While I agree that checking out these things, especially the Latin Mass, is cool for a one-time adventure, would you like to go to Latin Mass for a month, or a few more times, to have a more in-depth experience about it? i think we both agree, that Latin Masses cannot be fully comprehended, or maybe even more important than that, experienced fully by visiting it just once.

Not quite a simple as you put it, Dylan. It may be said anywhere as long as some basic attributes of an altar are fulfilled, such as having an altar stone with saintly relic present, as well as various cloth coverings, the crucifix and candles present.

The differences in the Masses are further explained in the documentary Mass of the Ages, but also by a very good video by Fr. Ripperger (Traditions OF the Liturgy - not AND). Conflict is sometimes necessary, as even Jesus said that staying faithful toHim and His teachings will cause conflicts. Blessings.
I’m a born and raised practicing Catholic. I grew up in the Novus Ordo and recently started going to the Latin mass. The more I read about the changes in the mass post Vatican 2, the more I realized the problems with the Novus Ordo mass. The biggest problem I have is “extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist” and receiving the Eucharist on the hand. In the Latin mass, Our Lord is received kneeling and on the tongue, as our hands are not consecrated and should therefore not touch the Host. Girl altar boys, holding hands during the Our Father, immodesty and inappropriate dress code at mass, lack of sermons teaching about the reality of Hell and instead most people believing “we are all going to Heaven” and happy clappy hymns are just a few of the problems I personally have with the Novus Ordo Mass. Mass is not about the people, it’s about God and his sacrifice at Calvary. The Latin mass is about that. Anyways, these are my views. God bless you all ❤️
Even in Novus Ordo you may receive on the tongue, and you can dress yourself and your family modestly. I also, though, agree with the liturgical music being nonliturgical. My favorite mass is at the Carmelite retreat house, El Carmelo in Redlands, CA. Although Novus Ordo in general style, much of the mass is in Latin, including the hymns. Almost all of the masses conclude with Salve Regina. This is one of the things I love about being a Novice in the Order of Carmelite Discalced Seculars. (Check out a secular or tertiary order of your choice if you are so led. For me it is coming home, and captures my heart in ways indescribable.) Daily Liturgy of the Hours, Lauds, Vespers and Compline can be found chanted in Latin on RUclips, if you prefer. We use English, though in our Council. The chapel is small and beautiful, with newly installed altar rails. These are situated such that a participant in the mass step up to the opening in the gate, as Mary is the Gate to Jesus in the Sacrificial Bread and Wine, which become the precious Body and Blood. And those of us who wish to kneel may step to the side to kneel on a small cushion. Very often, though, I notice the friars kneeling on the hard marble. The silent retreats are wonderful, and are clearly not open tp the public during this time of isolation. We DO have Latin Mass in Ontario, CA, with a sign outside before entering the chapel saying (not suggesting) that veils (which will be provided if a woman does not wear her own) and modest skirts, etc., must be worn... with no other immodest or irreverent features.... No pants or slacks are accepted for women. No jeans or t-shirts either. You simply will not be admitted at all. Many love the mass there, and I know these may be found all over the country. The Carmelite mass I described is Novus Ordo, but without the loose and irreverent clapping and nonsense. I'm with you on all of that stuff.

I can tell you what converted me to Catholicism was finding the real presence in the mass. It was an ugly and not well done ordinary form. I had been around such services having been a Lutheran. What I was shocked by is the absolute presence of the divine. The real presence was like some kind of beacon to my heart. How could I turn away from it? It doesn’t matter the mass type, Christ is truly present. What a wonderful gift God has given mankind.

Yes, I hope you are given the opportunity to know Christ first hand through the real presence. Without that the mass is an archaic ritual or ugly variant of the Lutheran service. With it even the most base mass becomes a unification between heaven and earth. Oh, by the way, the real presence is in the Eucharist of the Orthodox Church. I find their liturgy beautiful. Eastern rite Catholics do the same liturgy. Liturgy is like a love poem around the true presence of Christ. There are many ways to say I love you.
Paul Thiele I do know Lutherans do believe in the true presence but I never felt it there nor at the time did I probably believe in it (I was a child and our confirmation preparation was truly horrid). This is besides the point that I now believe that the Lutherans do not in fact have the true presence and their communion is invalid.
Thanks for sharing this perspective! I guess I’m just biased because in my head I equate high mass with Cantius where everything is so ornate and beautiful. In a way, so many of the things I liked about high mass coincided with the incredible physical space. All together it created a really interesting experience.
@@GospelSimplicity The space is important for context, but I've seen high Masses on porches, under tents, in gyms, in circular churches. The movements of the rite have the power to generate an ordered sense of space, even when the space is void.

I was raised in the Novus Ordo mass and it discouraged me and then in high school I turned to being a non-denominational Christian. But then my home catholic parish began to offer the Extraordinary Form (traditional Latin mass) and that CHANGED MY LIFE. I am happily a Trad Catholic ☺️☺️
What sucks for me is that the closest TLM to me is through the SSPX, which is not in communion with the Catholic Church. If I want to go to a TLM that fulfills the obligation, I have to go about an hour

I've been a Roman Catholic since baptised as a infant. Its been 2 years since I found the tradition and beauty in the Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin Mass) and I have not gone back to Novus Ordo since. I am now a practicing Traditional Catholic because of it too.

What makes Catholicism so great, for me, is our belief that the bread becomes Christ. That it’s Jesus, the God of the Universe, right there. And I believe that Jesus can transcend all things, even a particular rite. I’ve been to Latin Mass and attend a NO. But it’s God that does the work for a sinner like me. That is the beautiful trouble of a unified Church. In protestantism these factions would be in entirely different churches - in Catholicism we need to make it work.

I see us as having respect for the personhood of each other, respect for the different charisms we are called to, and appreciation for how deeply we each love God. One of the great problems of today is that few know how to discuss counts of view. Let it not be a lost art. Recently found your channel and have enjoyed your videos. I'm Catholic so this subject is dear to my heart. I grew up only knowing the Novus Ordo Missae and only heard about the Latin Mass from my parents which they experienced in their youth. I started attending TLM last year and it's deepening my faith and I won't turn back. I struggle to go to NO mass now as there is just a general lack of reverence towards the Eucharist and most of the priests preach liberal ideology in their sermons. It's always refreshing when a Protestant treats the RCC with respect in dialogue so nice work as that is commendable. Some of my favorite Catholic RUclips content is from former Protestant converts, they always seem to make great Catholics :) Be warned, the more you seek truth and study Church History, you'll be attracted to either the RC or EasternOrthodox Church. Christopher Grillo I think there are wide variance in the NO. Like your parents I grew up with Latin and I love it. But my NO parish is very reverent and about as traditional as one can be with NO. The church I attend when visiting my son in Ohio makes me crazy! No kneelers even How can you not kneel at the consecration. They even have a separate chapel not in the sanctuary where they keep the Eucharist when it’s not Mass. Say what? Makes me nuts. Also along with a few others I now wear a head covering at Mass. Yes we need reverence in the Lords presence.
@@janpetsch620 Hi Jan. I feel the frustration about your son's parish. I definitely agree that the NO can be celebrated reverently. For example, Saint John Cantius where Gospel Simplicity went does just about the most reverent NO mass I've seen. Unfortunately, the vast majority of NO parishes practice liturgical abuse.
Christopher Grillo yes, the novus ordo can be done reverently. Makes me wonder where churches are spiritually when they care so little about the liturgy. We should act like we are on our first date with our dream girl, our soul mate, who is way above our hopes, who for some reason still agreed to a date. Do we come to the date 30 minutes late and unshowered? Do we just kind of wing things? Or do we show her we respect her? How much more the church as the bride of Christ should respect the bridegroom. And, to be not miss understood it doesn’t mean a strict formalism and rigid conservatism. If you were poor and having to go on this date with your dream girl maybe you only can afford the street food from your neighborhood and you buy it and walk with your beloved along the ocean, even such a simple date can be done reverently and impress. Why do we expect the lord to chase after us like we are some prize? The fact that he does only shows he sees more in us than we see in ourselves.

I was confirmed only a little over a month ago after a whole year of being a catechumen. I did a lot of discernment forehand, and went straight into attending Latin Mass.
I’m so excited for this video! I have a deep love for both NO and Latin Masses, as well as the Divine Liturgy of my Eastern brethren. They are all miraculous, from the simple to the ornate, because Jesus humbly appears at every single one. I’m sorry you have to be a witness to the in-fighting. Please keep in mind that we are a giant family eating the Heavenly Feast at a giant table, and like many family meals you will find a mixture of love and opposition, beauty and pain. We are a huge group of sinners sitting down together. The beauty is that regardless of form, we are all together with the saints and angels when we are in the Mass/Divine Liturgy. My long-distance friends and I, when parting, like to say, “I’ll see you in the Eucharist.” God bless you!

