This time a restore I completely battered Rolex that was worn every work day for over thirty years by 'Billy The Scaffolder' in London Town! The watch is now looked after by Cathal for whom I do this painstaking work.
The Vintage Rolex is a Reference 16000 and it is powered by a Rolex 3035 which can be tricky to work on at the best of times.

Even the Rolex Logo had been knocked loose and needed refixing to the dial!

Richard, absolutely delighted with the transformation of this!
Never thought I’d see it in such good shape after Billy and myself struck a deal for it!!! I’m looking forward to making it my new daily wear and like many others here, I’m ecstatic to see the bracelet restored!!!
Many thanks
Cathal
I love a one watch guy who wears and enjoys his one piece forever like he obviously did. I wish I could be him.
The days when a watch was for telling the time, not just to be a poseur.
What a testament to the oyster case! Beat to heck on the outside but once opened revealing a bright and shiny movement and dial. Wonderful job, Richard!!
Hi Mike ... and the moden cases design (especially in regard to the crystal fitting) is even better. These watches are built to last for sure. Great feedback. Much appreciated. Richard
You'll find that with most decent watches, not just Rolex.
I mean it’s a stainless steel case. Nothing special about it
@@garyboyle695So you think a San Martin will hold up just as well?
(Just kidding. Although it would be interesting if there will be an affordable compatible replacement for an NH35 in 30 years' time as it won't make sense to take one apart...)
I couldn’t believe how spotless inside was
It’s always a treat when you release another video. Thank you Richard.
Thanks so much @ColsTiger ! This feedback is very much appreciated! Richard
So calming watching your videos, no stupid music, the sound of you doing your stuff and the birds. Great stuff.
Glad I'm not the only one who hates uneccessary music during videos.
Beautiful outcome on a well used watch. I love seeing watches like this that were used to the fullest extent of their service life by someone in the trades.
Hi @Supercruze ... great to hera from you! I agree; this Rolex is indeed the epitome of a high quality tool used to its limits .... and then refreshed for more action! Richard
A new video by Richard always brings a smile to my face! Been following your channel since over a year now. Thank you!
Returning to watching RUclips videos after a two year absence. Yours remain a joy! And congratulations on your Major watch brand!
Welcome back Eric! We missed you! Richard
How nice to have such a nice work , thank you Richard to show us this renew project.
Love these videos, strangely very calming to watch! Thanks mate
Another fine example of exceptional craftsmanship that never fails to impress. I always look forward to your videos Richard, and this one is kind of special. Love, peace and blessing to you, and God Bless from Wendi 🌻
Another TRULY FANTASTIC video Richard you skills & attention to detail are TRULY AMAZING, now that LOVELY Rolex has been restored to PERFECTION!!!.
Yesterday by chance I listened to Carly Simon’s James Bond song “Nobody does it better”. What a perfect introduction it turned out to be to this video: “Nobody does it half as good as he …” Expertly fantastic craftmanship and sublime foto editing. Cheers from Denmark
Absolutely unreal how many components in this piece 😮.....
A true craftsman
Awesome to watch another restoration Richard. It's quite therapeutic watching the whole process, for me at least 😊. I commented last time about the scale of what we see on our TV as opposed to what you are actually dealing with! Be great to see a short video where you can perhaps describe just how tiny some of the parts actually are!
Fantastic job and was good to see a few of Billy's battle scars on the case still after the polishing! Cheers 👌😎👌
Bloody marvellous...
I do like to hear peoples stories regarding their old personal possessions... And wow, those sonic cleaners are amazing devices!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you need to remedy the bracelet...
Thanks Richard
Thank you for the video. I am currently having my Rolex Date overhauled for the second time. My wife bought it for me in 1977.
After watching this video I want to be Watchmaker. Unfortunately 78 is not the best age to start. So I look at other professionals making great videos. Thank you.
Never too late for a new hobby 👍
A pleasure to watch you work ...as usual. Keep up the great work.
Richard, Nothing short of amazing !!
I really love the look of the new Sea Wolf in Stainless steel, beautiful work.
Great work as always Mr Perrett!
Wow - fab as always 😃
Good to see the apprentice working away, another fantastic video Richard.👌
Stunning restoration.
Superb work Richard. Chapeau.
Another brilliant job done ❤
Marvellous, steady hands, very clever. 👍👍👍
Stunning
Absolutely fantastic
Much respect for your work. An expat watching in Florida.
Found your channel today. Can’t stop watching. 🎉 awesome. Well done. 🎉
Hi Paul... Thank is very good to hear sir! Thank you for taking a moment to say so! Much appreciated. Richard
Every video of yours is a gem yet this one was particularly fascinating, maybe because of the story behind it or because of the initial condition of the watch. It felt as if the watch “trusted” you to give it a new life. Well done sir 👏.
