As a Protestant, I love Michael Knowles, and deeply enjoyed experiencing the Latin Mass (I didn’t take the Eucharist for obvious reasons). Most of my friends are Catholic, so I’m trying to do my due diligence and immerse myself in Catholic theology. God bless you all.
Those little kids knew more about the Latin Mass to start with than the vast majority of Novus Ordo adults do (even those who are old enough to remember Vatican II.
Yep - speaking for myself, cradle Catholic, Catholic school, lovely, Catholic parents….. my understanding of the mass has only really just begun! God bless you ❤️🙏
As a young Vietnamese man of twenty, having been raised and educated within the theological framework established by the Second Vatican Council, I have subsequently cultivated a profound reverence for the Tridentine Mass. Remember, the Holy Spirit often guides us in subtle ways.
I have been following Michael's, and Alex O'Connor's content off and on for years, but never would I have ever expected to see them sitting across from each other, having a friendly conversation about the Latin Mass. What a time to be alive
I am a Protestant who loves Catholic mass (even the Novus Ordo) because of the reverence. I have so much respect for the Church and that it still has such a strong idea of worship, because that's been lost in so many evangelical churches.
This was Awsome. I love how welcoming and enthusiastic Michael is regardless of your level and understanding. You can tell he genuinely loves God and being Catholic.
Fr. Brian Park is my Pastor, and he and his Associate Priests are fantastic, and all exhibit beautiful respect for the Eucharist. I love our parish in St. Michael Minnesota. We need to look at this as a "Both And"! Both are beautiful ways of honoring our Lord Jesus Christ, "Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity". Great discussion. God bless, Tom 🙏
You have some amazing priests in your state. I’ve been listening to Father Mike Schmitz’s podcasts on the Bible and the Catechism and it’s been wonderful.
We go to Epiphany in Coon Rapids, but St. Michael's is lovely too. Our middle was baptized there. It seems like Fr. Brian is more traditional than the previous pastors?
Excellent! Thanks again “Mass of the Ages “for bringing an understanding to the timeless and most valuable gift of the Latin Mass! Mr. Knowles you knocked it out the park! You were “Top Notch “ as usual!
Fr. Brian Park! I remember when you were called “BP” from my NET year in 2004/2005. Wow. I’m so happy you’ve a love for the TLM. I’m praying for your priesthood. Audrey
Dr. Mike Foley was absolutely brilliant. He brought so much insight and ideas I have never thought about. That conversation actually made me realize how little I know about my own faith. Thank you for the video!
Yes, Mike Foley is the real deal. I know him personally from my time as a student at Baylor. He introduced me to the TLM, and I've been grateful to him ever since!
St. Michael's in St. Michael, Minnesota is on the list of parishes at the website Reverent Catholic Mass so he probably says the Novus Ordo very reverently as it should be done.
Michael, this was so simple, yet so profound! I was impressed with the children's responses. However, like you, I never really contemplated the difference between being holy and that which is sacred. Thank you. I learned something very important here today.
They way Michael handles the little kids of varying education levels was nice to see. The kids were paying attention and he was explaining it reasonably well so they could understand it. Maybe he should be a teacher.
I believe desacralization diminishes an inclination toward holiness. Sacredness inspires holiness. Also, true Catholic music is Sacred. It is set aside. Excellent conversation! But please, let's restore the sacred.
In another comment, I had just mentioned that my neighborhood parish just recently brought in a guitar and drum set for mass. "The 1970s and 80s just called. And they want their terrible post-vatican II ideas back"
I still do not understand why Protestant theologians were given such power at a Pastoral Council that was, essentially, supposed to enhance the relationship between Pastors and their Parishes!!! How did Protestantism ever become the official determinant of that? Like a troubled couple seeking marriage counseling from an atheist: not a wise plan.
@@carolnearson7932 unfortunately, due to some family logistical complications, we are not able to see if their Sunday morning masses are the same at that parish. I know what you mean though. Their 'charismatic' Catholics. They literally seeing every single prayer. Everyone. Confiror. The Creed (Nicean and Apostle). Kirie eleison. Even the Our Father. However, they are pretty passionate, and boy do they put their heart out when they 'sing prayer'. I have attended only a few Latin Masses 50 years ago when I was in grade school. Your sharing great insights that were easy for me to consume and digest. Thank you
My parish has been so blessed to have priests that have brought back more and more reverence to our parish Mass. We use altar rails, aim to sing reverent music, and often the mass is celebrated Ad Orientum. Still “Novus Ordo”, but with much more devotion and reverence. It is possible
That point Michael made to the skeptic was really good: "If what is going on at the altar is something that I can cognize and comprehend, then it not be what it claims to be." I've never thought about it that way, but I'm coming around to that way of thinking more and more.
I went to a TLM from birth to about the 9th grade. I'm 72 now and I am still amazed at the number of Latin words I picked up along the way. It did wonders for my vocabulary. My diocese does not have a Latin Mass but I do go to a Mass said ad orientem (to the east). See what I mean about Latin and vocabulary? I still love the TLM and hope one day I will get to go to another one.

