This is one of the best martial art videos on RUclips because it is practical and there’s not a lot of boring to walk and useful. Definitely subscribing to this channel
just a little tip for o-goshi and seoi: stand with your feet parallel to each other and tiptoe. for the osoto-gari: the tip of your toe should slightly touch the ground when you sweep; you're standing diagonally to the "opponent", that causes your thigh to touch his leg, which shouldn't happen (not like that); try to stand in front of him, take a step to his side and sweep only with your calf and foot. hope that helps you out and sorry if it's annoying.
It’s that really 90 lbs sensei? You throw it around like it’s filled with feathers! Some people question the value of getting grappling dummies, but they’re really useful if you know how to work them and what your objectives are. And you certainly show that in your tutorials. Thanks!🙏🏼
It took me a while to get to this level. When I first got it, it was the heaviest thing I ever trained with. Just pure dead weight. Overtime you become stronger
@idrisskolei I do have a 90 pounder like sensei and he is right in that as you keep at it and improve on your technique it gets better. It’s also a good resistance workout with that weight. But sure you can return it and perhaps get a lighter grappling dummy. Whatever works best for you, just keep training! 😄
I can only imagine how tired I’d be if I had to pick that dummy up over and over again throughout my workout. Imagine it’s like performing a deadlift over and over
@@haffoc yes when I first got my dummy I totally overlooked this detail about having to pick it up and lug it around to store it haha. But my body adapted how to easily handle it, it took about 6 months I’d say.
Some good techniques there. Bit of polite advice, although your de ashi bari is effective on your dummy it appears to be more like a prop as you aren’t sweeping and appear to be lifting. De Ashi Barai is “Sweeping the advancing foot” in English, difficult to do on a dummy with square feet. I would suggest that your technique was more okuri ashi barai or perhaps a Sasae tsuri Komi ashi. Whichever it is however it was a well executed technique. Nicely done!

HI Jason, What is your drill for each technique , how many repetitions do you do in one session. I can imagine how tiresome can it be to pick the dummy up and continue with the same technique
I will usually do a specific throw for 5-10 repetitions, and move on to the next throw. The throws I always work on are OGOSHI, IPPON SEOI NAGE, HANE GOSHI, OSOTO GARI, TAI OTOSHI, AND KOSHI GURUMA

Did this dummy rip in half on you yet? I have had three of them rip in half on me now from training throws. Always 4-5 months in. I try reinforcing them with tape and ties. Can’t avoid it. They just can’t hold up to the torque. I always used the 120 pound ones though. Anyway it’s nice to see someone else hitting throws on them. That Tai Otoshi is not easy on the heavier ones.
@@SENSEIJASON I tried century yah. I think it was the weight though. The extra 30+ pounds of dead weight was too much for the stitching. It was probably overkill. I’ll drop the weight if I get another one. Loved training with them.
I’m sure the training it it gave you was very valuable. And at the end of the day, we are supposed to smash the dummies. They served their purpose, but unfortunately it can be costly to replace. Yes I think 90lbs is the sweet spot for the next purchase.

Tai ochi
Kochi gari

If I am grabbed from my clothes so hard and I cant get rid of it I would fight with judo
If my enemie was standing in a very long range I would use kumite to punch him and then I can sweep his leg or kicking him with a ko mawashi geri