Hi @ehudwolpe ... what a great comment! Thank you so much sir! Much appreciated! Richard
Wonderful to see the watch brought back from being beaten to hell - I have to say though, that I'm almost more excited to hopefully see you go to work on the bracelet - i've seen many, many restorations of movements and cases, but it seems people either shy away from restoring bracelets for whatever reason - perhaps the special took you mentioned - but then, don't all watchmakers love accumulating quality tools (either buying them, or making their own...)
Amazing view of the watches during all of your restorations
beautifully done.
Wow, Richard! Another miracle! I've spotted you're wearing your own Major watch! Lovely! It's always a pleasure to see you working on a timepiece, especially on these Rolex movements, that you know already like the palm of your hand. Thank you for sharing and I'm very happy for your success! Speaking of which I got no doubt since your first video! Cheers from Italy.
Thanks Richard that was a lovely video 👍
Thanks so much James! Richard
Hello Richard
I am a fan from Canada
I love your work and videos
This is a stunning rolex
Thank you
Greetings Mr. Perrett. I'm so thankful for the videos you make, I have learned an incredible amount from you over the years. Thanks for making these videos and sharing your knowledge and craft with us! I recently replaced a watch crystal and watch hands thanks to watching your videos! Cheers my friend from the USA.
Hi @hawkeye454 .... such good feedback sir! And well done on the hands and crystal work. It is not as easy as it looks so it is especially interesting to get feedback on my stuff from someone who appreciates the scale at which this work is done! Greetings from Wales! Richard
Excellent work! Bully for you!! Best Regards, Jay
Absolutely fascinating. A true artist working on a work of art.
Fascinating. Thank you. I have the same watch but with a blue face. Like this one I wore it continuously for decades until the bracelet snapped without me noticing. Luckily the watch fell into the shopping bag I was carrying!! I was in HK at the time and Rolex had a service centre there who repaired the bracelet for free but advised me to get it replaced asap and have it serviced, both of which were well overdue..
You would think on such a relaxing video that the jackdaws would be intrusive, but i always love hearing them!
Hi @dsell993 ... the Jackdaws are really noisey sometimes but I do really like having them around! I think they have no idea why anyone would need a watch because to them the time is always just ... 'now'! 今! We have much to learn from Jackdaws! Thanks for the feedback! Richard
What another nice one ! Always satisfying to see how mint this movement is after a nice clean up ✨ ! By the way, your small special screwdriver is perfect 😊
Thank you for sharing this nice Rolex restoration, it’s always good to watch and appreciate! Best regards Mr. Richard ✨👌
You are crazy good at what you do.
Stunning repair on a beautiful watch cant wait for bracelet repair . Time now to start dropping hints for 60th birthday present a nice Major watch would be nice come on kids lol.
Buen trabajo.
Gracias por compartir el vídeo. Saludos.
Fabulous job Richard, looking forward to the bracelet!
Hi Robert .... thank you so much for the feedback. The bracelet video is in production and will be released very soon! Richard
Fantastic skills ❤
Excellent video great. Story. Top work from one of the best.
Hi Jon .... Good to hear from you and thank you! I have been working on a clock recently! I think the clock would prefer it was you doing the work but it has been fun for me at least! I will give you a call soon sir! Richard
I need to leave the civil service and become a scaffolder , I need that Rolex . Top job Richard what a difference. 👌
Nice to see a watch that has been worn and had a life, not bought by some so called 'watch collector' as an investment or to be worn periodically and sold when they tire of it after a year.
My first time watching. Enjoyed what I saw. You are knowledgeable in watch repair. A excellent restoration
Nice work Mate!
Splendid job , buddy
Great video but at the end my nerves were frayed. Incredible workmanship.
Why Is this so satisfying to watch, 😊
Wonderful! Very hard and professional job done!
@sectortwelve12 ... It was a bit tricky in places! Thanks so much! Richard
Epic restoration there Richard. Not many scaffolders would own a Rolex.
Hi Rod ... Thank you sir! I guess so ... but then as @ro63rto observes scaffolding is uncommonly pricey! Thanks Rod! Richard
Plenty of scaffolders Will own a Rolex, can rightly be a highly paid Trade like a solicitor, barrister, doctor or politician.
Most scaffolders could afford one' they earn good €€€
However they choose to spend most of their spare cash in the pubs .....
This guy is a rarity ' the savvy spender 😁
Nice work
Wow what a skill 👍
Simply mesmerising! could watch this for hrs. You make it look so simple a 3 y.o could do it ha ha ha.......
Another hallmark of watch restoration.
Very impressive
The condition of the watch has shown what it has gone through in several decades. But i´m sure, it certainly did a good job for it´s owner. And again perfect job from you Richard.
