$2,700 Rolex from eBay - Restoration 1960s Broken Vintage Air King Date - Rolex 1535 Caliber
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 фев 2025
- This time I´m restoring a Rolex Air King Date from the 1960s. I´ve bought this watch from eBay for $2,700. It´s powered by the Rolex 1535 Caliber.
The watch is in a really bad condition. The case is severely damaged, the glass is scratched, the crown-stem and the balance-staff are broken, the index of the dial fell off and the movement doesn´t work at all.
After polishing the case, the bracelet and the glass I need to re-brush the bracelet and the clasp. The movement gets a complete service and I´m replacing the broken parts.
After everything is cleaned, polished and re-brushed, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a fantastic beat (+0 seconds per day) again.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

The whole time watching this video I didn't think of anything but. No stresses of the day, no bills, no work, just this. Thanks
This is what I love about working on a watch.
I totally agree 😂
same haha
Same, except for that hairspring part. Those look like they would break if you looked at it funny.
There is a something in this "watch-repair" videos... Something...calming... 😊
After your restoration, the ROLEX seems to have just left the factory... Impeccable polishing of all the elements....!!!!
@sanimohammed81 Thank you for taking my comments into account...!!!!
See, all you need is a lifetime of watch repair knowledge, $150k in specialty tools, an insane amount of patience and precision and you too can fix a $2,700 Rolex!
Exactly. Anyone ever look up Bergeon tools? It’s insane. And of course hours and hours of free time….but it’s fun to watch
Even if I had the knowledge, precision, money and tools to repair luxury watches I would still be screwed with the patience.
You don’t need $150k in specialized tools but ok lol.
@@COORSMAN0790 without the patience you cant accumulate the knowledge
Imagine being this ignorant.
When people only see 220$ of repair costs. All i saw was Multiple hours and knowledge that no money can buy. Great video.
That was just the parts cost too. Factoring in labor, if this were a customer repair, it would be several hundred more, if not thousand. And worth it too.
$220 repair with $22000 tools
Truly amazing work. And fabulous camera work and editing. Wow. Just wow. 🤯
This was RIDICULOUS! I have watched you restore so many different things incredibly well - but THIS… oh my goodness… done perfectly, filmed perfectly… SUBLIME sir! Thank you for always providing AMAZING viewing content!
One word comes to me watching your videos: 'HOW?' It's really impressive to watch a human being do such a precise work even seeing step by step the question remains. Truly impressive what a great job you do!
enough hours, you can become a master at anything.
@@rigoeats3654 10,000 hrs...at least they say.

@@rigoeats3654 Not enough, you should have a steady hand. And a lot of patience.
Shits fake bruh
It is so calming to watch a craftsman at work doing the job correctly with the right tools. Beautiful work and a beautiful watch at the end of it.
I really enjoyed the restoration of the balance wheel, super delicate and really interesting to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it 😉
@@RedDeadRestoration how come this was commented 5 days ago when the video was published 1 hr ago?

@@RedDeadRestoration first time on any of the watch channels that I follow that I've seen someone take the time to adjust the balance wheel 🤯 very amazing to see
So good to see the watch movement come to life at 17:27! Pure magic.
I finish work at 4pm. When I want to relax I watch one of your videos. Hypnotic and I am in awe of how you can repair these battered diamonds in the rough.
These videos are always like a little vacation for me and like to watch it for distraction or if i need a break. The best thing is no stupid talk, just the watch, the beauty of the mechanics, tools i have never seen before, the great work and an impressive result. Thanks for this
This comment…I couldn’t have possibly worded it any better!
Well said. Totally agree.
I have no idea why this popped up on suggestions?
I watched it anyway.
Unbelievable ! I love the plot twist with the socks 😂 …
Beautiful art and craftsmanship

While watchmaking and working upon engines are two different pursuits, I have an idea of just how much you must enjoy doing this work, bringing an old veteran back from the brink. It's a wonderful thing to have not only the skills, but the knowledge and patience to do this work. Thanks so much for this video... the quality is excellent, beyond reproach. All the best for 2023!
After a while I started to notice the quality of each individual part of this watch, and how beautiful it is no matter where you look. I have always been a shaker, so watch repair was never a possibility, but I sure enjoy watching you different fellas recreate the former beauty of these old ones. Excellent camera work. My dad was an aerospace machinist, so I learned many years ago to appreciate all of the wonderful tools that workers like you use.
The time and effort cost more than the watch does...
The craftmanship of this guy is priceless.
I just discovered this master and as a motorcycle mechanic (at home) I found the workmanship and the tools absolutely fascinating. I’d be dropping and losing those little tiny parts like crazy. I love watching a master like you and will continue watch in amazement.