@@oggiep3915 I'll agree they are both Latin Rite, and that *legally speaking* they are both Roman Rite. However I do not think the NO is objectively the same rite as the traditional Roman one, on account of all the differences it has. Rather, it is, to use Msgr. Klaus Gamber's expression, "a modern Papal rite" that has some points of commonalty with the preceding tradition. What the NO is in reality is a new liturgy, crafted by a committee and animated by the pure will of a Pope. This in sharp contrast to all other Eastern and Western rites, which have been organically made in the womb of the Church from her beginning. That is why, ultimately, it is dying and must die. Avmetal branch grafted onto a tree cannot but eventually fall off, because not being actually a part of the tree, it is not sustained by its life, and is necessarily left behind in the long run.
Your experience is really spirit lead. To be introduced to the Latin mass and have such an understanding is quite enlightening and encouraging, especially for a young person. There is a reason the Latin mass is making a strong come back, its truth, beauty, and richness of spirit, amazing! Thanks for being so open and honest.
I went to a Catholic Church for about a year or two before converting. Every single time I went, I felt glowing, accepted, warm, just generally where I should be. ❤️❤️❤️ Props to the priest who passed away after he helped me when I was homeless and he was the only one from any church that would even try. Everyone saw me as a lost cause. I was kicked out of a Lutheran Church. The priest believed in me and I failed him. But what he did changed me and it was a slow burn, not a total engulfing. I hope God blesses him a lot for making me feel worthy of some mercy. I became responsible. I went to college. I had kids. I have a house now. Thank God he sent me Fr Hughs. Never count anyone out.
David Watson this is true. It was the vernacular 1500 years ago. However, it was not the vernacular 1300 years ago. Or 1000 years ago. Or 700 years ago. Or 300 years ago. Yet, countless mystics and saints and converts write with an endless vigor, one that carried them to heaven, about the objective fruits of the Mass of the Ages. We take for granted just how old the Mass is, and just how much history it holds. It is the Mass of the Saints, and developed naturally. The Novus Ordo Missae is, as a matter of historical fact, not in continuity with the Tridentine Rite.

There's just something about you that's so genuine and kindred! I attended Novus Ordo Mass since early 70s! I prefer it because it's more inclusive💜 Latin Mass to me is a once in awhile treat. Mass at our church is reverent and beautiful! Good luck on your voyage little brother🙏
I want to start by thanking you for your openness to giving Catholocs a fair shake. Too often, we are assailed with prejudice, so your perspective is a breath if fresh air, and it is appreciated. I have been assisting at the Traditional Latin Mass for a little over a year, after exclusively Nivus Ordo for more than 20 years. It is the richness and beauty that you mentioned that appreciate so much about the TLM. It certainly does take some getting used to, and it does require some effort to learn a bit if Latin. But, in the end, for me, it such an enriching experience that I can't fully describe. Your description of your experiences are great. I think you really hit on some very important factors of both Forms, and the tension you find between the two groups is really spot on. I prefer to evangelize in a more positive way that will, hopefully, attract people to the beauty and reverence of traditiinal Catholic worship, but there are many traditionalists who maybe aren't as kind or gentle. Either way, thanks again for approaching us with openness and without the common prejudices.

You are very truthful and insightful. May I suggest something of great importance you may have missed. The TLM focus is not on us but on God. We go to TLM firstly to honor and adore our God. In novus ordo, man is the center, and the importance seems to be on what we get out of the Mass. The altar is moved away from the wall, and the priest faces the people. In TLM the priest faces God, not the people, and he prays to God for the people.
I'm a former Evangelical Protestant who went to Novus Ordo (orthodox Franciscan parish) and I've been attending TLM (Traditional Latin Mass) at an FSSP Parish which is just so beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend TLM, and definitely definitely go with a Missal in hand if you can (Latin with English next to it so you know what's going on) and I'd recommend the St. Andrew Daily Missal strongly. Good to see more Protestants being open to TLM. So beautiful!!!

Our priest is that good that the Novos Ordo is sung with incense, facing the altar, and ends with the singing of Salve Regina. That's when you know you've found a home parish.
Catholic Theologian Scott Hahn had a very interesting interview on "Mass of the Ages", which is a very traditional group, talking about what is so good about both the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo. The interviewer seemed to want to emphasise the TLM and clearly disagreed with the positives about the NO, but Scott Hahn has so much wisdom on Catholicism and what we need for unity

Novus Ordo was easier for you because it is in fact very much protestant mass. In Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) you are not partcicpating you are a witness to Holy Sacrifice of Lord Jesus. You sense supernatural in this Holy Mass.
Timestamp 11:31: I listened to this video in July, 2021. I was taken aback by your comment about mixing politics with the Mass when a patriotic song was sung at Mass on Labor Day weekend. As a life long, cradle Catholic, the song “America the Beautiful” is typically sung during all Masses on Memorial Day weekend, the weekend closest to Independence Day, and Labor Day weekend. Singing this song is not mixing politics with the Mass. It’s honoring our nation and praying that God will continue to shed His grace on it. It’s not political, rather, it’s very appropriate and necessary to ask for God’s blessings on our country and to be grateful we were born in it. 🇺🇸

Again as a faithful Catholic I truly believe it's a sneaky tactic by the enemy to attempt to devide God's church. I so agree with you. We should not fight about which language we use at mass. I have travelled overseas when we were allowed. And attended mass in French, German, Turkish and of course English. Because there is a set of different prayers and routines( don't like that word but can't think of a better one) that means you can feel at home no matter where we are. I love our English mass and find it so reverential while accessible as well. And the depth and amount is scripture used at each mass just feeds my heart. If I could make a comparison I have found my h more human input and much less scripture in the protestant services I have attended. We do concentrate on words of scripture over human words as a matter of priority. That's why our homilies should be short not too long.
Um yeah, "the smoke of Satan that infiltrated the Catholic Church" was the modernization changes from the ecumenism of the 1960s in the Second Vatican Council. THAT is the source and reason for the ongoing 'infighting' as you call it. Luckily, by the grace of God, the American bishops nowadays aren't nearly as militant to lie and intimidate parishoners who asked about the Latin Mass and a demand for it. For example, in the 1980s (especially) and the `90s, the bastardization of even the Novus Ordo showed that modern Catholicism was off the rails -- clown and polka masses, placing statues of Buddha on the central table during public meetings in the sacristy, etc. The bishop our our diocese was so liberal and anti-traditional Latin Mass that he lied publicly about it's validity and said it was "outright unlawful" by John Paul II. It was only after this deceitful old coot passed away that the new bishop allowed more of the writings and word from Rome to prove this was never the case. It's really disturbing what 1 'evil' person in power can do, let alone what a room of 600 modernists can do to destroy so much of the Roman Catholic Church (the Second Vatican Council). Thousands of priests worldwide saw the ambiguity and ecumenical BS that came out that council and rather than succumb to practices and beliefs they knew were wrong, those priests simply avoided the blasphemy and heresy and retired (walked away) from it all.
The Vetus Ordo Mass does not look the same today as it did in the 1950s, thank God. In the years since Vatican II, both forms of the Roman Rite have drifted closer together, even among the most arrogant liberals and stubborn traditionalists

This is an awesome video. In the part when you say that the Latin Mass seems hard to pull off you need to take in consideration that this was the same mass said by Fracis Xavier in India, Malaysia and Japan. The same mass said by Bartolome de las Casas in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. This is the mass that converted thousands of people to Christianity despite being in a totally alien language. The fact that the Latin Mass is "hard" makes it easier for the priests to perform because there aren't many exceptions unlike the Novus Ordo. The Latin Misal of 1960 is easier to figure out in the calendar than the 1970.

@@GospelSimplicity That's a legitimate concern, there isn't always incense available, a choir, little missals.But what's most important to catholics is not the splendorousity of the mass but the belief that Jesus himself is present in the bread and the wine. Without that nothing else in the church makes sense.

So true, Vincenzo. That's why it is called "catholic" which means "universal". You could go anywhere in the world and the Mass was the same. Not so now.
I am really glad you went back and were able to look into the Mass a little more. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Please ignore the online nastiness. These battles only seem to play out on semi-anonymous social media. The internet is not real life. I can only speak for myself but I've never gotten into a nasty fight over liturgy in real life! Also, don't give up on your quest to attend an Eastern Catholic liturgy! They are beautiful and while I am truly a Westerner at heart I split time between Latin Masses and Eastern liturgies. The beauty of the Catholic Church is that we have all the traditions of the Apostolic faith. The East still has a strong spirituality that was once prevalent in the West as well but needs to be recovered (I really think the lack of spirituality is a cause of the fighting.)

Beautiful video. I was born and raised Catholic but, had no defense for why I was Catholic so in college I went to a variety of different Protestant churches and engaged with some truly wonderful Christians. I love them, their enthusiasm and dedication and always will. I later married a Catholic man and out of respect and love for him, agreed to attend Mass with him, since he would attend the Protestant services for me. Then I read a book by Matthew Kelly and it dawned on me that I was looking for God to conform to a mold I had created for him. I wanted to worship God how He wanted to be worshipped as He revealed to us through scripture. This sent me on a spiritual journey involving the study of the early church and the early church fathers which landed me back into the Catholic Church with “a solid defense for the hope I have within me”. I’m very touched by your desire to encourage dialogue that would unite all Christians. Because we are ALL Christians who love and believe in Christ as the son of God. And that should draw us together! God bless you and what you are doing.

