Released on September 13th, 2017 as a Bell Media original documentary on CTV, the Tragically Hip went on one final cross-country tour in 2016 before they heard some bad news about their lead singer and Canadian frontman, Gord Downie, who was diagnosed with brain cancer.
LONG LIVE GORD. LONG LIVE THE HIP.🤟
A day hardly goes by without a hip song in it.
Yes, he and his band were a Canadian icon. 🇨🇦
FUCK CANCER !
LONG LIVE THE HIP !!!
No flamboyance. No pyrotechnics. No feuds. No drama between these five. Just the words. And the music. That is what will be remembered. That is what moved us all.
only in Canada does an entire country take a break to say "Thanks" to a rock band.
Greetings Hip family from Australia. About three weeks ago I walked into my local bottleshop and the guy in there (a Canadian) was playing these guys. I asked him what the hell is this awesome noise. He told me about the Hip. I went away and smashed it at home for a week. It was all I played. I had no idea. I went in there a week later and told him thank you so much for the recommend. He suggested this documentary. He didn't warn me that I would be crying the whole time. Another tick from Canada, you guys fucking rock!
I hate that it took this documentary for me to learn about this beautiful man and band, but I’m forever grateful for being introduced. From a relatively new fan from south of the border, I feel for Canada, this band is truly special.
At least you got in to the band. They were pretty awesome weren't they??
@@stephenmiller2337 honestly can’t get enough of them. Fiddlers Green May be the most beautiful song ever written.
@@ryandotson5373 if you love Fiddler's green, you'll really love Scared from Day for Night
Hey Ryan,
welcome to the family, brotber!!!!!!
Fan since 92. After Gord's extended rant on one of their tunes I was smitten. Favorite band ever. Seriously.
I was blessed to se them at edgefest dallas and a few shows of tours after that. Got to meet Gord. Sweetest man. So mellow.
Gord is my girlfriends uncle. Words can not describe who he was...or what he meant to his family and friends ❤️
Watching this as a 23 year old American living in Las Vegas who has never been to Canada and probably has seen snow three times ever in my life. I didn’t even know who the Hip were or really anything about them when Gord died, and that’s such a shame because now I’d do anything to have seen them. I only began to listen to them earlier this year, trying to find new artists to listen to. I came across the Hip and I was kind of interested in them as a band basically really only huge in Canada and practically unknown everywhere else, and I wondered why, honestly.
What more can I say? Not only were they an incredible band with incredible songs, Gord was truly one of the most underrated songwriters and lyricists I’ve listened to and him and the Hip both deserve far more credit internationally than what they’ve ever received. He’s become an inspiration of mine not only for his art and how it has influenced me personally, but for his drive and passion for justice in bringing light to historical atrocities that I might not have otherwise known much about, living in the US. Thank you Gord, and thank you to the Tragically Hip for staying true to yourselves no matter what and for the incredible music… maybe someday I’ll take a road trip up north and blast some Hip along the way, seeing Canada for myself.
Your welcome anytime neibour!
Towards the end of the doc he says "people sit around the campfire and play our tunes all over the country." Wrong...all over the world. We play The Hip around campfires here in the good ole USA! Power of the Hip is beyond borders...!!
I know I'm not the only American fan....but I've always felt like the biggest American fan. Gord is one of the most beautiful souls I've ever had the fortune of seeing and hearing in person. I was so sad I couldn't make a show on the last tour. Gord, you've spoken to me so many times in my life. You've brought me so much love, peace, and the sadness I feel thinking you're gone feels unmeasurable. Gord and The Hip will live on forever in each and everyone of us. RIP
Purple is only for Kings. That hat was apropos
I cherish those days, those road trips, those concerts, those screams along the way. Hey Gord, Thanks.
JAMES SCOTT NICHOLSON,ONTARIO, CANADA 🇨🇦. I WATCHED YOU GUYS DEBUT, AT FORT ERIE FRIENDSHIP FESTAL, MY BRO CRAIG KRI INTRODUCED US ALL AS HE JUST COME BACK FROM VANCOUVER. 50 OF US ON A BEAUTIFUL SATURDAY, NOTHING TO DO, UNTIL THAT CONCERT WAS ANNOUNCED. I HAVE ONLY GROWN TO LOVE AND RESPECT ✊ YOU, WITH EVERY DAY.
