In 2018 my wife was sick with the flu so she stayed home from Mass. I decided last minute to go to the TLM about 30 minutes from our house. It blew me away. I was on the parish council at my NO parish, I ran the children's liturgy, was an usher and in the KofC and my wife was a lector and EM; but after one time at the TLM I wanted to switch. My wife didn't even want to try it. A few months later my birthday and father's day were 4 weeks apart and I said all I want for both is to go to the TLM for those 4 weeks. After that 4 week stint in the TLM my wife was hooked and my kids loved it. We resigned our positions at the NO parish and haven't been back since. 2 of my kids have never known the NO and one can barely remember it. I do feel robbed of the TLM. Why did I not have this growing up. I learned more from the TLM in 6 months than I did in 8 years of Catholic school. I believe if I was raised in the TLM I wouldn't be the only one of my siblings still practicing the faith.
HOWEVER, God is bigger than our petty differences. Many good and Holy Priests and Bishops I have served for had NO problem with the Novus Ordo. In Heaven God will not ask which Mass we attended. Did you love ME and your neighbour?
I too recently started going to Latin Mass on some week days, first Fridays and first Saturdays.... The first experience of the Latin Mass filled me with so much grace that I burst into tears. I didn't understand most of it, however, I was in awe with the members reverence towards the Mass, their humbleness in their clothing, women with veil, their silence, and above all their focus towards Jesus alone... I felt so much at peace.... I love Latin Mass.... I hope the same reverence and the other goodnesses spread to the Novus Ordo Mass too....especially when receiving the Blessed Sacrament...kneeling and receiving Jesus on the tongue with joined hands.
We began attending the Latin Mass when the churches reopened after Covid. This was due to being discouraged from receiving on the tongue at our NO parish. The Latin Mass has changed our lives, as a mother of 5 with an agnostic husband, this is what our children need. It feeds them in a way that I can not. It provides so much devotion and reverence. Thank y’all for sharing your experience, mine was very similar. I was lost at Mass but began learning quickly when we were given the opportunity to attend daily Mass. Those Low Masses changed everything, our boys learned all the responses to the Mass as did I. All of my children enjoy the Mass, and the community is wonderful.
This is excellent. I am a Catholic priest from Tucson. Your thoughts resonate with my own. I am convinced that, as Pope Benedict emphasized in his magisterium, both forms of the Roman rite can mutually enrich each other. Indeed combining the old and the new is what Christ Jesus says in the Gospel According to St Matthew. That is what I seek to do when I celebrate the Novus Ordo. If communion rails were once again placed in our churches and communion while kneeling were not forbidden or highly discouraged by many bishops, the church would quickly heal and the tepidity of many would become a fervor for things Holy. The traditional Latin has made me love the holy mass more deeply; and thereby understand the mystery of my priesthood; what Christ expects of me. Thank for what you are doing; your wholesome and balanced presentation. May God bless both of you and your children!-- Fr Gonzales
I am a Maltese catholic lady who lives in York UK. It was great to hear talking about the beauty of Latin Mass. We are utterly blessed because we have Latin Mass every day early +( English Massses)and every Sunday 12noon which is amazing and filled with loads of familys and wonderful to see all the children enjoying Mass toox
I am so happy for you that you have experienced the most beautiful mass of the ages. I don't know if you know of some videos out there that are called the mass of the ages. You might want to look into them, it gives you great insight on what a traditional Latin mass is all about. God bless you both and your beautiful family. We need more of this content, so people can truly experience heaven on Earth.
I loved the Latin Mass all my life. I’m 80yr but there is no Latin Mass where I live I pray and hopefully will find one on RUclips some day. I just fractured my back so am limited to travel. Blessings and prayers for you and your family
We went to our first TLM in September 2020 thanks to Dr. Taylor Marshall mentioning it in one of his videos. We instantly fell in love with it! We began going full time when Motu Propio came out. We have never been so devoted as a family as we are now. We pray the Rosary every day, we bless before meals, we read the Bible and we homeschool and are open to life (currently expecting out 6th child). TLM has radically changed our spiritual life and faith. We are so grateful to the Lord that we have an FSSP Parish only 30 mins away. It has been an incredible gift! Plus, our children have learned to sit still, be quiet and pay attention. The reverence that is shown by all, especially the young children have helped our children also understand the importance of being reverent and truly believing in the real Presence. Praise God for this beautiful liturgy! Thank you for sharing your experience, Yasinskis! God bless you.
I was raised with the Latin Mass and all I remember was the communion. I would kneel at the alter and receive the host. I remember having the missal at every mass of course it was all in Latin and I used that until the Pope came out and changed the liturgy into the language of the people in whose. country. the mass would be celebrated. I kept that missal for over thirty years and now I am trying to find it again. Thank you for your sharing of your love for TLM. 😊Hope
I do want to go to a Latin Mass. we live very rural and it’s 1 1/2 hours to the closest Latin Mass. the Kneeling for communion, the quietness and reflection when you walk into the church, the music, I can almost feel the Holy Spirit just talking about it! 🙏
During Covid, my parish closed the doors and I was so lucky to have found the TLM. Upon entering, I knew I was home. The altar was ready for the Mass and it took me back to when I was a child, I had forgotten how special it was. As soon as the Mass started with the sacred music, I was in heaven! There is no words to describe how holy and beautiful this experience is! You just have to go and see for yourself! If I have to attend the N.O. Mass now it's painful. I feel like I am in a classroom, or a meeting.