As one who’s searched many different religions looking for where I belong I want to say thank you. You’re the first person I’ve met that’s shared my view on getting to understand something before deciding on it, that we all need to first and foremost love each other and thank you thank you for giving an honest review without bashing other religions!!! This is how we all come together and communicate by listening not pointing fingers. I’ve found there is some beauty and truths in all religions I’ve studied.
I am 25, and a cradle Catholic. Grew up in a normal sized family with devout parents; the NO was all I knew. Only in the last 3 or so years have I become more traditional, and I have been exclusively TLM for about 2 years. What caused me to change to where I am now? When I first encountered so-called "radical traditionalists" I thought they were crazy, or at least disloyal to the Church. Yet, I found repeatedly that I could not answer their criticisms of the Novus Ordo (this they did without denying its validity.) I began to read about the history of both the 1960s reform that produced the NO and the history of the liturgy in general. I found that in actual fact, the TLM goes at least as far back as the 3rd Century, and that the NO was composed specifically with a view to placating Protestants. It's certainly not a bad thing to try and accommodate our separated brethren like Austin, but the solemn worship of God is also certainly not the place to do it. For any who are just curiously scrolling the comment section and read this, understand: it's not about "liturgy wars" or "divisive Catholics" quarreling as ridiculously and pettily as sports fans do. *Rather, at stake is the very identity of the Church; what it is to be Catholic.* If you are patient enough to do the reading required, you will come to see that the allegedly rad trads are right (*not the sedevancantists*), and that we should all return to the Traditional Latin Mass, the Mass of the Ages. A fantastic book to read about the TLM and why you should attend it if you are able to is "Reclaiming Our Roman Catholic BIrthright: the Genius and Timelessness of the Latin Mass" by Dr. Peter Kwasiewski. Can't recommend it highly enough
I would also like to add that, despite being someone who attends Novus Ordo, the TLM is superior in splendor simply because it is more uniform in rigid in execution, thus liturgical abuses are less common and unity of worship is maintained. Ideally, I would prefer the Novus Ordo simply be amended with stricter guidelines towards reverence. The Novus Ordo is very practical, it’s the type of mass that would work even under persecution, and thus I think that it is ultimately best suited for the Church in response to the hostility of the current secularized world. Proponents of the Latin Mass are upset over liturgical abuses that happened in the 60s onward due to the ambiguity of the documents on the celebration of the Novus Ordo. They see this as the reason for not only the fall in Church attendance and apostasy, but also for problems within the Church (priests and lay people going strictly against doctrine, many not even believing in the real presence). The same problem is happening in Protestant churches, like the Methodist church. With those churches, schism happens and doctrine is changed. With the Catholic Church, doctrine does not change. This means that people simply schism because we see doctrine as revealed by scripture and taught by the magisterium as eternal. After all, Christ is the Truth, and Christ does not change, therefore Truth himself shall never change.
Great explanation. Your story sounds very similar to mine. When I first attended the Latin Mass during advent last year, it was like meeting a long lost relative I'd always heard about. The connection was immediate, it all made sense. I now attend my local FSSP parish which follows the 1962 Roman Missal exclusively, and it's truly deepening my faith.
Finally, some one who puts things into a more clear perspective, thank you. Most people who accuse me of being divisive or a TLM fanatic dont really seem to understand their own faith, and just want a faith that goes along with what they want in life instead of what God wants for them in order to lead their souls to eternal life.

For me, the Latin vs Novus Ordo debate is interesting. Both are valid forms of the Mass and accepted by the Vatican, but what draws me to the Latin side is the fact that this is the mass of our ancestors and the early Church. For centuries, our Catholic brothers and sisters have been attending Latin mass, and really, if it's not broke, don't fix it.
Actually, if we study the existing historical liturgies that are older than the Tridentine mass, we might end up thinking that the early church eucharistic celebration prabably was more like Novus Ordo than the Tridentine mass.
Having attended Byzantine (one form of eastern) Mass while being a seminarian in the Roman Rite, you were on the right track trying to find one. The building is different as well as the Mass, just be prepared for a lot of standing, no kneeling, and longer; it's from a different culture. As St. Pope John Paul II said, we need both the left and right lungs of the Church. Thank you for your hard work in this, I truly appreciate it. BTW, have you read or gotten "The Fourth Cup" by Scott Hahn, or "Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist" by Brant Pitre? If not, I'd love to send you those.

This is interesting but i cant watch you tomorrow for i will be working, i will watch the video later in the evening. I grow up with Novus Ordo Mass and I still love it and attend on weekdays, I also go to Latin Mass every wednesday afternoon and I love it too but I am now attending regularly every Sunday the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy not because of the "type" of worship but the Eastern Catholic spirituality drawn me into them.
I know what you mean. While I was in seminary, one of my professors was a dual-rite priest, and he pastored a small Ruthenian Byzantine parish about 2 hours away that he invited us to once a month. I'm grateful there's a Byzantine monastery only an hour from me now!
Catholic infighting *sigh* was literally one of the things that I went and talked with my priest about. As a former protestant I literally said "I thought y'all were all united" 🤣 He laughed at me......but his perspective was interesting he told me: "Debate and disagreements are healthy for any family as long as everyone knows when to draw the line put differences aside and come together as a family. The important thing is we work it out, we recognize there can be many right ways and we don't break apart, we are all Catholic." That really hit me hard, and convicted me a bit since I have church hopped because I didn't like this or that. I am shocked at how many different schools of thought there is on various subjects. As for Mass there really is so much good in both ❤ and each church has it's own cultural flare which is so fun considering how many different cultures are under that "catholic" umbrella.
The reverence of the Tridentine Mass seems to me to be a very important aspect of the purpose of the Mass, which is to worship God. I grew up in the novus ordo, but once I saw the Tridentine Mass, there was just no comparison and no going back.

If we are Catholics, and we claim with great zeal that Mary is the new ark that will carry us to the New Jerusalem, both traditionalists and modernists must take a clue from the first ark very seriously in understanding that God demanded Noah to bring into the ark both clean and unclean into the ark. All living creatures that sought to be preserved. Vatican II was an answer to Masonic Communism which seeks to pervert and divide all things. When all is exposed, his filthy shedding will be the trail that leads back to the foxes holes, who have brought ruin to the garden since the beginning. Trust me. The in-fighting is very off-putting for Catholics as well. My experience as a Catholic convert in Denmark, where Catholics are a tiny minority, is that the issue of extraordinary vs. ordinary form is something that mostly happens online. There has always been different forms of the Mass, so why it has to be such a divisive issue is beyond me. From what you describe, the Novus Ordo Mass (or Mass of St. Paul VI as I believe its proper name is) at my parish is somewhere in-between what you have experienced: Lots of altar servers, big procession, incence, bells, the whole thing, but using the Novus Ordo form.
Its because in the novus ordo, the Mass was decreased, or things were taken away. In the changes that occurred over time in the Traditional Latin Mass, were to add in the reverence and glory to God. Thoes changes also carried the mark of infallibility from the Church councils, while the new Mass that followed the Vatican 2 council, explicitly did not hold the mark of infallibility. The only changes that took place in the Church history, that are even close to V2 and the new Mass, have gone down in history as the great heresies of the church.
Great video! I converted from Protestantism to Catholicism 7 years ago. Maybe you've already done this, but I think a good next step for you in researching Catholicism would be reading the early Church Fathers, especially the seven letters of Saint Ignatius of Antioch. They're a good read and super enlightening on what the early Church was like. By the way, you hit the benefits of the Traditional Latin Mass as opposed to the Novis Ordo on the head perfectly!

You display a great deal of humility, maturity and most importantly, love. People like you are very inspirational and I can definitely see you becoming a Catholic in the future. I found my way back to the Church after my conversion to Christianity in 2015.
While both are technically valid, (I attend both, mainly the TLM) only one form, the Mass of the Ages, is being banned, blatantly against Canon Law.. As the exploding heresies and paganism from the Vatican continue, the differences will likely become more glaring in time,. SOME of the things that are occurring in certain N.O.Masses are worthy of protest, opposition, and conflict and all the passion that goes behind it. Jesus told us to expect certain conflicts. It might not be so much that we disagree but how we do so. (For instance, No person kneeling to receive Communion on the tongue at a Novus order Mass should be publicly chastised by the priest and denied Communion, yet it happens. ) . There are plenty of other examples, but there is a difference in even passionate opposition and bickering. Blessings. .
I must say I appreciate your honesty, and your openness. It is very rare to find somebody who keeps these things at their core like you do. The biggest difference between the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo is not the reverence, the beauty, the politics, or even the language they are said in. These are all the results of what is at the core of the Latin Mass and the core of the Novus Ordo that makes them different. The core of the Latin Mass is all the focus is put on God, the Eucharist. We pray towards the Eucharist who we believe is God in the tabernacle. We sing songs about God like Come Most Holy Trinity. All the beauty and the reverence is put in to increase the focus on God. The rubrics of the Mass ( directions) are strictly followed with no room for change, which requires people to humble themselves before God. The core of the Novus Ordo is most, and sometimes all, the focus is put on the people. The priest faces the people, the homily is directed towards the people with things like social justice, the people sing about themselves with songs like "we are the light of the world" and the people are encouraged to change the Mass around to whatever they are most comfortable with, so it further puts the focus on themselves and by doing only what they are comfortable with, they do not need the humble themselves before God. The Latin Mass focuses on God, the Novus Ordo focuses on the people. The results of this is the Novus Ordo parishes are closing down at the rate of 15 to 50% a year depending upon which diocese we look at. People lose their faith in God if they are always encouraged to think about and focus on themselves. At the Latin Mass parishes, they are growing at the rate of 50 to 100% every year, this is because the faith grows when people are encouraged to focus on God. There certainly is currently a debate/fight between those who support the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo, I'm not concerned with the fight or debate taking place because it is kind of irrelevant when in a few more years all the Novus Ordo parishes will be extinct, so to me personally, the debate is silly, like debating the best way of arranging the chairs on a sinking ship. I'm glad you long for Christian Unity, I too long for this. I could be wrong, but I don't think it will ever happen without Divine intervention. The reason is that though we have some things in common like we all love Jesus, what we have in common pretty much ends there because no one can agree on how to interpret the gospel. Everyone has their own way, and since they disagree, they split up. Everyone agrees there is only one correct Eternal Word of God in the Bible, but no one agrees on what the context of the Bible is saying. Catholics believe that only the Church can correctly interpret the Bible, Martin Luther disagreed and after fifteen hundred years of Christian Unity, he decided that he could decide what the Bible meant by himself and broke away from the Catholic Church, and of course Christians who disagreed with Martin Luther broke away from him. And now there are over 50,000 different denominations of protestantism. So there cannot be unity, until all Christians decided they cannot interpret the Bible for themselves, and come back to the Church. Until then, every time somebody disagrees with somebody else, they will simply break away and come up with their own interpretation for the Bible. Lastly, don't be too concerned about patriotic songs sung in a Church. Patriotic songs are pleasing to God because patriotism is love of neighbor. ( I would say the patriotic song is good as long as it is singing about praising God, and not praising ourselves) Politics is important to God because politics determines what the laws of man will be, and God wants the laws of man to reflect His own laws, for our own good.

