    Thank you so much. I replaced a movement and crystal my retirement watch for less than $10. Much cheaper than the $160 quoted by a jeweler. Made my own tool for pushing on hands by drilling small holes in the end of a piece of hardwood dowel.

    Great instructional video on watch movement replacement, with your video I believe I may be able to replace the movement in an Invicta I have that quit working and a new battery didn't help. Could you advise me as to where the best website would be to buy the basic tools you use and is there one particular website that you could mention that would sell a new quartz movement to a hobbyist? Thanks in advance for your assistance!

      Thank you for your help. On your video you show 2 hand presser tools on your bench, I've seen sets of 2, 3 and 6 double ended hand presser tools for sell, are there certain diameters that I will find on most men's watches and what do you consider the most common sizes I will come into contact with. Also do I pre-select each size for the hour, minute and second hands by testing the fit with each tool first?

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  6 лет назад +1

      Sorry for the delay. I missed this. Each hand has a smaller diameter hole with the hour hand being the largest. There is no way to h=get it exact, but it should be close. Most of the hand pushers come with a set of ens with different sizes. I use these. You can get them from several vedors, so shop around www.ebay.com/p/3pcs-Watch-Hand-Presser-Fitting-Tool-Watchmakers-Repairs-Hands-Fitter-Press-Set/1194258225?iid=292119064311&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D47301%26meid%3D89b167d8092e40e1af0afdad71213e54%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D391243351173&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

    Hello. I have a few questions on Seiko quartz movements. Would there be any performance difference between a Seiko PC21J, and a Seiko VJ32 quartz movement? What about longevity for either movement? I have seen where you can actually do a circuit swap between both movements, so that is what has me questioning if one is better than the other. Have you also experienced more problems with Swiss circuits failing, over these two Seiko movements? Thanks!

    Great video and walkthrough! Got all the tools you recommended. Before watching this I would have totally just bought the hands remover and press without thinking.
    Just swapped out a movement with only one hiccup - bent the seconds hand by accident when removing the stem after checking if the newly installed hands spun correctly. If I could go back I would have removed the stem before attaching the seconds hand (around the 30:00 mark). FYI to others attempting.

    Hi, I have this watch with a Miyota quartz movement 2115. it is from a microbrand which means that cosmetically outside looks very good and stylish, however, the movement looks very cheap. I would like to know if it is possible to replace the movement for an automatic whether is Miyota or other that fits the case. Great videos, by the way, thank you.

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  6 лет назад

      So sorry for the later response. It in not practice to replace a quartz with an automatic movement. Mostly because it probably wouldn't fit. In general automatic movements are much larger. the expense would also be prohibitive. There are so many good looking automatic watches at reasonable prices i would just look for one you like. the possibilities are really endless,

    Hi there I'm just replacing a ronda movement in a Swiss militaire watch and the back is a real tight bugger to put back on? Any tips? Other than a back press?
    I think I damaged the movement trying to put the back back on after replacing the battery and noticed that the little red coil type thing with the tiny wired wrapped around it has frayed, broke a few wires away, so I've bought a new movement for it 315 Ronda 1 jewel it should be here in a few days maybe, So im looking forward to wearing it. It's a nice everyday kind of watch.
    I wear 9ct gold watches have quite a few of them male and female. Old ww1 officers watch and things like that up to 1950s dress and spots watches.
    Great video pal subbed and liked 👍👍👍

      Some of these case back are very difficult to get back on. Here are my suggestions. Make sure the rubber seal is in excellent shape, if not replace it. If it is in good shape, rub a light application of silicone grease on the seal, just enough for a light coat. Get a back press. amzn.to/2kYUJKb $15.00 is less than a new movement. Plus, you will have for future battery replacements on this and any other watch. Best of luck.

      Watch Time LA yes I'll take a look at the back press but I have managed to find a watch repairs that's going to Do the job for me as it has a black dial so I don't want to spoil this watch any more than I already have, I have the new movement now so just a case of dropping it off at the shop to be done,
      Looking forward to wearing the watch as it'll be a little more durable than my 9ct watches,
      Thanks for the reply 👍👍

    I need to do this on my bulova automatic! I dont want to spend 100 bucks on servicing it, is just the same with an automatic? I havent got any watch repair knowledge do you think this is possible for me?

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  7 лет назад

      Kaden Christensen you can do it but you would have to find the exact movement. If you could find a working watch on eBay that had a working movement you could just swap the entire thing with the hand and dial. That would be simple. It still may be cheaper to just have the watch fixed. I would get an estimate to repair and get a cost on a movement. See which one is more practical. Don’t forget to include the cost of tools if you don’t yourself.

    • @astrokade_astronomy
      @astrokade_astronomy 7 лет назад +1

      Watch Time LA I hav3 most of the tools, I'll have to order hand puller and pusher though. Which isn't bad, I know it's a miyota 8n24 automatic movement, which is 44 dollars on eBay, brand new, and if like the experience, think it could be worthwhile? I figure it would be under 60 dollar, which for this 400 dollar watch is be happy to pay

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  7 лет назад

      Kaden Christensen for that price I would probably give it a try. Watch the video while you do it. Be very very careful. If you can fix a car, bike, etc, you can change a movement.