A wreck become a masterpiece, you are a skill magician, best video I ever seen up to know.
Thanks a lot!
Every video of yours... I keep saying "Wow!" and louder and louder!! Truly your obsession is beyond words. Even the word perfection is not to capture your dedication!!!
One cost is impossible to asses is price of your skill in repairing, using those tools so skillfully. I believe knowing a watch mechanism and knowing how to repairing them is one skill and another skill is expertly using so many tools, otherwise it may break more parts of the watch.
I find used Rolex watches more charming. They tell an unknown story from somone's life!

Being born myself in 1962, I wish I could get a makeover like that Rolex!🤣👏🏼😍

This is easily one of my favourites of your restorations. You demonstrated such a range of precision work on a wonderful tool watch. It feels like it should be worn instead of protected in lucite like today's high end watches. The "return to factory" sort of look isn't for all fans of vintage watches, but I think this was done very carefully and isn't overdone at all. Thanks for your videos.
Nice work! I’m just glad we have people like this with the skill, knowledge and patience.
I'm a complete layman, but I can tell you one thing for sure--this was a serious watchmaker flex. Might be the best wathmaking video I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. Wow.
Balancing the balance wheel was an art. Thanks for this great masterpiece!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was actually science ;)
That moment you put the balance wheel back in and the clock springs to life - magical!
😊👍
It always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of amzwatch's watch 99% of people will never see.
Nice lessons , good examples of live , I leave same things in youth , I am 44 and always learning , cheers .
This version of the Air King is much better than the current ones in my opinion. Great job.
The new Air-King is ugly.
Indeed. Feels like a Frankenstein.
But it's so redundant. Especially the older AK like these, other than maybe saving a bit on a Precision movement. Just get an OP, or in this case an OP Date. The modern AK are at least distinguishable with their dials.
Talent and elegance mean nothing without rigor and precision and undoubtedly, you have both! Beautiful work!
I dont even wear watches/time pieces, i do however appreciate the engineering and precision involved with both making and restoring.
All in all a fantastic way to showcase such talent... Keep it up RDR!!!!
Well said!
Picked up a AMZWATCH's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!

That was so enjoyable to watch. Absolutely stunning work and it must be so satisfying to be able to do this. To a layman like me, there seems to be a different tool for every task in watch repair - it must cost a fortune to fully equip a workshop. Thanks for uploading the video.
I actually think the editing and sound must be just as difficult as the restoration if not more , then again I could not do either , sheer enjoyment, thanks much from England 🏴
One of the most therapeutic videos I've watched!
Flawless, again! It’s a pleasure to watch your videos because it’s guaranteed that the outcome will be perfect. The highest quality of watchmaking that I have ever seen.
Wow, thank you!
@@RedDeadRestoration No, thank YOU!👏
Wow I just stumbled upon this channel and I'm falling in love with it. It's so fascinating and relaxing to see the meticulous work that goes into a high-end watch restoration! At the end of the video he said he used two hundred and twenty dollars worth of parts but his labor fee was probably way more than that because it's a lot of meticulous precision labor.
Wow that was incredible!! All those tiny tiny parts and you took that Rolex apart and put it back together like it was child play. I've always said you can tell how good a person is at his job by how easy they make it look. You must be great at yours. Great job and the watch is beautiful.
There are purists who would say you dont polish a vintage rolex etc etc, in this case the watch was completely done so 100% give it an overhaul, exceptional work
Tolles Video , es entspannt mich und zusätzlich wurde eine alte Uhr wieder Leben eingehaucht…
Amazing restoration! And the new look of Elma is amazing! Loved her restoration video as well!
The movement inside still looks beautiful even though the outside was already a mess
nice work on this restoration, GJ!
Thank you very much!
Incredible. Really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship.
That accuracy test is insane for having to get it in one shot! I love every detail of this craft!
It is a crying shame that you don't do customer work, because you sir appear to do some damn fine work. I myself have a 60's vintage Explorer Date that my Dad purchased in the 60's as a young man . But it suffered water damage in the 80's and got put away in the jewelry box ever since. He recently passed away and I've got the watch now and would love to get it working again.
Thanks for bringing sanity to this world! Superb work, especially the balance wheel restoration, mark of a rare talent professional. Thank you again.
Thank you very much!
I subscribed to your channel a long time ago. I have to say that you brought this beautiful Rolex back from the dead. Absolutely stunning work, second to none. It was really fascinating to see the specialist tools that you used in this one. Amazing work Sir. Superb!
My first visit here, excellent craftsmanship, really enjoyable to see you give this watch so in need of service/repair some love. This Air King is my favorite of the Rolex lineup, not at all showy, just an elegant timepiece. I'm subscribed now, I'll be back for some more fun.
Thanks, Patrick
Thanks 😊
I don’t own a Rolex but I do own an Omega , people ask ‘why pay so much for a watch’ if they was to see a video like this it would go towards explaining why. That is a beautiful watch brought back to life by a craftsman.
I always love it when the balance wheel goes back in. That’s when you know that the watch repair is almost complete.
Expert watch restoration skills on display as art and entertainment. The Air King is my personal favorite Rolex, and seeing one restored like this was a little slice of heaven. Thank you for this channel!
Another beautiful restoration as always my friend! Have a happy new years!
Thanks, you too!
I forgot to mention that I really liked the cost breakdown at the end, it really puts into prospective the amazing job you do. With both sourcing the parts and the fact you can repair these gems with very reasonable priced parts.
Super job on the balance wheel! Very impressive!
just found out about Rolex glass from acrylic...
Incredible restoration and what a beautiful watch. I really enjoy your watching your videos.

