1974. For the past six years, Mazda Sports Corner have taken the rotary engine to task against the racing titans of Europe. And back in Japan, Mazda’s high-revving rotaries have captured the attention of the underground racing scene, and can be heard screaming at 9,000rpm down streets and expressways across the country. But how did two tuning companies come to shape Mazda’s image on the track and on the street? How did Isami Amemiya create a blueprint for Mazda tuner culture that has withstood the test of time? And how did Takayoshi Ohashi set Mazda on a path to motorsport immortality? Today on Past Gas, part three of our four-part history of Mazda!

The Cosmo wasn't the first rotary production car: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSU_Spider
That's technically true but only 2375 were built. Even if you wanted to you probably couldn't get ahold of one.
Thanks for sharing. Never heard of NSU!
@@dongordon2754 I'm pretty sure there are even fewer Cosmos built so Id still give the title to the NSU.
@@damienlee1165 I didn't say anything about the Cosmo. It's also basically not a real car. The first vehicle I can think of that was available outside of Japan that was produced in any meaningful volume is the RX3. Halo cars are really just paper launches for new tech since so few people ever get to actually drive them. I never really give them much credit aside from cool factor because of that.
The NSU was rare but a few made it to the states. There was a guy in my dad's sports car club in North Carolina who autocrossed one back when they were new. NSU was a very innovative company. Mr. Wankel invented the rotary while working for them. They also made a really unusual overhead cam motorcycle engine that was powered by a connecting rod and eccentrics.
RX-7 FB is still fun to drive.
no it’s not
@@lospollostvclip Ok why not then? Maybe FWD is your preferred platform?

There better be mention of Moog from Mighty Car Mods!!
Why Moog?
@@li04am Because he created the "zoom zoom " campaign
@@SirNecro I thought he just made the music for it
@@li04am nope. I posted a Link from Mazda themselves but it's been removed. Google Moog + zoom zoom and you will get it straight from Mazda themselves