    One pole of my watch's dial has broken. So what should I do , so that my quartz movement fix properly to my dial ?

  • @richardsalinetrojr1957

    I personally have 2 quartz watches that both cost me a pretty penny that have the Ronda 715 movement and both of them stopped all together.replaced battery other day and both fail to work.one of the movements is the silver 1 jewel Swiss parts movement and the other is the 5 jewel Swiss made gold colored movement.esslingers do have both the silver Swiss parts and the gold Swiss made movements in stock for about $12 in difference.my question is would it be better to use the gold 5 jewel movement in both watches or should I save the $12 and buy the 1 jewel silver movement or should I just replace each watch with the movement that it actually came with?was told when changing these I should swap out the top plate that the quartz is attected to so that numbers match on watch.dont know if they actually have numbers that match the case but if thats the case im assuming I should use the exact movement that came in watch?

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  3 года назад

      The jewels in these movement don’t make them last any longer. It’s the electronics that fail. Use the exact movement or risk the fact that it may not fit correctly. There are subtle differences in these movements, like the second hand stem being .1 mm longer. Get the wrong one and it won’t fit. Good luck.

    • @richardsalinetrojr1957
      @richardsalinetrojr1957 3 года назад

      @@WatchTimePlus well I did see as I was looking for the movements that the Ronda 715 has like 6 different variations of thickness.1 is 4mm in total thickness and the biggest being like 6mm in total thickness so guess my first step is disassembling the watches and measuring the thickness of the movement so I know I'm getting the proper one for each of these watches.was gonna go out on a limb and just get the gold colored Swiss made movements but ill play it safe and just stick with what came in the watch.thanks for your response and thank you for the advice

    Your statement that the hour and minute hand should align at the hour mark, for each hour, is not true.
    The hour hand should align with the hour mark, but the minute hand should align with 12:00 at each start of the hour.

    • @MoltenJules
      @MoltenJules 4 года назад

      @@kazi789 I think you can do it how you want really. If it suits you you could get the day date to start to change at midnight because when you look in the morning it will be flipped over. I'm sure each watchmaker does it differently.

  • @jallen4458
    @jallen4458 4 года назад

    There's a lot of guesswork and imprecision with your method of determining when the day is changing -- is it when you just see the indicator begin to move? How much movement do you need to see? Plus, not all movements change days at the same rate. Why not eliminate the guesswork and simply wait for the new day indicator to fully seat, and then put the hands at 12 o'clock right when that occurs?

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  3 года назад

      I agree. There is a lot of guess work, but also a lot of trial and error. There are thousands of different movements and this process is the best general guess I have come up with. I welcome any better suggestions. I am always willing to learn.

    HELP!
    Is there any way to change the dial itself. I see it seems like the movement is attached to the dial...
    But I am hooked on the idea to replace my old booring dial with some wacky thin sliced mineral!
    I understand this will be hard, but is it possible without proffessional insane experience?

    • @WatchTimePlus
      @WatchTimePlus  5 лет назад

      It is not physically hard, it is just very difficult to find a dial to fit a movement.

    • @5naxalotl
      @5naxalotl 4 года назад

      i'm interested in the same thing. it seems to be within the abilities of an eclectic hobbyist. the main parameter is that the distance of the stem from the front of the watch must line up with the stem hole in the case. if you're just changing the dial, this just means the dial is the same thickness. the dial just sits on a shelf/ring, so if you can grind a circle within .5mm it will be close enough. case height from shelf to stem hole is dial height plus "stem height" of movement. you *need* an electronic caliper, but they are cheap on ebay. i use a micrometer (also cheap) as backup because it can't fail like a caliper can. grinding/sanding is incremental so you'd be surprised how precisely you can work with repeated measurements. dials have "dial feet" (plain prongs) on the back that stick into (often obscure) holes in the movement, often secured with (obscure) screws. feet are in annoyingly different positions on different movements. professionally feet are soldered on, but with ingenuity you should be able to epoxy something in the correct position. your biggest challenge will probably be painting the dial

    I bought a watch off of the net and found out it was a replica. They took a Bulova watch and made it into a Movado. It looks like a Movado. I was told that it needs to have a new movement installed. The watch was $60 dollars and somehow I screwed up and they ended up sending me the watch as well as a refund for the watch so I am not out of any money. I really like the look of this watch and think it will make a great dress watch in my collection. My question to you is that if I have a cheaper but still really good movement that would fit inside the watch is it possible to do so? The watch place I took it too said it would cost me $100 to put in a new movement, is that about right or is he just over charging because he really doesn't want to work on my watch. . .He said he knew it was an imitation and I said I just like the way it looks and the bracelet and case was stainless steel so I didn't really care. This is a photo of the watch I own and wanted to show you why I want to fix it

      If the movement is bad, I think you have no choice. You can probably get a movement on line for 25.00 if you want to do it yourself. But you will need a very steady hand and and some tools. 100.00 for a new moment at a professional watchmaker is reasonable. I could probably do it for you for less, but i would have to see a closeup of the movement before I could commit. If you can get the back off and send me a clear image of the numbers on the movement we can take it from there. Go to watchtimela.com and fill out the form at the bottom so i can safely get your email address and sand you mine.
