    Yeast was used 20 years ago. Today is use citric acid and baking soda with solenoid valve for cut off co2 over night.

      You're right Roman. With our BioCO2 we are trying to provide a cheaper and easier solution, which wouldn't be the case if solenoids were involved.

    However, now do the same thing w plants that don't need CO2 which is what most of us prefer.
    Thanks.

    It's a shame that in Toronto, Canada, there's no distribution of Tropica products. I will like the co2 of yeast.

    All good stuff but I personally, would have added some floating plants, as algae control, and perhaps only continued to have floating plants for a month or two. I also felt the filter outlet was a bit too powerful especially ref. the surface disturbance. I suspect such a powerful jet would ensure significant CO2 is lost quite quickly. Great for nighttime but with vigorous photosynthesis, if my experience is typical, vigorous surface agitation will lower the CO2 to the point that on measurement the pH will have gone up by one, easily turning neutral or slightly acidic water alkaline.

    • @TropicaAquariumPlants
      @TropicaAquariumPlants  Год назад +1

      Hi William, thank you for the fine considerations. The floating plants can always be a good addition, especially if one wants to ensure the levels of fertiliser are sufficient. We're actually monitoring the pH levels and don't experience any spikes despite the flow. In terms of the CO2 loss, we can't of course really track it but with more circulation, more bubbles are made available to plants which should in theory benefit them.

    • @williammcdowell6257
      @williammcdowell6257 Год назад +1

      @@TropicaAquariumPlants Kind of you to reply.
      My personal experience is that directing flow output from a filter downwards helps, especially if using an in-tank ceramic style diffuser, thus then pushing CO2 bubbles around, which is as you say theoretically of benefit to the plants. However, I am not a fan of too much surface agitation, most plants in ponds and rivers tend to grow in those areas where there is little surface disturbance. I suspect this is for many reasons.
      Also nutrients get oxidised very quickly in highly churned water. Good Iron levels are very important to many tropical plants, aquatic and terrestrial. Good levels of Iron dosing does not cause algae problems in my experience, this is an area of controversy in the hobby. This is especially relevant for those of us using hard tap water.
      And, the little Spring Tail colonies that develop with floating plants and undisturbed surfaces are a sign, I think, of natural bacterial colonies on the meniscus - fish prey upon the Spring Tails and the little creatures eat plant debris and the microorganisms, as do baby and small fish.
      Thinking about surface agitation and plants, consider the damage a big air stone can do to a planted tank and it starts with over disturbing the meniscus. I think showing my age here, aquariums in the 60s and 70s without CO2 injection worked best for plants with big slow gentle filtration systems. The filters themselves and the deep 'dirty' substrate produced CO2 in modest quantities and gentle filters didn't drive CO2 out of the water column.
      And finally, and you will know this, long-term chemical in-tank CO2 indicators are lagging indicators, so must be read with care if monitoring for CO2/O2 deficiency/biological oxygen demand issues, in my humble experience keep an eye on the fish in the time period before the lights come on. But having said that, yeast based systems tend to keep a tank stable and are generally very safe for fish. The real problems come with fast injection controlled by solenoids and timers.
      Thanks again and I hope I at least give some stimulus to second thoughts and deeper investigation through my amateur postings.

    Excellent video, interesting and instructive.
    I'm just acquiring equipment for an aquarium with similar dimensions of 60x30x30 and I'm worried about the amount of plants I have to order without it being too few or too many. How much exactly did you spend on the 1-2-Grow and Pot packets to do all this, regardless of plant types?

      Hi. We have a complete run through the budget at the end of the video: you should find everything from equipment to the plants used in the scape.

      @@TropicaAquariumPlants Thank you for your reply.
      I don't think we understood each other completely. In the end, I saw how everything turned out financially and that the plants cost around €150, but I'm interested in the quantity of how many 1-2-Grow boxes and Pot packets were used for the realization of that aquarium, so that I can estimate how much I need for my aquarium as well ?
      If I managed to count correctly, you used 9 packets of 1-2-Grow and 9 Pot packets ?

    • @TropicaAquariumPlants
      @TropicaAquariumPlants  Год назад

      Ups, apologies for the misunderstanding. Yes 9+9 have been used but we were on the heavier side of planting and we haven't used some of the pots completely. But you're safe with 9 of each; it of course depends on the plant species, their growth rate and the size of the portion.

      Hi. the gel should normally come off instantly. Even if it doesn't it won't cause harm to the water column so you can safely introduce the plant in the aquarium.
