Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants, to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. I love that he’s laughing of joy bc Charles realizes how many mutants exist and they really aren’t alone
Most people overlook the subtext of the whole series, which is that deviants are a good thing and normal is bad. This is a left ideology, promoting the LGBT and those with abnormalities that generally are objectively not just "different" but in fact defects on the design. Someone with extra chromosomes or extra digits or autism or huntingtons and so forth do not have super powers, they are just mistakes, genetic or environmental birth defects and being "normal" is actually just being healthy without major inherent flaws.
No. That's your spin on it.
Fun fact: Mcavoy himself stated he shaved his hair for First Class, because he had never read the comics before and didn’t know if Xavier was born bald or not. When the director told him otherwise, he laughed and had to get hair extensions. That line he threw in was adlibbed.
Its actually days of future past were he accidentally shaved his head. He explained it in a recent interview with GQ. Delete your comment for misinformation
@@beccarain00

I love how Erik is openly fascinated with Charles's powers.
That's because being able to control metal is nothing compared to what a telepath of Charles' caliber is capable of. Erik knows that he might make for a good assassin or soldier, but Charles could shift the destiny of nations if he really wanted to.
Is mind control powerful than say a super power?
@@franky-fr9ow Absolutely. Mutants like Magneto can only make people do what they want by threatening them with their powers. However, fear alone is a very unreliable means of controlling people.
Mutants like Xavier, however, can make people do what they want by directly controlling them, without any ability to resist. I've not read enough of the comics to know if this ever comes up, but Xavier could do so many terrible things with his powers. He could make some politician un-alive themselves live on TV, make the President launch nuclear missiles, or simply assassinate anyone he doesn't like, anywhere in the world, at any time with the aid of Cerebro.
@@ryang2573 yet he couldn't stop apocalypse by himself.
@@franky-fr9owbecause apocalypse is a different level of being. It took several omega level mutants to defeat him including charles. Apocalypse is a freak of nature capable of defeating even gods like thor. Ofc charles alone isnt enough to control him
2:00-2:27
That part always gives me chills. The first time Cerebro is used canonically. Also you can see how much joy Charles feels when he sees just how many mutants there really are
The score is fkn AWESOME 👌
It's a great scene
That is B**lSh**t scene😂
0:44 what if I say no?
Charles: **uses mind control** you will agree with us
*waves his hand*
"these are not the droids you're looking for"
skull face
Charles: *uses mind control* You won't.
Bro really had the audacity to say that to two of the most powerful mutants that can destroy him in a second lol
this will always be my favorite film of the x-men series, the chemistry between Charles and Eric is palpable
I still remember seeing Xavier use Cerebro in Days of Future Past and seeing just people being tortured, and it made me remember this scene where he uses it and is laughing in joy to see how many mutants are out there just happily living their lives. Such a bleak contrast :(
It was such a good indictment of his worldview too. Perhaps more than anyone he had the ability to know it was happening and stop it but instead he tried to block it out, half cowardice but half because he didn't believe in using his powers to directly help mutantkind. In basically all of the X-Men movies there's some form of genocide happening against mutants and he could easily just mind control a few people (president, congress, media moguls) to help push humanity towards being accepting but he didn't. I wonder if future Days of Future Past Professor X, having seen where his abstemiousness lead, regretted being so timid.
It's a shame you don't really see more synthesis between Erik's militancy and Charles' committment to integration the same way you see their opposition vs adherence to assimilation embodied via their relationships to Mystique/Raven.
In the movie version, because it amplifies his telepathy, he can cause pain or damage by lingering too long with his attention focused on just one individual, like someone getting over-heated by having a hugely powerful spotlight being tight-focused onto them. It's just a side-effect of taking one of the most powerful telepaths on the planet and hooking him up to a machine that amplifies that telepathy.
Erik, of course, was right about everything.

Funny, how they talk like he has hair here ... because that's not his own hair: James McAvoy actually did shave his head in anticipation of playing Charles as bald. They had to give him a wig for this movie.
This is so sad for me Charles went from this and to the Charles in Logan where hes fucked up
What's very tragic is that the Alzheimer's disease turned his powerful mind into a deadly weapon that killed every student at his school including the X-Men.