ALSO AS A GUITARIST, ALL THE GREATS WERE COVERED IN MY TOWN. ME AND MY FRIEND (GUITARIST) HAD YOU GUYS AND GUNS AND ROSES 🥀 DEBUT IN OUR EARLY TEENS. LITTLE BONES WAS JUST OUT, AND WE ROCKED OUR TOWN WITH IT, AS YOU HAD JUST EXPLODED CANADA 🇨🇦 WIDE. I COULD NEVER THANK ALL OF YOU , FOR BEING THE SOUNDTRACK TO MY LIFE, SINCE THE FIRST SONG, STILL TILL THIS DAY, AND WHEN I GET TO MEET GORD. ORIGINAL THE BEST, I THINK 🤔 EVEN RUSH AGREES....♥️♥️✌️🙏🌍☮️🙏♌️2🖐🦁🎸🎤✍️📝🎶📖🇨🇦 R.I.P. GORD R.I.P. (ROCK IN PARADISE)
I’m headed to the cabin with the family in a few days and I GUARANTEE I’ll be playing some Hip. The humility in Gord.. there’s a guy to emulate 👊
To emulate? Yes, yes, yes.
I saw them on their final goodbye tour. You could see the emotions on the fans' faces that night! What a beautiful man, RIP Gord ❤ 🎸 🇨🇦
At that time as a trucker I hoped that entire week everything would fall in place; Rotterdam to Kingston to NC to Jersey to Saint John. Everything had to be on time so I could arrive home for our local screening of the final concert. I made it with just hours to spare and enjoyed it with my daughter who is also a huge fan.
On Monday as I travelled down though the states again a sat radio talk show from NYC was calling it the day Canada was closed ha ha. Incredible last show by an incredible band. Pretty good doc too ;-)
When he kisses his band mates before going on stage, telling them he loves them, I completely lost it. Sobbing like a child. Beautiful documentary about such an amazing group of people who will always hold a special place in my heart and soul.
Same for me !!!
It was easily one of the most heart-wrenching moments of my life, I was inconsolable.
The man went out with honour and integrity.
This is how you live eternally…
In everyone’s memory of a great thing.
I love your comment ❤
I was listening to a sports radio station here in Dallas... Daryl razor Reaugh mentioned this band and on a gut feeling I had I felt it necessary to give these guys a listen and I've been hooked.
Im born and raised in Dallas and was named after Gord
I'm not Canadian, but a Buffalonian. This epic tribute to Gord resonates so much. It makes me want to live to the fullest. So consoled that I got a ticket to Hamilton on the last tour.
In FLA now, was in BUFF in the 90s
I'd seen The Hip many times before seeing Gord on that final tour. It was gut wrenching; and life affirming. I think that's what he wanted it to be.
Absolutely agre.
Will always return here until I go to that next place.
Armed with will and determination, and grace, too..... ❤️
American fan here, gotta say I really love this band, a Canadian gem! Thanks Canada for producing some of my favorite music and artists. Watching this for the 4th time in the last week. RIP Gord💙
A proud Canadian icon that he and his band have been.
I still cry anytime i hear any of the Grace Too versions from this tour. ❤ Love them all !!
Thank you for posting this. I think everyone should have access to this for free. Everyone should learn about the hip and gordie
Anytime, and yes you can access this anytime you would like. This is still available if you want to reminisce about the very best of The Tragically Hip.
It was sobering when my favourite band came to an end when I was 37 years old. Such a stark reminder of mortality. But also strange, because many others get to have their favourite band around much longer. THE band of my youth was gone, forever. My sister's favourite band. And that of so many people our age in Canada.
I love you, Gord.
Today, I needed a reminder of how beautiful humanity can be. Thankful that Gord and The Hip could provide it.
The Hip is in my top two favorite bands. I have followed them since I first heard them in the US on Canadian radio. I'm now almost 56 and my 15 year old son is a huge Hip fan I'm proud to say. Just sad that he never got to see them......
Not enough people know about Gord and the Hip and how truly great they were! this video will have 50 million views one day!!
I went to their concert in Edmonton, Alberta and the energy being in the crowd was so strong with love, happiness and sadnesses. I remember looking around and seeing people dancing to the music with tears in their eyes knowing this is the last time….
This is one documentary that we'll never forget! The Hip was one of Canada's greats! 🇨🇦🎤🎸🎸🎸🥁📻
Saw the hip 20 times, 15 of those before 1993. Got to meet the band, and when I was playing in Kingston ended up at the studio in Bath. Life got busy and I couldn't get to as many shows as I wanted. Still imo one of the best live acts of their era.