I'm a baby catholic, having converted less than 3 months ago, but just wanted to say, if you are going deeper into studying Catholicism it is good that you know that we can be divisive as well and that we have our family fights. But don't let the weird dividing lines destract you from the beauty of Catholicism. There aren't "traditionalist" and "liberal" catholics, thought some may dissagree, but we are all catholics, which means universal - we are one huge family! I personally am ony dreaming to attend a High Latin Mass, and there is no doubt in my mind of its deep beauty and tradition. Just don't get too mixed up in the Novus Ordo vs Latin Mass fight. It still kinda freaks me out and I never liked when converting, because it is sadly often discussed without charity. Like you said, very off-putting, it was for me as well, so I try to either not watch that content or at east both "sides", because I tend to slip to the very conservative and traditional side by temperment. But do research into the Catholic Church, we have a huge intelectual, artistic, literary treasury of beautiful traditions, writings, doctrines, dogmas, saints and so much more! I know a lot of Catholics that only go to the Tridentine Masses and criticizes a lot the Novus Ordo Masses and the II Vatican Council. I'd say that both Masses are good and have their own target audience. And I'd agree that the Novus Ordo Mass is theologically less strong, and that many the reforms done by the CVII have backfired since church attendance only dropped since then and the ones that stay have a weaker theological background. I myself was raised in the Novus Ordo Mass and ended up leaving the Catholic Church (first to no religion at all, then to Islam, then to Pentecostalism then to Protestantism). But I recently came back to the Church thanks in great part to the Tridentine Mass. But where I live it's not available, so I go to a Novus Ordo Mass (with Charismatic Renovation tendencies, which is not my thing, but it's ok). So I go to both Masses with no problems. And I also have things to say about CVII and Pope Francis but it was still a valid Council and he is still the Pope, so they should be treat as such. But also try going to a Coptic Orthodox Church, I find it very interesting. Ten Minute Bible Hour just made 4 videos about them.
We are called to be united in one body in Christ, the Novus Ordo mass does not created unity, as priests are free to change up many parts of the mass, any type of music is allowed, desecration occurs. Missals change every few years, there's projector screens now above altars. The tridentine mass goes back to the earliest times of the church, it unites us to the past, and made saints. Saints died as marytrs to avoid going to a protestant mass in the vernacular.
I'm going to agree with the sentiment of going to Divine Liturgies from the eastern churches, but why go Coptic Orthodox when one can go Coptic Catholic, Syro-Malabar Catholic, Greek Catholic, etc.... I had a good laugh when The Minute Bible Hour went to the Greek Orthodox cathedral in Denver, and the priest, when explaining theological matters, always went to the default, “but we're not Catholic” so as to distinguish itself in separation.

Good evening, some of the differences from latin tridentine mass to novus ordo are the following: the latin tridentine mass, the priest and the people are facing together to the Lord which is the Eucharist in the tabernacle who is the center of the mass while the novus ordo, the priest is facing to the people, while facing back to tabernacle, where the Eucharist is there. Onother differences, the Latin Tridentine mass offers the sacrifice of the Lord in the Calvary as the reinactment of the sacrifices of the Lord in the Calvary, while the Novus Ordo offers the fruits of the land.
Haha liked your video a lot, but had to laugh when you said you couldn’t imagine the Latin Mass not in a beautiful church. I wish everyone was a lucky to have a Latin Mass at place like St. John Cantius, but for decades the TLM survived in basements and rented out hotel conference rooms. Even today, in many if not most Dioceses, Latin Mass parishes are treated like the black sheep of the Catholic community. They are given parishes in the worst part of town, often in closed churches or converted Protestant churches. One day, I am sure that the TLM will return to the glorious churches, but even in the most austere setting, the Latin Mass is a beautiful, holy sacrifice. It in many ways is humbling to witness the beautiful rites in sparse conditions. It is a reminder that the Mass has always and will always survive.
You know, I guess I really hadn't thought of that. Obviously my incredibly limited experience is playing into my bias here. It would be interesting to experience it in some place so radically different.

The Lutheran Church and all Protestant churches dont have, can't have, or experience The Real Presence of the Eucharist at their church/service because they don't have Apostolic Succession which was given by Christ to his Apostles the first priests that has been handed down with unbroken continuity to this day.

The parish I attend does of and ef masses, and I think that is the way it should be. I dislike sorting Catholics into factions - I'm a Catholic, I can attend the OF, the EF or a byzantine divine liturgy if I wish. (yes, mea culpa, hypocrisy , I did factionalise and say 'rad trads'. But by that I mean obnoxious and uncharitable people on the Internet, not the vast majority of people who appreciate a traditional liturgy.)

Austin: Thanks for the very interesting video. I’m glad you had a great experience at both liturgies and am also delighted that people were so hospitable to you. Having been born just prior to Vatican II, I had only fleeting memories of the Latin Mass. Some close family members have never accepted the changes in the Liturgy and so I’ve gone to the Latin Mass with them on several occasions. My experience was that, while it was beautiful, it was not my preference, at all. But for those who prefer it, I am glad that both are available. What me sad are the Liturgy wars that continue unabated in my church. Division and separation are never from God. Greatly looking forward to your attendance at an Orthodox Divine Liturgy! Where I am in California, Catholics and Orthodox have great relationships and pastors from both churches meet for dinner regularly. It’s quite lovely to see. Prayers for you as your continue your seminary formation!!

I literally only became a Catholic, well yeah by the grace of God, but also because of the openness of Vatican II, i saw the love of God in so many people as a protestant that i just refused associations that claimed only they would “get saved”, well, cults. This view in the Church changed by Vatican II and is the right approach to Church, thanks to the Holy Spirit for moving the magister’s heart on this. I can testify the sacraments are 100% true and the graces received by Mary and the rosary are as well, i wish everyone was a Catholic but i know this probably cannot be anymore, we should just join Christ in his priestly prayer that we all might be one.
Catholic means universal Jesus wanted one church, so should we but we have so much work to do on both sides and videos like this help that cause. That's beautiful.
I think it's quite interesting to note that the fight between Extraordinary and Ordinary forms of the mass is only relevant in the US. Here in Europe it's only anecdotal and really tied to fundamentalist groups. In fact, outside the US I have absolutely never seen a Catholic woman wearing a veil to mass, that's still quite an impact to me. Here in Spain I've never listened to anybody questioning Vatican II, the only people I know who do that are Americans. As universal as the Catholic church is, there are always some idiosincrasias on each country, and the US Catholic Church is one of the most "unique".
@@GospelSimplicity I was about to comment something similar. I'm from latinamerica and noticed that infight it's only happening in USA So, ignore these people. The value of mass is still there for both forms, and for the novus irdo value relies on the humble way to evangelize everyone. Imagine a humble town in a poor country with a humble church with roof made by palm trees and a priest coming to bring mass for people who barely has something to eat, hearing about God in their own languages soothing their spirit. I know how good is the Latin mass as well (I myself knows Latin and grown with the old way) but the ones fighting over it are forgetting the Church charity.

I'm in the UK and maybe we just have a more High Church liturgical culture because I've simply never seen the sorts of things that Americans complain about the ordinary form. (ie, I've never seen aa 'guitar mass'). So either they are exaggerated, or the US really went in a radical direction (perhaps inspired by evangelicals?)
Hello Carlos. I think what you're commenting on is the differences in attitudes that can be observed in individualistic cultures. Some people have got to fight about everything as if their very identity depends on it. I enjoy meeting Jesus Christ in both and any Mass available. I appreciate a Latin Mass if I happen to be abroad and I don't speak the vernacular there. That's where the Latin Mass can come in handy. As far as preferences, I am thankful for the vernacular. I don't want to struggle to understand every nuance of the Mass, I just want to dive into the ocean of God's love.
These divisions is the US are founded by the SSPX schismatics and their extreme views of Vatican II. This is how it spread and why it is mostly here. They were declared schism because they tried to ordain bishops independent of Rome.
I appreciate this video, thank you! After Vatican II they took out a lot of statues and altars and went to boring paint jobs in churches, for whatever reason. In my humble opinion I think we should build Catholic Churches like they used to, in the form of a cross and with lots of symbolism and artistic beauty, now most new churches are void of that, and look like stadiums sometimes. But the whole war on Novus Ordo vs. Latin Mass is very tiresome to the Catholics that accept the authority of the church and recognize both rites as valid and means for peoples spiritual life. I myself love both rites, however it must be noted with the Novus Ordo cake much liturgical abuses, such as “clown masses” (yes it’s a real thing, it’s doesn’t happen anymore though) and priest riding up to the altar in motorcycles or whatever, yes much of it happened and still does to a certain extent. I live in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, and they just had a problem with a parish giving communion out in little baggies but that is, in a politically incorrect word, heresy. Anyways I’m off topic, the church in a sense, is really hurting right now, there is much division, and corruption in the Vatican, and people are leaving because of the sexual abuse crisis too. So this type of dialogue between Protestants helps, it helps to know we have brothers and sisters on the other side support us in our tough times, we are a suffering church, and if Protestants and Catholics can get together and be united (without trying to change each other’s churches) that I think will help out all of us. While I agree that checking out these things, especially the Latin Mass, is cool for a one-time adventure, would you like to go to Latin Mass for a month, or a few more times, to have a more in-depth experience about it? i think we both agree, that Latin Masses cannot be fully comprehended, or maybe even more important than that, experienced fully by visiting it just once.

