Thank you so much for this video. Last month my garage disposal got jammed. Itz old so I ordered a new one from Home Depot thinking the old one had given out. I called a handyman. When he came he said you can probably take the new one back. He told me about the reset button. He showed me to stick my hand in and feel around which I really rather not do. I can't reach the outlet to unplug it. I'm too chunky and too old to get under the sink. Then he asked me if I had the tool that came with the disposal. I said what tool?? He said itz okay and he pulled out an Allan wrench he said there's another way to reset it. He told me there's a hole under the disposal where with the Allen wrench he could loosen whatever is stuck. He didn't show me that part. I had no idea where the hole was or how to use the Allen wrench until I watched your video. I paid him $50 that day. And when it jammed today I as very anxious knowing I was going to have to pay another $50. I'm on Social Security now so I have to stay on a budget but thank to your video I was able to follow it and unjam the disposal. You taught an old dog a new trick. Thank you much. I appreciate it and will follow you to see what else I can learn from you.

You can buy a new disposal for like $100, can’t be that hard to change either. Especially if you have the same kind I do- it plugs into an outlet, isn’t direct wired.

This worked perfectly! Somehow a small glass jar fell into the garbage disposal breaking into several pieces when I turned it on. It was jammed with several glass pieces. Glad I found this video. Apartment maintenance weren’t gonna come until Monday (it’s Friday now). I looked around for the tool in a toolbox I haven’t accessed in years and it was there! I almost missed it too. I looked through the toolbox and actually put it back, but then I noticed that I forgot to put back in the toolbox the top shelf that covers the main storage of the toolbox. I look in that shelf and it was there! The tool is labeled “Food Waste Disposes”. It fit the machine perfectly and after a few turns, it was fixed! I’m so happy that a video made 9 years ago is still helping people. Thanks!

I just want to thank you. I don’t know anything about this stuff and I’ve had this garbage disposal stuck for six months. I couldn’t move the Allen wrench at all and I was afraid if I kept using strong force, I would break something. I pulled as hard as I could and I literally thought I was going to rip the garbage disposal out of the wall and then to my surprise the clog cleared up. Thank you man I appreciate it.

Man-oh-MAN!! Thanks so much for putting this video up. I was a few minutes from calling a plumber when I decided to just see if it is possible that there is something to help on this on RUclips. Doing dishes, a shot glass fell in when draining the water. Didn't see it and ran the disposal. Started loud chopping of the glass and immediately jammed. Actually found the disposal wrench in my old tool box. I had it and never knew it was specifically for the disposal. Moved the blades with the wrench and could hear the glass pieces in there. It was some delicate surgery with some small-sized tongs to get the pieces, but it certainly worked. What a HUGE time and money saver! THANK YOOOOU!!!

YOU JUST SAVED ME AT LEAST $150! I have a home warranty and they would have charged $150 for someone to come out and fix this. Not to mention, if they told me it was much worse than it really was? I would have never known it. They would have charged me even more if they could.
    1. Tried the red reset button. Still jammed.
    2. Turned the breaker off
    2. Tried to stick my hand in and see if there was something I could pull out... Nope.
So, per your instruction, I turned the disposal off from the breaker. Got the 1/4 inch Allen wrench from the garage. Stuck it into the center hex, and after one rotation all was clear. I actually heard whatever it was release and all the stagnant water flush down. Turned the breaker back on... and it works perfectly again!
God bless you! You made my day!

Thank you! You probably saved me about $200. My Garbage disposal stopped working, so I took a picture of it and went to Home Depot to find a replacement. While looking at the garbage disposals in Home Depot, I zoomed in on my picture to see if I could find the brand name. All of a sudden, right before my eyes, there it was: "Push red button to reset". I went back home, found the reset button, pressed it, and turned on the switch. I could hear the motor trying to turn, but it couldn't, so I turned off the switch. I tried to turn by hand as you did (I know, I should have unplugged the power cord to be safe), but no luck. I know I can fix it after watching this, but don't have an allen wrench that big. Wish I had watched this before I went to Home Depot!
UPDATE: I actually was able to MacGyver a crescent wrench and socket screwdriver tip to fit. It took some doing because the thing has not been used for months, but I got it working! Thanks again!

If it's completely jammed, get a long socket extension and socket that will fit the center nut on the top plate and turn. You'll see the nut looking into the center of sink. Turn clockwise with the ratchet to free it. If it reaches this stage, you should just remove it and clean it out so it will run for a few more years.

Thanks for the straight-forward and easy to follow video! Tried other methods to get it unstuck and nothing worked; hard water and rust deposits really got it stuck. Had to use the allen wrench (which I'm so glad I had) and it was running smoothly in less than a minute. May your kindness and generosity from posting this video be returned to you ten fold.