Magneto. Perhaps the best written character in movie history.
Especially his background considering he is a survivor of some nasty camps.
2:19 the music never stops to hype me
Sucks that this was the only movie to use this score. Totally should have been included in the other films that followed this timeline (at least the ones that took place until 1992).
Everyone would have noticed Storm but not many would have noticed Cyclops in the background at 2:15 Lol , best scene of the movie !
I always love the cameos when Charles sees the other mutants. You can see Cyclops and Storm there, for example.
Love this movie.
Where
Storm is the kid with white hair and Cyclops is in 2:16 @@squeebiusprime6923
In 2:09 and 2:15 Cyclops and Storm appear in a brief cameo. Wish the First Class movie was faithful to the comic and introduce the actual first X-Men members, that would have being cool.

Imagine one guy able to read the thoughts of everyone in the world. But trust him, he's a good guy.
Hell no.
It's like being God in Bruce Almighty, he starts hearing thousands of prayers he wishes he could do something about but he isn't all powerful.

I'd have to step in to take that away from him.
@@fjccommish So you'd be the old chomo from the Deadpool 2 movie? Trying to cure everyone always leads to worse problems for everyone. (the sentinels, the cure, and awakening apocalypse)
Charles is more important alive and on the humans side, and besides there are upper limits to his powers, he's not Onslaught which was made of Charles and Erik's hatred of human mixed with their power in Charles mind.
People also forget Wanda and Dr Strange and all those Mcu characters also exist in their universe, he is a small insignificant drop in the pond compared to Jean Grey as well.

Nice "Storm" and "Scott" cameos but given that they are teens in the 80's, the girl with white hair and the boy with sun glasses are just other mutants

If they had this machine this early in the timeline, they should have prioritized saving mutants that were being tortured and experimented on in captivity.
The CIA asked the NSA first but the NSA said no thanks we got Facebook...
I love the scene, but I must admit I got a bit distracted by the IBM tape units. We were still using those when I was in the USAF in the late 80s / early 90s. They'd only be turing steadily like that if you were erasing the magnetic tape! (Alternative explanations: these are being used to record audio or video; they're providing background music in the lab.) :D
Recording data from Charles using Cerebro, in case there is a problem and they need to go over what happened?
what if i say no?
Charles: i could make you say yes.
It's really scary if you think about it.
You have no way to tell wether your mind was manipulated or not. You would think that it wasn't because they you would have no doubts but...the thought is kidna recursive.
2:10. In case you missed it that storm.
2:15 Cyclops with the baseball glove and shades in the background also
2:09 storm and 2:15 cyclops
then in 10 years time (in the film) she is a homeless girl on the streets stealing
Meanwhile, Scott is still only some punk kid in high school. (I know that’s not how Cerebro works, but are we sure we didn’t just see the future?)
A fascinating thought popped through while I watched this while sorting my Yu-Gi-Oh cards out, the charmer girls from their archetype, winding up as mutants.
I thought magneto and charles invented cerebro
In the original trilogy, they did. Charles and Erik didn’t become enemies until after the 80s. Charles wasn’t paralyzed until after the 80s also. This is based on the original trilogy and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Pretty awesome ^^
I think we could call agree that Charles Xavier looks better with hair
The Cerebro Helmet
Actually charles is one the very powerful mutant above erik he can control metals but charles can control everyone across the globe and even kill them and make them his puppet 😊😊
Good thing his hair did not get in the way of his brain waves.

Realistically, tons of the people should’ve been in bed.
I guess the ones he found first, the ones we see in this scene, are the closest ones to cerebro and since it's day where tit is that's why they are awake

Erik rightly so reminds Charles and in other of the movies of his past like . I've been a lab rat i know one when I see one. Is cerebro a mutant?
It's a machine
"So how important was your mission?"
-Not enough that we'd actually answer anything to the very powerful Wolverine, speak to him through telepathy or freeze people around to show him we are mutants like him, all after a several hours drive. No, we only bothered for the weak, pixie-winged stripper. By the way she betrayed us soon after.
