- Amendment 3 of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations has just be released by the IET and in this video from LearnElectrics we will look at how this affects us in our workday life and in our college and academic studies. We will answer the question of what we need to do in order to comply with the Regulations.
For most of us, there should be NO need to buy a new Wiring Regulations book, if you do certain things, and we will explain this.
If you already have the Amendment 2 Brown book, then the IET have given you, me, us, a no cost solution to keeping up to date with the new Amendment.
We will show you how to acquire your free copy of the new Amendment 3, what it means in our electrical installation work, what must we do, and how to incorporate it into the existing book.
This is video number 250 and to view all our videos type in LearnElectrics all one word into the RUclips search bar.
Visit our RUclips channel where we have many more videos on a wide range of electrical topics.
Thanks for keeping us updated

You are most welcome, thank you for watching. Dave.
Great video 👍.
I have the 18th Exam - a blue Book exam in 2019. Since then 3 amendments have been issued and new Brown Book is new regulated book we should be using.
Could I download the 3 amendments and keep them in the blue book, and
Wait until the 19th Edition is released and do the new exam ?
Thanks
Not at all, the blue book has been withdrawn and there are so many changes between blue and brown, plus the amendments, that don't encompass all the changes. Brown book it is. Amendment 4 is in 2026 so 19th Edition will be a few years after that. thanks for watching. Dave.
@@learnelectrics4402 thank you for your reply..
New brown book it is then.. plus the associated books with it 👍
Its got to be done. It will last you a couple of years. I can't see 19th edition happening until 2029 at least. I will obviously keep you updated. Dave.
@@learnelectrics4402 thanks for replying once again.
I’ve just enrolled on C&G 2391 - 50 course at local college so will need to buy the new editions 👍
Always very informative and educational.
Thank for all the great videos you have created.
Happy to hear that. Thanks.
Thanks Dave
Very welcome, thank you.
Top man 👌⚡Thankyou 👍
Glad it helped, thanks.
Thank you for the heads up .
You Do have value in the videos that you produce and we sparks say Keep doing what you do.
It took them a while to reach this amendment, don't we think.
I first became aware of this need around 15 years ago, when doing a PV roof installation course and realised that the belt you could get from PV cells if you don't handle them correctly, could do you a lot of damage. Same with electric vehicles.
When were the first milk floats and this was relevant back then, but is only being made an amendment in 2024.
Hmm.
What an interesting read Peter. Thanks for you input, appreciated. Dave.

Thank you for the value you give to us pasty arsed sparks. Since I saw this it has brought up a lot of conversations in the last few days, of the faceless experts who seem to be well too slow in protecting us and all to eager to shoot us down with "knowledge" and regulations that all us lads and girls on the front line have been asking for, for the longest of times.
Cheers buddy 🍻
Thanks for the visit, very much appreciated. Dave.
Another great vid......
Thanks again, appreciated. Dave.
Any updates for OSG ,
Not at the moment Peter, but I will keep a finger on the pulse. The next amendment is 2026 I believe. I;ll let you know as soon as I do. Thanks for your support. Dave.
Best site for electrician ,old and young
Thank you, very much appreciated.
I have learnt a lot!! from this super hero
So glad, thanks for watching.
Why does the mcb trip if live touches neutral what is the reason thanks
It is because the short circuit fault current exceeds the rating of the MCB and trips it to protect the cable
Exactly as Olly states below. Dave.
Brilliant support Olly, thank you. Dave.
@learnelectrics4402 I have an electrical setup with a meter that has Low & Normal (Economy 7) also there is a big white analog Sangamo timer which controls the heater fuse box. I asked EDF for a Smart Meter and they said I can't get one because of signal issues in the area. Is it possible for me to ask EDF to install a Smart Meter in limited mode and remove the old Sangamo timer?
This is something that only your supplier can answer. Different regions have slightly different rules.
I'm here again
Always welcome. Dave.
Surely charging your car at work to charge your batteries at home is stealing
Thanks for the input, I agree, but I had to explain two way flow somehow. Thanks for watching. Dave.
Lots of repetition.
Thanks for watching.