Richard, thanks for yet another brilliant restoration, as one would expect from a brilliant watchmaker.... accompanied by jackdaws! I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle the bracelet, and how you use that very expensive, clunky looking tool. I have a Jubilee in 18ct rollesor which has been so well and truly stretched and worn that I was going to give up on it! Maybe there is hope for it after all! Bestet! 😊
Allways a treat to see the inside of an Oyster ,and an even bigger one to watch Richard at work.
Unbelievable skill.
Lovely.
Vielen lieben Dank für die tollen Videos
It's a great to watch
Hello Sir. It has been awhile! Hope you are well. Great restoration as always. Interesting choice of watch for a scaffolder. 😄
Great video and good story, I look forward to the next episode about the bracelet, I hope that you know us watch geeks are very interested in the bracelet as well 😅
It is an excellent therapeutic video to watch
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the next video is the bracelet restoration.
Excellent work!! I see 👀 greatness in your expertise! Also love your watch ⌚️ the sea wolf. Very cool watch. I'm looking to own 1 of your watches soon! Maybe the Red or the original. I'm still debating.
I really enjoyed how the hour wheel magically got placed under the cam wheel!!
You are very good watch maker
Really enjoyed watching this. That Rolex most probably came off in a punch up lol. Love that Sea Wolf. I think I’ll be purchasing one of those this year.
i know where my watch is going for a service, great video .😁
Richard, I love your videos however there are so many channels already that show movement cleaning and reassembly. What I think is more interesting is the time spent on the case and bracelet restoration. At least that’s how I see it. I hate to admit that I fast forward through most of the movement servicing so I can get to the case and bracelet part. Thanks for listening to my opinion. Also, I want to purchase one of your watches, I think they are smashing !
Hi @wannabe_sailor_777smith6 ... yes it's easy to get too focused on the movement and I am alive to this issue and will be doing a video soon on just the refurbishment of the bracelet alone. There is much skill in this discipline I think and if filmed correctly it can make for great (and relaxing) films. The Sea Wolf that I make under my own brand Major and that is shown in this video is here .... www.majorwatches.co.uk/sea-wolf-special-edition-steel .... stay tuned for case and bracelet refinishing action! Richard
Mmm the petrified wrist cheese on the end links is so appetizing! 😅
11:17 Stealth Rolex looks amazing!
Pretty special
Nice video thnx
Nice job by a man with a passion especially like the new stainless model on your wrist
Hi @chadpyett6441 ... I am very fortunate to do what I love doing. Thank you for the feedback! Much appreciated. More details on the Sea Wolf model in this video here ... www.majorwatches.co.uk/sea-wolf-special-edition-steel ... Hope it's helpful, Richard
He was a chimny sweep... Owww what a sight!
wonderfull
Спасибо за отличное видео. Россия Вас смотрит!
Great video over clouded by the advert over kill. Never seen so many in such a short video.
Fantastic job as always! Hope you don't mind my comment... whenever I need to glue a logo or marker back on like you did (through the back of the dial), I also put a dab of glue on all the other markers as insurance. I just did one once, then the watch came back when a second one fell off. lol
Amazing to see so many construction workers wearing high end wrist watches.
Good for you .....
One man, one watch, every day.
It's good way to go on I guess Bob! Thanks! Richard
What an immense undertaking. I am in awe with your delicate, but meticulous approach to a restoration of this gem. The case, and dial appear factory fresh. I am anxious to watch the service of the bracelet. This new tool has me intrigued. All this being said, I would not be able to work with the maniacal cackling of those birds. I found nothing pleasant about them. I would invite the serenity of a songbird's melody instead. Nevertheless, this episode was narrated calmly, but maintained purpose, Well done. Cheers!
Hi Alex ... Yes the bracelet video promises to be interesting! I like the Jackdaws which is a good job I guess as they are not about go anywhere I figure. I know what you mean about songbirds and I did happen upon some amazing birdsong during one of my walks in the spring and I took the precaution of recording it. So I guess, via the magic of audio, I could have some virtual song birds temporarily oust the Jackdaws in a future video! Stayed tuned sir! Richard
Great video, I have bought a 2024 date just in February some day in the future I like too think a watchmaker will be working on my watch, am not a scaffolder though am a welder, but I don’t wear it for work!!
At least the movement looks quite clean. I am amazed at the lack of concern some people show for fine watches. If I were Billy, I would have purchased an inexpensive watch to wear during work. At my home, my Rolex is treated like royalty
Nah, Rolex are meant to be worn and life lived with. All scaffolders out there, keep wearing your Rolex on the job!
I understand your point but Rolex Oysters are built to take a hard life (which that one obviously had), so from that point of view it made sense to wear one on a scaffolding rig. Billy presumably wanted a watch that would stand up to the rigours of his job and keep on working, and he got one.
I suppose the alternative, if you don't want to spend Rolex money on a watch, would be something like a Casio G-Shock.
The Art of restraint. Marshall sent me.
without the crystal its got a great dial. Great restoration. 2x👍