So cool to see our priest on the Michael Knowles channel! I pray that someday our beautiful parish of St. Michael will celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass.
Excellent! My family has been attending the TLM for a couple of years now. While my wife and I might prefer a more reverent Novus Ordo Mass, it is our children, particularly our youngest children, who are drawn to the TLM. I’m unable to explain it, but there it is-more exciting to the youth than folk hymns with guitars and tambourines. I hope this energy for the faith stays strong in them! As an aside, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Foley’s wife and daughter at at a Right To Life march a few years back, and that is how I discovered his “cocktail” book!
My kids love Latin Mass My son is 100% all in The young men and women in SSPX are militant and are realizing the modern world provides misery and debt. Love TLM
thank you thank you. We have TLM every Sunday in our parish. It is the MOST attended Mass of the entire weekend. Sadly, the Bishop has restricted TLM for sacraments, HolyDays and even funerals. Only our parish can have weekly TLM, no other Parish in our Diocese so familys drive for up to two hours to come here. I pray the restrictions get removed and then the Churches will grow all over the place. Please Holy Spirit open the eyes of this Pope.
I'm a cradle Catholic, born in the early '70s when the church was still trying to find its footing and often overcorrecting post-V2. Catechesis was terrible; Mary statues were being shoved into closets; rosaries were being discouraged. Catholicism was being aggressively de-Catholicized. I didn't know that at the time. I just thought I was born into a faith tradition with no fundamental difference from liturgical Protestantism. Nobody ever told me why I should be a Catholic as opposed to, say, an Episcopalian or a high-church Lutheran. I never even attended a Latin Mass until I was in my thirties. When I did, I felt like we'd all been robbed of something sacred and beautiful. These days I fall more on Alex O'Connor's side than on Michael Knowles' when it comes to religious belief, but I still find myself drawn to the sacredness, rituals, and tradition of the TLM. It humbles you. It directs you upward and out of yourself. The modern Mass doesn't. It's a banal two-way conversation that leaves you stuck there, in the mundane everyday world, and takes you no further. If Catholicism wants to shake up the world, I think the only way it can do that is through the TLM. Otherwise it's just another indistinguishable product on the shelf.
WhenI moved to a new town and was looking for a new parish as a relatively new Catholic, I signed up for a class being taught by lay people. During the first day I heard some heresies. I asked the leader about the real resurrection, and she said to me that no one believed in that anymore. I met with the pastor and left that parish.

The reason I unsubscribed was because his viewpoint on Pope Francis seems to give him too much of the benefit of the doubt in this time where the Catholic Church is being attacked by modernism from foreign and internal threats. Pope Francis just doesn't go against the modernist like the Church needs. Whereas St. Pius X used his supreme papal authority to actual deal with the modernism in his time. The Roman Pontiff shouldn't have climate change and this Synod at the top of his mind. It should be actually punishing pedos in the Church, which he barely gave a slap on the hand to Fr. Rupnik who molested nuns and Cardinal Fernandez who has mishandled abuse cases, excommunicating politicians who support abortion (which he hasn't with Pres. Biden and others), and being bold with pronouncements against LGBTQ instead of dancing around the issue with same sex couple blessing which is scandalous.

