David Tenant's doctor had some of the best of the best writing. I haven't seen this scene in so many years, can't remember what the episode was about, but it still gave me chills. I remember feeling the same way when he just casually said he's the face of boe.
I remember when I watched Torchwood, there were always moments when the others would wonder about Jack, about all the things he knew and didn't tell him. Something new might be revealed every now and again, and eventually he told them he was a Human from the future, and they were floored. It was his turn then, to be the one with a past no one could imagine, just like the Doctor; and in the end he became like the Doctor, having a good time and making a difference all throughout the ages, perhaps the closest a Human (besides River) ever came to being a Time Lord.
I took that as the ultimate moral of Torchwood. The Doctor is like God, you can run with The Doctor, but don't try to be him, it will only end in tears.
Jack did travel through time and the universe, all the way past the year 5.000.000.000. He just took the long way round, instead of cheating with a Tardis :-)
It just occurred to me that “face of boe” might be a play on words from the French “beau” (beautiful). Captain jack certainly fits the name of “face of beauty”
I think it's because Jack is from the Boeshane Peninsula so he's the face of Boe as he was the first person signed up to the time agency (watch the video again)

What Eccleston and Tennant era have over Smith and onwards is the impeccable continuity between characters. It’s so nice to see many of them return. Then the writer changed and we received a whole new canon, more or less. Then Capaldi came, and we never saw anyone from Smith’s era, more or less. This new “I’ve moved on” thing he has, idk, seems poorly thought out. Oh well, not that I’m going to watch the show again. It fell from grace real hard.

its insane to think of this.. but more insane that the Face of Boe only shows up 3 times. there must be a time and form between jack and the face of boe that the doctor meets.. i dont think he lived for a million years or so.. i think something changed him into the face after a couple thousand years.
very good reveal and stuff but i saw a hilarious headcanon that jack had just overheard them talking about the face of boe and decided to play a prank on them which is ALSO completely in line with his character
One of the funny things about this reveal, Martha had mentioned The Face of Boe in front of Jack once before and he didn't say anything about it. It was when they were realizing Yana was a time lord. Jack had said "perhaps you're not the only one" and Martha replied "just like the Face of Boe said." (I might be paraphrasing those quotes.)
Another thing I don't understand is the semi-canon theory that Jack was beheaded by the monks and that's why he became the "face" of Boe. But in an episode of Torchwood Jack gets blown to pieces, head, torso, all separated. But his body grows back completely.
@@wtfjackaboy the headless monks don't actually kill people they decapitate. Somehow they can manage to keep a body and a head alive, but still being separated. However, if you look closer to the monks' bodies structure, you can see that their necks are tied in a bundle and look like they are kind of sealed. I suppose it may be a reason of why Jack's body and head can't reunite again into a whole body, because his sealed neck may prevent the other parts from becoming a whole body again. In this case, his head would have to grow its own new body, but it would cause a paradox, because there is already Jack's body in this universe, so it can't be grown again. But even being separated from the body, his head still having its conscious could just change its shape a little bit in terms of aging. And by the time someone have found him being just a head left in a box, he might have changed a lot in his appearance and so decided to have another name, because nobody knows him now. And so, thinking about his past, about his own origin, he chooses to call himself the Face of Boe from now on. But this is just my speculations on this topic, and English is not my first language so, I'm sorry if there are some mistakes.

The Davies era was about the characters, not about the adventures. That is always how it should be.
