My kitchen remodel was the worst yet, everything in that kitchen was deep fried. I bought 5 of the leading cleaners and ran my own tests. Krud Kutter won over all of them, even mag wheel cleaner. Wash with same , use wood kabob sticks and rag to get nooks, final quick sand and you are ready for primer.

Did you have any bleeding through the paint?

MJ M bleeding through = you didn't use a good enough primer and/or too thin of coats...multiple coats, two SHOULD be enough but depends on how well you do the job.

What should I do if stains appear after painting?

I would try some Kilz to block any stains; then repaint