In France, most people going to Novus Ordo Masses are over 70.

The differences in the Masses are further explained in the documentary Mass of the Ages, but also by a very good video by Fr. Ripperger (Traditions OF the Liturgy - not AND). I’m a born and raised practicing Catholic. I grew up in the Novus Ordo and recently started going to the Latin mass. The more I read about the changes in the mass post Vatican 2, the more I realized the problems with the Novus Ordo mass. The biggest problem I have is “extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist” and receiving the Eucharist on the hand. In the Latin mass, Our Lord is received kneeling and on the tongue, as our hands are not consecrated and should therefore not touch the Host. Girl altar boys, holding hands during the Our Father, immodesty and inappropriate dress code at mass, lack of sermons teaching about the reality of Hell and instead most people believing “we are all going to Heaven” and happy clappy hymns are just a few of the problems I personally have with the Novus Ordo Mass. Mass is not about the people, it’s about God and his sacrifice at Calvary. The Latin mass is about that. Anyways, these are my views. God bless you all ❤️

Even in Novus Ordo you may receive on the tongue, and you can dress yourself and your family modestly. I also, though, agree with the liturgical music being nonliturgical. My favorite mass is at the Carmelite retreat house, El Carmelo in Redlands, CA. Although Novus Ordo in general style, much of the mass is in Latin, including the hymns. Almost all of the masses conclude with Salve Regina. This is one of the things I love about being a Novice in the Order of Carmelite Discalced Seculars. (Check out a secular or tertiary order of your choice if you are so led. For me it is coming home, and captures my heart in ways indescribable.) Daily Liturgy of the Hours, Lauds, Vespers and Compline can be found chanted in Latin on RUclips, if you prefer. We use English, though in our Council. The chapel is small and beautiful, with newly installed altar rails. These are situated such that a participant in the mass step up to the opening in the gate, as Mary is the Gate to Jesus in the Sacrificial Bread and Wine, which become the precious Body and Blood. And those of us who wish to kneel may step to the side to kneel on a small cushion. Very often, though, I notice the friars kneeling on the hard marble. The silent retreats are wonderful, and are clearly not open tp the public during this time of isolation. We DO have Latin Mass in Ontario, CA, with a sign outside before entering the chapel saying (not suggesting) that veils (which will be provided if a woman does not wear her own) and modest skirts, etc., must be worn... with no other immodest or irreverent features.... No pants or slacks are accepted for women. No jeans or t-shirts either. You simply will not be admitted at all. Many love the mass there, and I know these may be found all over the country. The Carmelite mass I described is Novus Ordo, but without the loose and irreverent clapping and nonsense. I'm with you on all of that stuff.

I can tell you what converted me to Catholicism was finding the real presence in the mass. It was an ugly and not well done ordinary form. I had been around such services having been a Lutheran. What I was shocked by is the absolute presence of the divine. The real presence was like some kind of beacon to my heart. How could I turn away from it? It doesn’t matter the mass type, Christ is truly present. What a wonderful gift God has given mankind.

Yes, I hope you are given the opportunity to know Christ first hand through the real presence. Without that the mass is an archaic ritual or ugly variant of the Lutheran service. With it even the most base mass becomes a unification between heaven and earth. Oh, by the way, the real presence is in the Eucharist of the Orthodox Church. I find their liturgy beautiful. Eastern rite Catholics do the same liturgy. Liturgy is like a love poem around the true presence of Christ. There are many ways to say I love you.

Paul Thiele I do know Lutherans do believe in the true presence but I never felt it there nor at the time did I probably believe in it (I was a child and our confirmation preparation was truly horrid). This is besides the point that I now believe that the Lutherans do not in fact have the true presence and their communion is invalid.
High Mass is actually not that hard to pull-off. You just need a few talented people, and it's not long before others are asking, "teach me how."

In a way, so many of the things I liked about high mass coincided with the incredible physical space. All together it created a really interesting experience.
@@GospelSimplicity The space is important for context, but I've seen high Masses on porches, under tents, in gyms, in circular churches. The movements of the rite have the power to generate an ordered sense of space, even when the space is void.

I was raised in the Novus Ordo mass and it discouraged me and then in high school I turned to being a non-denominational Christian. But then my home catholic parish began to offer the Extraordinary Form (traditional Latin mass) and that CHANGED MY LIFE. I am happily a Trad Catholic ☺️☺️

I've been a Roman Catholic since baptised as a infant. Its been 2 years since I found the tradition and beauty in the Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin Mass) and I have not gone back to Novus Ordo since. I am now a practicing Traditional Catholic because of it too.

That is the beautiful trouble of a unified Church. In protestantism these factions would be in entirely different churches - in Catholicism we need to make it work.

I see us as having respect for the personhood of each other, respect for the different charisms we are called to, and appreciation for how deeply we each love God. One of the great problems of today is that few know how to discuss counts of view. Let it not be a lost art. Vatican I caused splits so did Vatican II and many others in between. Lets stop trying to promote false imagery. We need to come together in Faith and Faithful Love. Recently found your channel and have enjoyed your videos. I'm Catholic so this subject is dear to my heart. I grew up only knowing the Novus Ordo Missae and only heard about the Latin Mass from my parents which they experienced in their youth. I started attending TLM last year and it's deepening my faith and I won't turn back. I struggle to go to NO mass now as there is just a general lack of reverence towards the Eucharist and most of the priests preach liberal ideology in their sermons. It's always refreshing when a Protestant treats the RCC with respect in dialogue so nice work as that is commendable. Some of my favorite Catholic RUclips content is from former Protestant converts, they always seem to make great Catholics :) Be warned, the more you seek truth and study Church History, you'll be attracted to either the RC or EasternOrthodox Church. Christopher Grillo I think there are wide variance in the NO. Like your parents I grew up with Latin and I love it. But my NO parish is very reverent and about as traditional as one can be with NO. The church I attend when visiting my son in Ohio makes me crazy! No kneelers even How can you not kneel at the consecration. They even have a separate chapel not in the sanctuary where they keep the Eucharist when it’s not Mass. Say what? Makes me nuts. Also along with a few others I now wear a head covering at Mass. Yes we need reverence in the Lords presence.
@@janpetsch620 Hi Jan. I feel the frustration about your son's parish. I definitely agree that the NO can be celebrated reverently. For example, Saint John Cantius where Gospel Simplicity went does just about the most reverent NO mass I've seen. Unfortunately, the vast majority of NO parishes practice liturgical abuse.
Christopher Grillo yes, the novus ordo can be done reverently. Makes me wonder where churches are spiritually when they care so little about the liturgy. We should act like we are on our first date with our dream girl, our soul mate, who is way above our hopes, who for some reason still agreed to a date. Do we come to the date 30 minutes late and unshowered? Do we just kind of wing things? Or do we show her we respect her? How much more the church as the bride of Christ should respect the bridegroom. And, to be not miss understood it doesn’t mean a strict formalism and rigid conservatism. If you were poor and having to go on this date with your dream girl maybe you only can afford the street food from your neighborhood and you buy it and walk with your beloved along the ocean, even such a simple date can be done reverently and impress. Why do we expect the lord to chase after us like we are some prize? The fact that he does only shows he sees more in us than we see in ourselves.
LCC is less common. Latin Catholic Church which is not common naming.

I’m so excited for this video! I have a deep love for both NO and Latin Masses, as well as the Divine Liturgy of my Eastern brethren. They are all miraculous, from the simple to the ornate, because Jesus humbly appears at every single one. I’m sorry you have to be a witness to the in-fighting. Please keep in mind that we are a giant family eating the Heavenly Feast at a giant table, and like many family meals you will find a mixture of love and opposition, beauty and pain. We are a huge group of sinners sitting down together. The beauty is that regardless of form, we are all together with the saints and angels when we are in the Mass/Divine Liturgy. My long-distance friends and I, when parting, like to say, “I’ll see you in the Eucharist.” God bless you!

@@oggiep3915 I'll agree they are both Latin Rite, and that *legally speaking* they are both Roman Rite. However I do not think the NO is objectively the same rite as the traditional Roman one, on account of all the differences it has. Rather, it is, to use Msgr. Klaus Gamber's expression, "a modern Papal rite" that has some points of commonalty with the preceding tradition. What the NO is in reality is a new liturgy, crafted by a committee and animated by the pure will of a Pope. This in sharp contrast to all other Eastern and Western rites, which have been organically made in the womb of the Church from her beginning. That is why, ultimately, it is dying and must die. Avmetal branch grafted onto a tree cannot but eventually fall off, because not being actually a part of the tree, it is not sustained by its life, and is necessarily left behind in the long run.
Your experience is really spirit lead. To be introduced to the Latin mass and have such an understanding is quite enlightening and encouraging, especially for a young person. There is a reason the Latin mass is making a strong come back, its truth, beauty, and richness of spirit, amazing!

