modding with GBS Control is the way to go. There are multiple options to the mod process beyond adding the ESP controller. The 3 control pots are terrible, and nearly every mod starts with cutting those out and replacing them, as well as a few strategically placed capacitors. Once done, they become pretty GOOD devices, at a much lower cost. For all of us with faulty mk.1 eyeballs, more than sufficient.

I just wanted to write that. Gbs-control is whole new level for crappy stock GBS8200

I second all this, gbs control and all the mods makes a massive difference! 👍

    1. There is a alternative firmware for it called gbs-control.
    2. I think you can use VGA DB15 input insted of this pin connector. Take good old quality VGA monitor cable (proper shilding) and solder DB23 on one side or use DB23 adapter.
    3. I bought mine few years ago for 16$ but never used it ;)
For testing and moving icons is great. For dynamic games...ehh after mods can be usable. 23$ + some work its a win win

I suspect you already know about the mod to this, gbs-control, it will make the image quality 10 times better. It is well worth the job.

The amiga RGB cable need some resistors to not risk blowing up the monitors/tvs RGB input. It may work without resistors for an extended time but eventually somerhing may blow. 😞

You can get a much better picture by covering the bus lines on the bottom of the pcb with aluminum sticker tape to reduce interference. Check one of the Retro Caveman videos

i wish these had a nicer, crispy image to it but it washes out and makes everything soft. Also someone should really make a compact version that could fit inside a amiga to make a cheap hdmi conversion with audio

The little wavey lines can be eliminated by covering the data lines from the ram on the rear of the card.
Use copper tape to cover just the length of the data line.
    Cheap and works.
Sorry posted it before you mentioned it 😉

The copper tape worked on mine. The hardest bit is printing a case for it, to make it look priddy and ready for prom night.

@@hidden_vault on the underside, its a bit trial and error but mine is in the area where the signal tracks goto the silicon. I also soldered a tab to ground for both my squares of tape, with a short bit of single core cable.

Been using one for a few years now coupled with the GBS Control firmware. The 2A power requirement is a myth, it quite happily runs 0.5A power supply also. I used an old nokia power supply for mine.

So, I received mine from Aliexpress and wanted to pair it with my PC CRT monitor and Amiga 500. PSU I used is 5.2V 1.35A. After connecting it with the VGA to DB23 cable on input side and VGA output to monitor I received jumping, flicker screen. Started to research internet for solution whilst everything was on to notice after 10-15 minutes that monitor went off, was very hot and quiet ticking sound was coming out of it. That's how the CRT monitor ended his career, so I obtained LCD 4:3 monitor in it's place, to continue the battle. This monitor withstands the research process much better, though, the effect the GBS provides is pretty much the same as on previous monitor. Been trying to fiddle with Geometry to yours and other sites/videos settings but nothing seems to work... Any clue on your mind or it's just garbage to be returned?

Done this for my Amigas a few yrs back , funny thing is mine gives ghosting with mouse pointer on a normal HDMI screen that has VGA connection but if I plug it into a 15 hz modern screen ghosting isn't there.

I have noticed that if you use the Amiga DB23 to DB15 (390682-01) on the GBS picture will flickers in interlaced modes but if you use the homemade cable there is no flicker. Anyone know why or how to make the Commodore 390682-01 or -03 work with interlaced modes with no flicker on the GBS?

I have bee using the GBS8200 on my Amiga 1000 for years. It works great! I purchased a special version from a Canadian team, and it came with some resistor fixes. And all the 'updates' to give it a really solid image. It also came in 3d printed case, along with the Amiga RGB cable built in. It works great! I love it.

Yeah there are NO instructions besides yours! I connected up an old wall wart plug +5V 2A supply, and ...nothing! Prob my old PS. The multivoltage PSU jobbers on amazon are smart but I seem to lose just the right connector plug on every one of them...sigh
(😢2 weeks later...) This unit *does not* work with my PAL A1200- I can't get into the geometry menu to change anything, and it shows 60 Hz on my eyoyo mini monitor- so i guess anyone with PAL is SOL.