Prior to my leaving the church was due to it not feeling like it was being taken seriously. I found my Catholic home in the TLM, through the extremely regimented and reverent nature of this Mass. I found I was severely let down by my CCD “education” and lacked a lacked a full depth of understanding for the beautiful traditions in Catholicism. I never realized that Catholics too, have beautiful traditions like Jews and Muslims. It wasn’t until I returned to Catholicism attending the TLM that I truly felt there is so much more to Catholicism than just kneeling, sitting and standing.
I don't identify with any particular religion, but this video made me really want to go to a Traditional Latin Mass, especially since I value tradition extremely highly. Unfortunately, there is not a single Traditional Latin Mass in my city. I'm actually a bit pissed off to be honest. I should be able to take part in the same mass as did my ancestors. But apparently I can't. I won't be attending the new mass, nor any other church denomination (although I may look into Eastern Orthodoxy) until I have attended a Traditional Latin Mass. I do plan to move to a different city or perhaps country in a few years, so that may be my chance. I certainly hope so.

During Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, He made 7 (seven) touching prayers (statements) starting with "Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing", and ending with "Father into Thy hands I commit my spirit". For those who find it difficult to follow the Latin, and want to "participate actually" (participatio actuosa), I would recommend meditating on these 7 statements, after Sanctus onwards when the reverential silence is the deepest.... and by the time you say "Domine non dignus" you will have surrendered to Jesus your soul ready to receive Him - Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity". You will have stood by the cross as Mary did accepting you as her "son' at His command. That is the beauty of theLatin mass. This is both active and actual participation at the Holy Mass. This is possible only during the reverent and dignified silence in the Latin Mass. During the actual crucifixion only His enemies patted each others' back for the black deed they did 1990 years ago.

We've attended a TLM for years. We asked one of our priests to visit my wife's parents, who at the time were going to Novus Ordo... He made the best comment about how most people treat the Eucharist, outside of the TLM... Me too and I wonder why Micheal did not answer Alex’s question about ‘why latin’? Or maybe I didn’t get it, but is there a reason?
This actually goes to show that the children can have a better understanding of things than learned people. It doesn’t have to be super complicated, people. It’s often extremely simple.
However, we're all still cowards, cause we don't act on it.
😂 what? No. They are just regurgitating what was taught to them. We're seeing this exact same thing on the left with all that gender crap. Children are just little mimics around that age.
So naive. No. Clearly, this just shows they are just repeating what they heard from their parents. It's called brainwashing

You would hope so if they have experience of it. I wouldn't expect people to know Latin Mass if it is not something their parish or diocese does.

When I heard that four year old say a four syllable word ("adoration"), I knew these kids have good parents who have been teaching them plenty.
I have been following Michael's, and Alex O'Connor's content off and on for years, but never would I have ever expected to see them sitting across from each other, having a friendly conversation about the Latin Mass.

This is brilliant (just seen the first 5 mins so far). God bless all who took part.
I am a Protestant who loves Catholic mass (even the Novus Ordo) because of the reverence. I have so much respect for the Church and that it still has such a strong idea of worship, because that's been lost in so many evangelical churches.
Please consider converting. Our Lord wants you in the church that He founded. ✝️
This was Awsome. I love how welcoming and enthusiastic Michael is regardless of your level and understanding.
You can tell he genuinely loves God and being Catholic.
I’ve never really enjoyed his podcast on politics, but his love of the faith and being Catholic is top tier for sure.
I cannot EXPRESS how much I appreciate your doing this episode! Thank you, Mr Knowles!
You are very welcome
I began o learn Latin when I was in roman catholic school.