I went to a Catholic Church for about a year or two before converting. Every single time I went, I felt glowing, accepted, warm, just generally where I should be. ❤️❤️❤️ Props to the priest who passed away after he helped me when I was homeless and he was the only one from any church that would even try. Everyone saw me as a lost cause. I was kicked out of a Lutheran Church. The priest believed in me and I failed him. But what he did changed me and it was a slow burn, not a total engulfing. I hope God blesses him a lot for making me feel worthy of some mercy. I became responsible. I went to college. I had kids. I have a house now. Thank God he sent me Fr Hughs. Never count anyone out.

David Watson this is true. It was the vernacular 1500 years ago. However, it was not the vernacular 1300 years ago. Or 1000 years ago. Or 700 years ago. Or 300 years ago. Yet, countless mystics and saints and converts write with an endless vigor, one that carried them to heaven, about the objective fruits of the Mass of the Ages. We take for granted just how old the Mass is, and just how much history it holds. It is the Mass of the Saints, and developed naturally. The Novus Ordo Missae is, as a matter of historical fact, not in continuity with the Tridentine Rite.

There's just something about you that's so genuine and kindred! I attended Novus Ordo Mass since early 70s! I prefer it because it's more inclusive💜 Latin Mass to me is a once in awhile treat. Mass at our church is reverent and beautiful! Good luck on your voyage little brother🙏

I want to start by thanking you for your openness to giving Catholocs a fair shake. Too often, we are assailed with prejudice, so your perspective is a breath if fresh air, and it is appreciated.
I have been assisting at the Traditional Latin Mass for a little over a year, after exclusively Nivus Ordo for more than 20 years. It is the richness and beauty that you mentioned that appreciate so much about the TLM. It certainly does take some getting used to, and it does require some effort to learn a bit if Latin. But, in the end, for me, it such an enriching experience that I can't fully describe.
Your description of your experiences are great. I think you really hit on some very important factors of both Forms, and the tension you find between the two groups is really spot on. I prefer to evangelize in a more positive way that will, hopefully, attract people to the beauty and reverence of traditiinal Catholic worship, but there are many traditionalists who maybe aren't as kind or gentle.
Either way, thanks again for approaching us with openness and without the common prejudices.

You are very truthful and insightful. May I suggest something of great importance you may have missed. The TLM focus is not on us but on God. We go to TLM firstly to honor and adore our God. In novus ordo, man is the center, and the importance seems to be on what we get out of the Mass. The altar is moved away from the wall, and the priest faces the people. In TLM the priest faces God, not the people, and he prays to God for the people.

I'm a former Evangelical Protestant who went to Novus Ordo (orthodox Franciscan parish) and I've been attending TLM (Traditional Latin Mass) at an FSSP Parish which is just so beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend TLM, and definitely definitely go with a Missal in hand if you can (Latin with English next to it so you know what's going on) and I'd recommend the St. Andrew Daily Missal strongly. Good to see more Protestants being open to TLM. So beautiful!!!

Catholic Theologian Scott Hahn had a very interesting interview on "Mass of the Ages", which is a very traditional group, talking about what is so good about both the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo. The interviewer seemed to want to emphasise the TLM and clearly disagreed with the positives about the NO, but Scott Hahn has so much wisdom on Catholicism and what we need for unity

Novus Ordo was easier for you because it is in fact very much protestant mass. In Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) you are not partcicpating you are a witness to Holy Sacrifice of Lord Jesus. You sense supernatural in this Holy Mass.

Timestamp 11:31: I listened to this video in July, 2021. I was taken aback by your comment about mixing politics with the Mass when a patriotic song was sung at Mass on Labor Day weekend. As a life long, cradle Catholic, the song “America the Beautiful” is typically sung during all Masses on Memorial Day weekend, the weekend closest to Independence Day, and Labor Day weekend. Singing this song is not mixing politics with the Mass. It’s honoring our nation and praying that God will continue to shed His grace on it. It’s not political, rather, it’s very appropriate and necessary to ask for God’s blessings on our country and to be grateful we were born in it. 🇺🇸

I so agree with you. We should not fight about which language we use at mass. I have travelled overseas when we were allowed. And attended mass in French, German, Turkish and of course English. Because there is a set of different prayers and routines( don't like that word but can't think of a better one) that means you can feel at home no matter where we are. I love our English mass and find it so reverential while accessible as well. And the depth and amount is scripture used at each mass just feeds my heart.
If I could make a comparison I have found my h more human input and much less scripture in the protestant services I have attended.
We do concentrate on words of scripture over human words as a matter of priority. That's why our homilies should be short not too long.
Um yeah, "the smoke of Satan that infiltrated the Catholic Church" was the modernization changes from the ecumenism of the 1960s in the Second Vatican Council. THAT is the source and reason for the ongoing 'infighting' as you call it. Luckily, by the grace of God, the American bishops nowadays aren't nearly as militant to lie and intimidate parishoners who asked about the Latin Mass and a demand for it. For example, in the 1980s (especially) and the `90s, the bastardization of even the Novus Ordo showed that modern Catholicism was off the rails -- clown and polka masses, placing statues of Buddha on the central table during public meetings in the sacristy, etc. The bishop our our diocese was so liberal and anti-traditional Latin Mass that he lied publicly about it's validity and said it was "outright unlawful" by John Paul II. It was only after this deceitful old coot passed away that the new bishop allowed more of the writings and word from Rome to prove this was never the case. It's really disturbing what 1 'evil' person in power can do, let alone what a room of 600 modernists can do to destroy so much of the Roman Catholic Church (the Second Vatican Council). Thousands of priests worldwide saw the ambiguity and ecumenical BS that came out that council and rather than succumb to practices and beliefs they knew were wrong, those priests simply avoided the blasphemy and heresy and retired (walked away) from it all.
The Vetus Ordo Mass does not look the same today as it did in the 1950s, thank God. In the years since Vatican II, both forms of the Roman Rite have drifted closer together, even among the most arrogant liberals and stubborn traditionalists

This is an awesome video. In the part when you say that the Latin Mass seems hard to pull off you need to take in consideration that this was the same mass said by Fracis Xavier in India, Malaysia and Japan. The same mass said by Bartolome de las Casas in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. This is the mass that converted thousands of people to Christianity despite being in a totally alien language. The fact that the Latin Mass is "hard" makes it easier for the priests to perform because there aren't many exceptions unlike the Novus Ordo. The Latin Misal of 1960 is easier to figure out in the calendar than the 1970.

@@GospelSimplicity That's a legitimate concern, there isn't always incense available, a choir, little missals.But what's most important to catholics is not the splendorousity of the mass but the belief that Jesus himself is present in the bread and the wine. Without that nothing else in the church makes sense.

These battles only seem to play out on semi-anonymous social media. The internet is not real life. I can only speak for myself but I've never gotten into a nasty fight over liturgy in real life!
Also, don't give up on your quest to attend an Eastern Catholic liturgy! They are beautiful and while I am truly a Westerner at heart I split time between Latin Masses and Eastern liturgies. The beauty of the Catholic Church is that we have all the traditions of the Apostolic faith. The East still has a strong spirituality that was once prevalent in the West as well but needs to be recovered (I really think the lack of spirituality is a cause of the fighting.)

Beautiful video. I was born and raised Catholic but, had no defense for why I was Catholic so in college I went to a variety of different Protestant churches and engaged with some truly wonderful Christians. I love them, their enthusiasm and dedication and always will. I later married a Catholic man and out of respect and love for him, agreed to attend Mass with him, since he would attend the Protestant services for me. Then I read a book by Matthew Kelly and it dawned on me that I was looking for God to conform to a mold I had created for him. I wanted to worship God how He wanted to be worshipped as He revealed to us through scripture. This sent me on a spiritual journey involving the study of the early church and the early church fathers which landed me back into the Catholic Church with “a solid defense for the hope I have within me”.
I’m very touched by your desire to encourage dialogue that would unite all Christians. Because we are ALL Christians who love and believe in Christ as the son of God. And that should draw us together! God bless you and what you are doing.

As one who’s searched many different religions looking for where I belong I want to say thank you. You’re the first person I’ve met that’s shared my view on getting to understand something before deciding on it, that we all need to first and foremost love each other and thank you thank you for giving an honest review without bashing other religions!!! This is how we all come together and communicate by listening not pointing fingers. I’ve found there is some beauty and truths in all religions I’ve studied.