I have been Catholic for about 18 years but never found my niche - not my comfort level. I am disabled and home-bound, off and on, so of course it was hard to find my place - especially since Catholics tend to travel in families and are not welcoming to an older senior woman without family. ALSO, I noticed that I was often the ONLY person dressed modestly and carefully - while everyone else seemed to be in blue jeans and several women were dressed immodestly, with shoulders bare and low-cut blouses. I missed the feeling of gravitas, RESPECT, worship. Suddenly I realized that because I love the sound of Latin and Gregorian Chant, I realized I should try out the Latin Mass. There is only ONE parish church in my town that has a Latin Mass....but they are conducted almost every day around noon. Perfect for me, really. I am working up to going. I am also chanting the Angelus 3 times a day, in Latin, here at home. I can't wait to go to the TLM. To prepare myself, I've bought a couple books. I"ll be going soon, but probably not before having a meeting with someone over there and getting some help with access for my disabilities.
Blessings in The Divine Will ❤️ Once again I thank God for having ya'll in my life! I've been praying SO MUCH for the TRUTH that is "hidden behind the curtain" about the Catholic Church! More to say...I would really like to know how it was before Vatican one/two. I been praying so much to our Lord, the Holy Spirit, to SHOW me the way! What Mass am I and my family suppose to attend?! Why is it that my heart/ soul feels the calling of attending the Latin Mass??? I should be living my FIRST Latin Mass tomorrow God permit it! I'm so emotionally excited! Truly! There's a very blessed reason ya'll crossed my path!
I had the same experience as yours when I attended my first TLM here in Edmonton. The reverence is so real. I still go to NO. But now when I attend the NO i close my eyes the whole service and I now wear a veil. Whenever I get a chance to go to the Latin Mass I go. My relationship with God became deeper and I understand the mass now. Thanks for this video.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and your responses of your experiences. I am 75 years old and obviously grew up in the culture of the Latin Liturgy. I have not experienced it since after Vatican II. In the last couple of years at our parish, I have seen semblances (occasional latin music, people kneeling for Communion), adding more flavor and reverence to the Mass. As a child and former alter boy it was difficult to understand Latin, analogous to hearing someone speaking a foreign language. My mind would wander. As an older adult, I find it refreshing and have a greater appreciation of the Mass. I think that long standing traditions enhance and help us to connect to our very rich Catholic culture. To use an old fashion adage, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water".
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I have been blessed to be able to participate in the sacrifice of the mass at a Latin mass on occasions with my son and daughter in law. I am almost 76 and grew up with the Latin mass. As a young person who attended mass with my Latin/English Missal I had the best of both worlds. I initially was happy with the new English ( novus ordo) mass thinking there would be more participation which was the case. However over the years I have witnessed the watering down of the liturgy...shorter prayers of consecration, mostly cutie homilies or ones that drone on so long you loose the train of thought and I can hardly address the irreverent reception of our Lord in the Eucharist. The music....I won't even call it liturgical in some cases. Lastly my son who discovered the Latin mass on his own in his 50's is thinking that the Church betrayed young people in the loss of rich and fervent prayers of the old rite.
Thanks, I go to Latin mass on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays...I love it I also try to follow the Latin English missal. I feel that I know everything that is happening even on low mass ... thank God bless your beautiful family 🙏🙏
This is beautiful, not sure we have a Latin Mass here but I will look. Convert here, and Catholic Mass speaks to me & has led me deeply towards Christ more so than a protestant service ever did. My family turned against me after my conversion,so I stand alone.💙
Yes! I'm a convert to TLM too. I love to ponder how this was the Mass that sanctified centuries of saints in the Church. . . St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Therese of Liseux, St. Maximilian Kolbe . . . the list goes on. This mass is the long-standing tradition of the Church. The very rubrics of the Mass demand a reverence. . . all the nods and genuflections. All these things that struck you-absolutely struck me too-the reverence and the ABSOLUTE focus on Jesus. Now, when I go to NO-I'm taken aback by everyone's casualness and the lack of focus on Christ. I definitely prefer the TLM--I wish to attend a regular Mass with my children-one that gives the ultimate glory to God.
I started going to a church with Latin mass since fall. It brought me back to my childhood. My experience was similar to yours. I go to the mass that is a a reflection of the Latin mass. It is for the most part still Latin. I still haven't found a community being retired. Once daylight is longer, I hope to start attending a women's group.
I started attending TLM when I was in 4th grade and now I'm in my 30s. At first, I remembered that I did not like it as I can't understand anything and it was not the mass that I grew up learning. So during my teenage years, I went back to the nearest church with Novus Ordo Masses. Thankfully, my parents kept asking me and my siblings to attend TLM every sunday as a family (I think I was already in college at this time). Since then, I've realized how beautiful this mass is and amazed that this worship was also the same as those that were attended by so many saints! I now sing sacred music with the choir. There is this spiritual attachment I got from this mass probably because it helped me grow this love for the Holy Eucharist. This TLM community was brought together by the same priest when I was young. So whenever he gets reassigned to another church within the diocese, the community transfers as well. Very thankful for the same priest as he celebrated my betrothal and wedding in TLM.
I love the TLM & especially the SSPX. We have been lied to about them! While V2 council “open the window” to let the smoke of Satan in!” The pandemic opened our eyes as most NO closed down the FSSP, ICTK & FSSPX kept right on with tradition & people found them realized this IS what Catholicism! Keep going to the TLM: Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre never deviated from the Catholic faith or there would be absolutely nothing left of the TLM!
