Whoa Nelley, X (body) marks the spot and that's all we got. Yup, Ken Schultz Buick-GMC was dealer #27-619 and this is possibly now Quality Buick-GMC located at 7901 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Mr. Schultz was a troubled figure in the community and not without much controversy: www.abqjournal.com/news/metro/560387metro05-06-07.htm
We got the VIN, we win: 4 for Buick, C for Skylark Custom, 27 for two door coupe, A for Buick produced 231 CID V6 (3.8L) with two barrel aka RPO code "LD5", 8 for 1978 model year, W for Willow Run, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Willow Run plant closed around 1993 for assembly, after that it became a GM parts plant. It was located at 2625 Tyler Road, Willow Run, MI 48198. This one won't last with a 231 V6 under the hood. Weak oiling system, probably will knock like a banshee when it's fired up. Parts car at best, including donating the front spindles for a disc brake conversion project.
No tag, can't brag, but I got it figured out (to a degree), no doubt: ST78 for 1978 model year, 4XC27 for Buick Skylark Custom two door coupe, WRN for Willow Run, MI assembly, 11U for White lower exterior paint, 11T for white vinyl top, probably A52 for front bench seat, possible 77 for red interior trim, build date code is unknown.
As others noted, this is one of the "X" body family of cars consisting of the Nova (Chevrolet), Omega (Olds), Ventura (Pontiac) and Apollo (Buick), forming the name "NOVA" which was a joke in Spanish as it means "Doesn't Go". They were made at various plants including Van Nuys, CA, Willow Run, MI, Tarrytown, NY, and Oshawa, Ontario Canada in this generation, speaking of North American plants. They sold very well and share parts with other GM cars, including the F body cars of the era. We had a '79 Phoenix which was Carmine red with a 231 V6 which we bought as a stop gap in 1979 after the 2nd gas crisis hit, putting off the purchase of a Trans Am until 1980 (which as many know, I still have today). I also had a 1979 four door Nova, code #15 Platinum with a 305 V8 in it that I got from my uncle in 1993. He was the original owner. I sold it for $700 to buy dress clothes to interview for my first job. I still have the shoes from back then, they are like new. LOL.
Whoa Nelley, in rust we do not trust. Benny is not a fan (of this generation) and it's soon to become a soda can. Made in Willow Run and it's done. $1899, not so fine. Going to be flat and that's that. That's it, time to quit. LD5 took a nosedive. Going to be squished and the "Flint" faithful are probably only slightly pissed.

Do they deal? To me $1899 means somewhere between $1500 and $1750. Which is probably still a tad high given the rust damage.
I picked a column out of a Ventura like this in Columbia, SC that was in better shape than this. It was a tilt and it sold pretty fast. There's probably close to the $1500 in fairly easy bits parting it out.
Of course after you read the VIN there it is in orange on the windshield.

@@googleusergp Yep.... You start out the talk with "So how much do you want for this $300 car". That thing is going to need all new sheet metal from the B Pillar on back, the metal under that landau top is proball toast too, The Buick Rally's are worth more than the rest of the car, The interior is decent but you'd have to spray dye them, noone wants bright red seats or interior anymore..... I would completely walk away at anything more than $500 and I may throw a "I'll think about it" at $500, because there's no telling how much inner structure damage there is because of all the rust from the Vinyl top and the holes in the trunk and rear quarters.

@@googleusergp That depends on the condition of the engine and drivetrain and it also depends on who does the body work. My parents owned a body shop when I was growing up, I literally started slinging putty when I was 4 or 5 years old, When I went through welding class in high school I literally taught the MIG welding and brazing classes because I was better at it and had just as much experience at it as the teacher did so the labor part for me would be "free" and labor is the major part of restoring a car. That being said I I would replace the hood and entire back half of that car and just throw a cheap paint job on it and drive the hell out of it.

    • @googleusergp
