Remember when X-Men was much more popular than the Avengers?
Yes!!
that was actually the reason it was sold to fox. other studios wanted marvel's most popular franchises to profit off them, so fox bought x men and the fantastic four, sony bought spiderman. Both profited a ton off their movies, and marvel studious was left with relatively unknown characters. BUT, they made the MCU, which was way more popular than both other series, and now they have access to mutants and spiderman characters

Back in the 80s and 90s... that was the case... even the spidey was less popular than the xmen, because the person running marvel comics at the time had turned the xmen into the main comic book series in the marvel comic book industry.
X-Men have always been so much more interesting and colorful than the Avengers for me
They were the bigger branch too, marvel sold everything but the bottom of the barrel avengers characters, and then managed to take those dredges to make their MCU movie empire

I think the problem was that early X-Men comics felt too much like a combination of Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. Fantastic Four in that they were a team (With powers that kind of paralleled the FF), and Spider-Man in that they were all teenagers. The comic kind of felt like it was created for marketing reasons more so than any creative spark.
Sad thing is, they were gaining some traction in their later Silver Age issues; the Thomas/Adams team was writing some pretty great stories featuring the return of the Sentinels and the introduction of Sauron and the Savage Land Mutates. Following their demotion to re-print book status, they made quite a bunch of guest appearances in other Marvel books thruout the early 70s, especially in books written by Steve Englehart. He took a shine to the Beast and put him in the Avengers. Chris Claremont had been a fan of those Thomas/Adams stories, and it's why he wanted Scott and Jean to feature prominently in his own run with the All New All Different team.
It is simple the history is of outcasts fighting an opressive society, people did not like underdogs back then.

Juggernaut was an x man at one point he changed his ways but went back to being a villian after he couldn't save a child from his bully's and parents.
The animation and motion graphics was like killer stuff. Loved when all the mutants come in one line and you have tracked the camera on all of them. Great video. Honestly had a tough time to read about the mutants and also follow up the narration which many times was not about what you are seeing on screen. Just thought I should let you guys know as you work so hard to make such great vids

This cannot be stressed enough when watching...this is only referring to members of the X-Men team within the comics. This doesn't necessarily include X-Force, X-Factor, Excalibre although they are all mentioned. Some characters like Morph were not comic characters and therefore are excluded even though "Changeling" is technically the morph of the comics. Great video and covered pretty much the majority of the comic characters in decent detail!

Right, they show him among the Muir Island X-Men, but he actually joined the X-Men before the Muir Island Saga, on his own.
The same with Northstar, who they bunched in with Jean Greys recruits, but he actually left the team right after that and didn't join until a couple years later, again, on his own, which they forgot to mention also.

If Marvel/Disney do get the rights back that's probably what they'll do. They'll start from the beginning like they did for Spider-man and cast actual teenagers to play the original team in their first ever costumes.

i think people would die doing that. the Avengers has been reformed and rebooted so many times it crazy, pretty much every "hero" and many villians have been a members at somepoint. I remeber an 80s issue of new avengers where the front page was just a team meeting and they couldn't fit eveyerone on page, and most of em where barely heads.

X-men comics are more popular than avengers wish they would update this video for all the x teams on krakoa right now
For those who keep saying “they forgot Morph”: Morph is Changeling. The 1990s cartoon put Changeling in the series, called him Morph because of copyright issues (I think there was a movie or TV show that still had the trademark to the name), gave him one of the classic blue and gold uniforms and killed him off in the 2nd episode to show how serious this X-Men cartoon was. But his popularity led to him being resurrected and made a recurring, supporting character in season 2 onward.
In “Age of Apocalypse” the comics introduced a new version of Morph, who was bald and had Play-Do like white skin, and another version of that Morph was a member of the spin-off team Exiles. But, neither Morph was in the Marvel-616 X-Men.
Beast Boy took the name Changeling during the 90s (and I think the 80s as well) which is what led to the copyright issues since Marvel hadn't used the name due to their character having been dead for decades.
Morph/Changeling came back on cartoon as one of the Apocalypse's 4 Horsemen, am I right?

Morph has one of the best abilities out of the entire X-Men universe. Although he's not very powerful, his ability is one of the most useful. Not only can he change into anyone, but he can also manipulate any part of his body. For instance, if someone is shooting at him, he can change the position of his organs so that he won't sustain fatal injuries. Also, he can grow muscles to be stronger, grow wings to fly, give himself gills to breathe underwater, heal himself faster than normal, and anything else his imagination can come up with. I would kill to have his power.
Murph was beast boy and not mentioned and they killed him off but he didn't die he got brainwashed by sinister and he came back and Save the Day then he burned off and was like forget everyone I got to get my mind right but was my favorite character and Wolverines best friend

I loved that you included the Cameron siblings. I would've added M a little earlier (she was on the Uncanny team when Black Tom became a mutant tree), and that the Sharra Thunderbird had joined prior to Dream's End. Other things would be splitting hairs like when DeFilippis and Weir's New Mutants got rebranded as "New X-Men", and Kyle and Yost threw them more into an active team situation.

GinsuSher I've read Grant Morrison's whole run. Xorn is introduced and seems like a fascinating character. Then the final year of his run went to crap. Xorn turns out to be Magneto on drugs, acting stupider than he ever did since 1965! If he was that dumb and insane, how did he simulate the "star for a brain"and how did he do such a good job embodying a Chinese healer with a zen attitude?
Too make things worse, Marvel's editors apparently clumsily retconned a lot of Morrison's work after the fact because they don't know how to let go and allow new characters to rise.

Morph goes by Changeling when he first appears in the comics. That's why there isn't a specific "Morph" in the video
This video only includes people on the main X-Men team. X-Force, New Mutants, New X-Men, X-Factor, are not on here. That is why there is no Quicksilver, Deadpool, and most of the X-Kids.

LunaticReason, in the video it counts people on teams that are not the core X-men. It's very hard to tell which is the core team too, and there are times when it doesn't exist but something like x-force does.
Henning ley I am pretty certain that most of these characters where part of the core teams. Who do you think wasn't a core member? Yeah its a bit hard to tell which where the core teams especially during the Jean Grey Institute era with all the students. If you've been a long time X-men like I have, think of a character and try to remember if they where actually a reoccurring part of the book or just guest starring and how often they went on mission.Also where they on any of the covers