Look, I havent watched the whole video yet but cant wait to comment. I love yooz guys. Been watching your RUclips stuff for a long time. The Holy Sacrifice, family etc are the ducks guts. Im an Ozzie and live in the bush, the country. I am RICH spiritually, poor in a worldly sense. If the Lord ever provided, I would support your Ministry. God bless yooz.
I was raised primarily in the Novus Ordo, so it became the norm for me. However, I got to attend a Latin Mass to pray for a friend who had passed away. The people were very reverent. However, I felt much more like I was there to observe rather than there to participate. I guess if I was raised in the Latin mass, I would understand the language, be able to pray along, and subsequently appreciate it more. Thanks to you two, and everything you do.
Don’t let not understanding Latin stop you. Keep going & you will pick it up as times hoes in. Just sit & take in all the honor & glory be given to God while priest is facing crucifix not the people. We are all facing the Tabernacle together!!!
I just love you all. I agree with everything you are sharing. The Traditional Mass is truly the best way to worship God. It is beautiful in every way. 😍 I go to a latin Mass as much as i can although my home parish is Novus Ordo. The reverence is so astounding to see. Yes, community is so important. God bless you both.
Thank you for sharing. I am in a different place in my life, all my kids are grownups. I have attended and like it, but like you feel like it taxes me more than I am comfortable with. I am challenged when it comes to reaching out to connect with people. I have also attended a formerly Anglican Church turned Roman Catholic I loved it. But I am attending a regular mass, I feel like I need to grow there and support this church at this time. Yes I miss the reverence the quiet… Grow where I am planted is what I am hearing.
Oh, I so agree with supporting our local parish as it is really limping along because so many people don’t go to church anymore. What will happen when all our beautiful churches close and we have to travel to go to Mass . I would love to see more reverence for our Lord,
Thank you both for sharing your experience with the Traditional Latin Mass. I go as much as I can on Sundays and it's been a huge blessing in my life and it strengthens my relationship with Christ. I agree that even if one doesn't go often to the Latin Mass it's good to at least experience it at some point in your life. It will enrich your spirituality and the way you live the Novus Ordo Mass.
Very nourishing video. Thanks. Must share that my stepdaughter and I went to a Christmas Eve mass at a new church because her and her family had relocated. When we arrived the church looked like a small house. We went in. So in this case my stepdaughter attended a Latin mass accidentally. A rosary was said before mass. She was asking me what was going on. I had my mom’s St. Joseph daily missal so could show her the Latin and English version. God is so good. WAs definitely a gift from God that was totally unexpected.
Speaking of the calendar … the gorgeous illustrated liturgical calendars from Liturgy of the Home and Sophia Press are spectacular! It’s a prayer in and of itself to pour over the details.
my husband and I came into The Church in a fssp latin mass parish🤍 we love it! its an hour away though and we struggle to make it there especially with my husband working night shift. We go to a local novus ordo now, it would be so wonderful if the priest incorporated sacred music and Holy Communion kneeling & on the tongue! We love the local priest though & its where we’re at right now but someday we do hope to move. I am like Janelle I am especially drawn to the latin mass more than my husband although we both love it. Love all that you shared, God bless!
I lost my husband 4 years ago, he loved our church. Following his death I needed my church community and I am blessed with a beautiful church community. So I understand your search for that community for your family! The church I attend has 5 mass’ each Sunday, three traditional, one Latin, and one Spanish. I don’t attend it every Sunday but I do on occasion attend the Latin Mass. I like you love the reverence and now dress with reverence which ever mass I attend. Communion is offered on the tongue at all masses. We have many home schooled children with large families, our community continues to grow with young families. It warms my heart to see this return to the traditions. Thank you for this video , I can relate in so many ways!
Once while visiting Tennessee, I went to Sunday Mass at the Church next to the hotel. It was a Novus Ordo Mass but it had traditional Latin Mass elements. There was a communion rail, the priest celebrated ad orientum and the music was traditional. I really liked it! I also attended a weekday Latin Mass (not in Tennessee) a couple years ago and I was completely lost, there was no music, the priest and altar servers celebrated the Mass in the sanctuary and it was as if those in the pews were not even there, except for a brief homily and receiving communion. That was an experience I was not used to. Thanks for sharing yours!
We are a "feel good people" and I think that is the reason so many people are leaving the church and going elsewhere regardless of TLM or NO. If we are not entertained, we dont want to be there. I have experienced both as an adult. We went once a week (as that was only offered) to Mass in Latin. We were a homeschooling family as well. The priest offered to teach Latin to the children after Mass. It was the Mass and the class they looked forward to every week. Latin is not just for Mass, students excell in English by learning Latin. Expose your children to the Latin Mass even if its once a month it will be good for them.