I am 25, and a cradle Catholic. Grew up in a normal sized family with devout parents; the NO was all I knew. Only in the last 3 or so years have I become more traditional, and I have been exclusively TLM for about 2 years. What caused me to change to where I am now? When I first encountered so-called "radical traditionalists" I thought they were crazy, or at least disloyal to the Church. Yet, I found repeatedly that I could not answer their criticisms of the Novus Ordo (this they did without denying its validity.) I began to read about the history of both the 1960s reform that produced the NO and the history of the liturgy in general. I found that in actual fact, the TLM goes at least as far back as the 3rd Century, and that the NO was composed specifically with a view to placating Protestants. It's certainly not a bad thing to try and accommodate our separated brethren like Austin, but the solemn worship of God is also certainly not the place to do it.
For any who are just curiously scrolling the comment section and read this, understand: it's not about "liturgy wars" or "divisive Catholics" quarreling as ridiculously and pettily as sports fans do. *Rather, at stake is the very identity of the Church; what it is to be Catholic.* If you are patient enough to do the reading required, you will come to see that the allegedly rad trads are right (*not the sedevancantists*), and that we should all return to the Traditional Latin Mass, the Mass of the Ages.
A fantastic book to read about the TLM and why you should attend it if you are able to is "Reclaiming Our Roman Catholic BIrthright: the Genius and Timelessness of the Latin Mass" by Dr. Peter Kwasiewski. Can't recommend it highly enough

I would also like to add that, despite being someone who attends Novus Ordo, the TLM is superior in splendor simply because it is more uniform in rigid in execution, thus liturgical abuses are less common and unity of worship is maintained.
Ideally, I would prefer the Novus Ordo simply be amended with stricter guidelines towards reverence. The Novus Ordo is very practical, it’s the type of mass that would work even under persecution, and thus I think that it is ultimately best suited for the Church in response to the hostility of the current secularized world.
Proponents of the Latin Mass are upset over liturgical abuses that happened in the 60s onward due to the ambiguity of the documents on the celebration of the Novus Ordo. They see this as the reason for not only the fall in Church attendance and apostasy, but also for problems within the Church (priests and lay people going strictly against doctrine, many not even believing in the real presence).
The same problem is happening in Protestant churches, like the Methodist church. With those churches, schism happens and doctrine is changed. With the Catholic Church, doctrine does not change. This means that people simply schism because we see doctrine as revealed by scripture and taught by the magisterium as eternal. After all, Christ is the Truth, and Christ does not change, therefore Truth himself shall never change.
Great explanation. Your story sounds very similar to mine. When I first attended the Latin Mass during advent last year, it was like meeting a long lost relative I'd always heard about. The connection was immediate, it all made sense. I now attend my local FSSP parish which follows the 1962 Roman Missal exclusively, and it's truly deepening my faith.
The tlm also called tridentine mass goes far back to after the counsil of Trent, not the 3rd century, it's literally in the name.
Finally, some one who puts things into a more clear perspective, thank you. Most people who accuse me of being divisive or a
TLM fanatic dont really seem to understand their own faith, and just want a faith that goes along with what they want in life instead of what God wants for them in order to lead their souls to eternal life.
I am a traditional Catholic and I agree, no patriotic music at Mass. It’s not about nationalistic pride, it’s all about God our Creator in every way.

For me, the Latin vs Novus Ordo debate is interesting. Both are valid forms of the Mass and accepted by the Vatican, but what draws me to the Latin side is the fact that this is the mass of our ancestors and the early Church. For centuries, our Catholic brothers and sisters have been attending Latin mass, and really, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Physiel, the early church celebrated the Holy Mass in greek not latin.
Actually, if we study the existing historical liturgies that are older than the Tridentine mass, we might end up thinking that the early church eucharistic celebration prabably was more like Novus Ordo than the Tridentine mass.
Having attended Byzantine (one form of eastern) Mass while being a seminarian in the Roman Rite, you were on the right track trying to find one. The building is different as well as the Mass, just be prepared for a lot of standing, no kneeling, and longer; it's from a different culture. As St. Pope John Paul II said, we need both the left and right lungs of the Church.

This is interesting but i cant watch you tomorrow for i will be working, i will watch the video later in the evening. I grow up with Novus Ordo Mass and I still love it and attend on weekdays, I also go to Latin Mass every wednesday afternoon and I love it too but I am now attending regularly every Sunday the Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy not because of the "type" of worship but the Eastern Catholic spirituality drawn me into them.

I know what you mean. While I was in seminary, one of my professors was a dual-rite priest, and he pastored a small Ruthenian Byzantine parish about 2 hours away that he invited us to once a month. I'm grateful there's a Byzantine monastery only an hour from me now!
Catholic infighting *sigh* was literally one of the things that I went and talked with my priest about. As a former protestant I literally said "I thought y'all were all united" 🤣 He laughed at me......but his perspective was interesting he told me: "Debate and disagreements are healthy for any family as long as everyone knows when to draw the line put differences aside and come together as a family. The important thing is we work it out, we recognize there can be many right ways and we don't break apart, we are all Catholic." That really hit me hard, and convicted me a bit since I have church hopped because I didn't like this or that. I am shocked at how many different schools of thought there is on various subjects.
As for Mass there really is so much good in both ❤ and each church has it's own cultural flare which is so fun considering how many different cultures are under that "catholic" umbrella.

The reverence of the Tridentine Mass seems to me to be a very important aspect of the purpose of the Mass, which is to worship God. I grew up in the novus ordo, but once I saw the Tridentine Mass, there was just no comparison and no going back.

The Latin mass cannot change what has caused the horrors and the anguish of our generation. If trads are honest, they will admit that contraception and abortion could have brought all of this about alone. Trust and wait patiently. The infiltration of the clergy by Masons will prove it was the devil's biggest mistake, for his tail will get caught at the doors as he crawls his way out thinking that his work is finished and there will his head be crushed by the woman. When all is exposed, his filthy shedding will be the trail that leads back to the foxes holes, who have brought ruin to the garden since the beginning.

Trust me. The in-fighting is very off-putting for Catholics as well. My experience as a Catholic convert in Denmark, where Catholics are a tiny minority, is that the issue of extraordinary vs. ordinary form is something that mostly happens online. There has always been different forms of the Mass, so why it has to be such a divisive issue is beyond me. From what you describe, the Novus Ordo Mass (or Mass of St. Paul VI as I believe its proper name is) at my parish is somewhere in-between what you have experienced: Lots of altar servers, big procession, incence, bells, the whole thing, but using the Novus Ordo form.

Its because in the novus ordo, the Mass was decreased, or things were taken away.
In the changes that occurred over time in the Traditional Latin Mass, were to add in the reverence and glory to God.
Thoes changes also carried the mark of infallibility from the Church councils, while the new Mass that followed the Vatican 2 council, explicitly did not hold the mark of infallibility.
The only changes that took place in the Church history, that are even close to V2 and the new Mass, have gone down in history as the great heresies of the church.
Great video! I converted from Protestantism to Catholicism 7 years ago. Maybe you've already done this, but I think a good next step for you in researching Catholicism would be reading the early Church Fathers, especially the seven letters of Saint Ignatius of Antioch. They're a good read and super enlightening on what the early Church was like. By the way, you hit the benefits of the Traditional Latin Mass as opposed to the Novis Ordo on the head perfectly!

While both are technically valid, (I attend both, mainly the TLM) only one form, the Mass of the Ages, is being banned, blatantly against Canon Law.. As the exploding heresies and paganism from the Vatican continue, the differences will likely become more glaring in time,. SOME of the things that are occurring in certain N.O.Masses are worthy of protest, opposition, and conflict and all the passion that goes behind it. Jesus told us to expect certain conflicts. It might not be so much that we disagree but how we do so. (For instance, No person kneeling to receive Communion on the tongue at a Novus order Mass should be publicly chastised by the priest and denied Communion, yet it happens. ) . There are plenty of other examples, but there is a difference in even passionate opposition and bickering. Blessings. .

I must say I appreciate your honesty, and your openness. It is very rare to find somebody who keeps these things at their core like you do.
The biggest difference between the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo is not the reverence, the beauty, the politics, or even the language they are said in. These are all the results of what is at the core of the Latin Mass and the core of the Novus Ordo that makes them different.
The core of the Latin Mass is all the focus is put on God, the Eucharist. We pray towards the Eucharist who we believe is God in the tabernacle. We sing songs about God like Come Most Holy Trinity. All the beauty and the reverence is put in to increase the focus on God. The rubrics of the Mass ( directions) are strictly followed with no room for change, which requires people to humble themselves before God.
The core of the Novus Ordo is most, and sometimes all, the focus is put on the people. The priest faces the people, the homily is directed towards the people with things like social justice, the people sing about themselves with songs like "we are the light of the world" and the people are encouraged to change the Mass around to whatever they are most comfortable with, so it further puts the focus on themselves and by doing only what they are comfortable with, they do not need the humble themselves before God.
The Latin Mass focuses on God, the Novus Ordo focuses on the people.
The results of this is the Novus Ordo parishes are closing down at the rate of 15 to 50% a year depending upon which diocese we look at. People lose their faith in God if they are always encouraged to think about and focus on themselves.
At the Latin Mass parishes, they are growing at the rate of 50 to 100% every year, this is because the faith grows when people are encouraged to focus on God.
There certainly is currently a debate/fight between those who support the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo, I'm not concerned with the fight or debate taking place because it is kind of irrelevant when in a few more years all the Novus Ordo parishes will be extinct, so to me personally, the debate is silly, like debating the best way of arranging the chairs on a sinking ship.
I'm glad you long for Christian Unity, I too long for this. I could be wrong, but I don't think it will ever happen without Divine intervention. The reason is that though we have some things in common like we all love Jesus, what we have in common pretty much ends there because no one can agree on how to interpret the gospel. Everyone has their own way, and since they disagree, they split up.
Everyone agrees there is only one correct Eternal Word of God in the Bible, but no one agrees on what the context of the Bible is saying.
Catholics believe that only the Church can correctly interpret the Bible, Martin Luther disagreed and after fifteen hundred years of Christian Unity, he decided that he could decide what the Bible meant by himself and broke away from the Catholic Church, and of course Christians who disagreed with Martin Luther broke away from him. And now there are over 50,000 different denominations of protestantism.
So there cannot be unity, until all Christians decided they cannot interpret the Bible for themselves, and come back to the Church. Until then, every time somebody disagrees with somebody else, they will simply break away and come up with their own interpretation for the Bible.
Lastly, don't be too concerned about patriotic songs sung in a Church. Patriotic songs are pleasing to God because patriotism is love of neighbor. ( I would say the patriotic song is good as long as it is singing about praising God, and not praising ourselves)
Politics is important to God because politics determines what the laws of man will be, and God wants the laws of man to reflect His own laws, for our own good.

