  • The land of the legendary African walking safari, Victoria Falls, the wild Zambezi River, abundant wildlife, and raw wilderness, all in one friendly country.
The Team from Ironman 4x4 Africa traveled with Tour guides, Simon and Dess from Ultimate Adventures to Zambia.
In the first episode, Dirk and Mic meet up with Ultimate Adventures at Kasane in Botswana and travel together to Kabula Lodge next to the Zambezi River.
Situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, Western Zambia, Kabula Lodge has been specifically designed to provide affordable, comfortable, and relaxing holiday accommodation for families who love fishing, birding, and the outdoors and who want to enjoy Africa and the bush at its pristine best. Kabula is also a recognised haven for the keen fisherman wanting to catch a trophy Tiger Fish.

Also known as Sioma Falls because these Falls are near the village of Sioma. These beautiful Falls mark the transition point of the Zambezi Rivers’ flow from the Kalahari sand floodplain to basalt dyke - the latter eventually contributing to the magnificent gorges of Victoria Falls.
The horseshoe-shaped Ngonye Falls are mostly impressive because of the sheer volume of water that cascades over the staggered, twenty-meter drop. An interesting aspect is that the river flows underneath the rock on either side of the falls. It is quite remarkable to stand upon them, feeling and hearing the underground flow.

Laughed so hard hearing Mic's lecture about behaving in his car. He's surely particular about passenger etiquette 😉, nice video as always Dirk, and thanks for taking us along.

Great adventure! Quick question: I am planning on doing two-three 7-14 day overlanding trips a year in remote areas with the occasional weekend away. Do I need to spend the bucks on a lithium battery or e.g. AGM? I'm planning on running a 78l fridge with couple of lights at night and charging my phone on trips to Botswana. Cheers Wessel

Hi Wessel. All batteries do the same thing. Store energy to run your fridge and camp lighting when you are not driving, plugged into shore power or using your solar panel. My experience with 100/110 AH Lead Acid Flooded Cell, AGM, Gel and Lithium auxiliary batteries is as follows:
      1. Lithium is way lighter if vehicle load and GVM are an issue.
      2. My Flooded cell battery would power my camp for about a day and a half working very carefully. At 55 Amps drawn out of the battery, voltage was down to 12,1 Volts. This battery is essentially almost flat. AGM and Gel fared a little better. My Lithium battery delivered 80 AH over a 2 day period, so 20 AH capacity left. At this point it was still delivering 13,02 Volts.
      3. My Danfoss powered fridge draws around 2,0 Amps per hour over a 24h period. That's 48 Amps out of the battery which would render a Lead Acid battery almost flat as opposed to a Lithium that could still deliver almost another 20 odd hours depending on how you configure it. Mine is configured to switch off at 20%.
The question is whether or not you're willing to spend 4 to 5 times the money on Lithium to get a load more usable capacity from your battery?