I live in tge suburbs of san digo, CA and I have been attending the TLM for a few years now. Someone travels over an hour to attend. I travel 20 minutes. I so absolutely love the Mass.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience with the Latin Mass. Yes, I have attended the Latin Mass. I started attending during the covid when most churches were still closed and - I had listened to one of Taylor Marshall’s talks on the Latin Mass. I had just started receiving our Lord on the tongue and almost all parishes refused to administer communion on the tongue during covid…so I started attending Latin Mass- 3pm into it I could not handle the NO Mass and the irreverence which were extreme in some cases…the chatter in church before/after Mass and immodest dress in many cases!!! I thank God for the reverence and modest dress I found at Latin Mass… I had to make some changes to my dress too…I’m deeply grateful to our Lord for leading me to a deeper appreciation of the Mass through the Traditional Latin Mass. If I can’t attend the Latin Mass, I will reluctantly attend the N.O, but will not receive our Lord, if i cannot receive Him kneeling and on the tongue…out of respect and reverence of our Lord 🙏🏽
I enjoy listening to you and your wife it took me back to when I was little before the change of the mass . I am 74yr to day and l grew up with the Latin mass and I remember answering. And the way you describe is exactly as it was thank you for taking me back to me back to my earlier days thank you 😊 🙏 ♥️
I just want to thank you both for being such a lovely example. This rhythm you spoke about in the video shows through and there’s a lovely balance I sense in the way you live your faith. My family attends TLM & have done so since lockdowns. It was mostly due to our priest suddenly stepping down at our former parish coinciding with me finding a homeschool community that was based out of our FSSP parish. We slowly fell in love with it all. Over these last few years, my staunchly Protestant husband became Catholic and loved being catechized personally by our priest. I don’t think I can accurately summarize how much our family has changed-but it has really changed us to be in community with people who are so serious about their faith. We’re so very grateful. Thank you for sharing your experience! God bless your home & family!
I think I went to a Latin funeral once, which was beautiful. I think it is helpful to have the added outward signs of reverence however I think if I take time before Mass to meditate on the scriptures and remember as I enter the church that Christ is present, I am still able to have a beautiful connection with God, even at my regular, low budget, office casual, 8 am Mass, where people can barely even sing yet because it’s early and not a big crowd. But I loved this video and you guys being so honest and open as always and I do want to see if I can find a Latin Mass around my area just to experience it, as you say 💚 God bless you guys and your family
I became a Catholic at an FSSP parish. I can no longer get there, but I really miss the reverence and the true sense of mystery as the priest communes quietly with our God during the Canon. For the last 5 years I've been going to the N.O. Mass here in my small town. I have to keep my eyes closed and I follow my old Missal. I also respond in Latin wherever possible, all trying to remain connected with the Mass of the Ages. The lack of sacred music is one of many distractions at Mass. I try to do my best to remain focused on the fact that we are at the foot of the Cross in the company of our heavenly family. If it were possible I would not hesitate to return to the Traditional Latin Mass.
I have not personally attended a Latin Mass, but thanks be to GOD there is you-tube, so I can watch it. I don't understand Latin either but I think that even in English it should be celebrated with the priests back facing us.
I love it! Thank you for sharing. Our Parish does have some Latin songs, and We have many families with lots of children. After Mass we share snacks, coffee, hot chocolate for the kids and chat for 1 1/2 hours. The kids, (40-70) are so happy to see each other, and excited about coming to Mass. This is great for families, most who are home-schooling their kids.
During Covid we decided to attend TLM with my husband and two children and another family we know here in Sydney Australia. We had no idea about the dress code and the veils and we chose not to take communion that day. I did love it though and would go back again with my family (properly attired and veiled next time). It was so reverent and I cried from the beauty of it. I really appreciate your insights and thoughts on it all. Thanks for sharing.
The parish my family attends has a Latin mass. Although we think is beautiful we are blessed to have a very revenant NO mass. Unfortunately, I have been turned off by some of the comments of the TLM community. A lot of the same reasons, though you both experienced the timing of mass. Our music at our parish is Devine. The Latin mass parents have been added to our parish along with chant music at times. Our parish priest can do both the Latin mass and the NO. Again, we are so blessed.
My son & I just watched your video, we will check out on line a TLM as our nearest is over two hrs away & my son uses a wheelchair, so a few extra things to consider. God bless you Ken & Janelle & dear children!!!🙏❤️🙏❤️🤗
We are blessed to be at a Latin Mass that has three masses on Sunday. It’s harder for my husband also but he does it for me and my son. He sees how much better it is for our souls. He said he just don’t think that in our old parish that they really believed that Jesus was really in the Eucharist. We’ve been at out parish for three years now and I haven experienced the ridged and critical people that you have. Only mercy and understanding. I think because we were are in the same boat together.
Great video! I discovered much of what you shared and have belonged to my TLM community now for 2 years and will be a nesecitty moving forward in my journey.
I was 12 when V2 changed everything in the Mass. I miss the TLM. I live in a very big city and I believe there's just one church out of a dozen or more that has a TLM and it's about an hour away. Someday I hope to go. The Holy Spirit has been working on me. I wanted my husband to feel the difference but sadly he passed before we had a chance to go together. This was a good discussion on TLM. I recieve on my tongue by the priest or Deacon only even before it was expected to at a particular EM only. I tend to buck the system...God bless you and your family always. 🙏🏼💖😇🙏🏼
Agree with everything you say. TLM is deeper, more focused, FAR fewer distractions, way more impactful. And that's even when it's in a different language...
I tried one time. I loved receiving communion at the rail like I had up to the time I turned 14. One negative for me was not participating via verbal responses. The people were very reverent and I did wonder - where do these people come from??? Because I don’t meet them in my everyday life. From just one Latin Mass my choice would be for a hybrid type Mass, incorporating elements from both.