The heart of Canada. It's like no time passed at all, that's how powerful of a last memory, and tour this was. Forever in our hearts, we are with you gordo. You landed the balloon, and it was glorious, we all cheered. -Love
Was not too familiar The Hip but what a great documentary. A great Canadian band who spoke to all Canadians. Long live the legacy of The Tragically Hip! RIP Gord Downie.
A total Canadian cathartic experience if there ever was one
Absolutely was. It felt like the entire country came to a halt and came together on that last night in Kingston. Still gives me chills to think about . I hate that Gord isn't here anymore, it's so unfair.
I'm so glad I got to spend 10.minutes with him .just us ...talking ...that night in Detroit will always be with me
The Hip meant so much to me.
Me, too.
I was SO lucky to have seen the Hip on the last tour, (the London, Ontario show). It was absolutely the most emotional concert I've ever been to.
Driving up north , playing hockey, going fishing. The way a Canadian can relate to the hip is unparalleled.
Long live Gord!!!! ❤️❤️
Thanks, have seen it 8-9 times. Just need to watch every now and then.
I watch this once a year around this time. It’s an incredible work that really captures what was happening in this country during that time period, but also sheds so much more light on what was happening. Cheers, Gord.

Thank You "The Tragically Hip"
My mom, grandpa and I watched this on the day it aired. We all balled our eyes out especially my mom who was a huge fan of them. Rip Gord Downie, we will never forget you and will always love you
I remember sitting alone, as always, in a theatre watching the final show that was broadcast live coast to coast.
Last time I saw them was Another Roadside Attraction over 2 decades earlier.
Don't know the band..or the music...but I think I love their fans...
I’m not much of a fan of these guys. But watching the his documentary has made me respect these guy a lot more now then I use to and how much they mean to us Canadians.
I love you and miss you.. you did so much.. for us indains. ... love you
Here to watch this every year on this date, thanks for the upload...
My brother heard New Orleans is sinking on a VA radio station in 1990. That's all it took for me. Getting to meet them is maybe the high point of my life. I'm nobody and they treated me like somebody. They were so nice. I told Gord when i shook his hand, "well i can die now" and he said "no, dont do that" was definitely an exchange I will never forget.
did you see Gord in the trailer park boys. he was eating a bologna sandwich and even played a cop. lol.ruclips.net/video/agVKKbOOIBU/видео.html&pp=ygUdZ29yZCBkb3duaWUgdHJhaWxlciBwYXJrIGJveXM%3D
That song's from the 1989 album titled: "Up To Here".
What a legend. Thank you Gord
The Hip meant a great deal to me and my friends. Very sad how it ended. RIP Gord!!!
Saw this a couple times when it came out, and that was it. I can watch a few snippets, but I can't sit through the whole thing again. It's too hard to take without being moved to tears. 😢
Still makes me well up. Thanks guys for the soundtrack of my young life!
Sail on Gordie!
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Love you Gord. Love the hip.
Thank you for this xx
probably the greatest thing to come from canada ever.
I am happy he made a book
23:03 : "A face so full of meaning, as to almost make it glow" 💜💜💜
"For a good life we just might have to weaken" That's from "It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken" from the 2002 album "In Violet Light".
Thank god just like my father he didn't have to deal with COVID
I thought the exact same about my father.
This thought came to my mind while watching, as well! One silver lining
Thank you for the video. So emotional.
Gord will be in the hearts of myself and my children for eternity..
I can’t believe this video has only 50k views.
Thank you for posting this!
LOVE 💞💞💞💞❣
"There's this F√ckin' Band you Gotta See".....Forever Grateful that the Hip came to western New York frequently back in the day. To this day I pimp them out to anyone that will listen. It amazes me with all that talent how many people never heard of Them. Hopefully there's more in the vault cuz the Road Apple scraps are quite a tasty treat!!
❤️RIP Gord❤️ Hip Forever
I watch it once.. I ant bring myself to watch it again. The finality of life is bettersweet thought to hold and balance.. so sad
We miss the hip!
What's the point of living when you can't live forever? If there was ever someone who needed to be alive forever and sing and tell stories and represent Canada it was Gord.
Really miss you, Gord
We miss you Gord
They pulled it off. Gord pulled it off. I'm still in shock. What a summer...

Crying now
Bawled through it all. But not in a bad way. That was so amazing.
Thank You, Gord 😇
Two of the best rock lyricists were Bon Scott and Gord Downie.
I have terminal Melanoma and I haven't made any impact on this earth like Gord did.
Your still special
