😂😂

As an old grease-monkey, I have a few old scissor jacks just kicking around. I have just built my new woodwork shop, and your video has given me a lot of ideas as to how to put them to use.
This is one of those projects you have to measure, time, and cost vs. buying some clamps. I’ll go with buying clamps. Especially the pipe clamps. They are cheap enough.
Oh dear...
I inherited several pipe clamps from my father-in-law. Nice little project, but nothing I need.
I love saving my time and skipping to the end to see what it's for.
I was looking up diy lawn mower jacks and I thought this was the video I needed 🤦🏿♂️ went to the end and saved my 8 minutes.
Yeah, I watched the whole video only to find out at the end that I actually wasn't making a jungle gym! At least now I have a clever board-gluer-drying-clamp thingy like I never imagined I would ever own!
And here i am still stranded on the side of the highway trying to figure out how to use this thing...
I wish I had done that first.
@@SeeGee70 , Only to find out you have to take it completely apart to jack up your car to change the tire.
The worst part is that I threw away the tire iron, thinking I didn't need it because the video didn't show it being used.
Be a Bro, and call a tow truck, if you don't mind.....thanks.
Thats impressive. That jack can be used for so many purposes. Its a simple expansion design but can carry a lot of weight and pressure. I do own one and I put it to many uses except for raising my vehicles :-)

So much work to make a simple clamp. Lol
Seen this done it's so easy! Congratulations! Brilliant!

That doesn’t look like an old car jack. It looks like the one Harbor Freight sells.
Believe it or not, that's exactly what I had in mind. It's great to see it come to fruition here.
Great imagination for use of an old car jack. You kept us waiting until the end so see what was the end project. Good job!
Ok😊

Good idea for those who work with wood projects.

I made a shoulder vise with one of those jacks a couple years ago, works great!
Thanks for the comment and watching our video!
In stead of 50 hours making that, you can buy clamps already made for $12.00. They work great!
LOL, Right
50 hours? Video was about re using an old jack, right?
About as useful as a three legged stool.
Literal lol. Danka
@@jethrom8702 had you said two legged stool I might have agreed with you but three legged stools are very useful as they are inherently stable.
I swapped out 2 wheels on my tool cabinet (replaced fixed with swivel), I used my 2 car jacks to elevate the cabinet, worked great. On another occasion I tried to use a car Jack to pull out some deep roots from a stump near a concrete base, but didn’t work. So yes you can use a car Jack for somethings and not for other things lol
If you wish to use a jack to lift up roots, I use a farm jack. But even that has its limitations. Great for up to 3" diameter 'saplings' provided... you have a good base to set it on, have the jack secured to a secure larger tree or even a vehicle with a chain (& possibly another person to pull or push back keeping it upright when it begins to shift and you're still jacking..) Many Tap roots, as on the sumac, go straight down and the older the tree, the thicker & deeper it goes so it's best to take out asap. Otherwise they may snap in two, and you may need to repeat in a few years. I once experimented using an engine lift with a wench. Again, a 2' or so sapling, ok. Wench could not handle bigger ones better than the farm jack. Maybe a heavier wench?
I think buying two or three Jorgensen clamps would be much easier. Nice assembly
You get a much wider clamping area with this compared to jorgensens and its cheaper by far to make than 3 decent clamps of similar force capacity.
@@shadowbanned5164 House is much wider you’re fixed with this thing versus Jorgensen‘s can go across a huge span. I’ll stick with Jorgensen‘s much more flexible.
@@shadowbanned5164 you are limited by the distance that the jack's bearing surface can travel along it's drive screw. A pipe clamp is only limited by the length of pipe. I keep several different lengths of pipe clamp pipes in my shop.
@@jungleno. You dont need a lot of clamping movement with this set up you can make it as long as you like thats what all the holes are for the end is adjustable you have all those pipe clamps this setup will do the work of all of them
Beautiful project .
GREAT JOB .
That's a good technique. I like it too much!
As a pipefitter I take my Jack weld a plate on the top and use it as a flange alignment tool you put the flange on the pipe put the Jack inside jack it out and it perfectly takes the hi-lo out of the flange plus holds it up while you tack it!
I just had 2 bongs and I understood you . before that ....
Legal, muito criativo, didático e funcional.
Ideia genial parabéns
I made a chess board a few years ago, and all those clamps were a pain...your idea is awesome!!
The winters are very long for this guy ............... 8 minutes of life wasted serves as a lesson to us all. At least he doesn't talk or live next door. It makes watching paint dry seem an attractive hobby.

good build thanks for sharing
Wow...a lot of camera angles. As much work goes into the filming and editing as the actual work itself.
This guy really knows how to make a video! Thanks, Men's Craft
It would be a good idea to show what you're trying to achieve at the beginning to avoid us wasting time.
Yeah I just skipped to the end to see what it was going to be, wasn't arsed in the building of it.