Growing up on Saturdays, our N.O. parish had a beautiful Mass which was said NO way but all the responses were in Latin. We sung the Agnus Dei , pater noster, ets
I maybe attended the Latin Mass when I was a toddler in the 1960s with the large family that I am of (same size as yours, only seven of us boys! .......) before it was changed to what I now know as Novus Ordo Mass. There is no Latin Mass within reasonable driving distance from here at present. I love Latin prayers and hymns. Thank GOD and you for this excellent Catholic Orthodox video!
I have attended a few times, and although we felt a little lost, we found the community at the church was very welcoming and helpful to us. We have since moved but I would attend again, if I could find one close to me.
George and I do attend the Latin Mass near our home and yes our community is superb and everything you said rings true, The odd part is my husband would prefer no music but I love it all.
KEY WORD & VERY IMPORTANT POINT, "THE MASS IS NOT ABOUT US & ENTERTAINING US" IT IS FULLY & TRULY ABOUT JESUS & THE GIFT OF PURE LOVE HE GAVE HUMANITY IN DYING FOR OUR SINS SO WE CAN HAVE ETERNAL SALVATION". LATIN MASS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WAY WE CAN CELEBRATE & HONOR JESUS & TO EXPERIENCE HIS "TRUE" PRESENCE IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST. God Bless & I hope more people will be encourage to try attending a Latin Mass. SO JOYFUL TO HEAR YOU FOUND A CHURCH & COMMUNITY THAT CELEBRATES TRADITIONAL MASS. I WILL NEVER RECEIVE OUR LORD BY HAND EVER AGAIN. ANOTHER POINT THE LATIN MASS IS ACTUALLY A FULL PRAYER EXPERIENCE. THE PRIEST IS ADORING & PRAYING TO OUR LORD & WE ARE PARTICIPATING BY WITNESSING THIS INTER ACTION.
My reasons for attending are identical. I LOVE the focus and reverence. It is a community as well, because it is the only church in a 50 mile radius that offers Latin Mass, and the only one that is weekly. However, sacramental prep, faith formation and form are still mandated to be in the NO. I also have been to a few TLM in areas that we've lived and have experienced the rigid judgemental mentality... but the Latin Mass is beautiful regardless of the congregation present... that's the best part to me. That being said, we are supporting members of a vibrant, thriving, family-friendly NO Parish that has a reverent NO Mass. I attend Mass at both because the NO is what I was born and baptized into, but again, love the Latin Mass.
I am going to really try to dress up for Sunday Mass. I am not sure how I will do at the 6:30 a.m. Mass but I will be more cognizant of it. Great advice you all gave on this.
We have attended a Latin mass on a Sunday as well as one during the week. I agree with you both. I loved the incense and communion rail. It is a beautiful and reverent mass.
You are so right about the "rigid" people. I found there were more people with a watered down faith at the NO mass than rigid people at the TLM. I think some of the rigidity comes from a need to preserve so as not to lose tradition...again. Im a mom of 7. We've attended TLM for about 20 years. My oldest was 14 when we switch ed from the Novus Ordo. It took about two years to make the complete switch. Lots of questions new things for the children to get used to. Surprisingly, the children acclimated very easily.
community is really important. I love in Kerala India and belong to SyroMalabar rite. But I grew up in Africa. Went to a convent school run by Dominican sisters and really inculcated Catholic values. when I came back to live in India I didn't really belong to any parish as I was studying in different places far from home and I really felt a disaffection for my community and church. But once I came back and got married and belonged steadfastly to my current parish ,. my faith really got fertilized and flourished and l feel so grounded. It's great
We love you guys! What an awesome video! We can relate to SO much of what you talk about here- we were smiling and nodding the whole video! Candlemas is coming up soon ;) Take care, God bless you guys! Eric & Alicia
It was the Latin Mass that inspired me to learn to pray the Rosary in Latin and I love that 1. Latin is one of the the Holy languages that was affixed to the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, therefore it has great power against evil for that reason. 2. Latin is the universal language of the Church. Imagine if everyone KNEW the language, then it wouldn't be so daunting and mystifying. It would be the language that UNITES us, no matter what country we are from we would understand what was being said at the most important event on earth! I had been to a Latin Mass and I do love the reverence, the Ad Orientum stance of the priest, and the sacred music as well. We belong to a parish that is just right down the street from us and my husband prefers to stay, so I remain at our Novus Ordo parish in union with him. I love praying my Rosary in Latin though, it's beautiful and meditation is easier for me. Frankly I am just happy I was able to learn it at this stage in my life!😊💗🙏
Thanks for sharing! I agree with so many of your thoughts. I started the attending the tlm out of curiosity. Now me and my family are members at a tlm parish. Occasionally I'll attend a NO and I've been very encouraged to see more NO parishes including more trad practices in their liturgies and celebrating mass in a manner closer to what the V2 documents called for.
I did attend a Latin mass in Massachusetts on Jan/22 with my sister in law and my 2 girls. I have to say the respect and the reverence was impeccable. I loved how the ladies and children wore their veils and how quiet everyone was…..I love that! I do have to agree with you Ken, even though you understand what’s going on, I felt a bit lost. It was a High Mass over Low Mass. I started feeling anxious b/c my disabled son stayed home with family. Mass started early and it would take me awhile to get him ready. It was a nice experience though!
Thank you for your videos. I truly wish the communion rail would return. I feel that in many cases there is a lack of reverence without it. Just my thoughts. No judgement. As for Latin Mass it is beautiful, I just wish I could follow but I do get lost. God Bless you and your family.
