts will be a perfect ground for collection of skin oil which are fairly conductive, so the thing can be killed by just handling it.

Extremely similar to the Arduboy mini which is kind of funny given that I didn't even know it existed. Same display, 16mb of flash, but it's running on an RP2040 instead of an ATMega microcontroller.