I'm a baby catholic, having converted less than 3 months ago, but just wanted to say, if you are going deeper into studying Catholicism it is good that you know that we can be divisive as well and that we have our family fights. But don't let the weird dividing lines destract you from the beauty of Catholicism. There aren't "traditionalist" and "liberal" catholics, thought some may dissagree, but we are all catholics, which means universal - we are one huge family!
I personally am ony dreaming to attend a High Latin Mass, and there is no doubt in my mind of its deep beauty and tradition. Just don't get too mixed up in the Novus Ordo vs Latin Mass fight. It still kinda freaks me out and I never liked when converting, because it is sadly often discussed without charity. Like you said, very off-putting, it was for me as well, so I try to either not watch that content or at east both "sides", because I tend to slip to the very conservative and traditional side by temperment.
But do research into the Catholic Church, we have a huge intelectual, artistic, literary treasury of beautiful traditions, writings, doctrines, dogmas, saints and so much more! God bless you in your journey! I will be praying for you and your channel!

I know a lot of Catholics that only go to the Tridentine Masses and criticizes a lot the Novus Ordo Masses and the II Vatican Council. I'd say that both Masses are good and have their own target audience. And I'd agree that the Novus Ordo Mass is theologically less strong, and that many the reforms done by the CVII have backfired since church attendance only dropped since then and the ones that stay have a weaker theological background. I myself was raised in the Novus Ordo Mass and ended up leaving the Catholic Church (first to no religion at all, then to Islam, then to Pentecostalism then to Protestantism). But I recently came back to the Church thanks in great part to the Tridentine Mass. But where I live it's not available, so I go to a Novus Ordo Mass (with Charismatic Renovation tendencies, which is not my thing, but it's ok). So I go to both Masses with no problems. And I also have things to say about CVII and Pope Francis but it was still a valid Council and he is still the Pope, so they should be treat as such. But also try going to a Coptic Orthodox Church, I find it very interesting. Ten Minute Bible Hour just made 4 videos about them.

We are called to be united in one body in Christ, the Novus Ordo mass does not created unity, as priests are free to change up many parts of the mass, any type of music is allowed, desecration occurs. Missals change every few years, there's projector screens now above altars.
The tridentine mass goes back to the earliest times of the church, it unites us to the past, and made saints. Saints died as marytrs to avoid going to a protestant mass in the vernacular.
I'm going to agree with the sentiment of going to Divine Liturgies from the eastern churches, but why go Coptic Orthodox when one can go Coptic Catholic, Syro-Malabar Catholic, Greek Catholic, etc.... I had a good laugh when The Minute Bible Hour went to the Greek Orthodox cathedral in Denver, and the priest, when explaining theological matters, always went to the default, “but we're not Catholic” so as to distinguish itself in separation.

Good evening, some of the differences from latin tridentine mass to novus ordo are the following: the latin tridentine mass, the priest and the people are facing together to the Lord which is the Eucharist in the tabernacle who is the center of the mass while the novus ordo, the priest is facing to the people, while facing back to tabernacle, where the Eucharist is there. Onother differences, the Latin Tridentine mass offers the sacrifice of the Lord in the Calvary as the reinactment of the sacrifices of the Lord in the Calvary, while the Novus Ordo offers the fruits of the land.

Haha liked your video a lot, but had to laugh when you said you couldn’t imagine the Latin Mass not in a beautiful church. I wish everyone was a lucky to have a Latin Mass at place like St. John Cantius, but for decades the TLM survived in basements and rented out hotel conference rooms.
Even today, in many if not most Dioceses, Latin Mass parishes are treated like the black sheep of the Catholic community. They are given parishes in the worst part of town, often in closed churches or converted Protestant churches. One day, I am sure that the TLM will return to the glorious churches, but even in the most austere setting, the Latin Mass is a beautiful, holy sacrifice.
It in many ways is humbling to witness the beautiful rites in sparse conditions. It is a reminder that the Mass has always and will always survive.
You know, I guess I really hadn't thought of that. Obviously my incredibly limited experience is playing into my bias here. It would be interesting to experience it in some place so radically different.

The Lutheran Church and all Protestant churches dont have, can't have, or experience The Real Presence of the Eucharist at their church/service because they don't have Apostolic Succession which was given by Christ to his Apostles the first priests that has been handed down with unbroken continuity to this day.

The parish I attend does of and ef masses, and I think that is the way it should be. I dislike sorting Catholics into factions - I'm a Catholic, I can attend the OF, the EF or a byzantine divine liturgy if I wish.
(yes, mea culpa, hypocrisy , I did factionalise and say 'rad trads'. But by that I mean obnoxious and uncharitable people on the Internet, not the vast majority of people who appreciate a traditional liturgy.)

Good video. A couple of things you definitely don’t want to do is read Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper, The Didache, Church Fathers, and John 6:25-67. If you want to stay Protestant, don’t do these things.

Austin: Thanks for the very interesting video. I’m glad you had a great experience at both liturgies and am also delighted that people were so hospitable to you. Having been born just prior to Vatican II, I had only fleeting memories of the Latin Mass. Some close family members have never accepted the changes in the Liturgy and so I’ve gone to the Latin Mass with them on several occasions. My experience was that, while it was beautiful, it was not my preference, at all. But for those who prefer it, I am glad that both are available. What me sad are the Liturgy wars that continue unabated in my church. Division and separation are never from God. Greatly looking forward to your attendance at an Orthodox Divine Liturgy! Where I am in California, Catholics and Orthodox have great relationships and pastors from both churches meet for dinner regularly. It’s quite lovely to see. Prayers for you as your continue your seminary formation!!

I literally only became a Catholic, well yeah by the grace of God, but also because of the openness of Vatican II, i saw the love of God in so many people as a protestant that i just refused associations that claimed only they would “get saved”, well, cults. This view in the Church changed by Vatican II and is the right approach to Church, thanks to the Holy Spirit for moving the magister’s heart on this. I can testify the sacraments are 100% true and the graces received by Mary and the rosary are as well, i wish everyone was a Catholic but i know this probably cannot be anymore, we should just join Christ in his priestly prayer that we all might be one.

I think it's quite interesting to note that the fight between Extraordinary and Ordinary forms of the mass is only relevant in the US. Here in Europe it's only anecdotal and really tied to fundamentalist groups.
In fact, outside the US I have absolutely never seen a Catholic woman wearing a veil to mass, that's still quite an impact to me.
Here in Spain I've never listened to anybody questioning Vatican II, the only people I know who do that are Americans. As universal as the Catholic church is, there are always some idiosincrasias on each country, and the US Catholic Church is one of the most "unique".

So, ignore these people. The value of mass is still there for both forms, and for the novus irdo value relies on the humble way to evangelize everyone. Imagine a humble town in a poor country with a humble church with roof made by palm trees and a priest coming to bring mass for people who barely has something to eat, hearing about God in their own languages soothing their spirit. I know how good is the Latin mass as well (I myself knows Latin and grown with the old way) but the ones fighting over it are forgetting the Church charity.
@@GospelSimplicity this particular debate really is American centred. I'm in the UK and maybe we just have a more High Church liturgical culture because I've simply never seen the sorts of things that Americans complain about the ordinary form. (ie, I've never seen aa 'guitar mass').

Hello Carlos. I think what you're commenting on is the differences in attitudes that can be observed in individualistic cultures. Some people have got to fight about everything as if their very identity depends on it. I enjoy meeting Jesus Christ in both and any Mass available. I appreciate a Latin Mass if I happen to be abroad and I don't speak the vernacular there. That's where the Latin Mass can come in handy. As far as preferences, I am thankful for the vernacular. I don't want to struggle to understand every nuance of the Mass, I just want to dive into the ocean of God's love.
These divisions is the US are founded by the SSPX schismatics and their extreme views of Vatican II. This is how it spread and why it is mostly here. They were declared schism because they tried to ordain bishops independent of Rome.
I appreciate this video, thank you! After Vatican II they took out a lot of statues and altars and went to boring paint jobs in churches, for whatever reason. In my humble opinion I think we should build Catholic Churches like they used to, in the form of a cross and with lots of symbolism and artistic beauty, now most new churches are void of that, and look like stadiums sometimes. But the whole war on Novus Ordo vs. Latin Mass is very tiresome to the Catholics that accept the authority of the church and recognize both rites as valid and means for peoples spiritual life. I myself love both rites, however it must be noted with the Novus Ordo cake much liturgical abuses, such as “clown masses” (yes it’s a real thing, it’s doesn’t happen anymore though) and priest riding up to the altar in motorcycles or whatever, yes much of it happened and still does to a certain extent. I live in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, and they just had a problem with a parish giving communion out in little baggies but that is, in a politically incorrect word, heresy. Anyways I’m off topic, the church in a sense, is really hurting right now, there is much division, and corruption in the Vatican, and people are leaving because of the sexual abuse crisis too. So this type of dialogue between Protestants helps, it helps to know we have brothers and sisters on the other side support us in our tough times, we are a suffering church, and if Protestants and Catholics can get together and be united (without trying to change each other’s churches) that I think will help out all of us.