I grew up in a protestant church. I stopped going to church and denied Christ in my late teens and early twenties. After getting married, I began exploring the idea of returning to Christianity. I have done some research and believe TLM would be a great fit for my wife and I. Since I grew up a protestant, I am pretty much clueless about how to become Catholic. I would appreciate any guidance someone could give me.
Thanks for the message. My thoughts are, if you are interested in the TLM then just go! After that, talk to the priest or give the parish a call asking to speak to the priest explaining that you are potential interested in returning to Christianity but would like to learn more. I am sure they will be able and happy to help. ... Let me know how it goes! My personal email is ken@catholicspeaker.com
Can y’all talk on homeschooling and what curriculum or activities y’all do? My DS is homeschooled but I also work (single Catholic mom 🙋🏼♀️). Needless to say my day is crazy busy, but it’s truly a blessing and I’m fortunate to have a job that’s so understanding.
Yes I have and absolutely loved it . So much reverence. The world would be different today . I can’t stand when people behave in church like it’s a theatre or are dressed very improperly . The saddest thing is that they don’t even see it . The last mass I went to , the lady in front of me was showing her husband the beds they were looking to buy , just scrolling through it . I almost went over and asked her to put her phone away ……. this is very very sad . They don’t even see how they are offending our Saviour. I wanted to cry . Jesus need to come soon and wake us all up because we are not heading to a good place . In the past year I asked people behind me or in front of me to stop talking and these were older people , it is really out of control. The few people that still remain in church have no reverence for God. The way they are dressed or the kids I wouldn’t even go to public like that . I saw a teenager wearing pyjamas to church , looked like he just got up from the bed . What’s next ?
You are preaching to choir, Talking about getting lost and not respecting mass and the bad not knowing Latin. I'm glad your experience was positive. Love the Latin mass, I don't enjoy Facebook and others saying EWTN is pushing latin mass on them.
I fully appreciate this video. My experience as a daily Mass goer is that SADLY I have come to feel much less enthusiastic about Sunday Mass. I should also point out there is no Latin Mass option for me to get to. This is why I don't feel enthusiastic: At the weekday Masses the people are all there because they want to be there. They like me are mostly daily (otherwise frequent mid week) Mass goers. On Sunday I find the experience to be very flat. There is a banality which I put down to the music and the chattering after Mass (and sometimes before). The 'music' is terrible due to the FREQUENT repetition of the particular modern hymns as well as the guitar or piano being played instead of the organ, the orientation of the people SEEMS to me to be less focused on reverencing Our Lord. At the end of Mass when someone starts clapping the musician nearly everyone else joins in with very loud clapping and I feel this to be DEPLORABLE. Mass is not a concert and the musicians' job is to INSPIRE all of us to make our prayer/hymn MORE PLEASING TO GOD but instead their focus is clearly not about the prayer in the hymn but about the musician. I also dislike there being 'welcomers' so I mostly get there 15-20 minutes earlier to avoid the temptation to be annoyed or judgemental. I feel I come there to communicate with Jesus - not other people - but ESPECIALLY Jesus FIRST - although I desire to JOIN MY PRAYER of the Mass with others. While, there is a parish a fair way away where, due to this priest's love of the Latin Mass, (which he only says on Saturday mornings) the Novus Ordo Mass is almost identical to the Latin Mass but in English. Also at this parish there is no turning to each other for the 'peace chatter' after the Our Father. Unfortunately driving there is difficult for me in my 70's. The priest also starts 10-15 minutes late making it longer - also tricky for me. So I long for the Warning and to see the conversion of fellow Mass goers so we ALL have the same respect and desire to pray the Mass and every other prayer with much reverence. I long even more for the Glorious Eucharistic Reign spoken of by Our Lady to Fr Don Stefano Gobbi, where EVERYONE will be living in God's love which will of course be directed to one another as well as to God.
When I was growing up the Latin mass is all we had you had Latin classes in school our prayers were all in Latin my son who is 22 he really enjoys the Latin mass but since we moved from SD and came to AZ we could not find any which is alright. We like both masses. God Bless 🙏❤
I am in my mid-70's, as a child I went to parochial school and taught by nuns. We were required to sing in the choir and it was all in latin then. When you enter the church you knew you were in God's House and not in an auditorium where everyone's talking, eating, playing and acting irreverent. Then came Novus Ordo and I became estranged from the Catholic Church until last month when I made an appointment to meet with a priest. We spoke for more than an hour and as our conversation wound down he asked if I wanted him to hear my confession which I did. I now attend both Novus Ordo and I found a parish that celebrates TLM. I pray that Pope Francis will not ban TLM.
I have been wondering about you two and quickly clicked this video. I hope you two will fully come to Tradition. As teachers you know that the Traditional Mass is the Mass of the ages that has preserved the Faith. Novus Ordo is an infiltration and adulteration of the Mass. My husband a convert to the Faith begged me not to take him again to the Novus ordo after he met Tradition.
One day there will be a reform of the reform, it will be the best of the TLM with the best of the NO. It will be perfect and reverent and transformative. The novus ordo that I spent 48 years in breaks my heart.
I grew up with just the Latin Mass. Now, I cannot get to one- NO parish - tons of E.M’s, giving Holy Communion in the hand. My parish and other parishes near me refuse on the tongue. So, since I have no choice- I’ll only receive from my priest- never a EM. I’m struggling with this.🙏💔 I physically cannot drive an hour to attend a TLM.