Stfu, ur comment was a waste of time!
Love the idea and execution
Innovative, nifty, pretty cool even. But brilliant!
I used a jack like that to free a child that got his head stuck in some railings.
Cool tool ! 😎👍
Brilliant Idea is a gross overstatement !
Thanks, I make a lot of cutting boards so I can use this tool. By the way I find I learn by watching your videos and don't make as much mistakes where I do things out of order, and then have to re-do stuff at times. So thanks for that too.
I think the way to evaluate this is to think of the final product as a special jig, to be used where there is a lot of repetitive work producing wide boards. But if it's for casual use, I would agree with a lot of the comments that there are perfectly ordinary ways to accomplish the same thing using conventional general purpose tools. This avoids the need to store a rather bulky jig and avoids having to wreck a perfectly good jack.
In particular I agree with BeachSideHank that there is a danger of what I would call buckling, and what he calls cupping ? This happened to me decades ago when building a two piece top in oak for a refectory table in the old style. They did buckle, but for some unknown reason over period of months relaxed and the table top came flat.
Oi Herra
I like it and I think I will use your design to make one for my own shop. Great job!!!
VERY GOOD THINKING. I WILL MAKE THESE JACK CLAMPS FOR MY FUTURE GLUEING. THANKYOU FOR THE VEDEO.

Thank very much. Very creative. Bless you.
ANOTHER DAMNED COOL CONTRAPTION!
Incredible...to anyone who has never seen a pipe clamp.
Exactly!
Buying long clamps would be a lot easier.
My very first thought when I saw the video LOL
Brilliant! I didn't know what you where making but wow you sure think outside the box. WAY outside the box. Good job.
I hate it when another guy is as good on the tools as myself!!! I have to admit, the Dude has some serious talent!!!
Amazing...Im using a power drill for that jack now whenever I need to change a tire.
Welcome to the party!
Your drill better be the plug in drill; ain't raising an average size car up off the ground with a 20Amp Cordless drill
@@JoeSmith-ev2bg I use special grease! LOL. I have a floor jack for my truck. I get a lot of use out of the one with my drill if you need to take a wheel off or get a jack stand in.
Clever idea but what about addressing upwards or bowing of the boards being glued when compressed.
It's 5 ply, contained with a lot of clamps.
Could place a weight of some kind on top
No-brainer - just apply flat weight.
Use biscuits

I have used a pair of scissor Jack's to set as many as five upper cabinets at a time. Worked perfect. Have had it many years.

It is videos like these that answer the question “how did I waste so many precious hours of my life watching useless videos on RUclips. I always think it’s going to be some amazing tool and then it ends up being an hour or more worth of work to make a basic custom wood clamp out of a car jack. 😑
Thanks ! I just headed right to the comments.
You can always fast forward. Same result, less time wasted
Thanks dude you saved my time.
I just fast forward it to the end.
I'm a carpenter and know how hard it is to clamp stuff together especially if you've not got a big workshop and good quality clamps. This is a great and cheap option.
I suppose it had to happen eventually, an actual, good, practical idea from one of these sort of videos!

I like the idea of using a power driver to tighten the device...
You need to be careful though with the driver, the over excitement could send those panels flying. Sometimes I need to lift my heavy bed to place sliders underneath and that 600lbs bed corner can be lifted using this jack while tightening with fingers.
Great job 👏👏👏

When glueing planks together to form a board I use two lengths of cord to hold the planks tightly in place with each other and prevent them from bowing by weights on two strips of wood resting perpendicular on the glued planks.

I feel like ive just been robbed of 😳I'll never get that time spent watching this video back.. don't be like, save yourself. Run away
Same thing here. I kept skipping forwards every 10 seconds. In the end, it's a lot of effort and time wasted when you can simply buy super long clamps. Not worth the time and materials.
Play vids at 2x speed. Shortens the agony.
That's why I see comments first.
I legit have everything i need to make this already, but no money to buy a longer clamp. This video is super helpful
Some of the comments here are plain ridiculous and missing the point completely. If you don't like it, jog on. It's not about being easy to just buy bar clamps and saving the hassle of making this. It's actually, believe it or not, about MAKING this! Everyone has wood lying about doing nothing and most probably many have a spare jack lying about too so why not spend a wee bit of time making something for free instead of being a lazy, moaning bastard with no imagination?