I was wondering how many hours of work this represented. It seems like quite a few.
This would have taken me at least 2 days and you do it in 20min. Incredible.
Your work is exceptional
Cost of skill and knowledge= priceless. Just subscribed and liked. Absolutely fantastic. Open up a Rolex is already frightening. Fixing and restore all components is truly skill of art. Keep up with the good work.

This was just wonderful to watch (no pun intended lol!)....I've seen a few different watch restoration videos from other content creators but I think this might be the first time I've seen a balance wheel disassembled ...and the quiet meticulousness as you work through the entire restoration process is amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bought the watch for $2.700 will sell it for a good price one of the best watch restorer that I’ve seen on eBay he goes all out watches look brand new
Unreal that workmanship is amazing the attention to detail how clean you are and how clean the tools are that’s a person who’s mastered there craft 👏🏻.
Wow, thank you!
I guess that's a time piece only suitable for a person who has skills to repair the watch including new parts etc. For me as just a user of an automatic wristwatch it would be a money grab.. A professional restoration at a certified Rolex dealership costs exactly 2.700 $ btw. I saw the invoice of a similar Rolex from 1968 on German "Ebay Kleinanzeigen" recently.
RUclips gives me way too much confidence that I can do anything
Awesome Restauration, it was pretty scary at first seeing the offset dial. Great work and thank you for sharing the process :)
Thanks for watching!
Wow very beautiful and amazing work..
I almost bought an Air King last week on eBay. It was a tough decision, but I went with a 1984 Tudor. I'll find an Air King one of these days. Hopefully, it's one that you restored. Beautiful.
That was so satisfying to watch. Great job😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your precision and patience it would be good to know how long the restoration took and value of the watch after restoration

Thanks for doing this, that watch has a history and it deserves to be in good shape. This video is so satisfying.
I watch a lot of watch repair and restoration videos on youtube but you are the very best.
I also like the fact that you don't talk you just get on with it.

Another fantastic restoration ! I wish I had your skills, tools & confidence to do this !
Not my favourite Rolex, but a great and very satisfying restoration! I'm a former airline pilot and it's funny how _none_ of my former colleagues wore a Rolex Air-King, most (incl. myself) have the GMT Master II or a 'regular' Submariner.
AK has always been pointless.
Beautiful watch...beautiful restoration. You are indeed a skilled craftsman.
Thank you! Cheers!
id rather 1 of your resto vintage over a brand new watch anyday. i cannon imagine the hours that have gone into this watch. in a throw away society, refreshing to see.
Incredibly well filmed!! I once owned a 70's Air King. Brings back memories. I never realized how intricate the watch was.
Wonderful work, it’s also something that even in its prior condition, the watch was still worth nearly 3k.
The repair of the balance wheel and rebalancing of it, is the most incredible thing I've ever seen
Another MUST WATCH content💖 truly love how you are giving tender loving care to the watch.

I just love your videos! Such skill and knowledge is wonderful to see demonstrated first hand. It would be great to hear you describe what you are doing at each stage of the restoration process as it would help novices like me to better understand what you are doing.
Absolutely stunning result! I take it you are NOT a coffee drinker. I just restored my father's 1961 Oysterdate Precision 6694. You make it look easy.
Excellent workmanship. So sad to see a Rolex this way. It's great to see you brought it back to life with amazing precision

Amazing video as always
i know I shouldnt ask but everyone is wanting to know...1. yours skills are above and beyond...so absolutely not everyone can do what you do. 2. You show the purchase price and repair costs; but whats it worth for say pre-owned value after you have finished doing your magic. I am never one to under appreciate the value of skill and thats not what is in question. Obviously its worthy of repairing just from the "youtube earnings alone" like I say its about the before and after resale value on such a classic piece that will now hopefully last another 60 years. nice one!
SO satisfying and masterfully done. This is one of your best videos and one of the top three or four watch restoration videos I've seen - and I've watched hundreds. You are such a great change of pace and your editing in this video is fantastic for the way you are trying to film it and the "tone" it has. It's relaxing and captivating and engaging all put together, and the results are phenomenal. Please keep it up with more like this.
So nice to see you restore this classic timepiece. As I was born in the mid-60's I would like to have that piece on my wrist !
It would be interesting to see a clip of these watch’s been rebuilt that isn’t zoomed in as it’s quite easy to forget what the real size of all these parts are when watching.
These videos are worth "watching" just to see your tool collection...amazing!
