Open Air Outdoors *LeRichebliss* Howdy to y’all up there- thanks for watching and commenting. I’m pretty much “ old school “ on quite a bit of things I do. It worked for the older folks and I figure it’ll work for me. I do like to use “modern “ tools along with my old tools. God bless y’all
Duane T64 Howdy Duane- thank you so much. Our intentions were to give as much information necessary for others to do their own cabin build. I’m sure I may slip up sometimes, but, it’s not on purpose. God bless y’all
I had to go a lot deeper in Canada the frost dug an upside down mushroom placed 9. 16 inch sona tubes leveled them with a home depot water level beeps when level ! This makes it good to get under the cabin for ceptic water lines electric lines etc ! God bless !
Howdy Scott- I’m sure you did up there. Our frost depth is only a few inches but l still go down well below that. We don’t have the winters here that we had when l was growing up. A water level is a good thing to use for getting everything on the money. Hope all is well with y’all. Take care and God bless you

Great to see the build underway Paul. I appreciate the detailed information you have given in this video. That's great that you had some help with the digging.
Almost Homestead Howdy y’all- I was glad to have help with the digging for sure. I’m having to deal with the rainy weather this time of year. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless y’all
Loftis Party of Six - weROAM Howdy Y’all- thanks for watching and commenting. Hey, that’s exciting to hear!! I hope all goes well for you. We’re dealing with lots of rain here and it’s kinda holding up progress. More coming in tomorrow and the next day. Let me know if I can help you in any way. God bless ya’ll in your journeys.
I was up in Nova Scotia Canada used footings like an upside dowm mushroom the 16 inch sonnaa tubes used fiber glass concrete Lafarge . great videos great exclamations of what needs to be done great job !!!
scott McIntosh Howdy Scott, that’s very interesting about the footing shape. I never have done that myself but I have heard of it before. We don’t have to go as deep because the frost line is so shallow here. We don’t have much winters here anymore. Very rare for the ground to freeze nowadays. Thanks for sharing that with us. God bless you
Bamacher59 Howdy- Thank you so much for watching the videos, we now have 28 out. Still in the learning process of doing them. Thanks for your support and God bless you!
oklahomacrabber Howdy y’all- I was thankful to have him come over that day. He’s a real hard worker and has to get everything perfect. Unusual for these days. God bless y’all
Love watching your work sir! Slowing getting caught up on your videos but I kinda cheated and watched this one to see where we were going haha :-). Have a great day!
old school with a modern twist Howdy James- Sure was thankful for the help. Most of what I do it’s just me and no help so I have to figure out how to do a lot of things alone. God bless y’all
I used 16 inch sonna tubes and used extra long strings as it exaggerated the out of square so you may see it easily check with a framing square and home depot has a water level it was about 25 bucks it had a beeper and clear tubing recomended .
Ron Bailey Howdy - Matthew 7:24 is on our business cards , has been for years. Our ground is real rocky here and where the cabin is going it’s pretty much a rocky ledge. God bless y’all
William Fleming Howdy William- the sill logs are 16’ long and they need some support in the middle. The corner piers are set back so the anchor bolt misses the corner notch. God bless y’all
Hi Mr. Carpenter, thank you so much, your videos are awesome. I have watched a ton a videos on building cabins and yours really stand out. I would like to know about the depth of the pier; you don't seem do dig very deep. Is it because the frost line in your area is shallow? Here in Quebec, Canada, the frost line is often 5 to 6 feet deep. If I wanted to build a cabin like yours, does it mean I should dig that deep? Thank you in advance.
C Descombe Howdy- where we’re located we don’t get real cold temperatures so our frost line isn’t that deep. I don’t know what your building codes are but I would go with what they suggest. I’ve watched a lot of videos of people in Canada who have or are building cabins and they aren’t going that deep with the footings, but, those guys are building off grid so they may not have to comply to a code where they are building. Hope it all goes well for you. God bless you
Great channel man, appreciate all the hard work and advice! Is that red clay soil your building in? I'm planning to build a log home for my family on my land and it is a lot of clay soil....slow draining. Was hoping to do pier blocks like you. Place them every 6 feet along sil logs, below frost line and real wide at the bottom. Rarely gets below zero here. Will be a big heavy log home 35x35 or so, with gentle slope away on all sides..should I be worried? Any advice you can provide would be very appreciated. Thank you stay safe God bless
Mead Longbows Howdy- yes, red clay is what I’m building on with many rocks to deal with also. The footings are well below our frost line for here. This cabin is right on the peak of a ridge so I don’t have to worry about drainage. Having a good footing and foundation is important with anything you build in my opinion. Hope all goes well for you with your building project. Would love to see the progress when you get started. Take care and God bless you and your efforts
Howdy George- if you watch the video Girder and Subfloor Dovetail Log Cabin Build Ep.18. you can see the girder and posts I put under the floor. God bless
Howdy y’all- the piers are 8’ on center. Like you said your soil may determine what you do. Do you have local building codes you have to adhere to? Wishing you the very best with your cabin build. God bless
Hello had a quick question for you I’m not sure where you live, what is your frost line where you live so you know how deep to put your footer thanks Brian
Bamacher59 Howdy- our frost line isn’t very deep here. Our winters are pretty mild anymore. If we get a freeze that goes 3 or4” it’s real cold for us. We’re in western Arkansas. God bless
Howdy y’all- that’s actually below the frost line for here. The ground very seldom freezes below six inches. Thank you so much for watching the video. God bless
I have recommended your channel to a young man who is building a tiny house and was offered logs to cut in half lengthwise to use them as siding. Hope that was alright .
Dennis Dickson Howdy Dennis- I measure diagonally from corner to corner knowing the strings are parallel and the measurements are the same. I use a construction calculator and find what the diagonal measurement should be. There’s more information on the video when I payed out for the smoke house foundation. It’s in the playlist. God bless you
Howdy Allan- when I put in a pier I usually do the footing as a 2’x2’ and 14”-18” deep. Our soil is pretty good and solid and we don’t have to worry about ground heave because our winters are really mild. Hope this helps. God bless
MISTY Howdy Misty- finally got a day without rain and the piers are poured, Thank the Lord. With so much rain I haven’t been able to do anything- more rain moving in this weekend. Thanks for watching and God bless