Dr. Mike Foley was absolutely brilliant. He brought so much insight and ideas I have never thought about. That conversation actually made me realize how little I know about my own faith. Thank you for the video!
I loved how intelligent he was. It radiates.
Yes, Mike Foley is the real deal. I know him personally from my time as a student at Baylor. He introduced me to the TLM, and I've been grateful to him ever since!
I really enjoyed Mike Foley's contribution. I wasn't expecting to find so many rich new concepts and distinctions.
Fr Brian was amazing! I’m glad he was open and in agreement with the idea that the TLM should be celebrated.
The priest seemed rather dismissive of the TLM.
It should be celebrated, but Novus Ordo should not be so dismissed and villainized as I hear from many TLM elitists.
St. Michael's in St. Michael, Minnesota is on the list of parishes at the website Reverent Catholic Mass so he probably says the Novus Ordo very reverently as it should be done.
Michael talking to the kids is everything!!! And those children are so smart and precious 💕 God bless them 🥰
Michael, this was so simple, yet so profound! I was impressed with the children's responses. However, like you, I never really contemplated the difference between being holy and that which is sacred. Thank you. I learned something very important here today.
This was beautiful, thank you! Much respect to everyone that participated
And they want their terrible post-vatican II ideas back"
I still do not understand
why Protestant theologians were given such power at a Pastoral Council that was, essentially, supposed to enhance the relationship between Pastors and their Parishes!!!
How
did Protestantism ever become the official determinant of that?

@@tenaciousb4731Oh my, that’s horrible. Is that for every mass, or can you avoid it?
@@carolnearson7932 unfortunately, due to some family logistical complications, we are not able to see if their Sunday morning masses are the same at that parish. I know what you mean though. The last parish from our old town, had a much much different liturgy, depending on which priest was celebrating it, at which time
The only other option, is the student parish in my Town's University.
And they do use a normal piano at least

That point Michael made to the skeptic was really good: "If what is going on at the altar is something that I can cognize and comprehend, then it not be what it claims to be." I've never thought about it that way, but I'm coming around to that way of thinking more and more.
Thank you for doing this, Miachael. I have been a bit confused at times, eventhough I go to the Latin Mass. I understand more, now. Thank you.

Would that lifelong Catholics who don't give our faith as much thought as we should might embrace your zeal for the TRUE teachings of faith!
Whoa! That is scary!
Novus Orda is gone
What he said about Tradition vs old is something I’ve been saying for a while. It’s so annoying when people like Michael Lofton say something like “communion in the hand is more traditional” it may be older, but traditional means it’s been done for the longest time
Yes. That is why I unsubscribed from Lofton a while ago. His rhetoric felt too hostile to traditionalists like me.
@@_kidtripp7772I think you are in your feelings Lofton is anything but hostile to traditions he tries to convey a balanced argument about the subject but some of you act like toddlers when people don't say what you want to hear
Lofton is truly one of the most arrogant people I've ever seen. He's got a constant smug attitude that rubs me the wrong way. I've known a few people in my life like that... never nice to be around.
@@YiriUbic3793 I don't hate him entirely. Some of his older videos on Eastern Orthodoxy are quite good, especially when he had his take on Pints with Aquinas about the Orthodox. Pretty good episode.
@@bumponalog5001 Exactly. He treats us trads like raving fools who worship TLM and deny papal authority. No, we want a Mass that better glorifies God and have a pope that isn't anti-tradition and modernistic.

One of the most meaningful chats about the TLM I’ve heard. Ever. Learned something important too. Thank you!!
Oh I look forward to watching this, so glad you did this, so necessary.😇
Divine liturgy is beautiful. The TLM is wonderful as well. I've personally found my home in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Good luck to you.
You should keep it in mind when you travel!
You could look up pious the tenth masses too, while the priests are in skism the mass itself is not and it's a TLM.
They are not in schism, you just need to look into that a bit further.

That preschooler knows more than half the kids coming into my confirmation catechesis