I've never been to a TLM and I would loved it to experience it. As you guys mentioned, I feel a bit afraid and unprepared to attend because its in Latin and I don't know the liturgy. I also need to convince my husband to go. He is practising catholic and we attend the NO mass every Sunday. However, he doesn't embrace change very much... we might need to travel about 30min to find one. I related to Janelle when she said they were looking for community. We need it as a family specially that my kids are not homeschooled ☹ and I don't see good influences for them even attending a Catholic School.
If you’re struggling to know what’s going on in TLM, then look up the Method of Hearing Mass by St Francis de Sales. It can fit on 2 pages; it’s a quick guide to help you navigate…
Interesting . Our Parish is small and rural- we truly are a close knit community. Like a beautiful family - no one Catholic is the same. We embrace each other as we show up. We depend on each other in the community we live as our ancestors did. We depend on one another as we serve - as if we don’t pull together , the church would not be. No matter where you are - Jesus lives in the Eucharist and loves His ppl. So grateful as our Parish is called Corpus
I am a member of an FSSP parish. My first five years of Catholic school were pre-Vatican II, so I remember the Latin Mass. I travel a rather long way to attend a Latin Mass, but I consider the drive part of the worship. I'm within walking distance of a NO Mass, but I prefer the Latin Mass.
When receiving the Eucharistic on the tongue, is there a particular way to do so? Where should your hands be , tongue, etc. we only have NO mass ; no option for Latin mass. But I want to receive Eucharist on the tongue not in my hand. Any tips Thank you and May God Bless your family. 🥰🙏
Praise be to God that you are answering His call to receive is this beautiful way! My tips would be to email your priest and to tell him your intention. Technically, cannon law does not allow him to deny you based on how you receive, but sadly it happens. Taking away the element of surprise may help ensure you aren't denied. Next, make sure your hands are in "pray hands" form it helps signal you don't want to receive in the hand. When receiving you can put your hands behind your back or under the sheet at the rail if one is provided. This is so if there is a misstep particles of our Lord won't be in multiple places. You could also choose to be last in line if you are worried about others being scandalized by the "spread of germs." I had to do this for awhile during covid. Lastly, really get your tounge out there. It's awkward the first few times however it makes the mechanics of receiving on the tounge much easier for both you and the priest. As a side note, sometimes the priest might accidentally touch you if he is not used to giving Holy Communion this way. While uncomfortable, don't let it stop you. You both will get in a rhythm soon enough. Sorry for the long response, hope it helps! Good luck and Pax Christi!
I converted to Catholicism several years ago, but the mass felt so similar to the protestant services I grew up with, I stopped going. Now I think I have always craved the solemnity and beauty that you find in a Latin mass. But I've been away from church so long, I could never fit in there. As a former protestant with limited experience with even the "regular" mass, I think I would be a bumbling fool!
Yes, I do attend the Latin Mass. I was attending the Novus Ordo Mass and was I guess you would say very critical of the parish priests moving away from Jesus being the Center of the Mass, to him, the priest, his experiences, etc. Even at times I would become annoyed at the parish priest, the pastor, because I felt he was not being reverent enough. The congregation holding hands during the Our Father, doing the same gestures as the priest during prayers etc. That's when I knew something was wrong. I knew I had to find a parish I felt at home with, and these feelings of being uncomfortable during Mass would end. Getting these feelings during Mass not a good thing if you know what I mean! So, I started praying asking God for guidance and going from parish to parish searching for the parish I would call my home. Then I started wearing the mantilla veil to Mass because I felt God was calling me to do so, and St. Paul does speak of this in scripture that women need to cover their heads (1 Cor. 11:2-16). One Sunday after Mass as I was leaving the church, a parishioner approached me and commented on my wearing the mantilla veil and asked if I attended the Latin Mass. I told her no because I didn't know of any church giving the Latin Mass. She then told me of a parish not far from me, maybe 1/2 hour away, that does the Latin Mass 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. God answered my prayer and I attended and knew I was home! Such a beautiful Mass all attention on our Precious Lord! Love it! I too was very impressed to see young families attending with their big families, 5 or more children! They are very blessed! I bought the New Roman Missal by Fr. Lasance to follow along and I became a permanent member of the parish and have also become a Catechist. In my diocese there is a parish which is almost 1 hour away that does the Latin Mass every Sunday and I attended a few times there as well; however, I guess I would have to say for convenience purposes, or maybe just because I'm lazy, the parish I now belong to is closer to where I currently live, so I joined there. The funny thing is years ago I did attend meetings at my now parish when I was attempting to join the Carmelite laity order and attended a Mass there as well. I remember noticing the communion rails but didn't pay any attention to it all that much at that time; however, God kept reminding me that there were parishioners who received Holy Communion at the rails during Mass, that image was implanted in my thoughts. Abba was trying to get my attention to let me know that was the parish I should join. Everyone who knows me knows I'm a slow learner, LOL, but God is persistent and so is Mother Mary which I am so grateful for and never gave up on me. Praise you Jesus forever and ever, amen! I was too young to remember, now at 68 years old, but the Latin Mass was the ONLY Mass when I was growing up. But, of course, I never appreciated the Mass until now and unfortunately my parents never had us attend Mass on a weekly basis, just now and then. My Pastor also gives a holy Novus Ordo Mass with sacred songs, incorporating aspects of the Latin Mass, the use of incense, no Lecturers, kneeling and receiving the Eucharist on the tongue at communion rails is an option and available to us during this Novus Ordo Mass. He does still use Eucharistic Ministers; however, for all parishioners who receive Communion at the communion rails, only a priest administers communion to us. That makes me happy and I'm trying to be grateful for the many blessings during this Mass and I refuse to be critical of what or how I think the Mass should be! I just pray everyone reveres Our Precious Lord in the Eucharist at all times and I teach this to my students every week. But being critical of parish priests? This old lady has learned to shut her mouth! LOL. God bless you both Janelle and Ken.

@@darylburnet8328 no need for a HOWEVER how about, a thanks be to God that their family has been so strengthened by this treasure they have found?
Dèo Gratias!!
There is the original church of Christ, the Orthodox Church. Come and see.

You've put my own thoughts into words 😊❤️
I watch St Cantius and EWTN daily.
Exactly our experience! Mother Mary guided us back to Her Son! No turning back. Holy Ghost thank You to. 🙏🙏🙏
Love the tlm. I recently discovered it several years ago 🥰💯❤🙏
Blessings in The Divine Will ❤️
Once again I thank God for having ya'll in my life!
I close my eyes too...at the NO
Thank you for sharing your feedback and your responses of your experiences.
I will be looking for a Latin Mass on YT.
I loved the book “Nothing Superfluous.” There are similar ones too. It explains every gesture that happens within the TLM. Beautiful!
Silence is participation...listening to God.
Amen to this video. God is calling us to this Mass for all the reasons you mention. 🙏
Thank you for sharing. I am so happy to hear of the wonderful grace God has given your family, particularly your husband. We rejoice with you!
@@Catholicspeaker Thank you so much!
God bless you and your familys with Abundance for all the good and wonderful good work and examples you give us all.x
This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great video & sharing. Thank you for addressing this topic. Very interesting. Also, best wishes for success with your new pay plan!
Appreciate the honesty on your experience. TY
You guys are true practicing Catholic!
What do you mean a hybrid mass? It is forbidden to mix the two rites the novus ordo and Tridentine.
@@fionamorant2769 If there was a Vatican 3 it could happen.
Beautiful Testimony
I grew up with the Latin mass and loved it. I really miss it to day !
I said 7 Rosaries for you all and 7 Divine Mercy Chaplets and 8 Holy Wounds prayer (Rosaries full) 8 Golden Arrows prayer.
I do not think I have heard about the Holy Wounds prayer. Tell me more!

It's great
I was raised with the Latin Mass. One of the things I miss the most is the mystique, which is why I think it seems to be so much more casual
We love you guys! What an awesome video! We can relate to SO much of what you talk about here- we were smiling and nodding the whole video!
Candlemas is coming up soon ;)
Take care, God bless you guys!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Was it St. Catherine’s in Woburn, MA? St. Catherine’s recently moved to Weston, MA. The church is under renovation but so much more Catholic!😊
@@janetplonka8110 no it was in Fall River Massachusetts
Yes! My husband and I attended First Friday Mass @ TLM with Adoration and confession. But Sunday because of our kids , we attend the other Mass
Finally😍
Yes I have and absolutely loved it .
So much reverence. The world would be different today .
I can’t stand when people behave in church like it’s a theatre or are dressed very improperly .
The saddest thing is that they don’t even see it .
The last mass I went to , the lady in front of me was showing her husband the beds they were looking to buy , just scrolling through it .
I almost went over and asked her to put her phone away ……. this is very very sad .
They don’t even see how they are offending our Saviour.
I wanted to cry .
Jesus need to come soon and wake us all
up because we are not heading to a good place .
Great topic!
Our first experience was the same. My first request upon arrival was, where is the crying room?
Interesting . Our Parish is small and rural- we truly are a close knit community. Like a beautiful family - no one Catholic is the same. We embrace each other as we show up. We depend on each other in the community we live as our ancestors did. We depend on one another as we serve - as if we don’t pull together , the church would not be.
No matter where you are - Jesus lives in the Eucharist and loves His ppl. So grateful as our Parish is called Corpus
You went to the Baltimore TLM? At St alphonsus? So way!! That’s where I go right now!
I love latin masd too.The BEST ON EARTH🌍🌎🌏🌎🌍
I am a member of an FSSP parish. My first five years of Catholic school were pre-Vatican II, so I remember the Latin Mass. I travel a rather long way to attend a Latin Mass, but I consider the drive part of the worship. I'm within walking distance of a NO Mass, but I prefer the Latin Mass.
When receiving the Eucharistic on the tongue, is there a particular way to do so? Where should your hands be , tongue, etc.
we only have NO mass ; no option for Latin mass. But I want to receive Eucharist on the tongue not in my hand.
Any tips
Thank you and May God Bless your family.
Thank you 🙏
I converted to Catholicism several years ago, but the mass felt so similar to the protestant services I grew up with, I stopped going. Now I think I have always craved the solemnity and beauty that you find in a Latin mass. But I've been away from church so long, I could never fit in there. As a former protestant with limited experience with even the "regular" mass, I think I would be a bumbling fool!
You said the Latin Mass was longer. Tell us more about that.
We need to instill reverence in our kids, the Latin Mass does that. Like you said Janelle, the Holy Mass is not there to entertain us :)
